Fried fish taco, fries, hush puppies
    Kelly M.

Needed a lunch, not my usual route, so I enjoy trying new to me places. Originally thinking "to-go", but rain hit, so I enjoyed inside. Had the fish tacos, 2 in an order so had one grilled, one fried. Made it a plate and chose slaw and fries. Their slaw is minced fine and flavorful. The celery seed comes through. The fries. Hot! Yum. Their tarter sauce must be housemade, as it was delightful as I dipped the fries. The tacos had a great Pico, cilantro topping, so I didn't add tarter sauce. Brewed unsweetened iced tea was great. They offer Pepsi fountain products. They do not offer anything steamed, only fried or broiled. I'd eat here again. Staff were friendly and could answer questions well. The entrance area gives the impression it's a take out only joint, but just passed the beverage station is a full dining area.

Hello, I'm from the Washington DC Metro Area & I am very, very picky when it comes to food - I normally don't like to eat out. I had the catfish, haddock, oysters, fries, coleslaw, & clam chowder. I wanted to try it all! LOL. I couldn't get all of this the day before due to Lent. I gave the food a 10 out of 10. The oysters reminded me of my gramps oysters, the coleslaw was nice & sweet, the fish was cooked just right. Only thing that I didn't get that I wanted was scallops - next time. I have hush puppies, haven't eaten them yet. Didn't really care for the fries because I let them get cold. Definitely a place I will make a return trip to!

Super fast and friendly service. I like that you can get a fish fry but not just on Fridays. The fried fish is delicious with a light, fresh batter. The hush puppies weren't overcooked and tasted delicious. The fish tacos are a great option if you want grilled fish instead of fried. Your choice of cod, Mahi, or haddock. The clam chowder is New England style and very tasty with a generous helping of clams and small diced potatoes. Order inside and they bring your food out even on the patio. Will be back.

Overall - great spot to grab some fried fish. All sorts of different varieties of fish from simple fried shrimp, cod and catfish. The service is counter ordering and the staff is extremely friendly. I'll put their fried shrimp and cod in the same category as 42nd Street downtown. Worth a trip and a great staple in Apex.

This was awful! This is NOT the quality I've come to expect from Skippers. ALL the foods on this plate looked and tasted the exact greasy same with zero seasoning. Swimming in dirty grease that needed to be changed. This platter was $15! A complete waste of my hard earned money. During a time where the cost of goods and services is rising steadily, so should the QUALITY of your product. Most people won't take the time to complain they'll let their feet speak for them by walking into other restaurants where their money is respected with quality and taste. The two top reasons we eat out instead of cooking, quality and taste. The cost would be fine if the food justified such a price. That meal was definitely NOT a reflection of the cost.

Updated review. Gave Skipper's another try, getting takeout this time. The sampler platter was so good! The breading adhered to the fish/seafood, it was seasoned well, and everything was cooked nicely. Very glad we gave this another shot because we were pleasantly surprised with how much we enjoyed our meals & how different it was from our first experience there. Looking forward to going back and trying the bbq sometime too!

Skipper's is a must try in Apex. We placed an order online and it was ready in about 15 minutes but you can dine inside or outside. If you dine in, they serve draft beer. I tried the single seafood platter with a fish sandwich, cole slaw and applesauce, my husband tried the same thing but with green beans and corn and my mom went with the flounder, baked beans and green beans. The portions are plentiful for the price plus the food was so good! I'll have to try BBQ Monday or BBQ Thursday next. Just a note, the mask rule was being properly implemented during our visit during COVID-19.

    Just pulled in!

I love this restaurant! Small, laid back no frills atmosphere and excellent food. I used to work in Apex and was able to frequent more often, but now is a special treat location. Turned my fiancé in to them and he lives their barbecue! He and his boss now go every Friday for smoked brisket and chicken. Definitely a great place with great food.

