The work station of the tech who did my nails was filthy - covered with dusty and crust. The longer I sat there, the more I saw and the more frustrated I felt. Tools like nippers for cuticles seemed to have been used on other customers with old cuticle on them. I'm so embarrassed that I didn't get up and leave. The tech used an efile to tear up my nail beds and then buffed them out anyway. This seemed to be a substitute for actually cleaning the old regular nail polish off. The nail polish application was sloppy with the tech applying way too much for each layer. No base coat was used, so my nail beds will be stained now. This tech applied the polish like it's gel and not like it's ordinary nail polish that needs to air dry. It's got bubbles and streaks and is cracking where the top doesn't quite cover the color. Especially strange was that I was asked to pay and tip before my service was finished. I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend.

I went here yesterday to get gel nails done by Casey/Ann Brandy Tran. I asked for "gel nails" and was given acrylic nails (liquid and powder) with a UV gel curing coat. I asked her three times throughout the process if she was sure that what she was giving me was gel. After the first coat I asked her if she was going to cure it under the UV lamp, to which she replied, "No, only after the top coat." This should have been my first clue. At the start, I said "is this gel or acrylic?" she said "you want powder gel nails, right?" I said, "I want gel nails." Thinking that she was being honest and that there was some new technology I'd never heard of (since I've been getting gels for a while and always gotten it done with "liquid gel"), I trusted her and let her finish. When she was done my nails looked like they had super thick and super artificial acrylic on them. I went home dissatisfied and a few hours later felt my nails begin to throb in pain from the pressure and also because she'd literally ripped off my cuticle using the spinning buffer. I decided to look around online because I thought that the idea of using powder for gel nails was a little suspect. I soon realized that she had used acrylic powder on my nails and just coated with a UV curing topcoat. I went in the next day to ask for a refund but was told that I was given gel nails and it was a misunderstanding on my part because I needed to ask specifically for "Shellac" or "Axxium." You would think that from my multiple questions about curing and application, she would have stopped to clarify. From my experience with gels, different salons use different brands of gel, which I am fine with, but I find it hard to believe that they expect that the customer would come in and ask for the gel nail brand by name (even though you wouldn't know what type of gel they offered right off the bat). She even went so far as to show me the cans of "gel powder" and the "acrylic powder." I kid you not, the "gel powder" can had a homemade label on it that said "gel poweder." I pointed this misspelling out to her and she said "well I don't package it." I looked at the ingredients list for the two and they were literally identical. She spent a good while trying to convince me that the ingredients didn't matter and they are two different products even though the first thing on the ingredients list for both was "Acrylic Ester Copolymers." She said "well I'm not the creator. But that one is gel and that one is acrylic." We went back and forth for 15 minutes when her manager came out. Her manager didn't speak English very well (presumably or chose not to speak English to me or to me directly at all) so they started conversing in another language in front of me. I have no idea what they said but it eventually boiled down to them offering me a refund for half of what I'd paid and to do actual gels for me (without ever admitting that what they gave me was not gel.) This was a horrible and deceitful act in my eyes and I would strongly advise against anyone ever coming here for any type of service as the business model altogether is deceitful and unprofessional. Even the finished job of the "gel poweder" nails they gave me was subpar. I've had better acrylics. The nails are wide/misshapen and very very thick and look completely artificial alongside the fact that they are painful and I will be promptly removing them after this post. I asked her where she went to cosmetology school so that I could call and confirm their gel technique and she said "I don't remember." This was probably the worst nail experience I have ever had and I will certainly never go back or refer this place to my friends. I will be refuting the charges on my card, contacting the Better Business Bureau, and contacting the Board of Cosmetology. At this point, it's about the principle of the issue to me. These are real UV nail gels. This is what the entire nail should be made from. http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume...There is no such thing as a "powder gel." Gels are gels, NOT powder. Ever. BTW, UV gel containers are always clearly labeled by the manufacturer, similar to those in the pic of gels. Beware of handwritten labels. Gels simply do not come in unlabeled containers, nor do they come with handwritten labels. Also, gels are premixed as a gel by the manufacturer. There is NO way for a tech to "pre-mix" gels. In other words, there aren't any gel products that come in a powder form and all that it needs is for the tech to add liquid to make gels. Ever see a 'powder' hair styling gel before? No, they don't exist. Well, the same thing applies here. Powder gel for nails simply doesn't exist. It is dishonest to be give acrylic nails when paying for gel nails - which are always higher priced for two reasons. 1) Gels are more difficult difficult to apply and more time consuming. 2) The UV nail gels cost much more for the tech to buy than acrylic products. read more

The people who work their are very good at explaining the different services and specials they offer. If your not educated in nails and know EXACTLY what you want done then chances are you wouldnt be getting what you want. Im a customer that usually gets a set of gel nails, w/tip on. They do a great job at making sure it lasts and use good products. i went serveral places in ann arbor and it keep lift and break, bt at nail studio is hardly a lift or break on my nail evenafter 3three back for a fills in. This is a place i wouldnt stop going too and like the warm enviroment, and friendly atmosphere. read more

FANTISTIC SERVICE! This is under a different management ... I have followed the "new management" from their previous place of employment in Dexter to this "Nail Studio". Tammy and Vincent are deligent and sincerely care about their clients. This place is equiped with new chairs, soft music and is VERY clean. I would not hesitate to recommend this Nail Studio. My mother in law and I have be going to Tammy and Vincent for years (they are the new management of Nail Studio) and I know that I will never be able to go somewhere else. Trust me, I tried while they were working on the new place. They are very accommodating and my manis/pedis last for weeks. I wanted to be festive over Thanksgiving, so while I was home, my sister in law and I got gel manicures. When mine started to chip, I read about how to remove the polish at home, and I tried (mail wraps that I bought). And tried (filing down the top coat with gritty nail files). And tried (pure acetone). After three strikes and grungy looking nails, I slapped some regular polish over to keep them acceptable, and vowed to find a salon to help. The first place that I went to did not take walk-ins, so I went to New York Nails, the next place that I passed. The employee there immediately welcomed me and got to work removing the stubborn polish. About 10 minutes later it was all removed, and my nails looked fantastic and bare. It was a reasonable $10, which was much less than I had spent on my DIY removal misadventure. My many thanks to this place for fitting me right in and helping me out!