We made reservations ahead of time online since it was a Holiday. First off the front staff was super friendly and got us to our table right away. Love the feel and the decor. The lighting was a tad dark but that's ok. It was still cozy and romantic. Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable. They had a special Valentine's Day menu. She ran down the specials by memory. She took our drink and appetizer order ( the calamari fritti) gave us time to check out the rest of the expansive menu. The drinks came and our app. The lemonades were very sweet and nicely tart from the real fruit purée and lemons. Delightful! The calamari fritti was a knock out, home run. The breading was delicious. The calamari was nice and tender. The marinara was so good. Get this is you like calamari! For our mains we got the Sea bass special with the creamy risotto and asparagus and the figure 8 stuffed Flounder. Lemme tell you...This place knows sea food. What an incredible experience. The sea bass Valentine's Day menu special was cooked to perfection. So flaked and moist. Seared and seasoned perfectly. They should add it to the main menu. The risotto was amazing. Creamy and flavorful. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. The figure 8 stuffed flounder was delicious as well. The crab stuffing was absolutely great! The sauce over top was creamy and worked perfectly with the flounder and crab. It came with the most delicious fresh green beans with a couple nicely seasoned tomatoes. The rice pilaf was also really nice. Around this time I realized the Valentine's Day menu had Oysters Rockefeller ... and I love oysters Rockefeller. So I put in for an order of those. Best oysters Rockefeller I've had in a long time! Add these to the menu! For dessert... we ordered the apple crumb at vanilla bean ice cream. Perfect way to end out meal. We cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! Save us a table! Kudos to the staff and chef / cooks. Yall did an amazing job.

The…read moremini crab cakes were a perfect starter and I enjoyed their very flavorful but not spicy version of their popular shrimp & grits. Nice atmosphere inside, but recommend reservations as they fill up quickly. The Deets: Some friends/coworkers and I decided to catch up over a meal and we decided on trying out this location of Cape Fear Seafood Co. on Lake Pine Drive. I had been to the one located in the Village District (formerly Cameron Village) of DTR in the past and knew of this one opening up through Yelp. If you know me, I am usually not one for seafood but remember I had a pretty good experience at the one in DTR. We noted that it would be a good idea to have a reservation so one was made. Good thing, this place gets crowded fast, even around the 5pm point. Upon arrival, we were promptly shown to a table with menus. While walking in, this restaurant has that beach type feeling with brightly painted areas and subtle pelagic decor without going overboard. The bar area gave a warm, inviting vibe. Back to the menu, their menu is pretty expansive but not over the top multiple pages. I think even the non-seafood lover can find something to like here. We started with hush puppies for the table and I went with the appetizer sized mini crab cakes for myself. I loved the mini crab cakes and the lemon beurre blanc sauce with them, just enough for a starter and tasted great. The hush puppies were good as well but just a tiny bit too brown for me, they were a little bit more done than I'd like. I like them more of a golden finish instead of brown, just my preference. For my main dish, I went with their Cape Fear Shrimp & Grits. They are a pretty popular choice here and I remember liking them at the DTR location. They remained a great choice, they were delicious. They are very flavorful and enjoyable without being spicy, which I like as I am non-spicy food person and it seems most everywhere does their shrimp & grits spicy. I find this take on them refreshing. I would have liked more cheese grits in the serving as it seems to be like a half serving, however the shrimp as well as the creamy sauce were plentiful. Service did a good job here, checking on us periodically. In all, I liked this experience here at Cape Fear Seafood Co. for the most part and would enjoy visiting again in the future.

I quickly scanned their hefty bloody mary menu and ordered the Lobstrocity, featuring veggies, shrimp, a grilled cheese sandwich and a fresh lobster tail atop a sizeable glass of the main concoction. This was definitely a meal in a glass! It was all quite delicious and filling, and I was glad I'd opted out of any of the optional add-ons like filet mignon, crab claws, or frog legs. Of course, I still had to order half a dozen raw oysters for dessert. And no, I won't be eating for the rest of the day! What made this a 5 star experience was our phenomenal server, Trevor. We started with the mojito flight, which was honestly a fun way to kick things off. The Lavender and Blood Orange were my favorites, but the Chipotle Pineapple had a surprisingly good smoky-sweet balance, and even the Desert Pear was refreshing without tasting overly syrupy. For appetizers, the fried calamari disappeared fast -- crispy, tender, and not greasy at all. The New England clam chowder was rich and comforting, and the lobster scallop bisque was probably the sleeper hit of the night. Creamy, decadent, and loaded with flavor without being overwhelmingly heavy. The Virginia oysters were... fine. Fresh enough, but they didn't really stand out compared to everything else we ordered. Now for the stars of the table: the frog legs and the COCONUT CURRY PEI MUSSELS. The frog legs were perfectly fried and surprisingly delicate, but those mussels? Easily the best dish of the night. The coconut curry broth was ridiculously good -- rich, aromatic, slightly sweet with a little heat. Still, the food itself was strong enough that I'd absolutely come back, especially for those mussels and another round of mojitos. Solid 4-star seafood spot for Holly Springs.
