Skeets is one of the closest BBQ restaurants to my house, so when I'm craving BBQ, I always come here. I'm not a big fan of meat so I usually get the loaded baked potato. Let me tell you, it is beyond good. I have had quite a few loaded potatoes in my life, but Skeets is particularly amazing. The potato itself is huge. Then, they load it up with sour cream, butter, bacon, cheese, and your choice of meat. I always get the chopped beef on mine. It's a very thin kind of meat with no fat or gristle on it. Instead of putting BBQ sauce directly on it, they give it to you as a side item so that the customer can control how much they want to put on. I usually pour a pretty hefty amount on mine. I think the sauce is delectable. Smoky and sweet. Aside from the one amazing food item that I've had, the place itself isn't that great. I remember a decision between Jakes Grill and Skeets after my daughter's softball games- she's 28 now... We have been coming here for over 15 years it feels like, and today is the first day I've decided to write a review because our last three visits have been terrible. I'll focus on today's visit. We always get the stuffed potato without meat. The bbq is nothing special, but it is fresh if you want some. I find the brisket boring and flavorless. And the sausage is pork-based, so I'm not interested in that option either. If onions and pickles are your thing, make sure to ask for them for your to go as the angry little cashier lady won't offer any. She just points to the onion station. The potatoes lately have been tiny for an entree. And dry. And burnt. And when we asked for bbq sauce, she charged me. So- a stuffed potato at a barbecue joint does not include barbecue sauce? And- most annoying is the attitude that you get from the workers when you want more sauce or a better looking potato or whatever. Since we all know a bag of potatoes is like five dollars, if I'm paying for one potato at around eight dollars, I expect it to be a pretty good looking one. I could walk next-door to Randall's and buy one and deal with it myself, but I'm paying you for the convenience, so make it convenient and give me what I want. Without attitude. Aside from the food being lightly seasoned, cold,, and mediocre at best, the service was HORRIBLE! We had just left the cemetery from memorializing our mother and came to have dinner together as a family. Upon walking into the almost empty restaurant, the staff quickly looked at us as though it was a problem to have a large group. Nevertheless we organized ourselves by families and ordered our food. After unnecessarily arguing with the staff about an incorrectly made stuffed baked potato we finished ordering and sat to eat. Unfortunately my younger brother had not ordered and I went to the counter only for the manager to blatantly roll his eyes. I told him that at not point did we not pay for our $200+ meal plus tips per order nor did we get a discount, therefore I was confused as to why he was so upset to clearly exhale and roll his eyes when I came to order. As a well educated citizen that actually contributes to society,I was completely taken aback and me nor my family will be back at this establishment again. Once upon a time, this BBQ joint was great. The customer service has never been good but the food was. The online menu says that a Chopped Beef/Brisket Sandwich is $4.75. I just placed a phone order for 4 sandwiches and the total when I paid was $37.89... That is $8.50 per sandwich. I called to speak with the manager and he had no explanation as to why the prices were different. I then asked when the owner would be in. The "Manager" said he didn't know. Imagine that bbq can get 100 million times better than Skeets, that is Rudy's. That is what my friend said. I can't believe it because I thought Skeets was pretty good. What do I know about bbq? Absolutely nothing. And that is why I am giving Skeets four stars. I am not from Texas but I did enjoy my food from Skeets. That includes two pounds of brisket I smuggled on the plane and brought to New York. The loaded baked potato I bought for lunch lasted all about 10 minutes. I ate it. So. Fast. Everything is bigger in Texas. You know those styrofoam containers for to-go food? My baked potato was that big! It weighed about two pounds! Ice cream scoop of butter, sour cream, BACON, onions, and chopped beef... The potato was large and in charge. It was very good and I have no complaints about the watery bbq sauce. It was smokey and sweet, a nice touch overall. The brisket is delicious on its own. Skeets slices it very thin. It's extremely tender. You don't need a knife to cut it. I want more! After reading through all of the reviews about this place, I decided to give it a try for myself. I purchased the jalapeño sausage, the pork ribs, and the brisket (super juicy). I must say that all selections where delicious and had a mesquite smoky flavor to them. For sides, I brought potato salad and pinto beans, both of which where average, but by no means terrible. They offer jalapeño bread for .50 a piece, it goes well with their brisket. The BBQ sauce tasted like it was out of a chef boyardee can, lucky for me that the meat was so flavorful that it did not require to be drenched in sauce as too much of it would mask the taste. The service was fast and efficient, I ordered my food to go. The atmosphere left much to be desired for dining in in comparison with Spring Creek and Big Horn BBQ. Finally gave this place a shot on a whim but left with a much lighter wallet and a wish that I had just played it safe with Chick-Fil-A. I had the ribs, which were ok-to-good but their sauce is closer to chili to me and that's not really something I'm looking for. As for those ribs, I got 3 of normal size and then got hosed with 2, count them 2, measly end pieces...a big time negative but the guy that cut them didn't seem all that concerned as he was clowning around with another employee through it all. I also had the potato salad which was fine but then again, how hard is that. A few notes: While we ate, we watched a little basketball on two giant, old-timey projection televisions that looked a little like they might come crashing down on top of us at any moment. I give this place a lot of props because we can reliably eat here so much (late night, don't want to cook, get it to go). Barbeque: the chicken, jalapeno sausage (better than most places), and turkey (salad only- otherwise, perhaps a tad dry) are great. I would probably choose other places for brisket (haven't tried any of their other meats). BBQ Sauce: Great! It is not too sweet, and I think it actually has pieces of bbq meat in there. SIdes: okay Happy Hour: Monday through Friday- $1 draft beers and margaritas 4-7 Steak Night: Mondays and Fridays (comes with a baked potato, but you can get 2 other sides if you are avoiding carbs or don't like baked potato). Really good steak! Sometimes they overshoot or undershoot (too well done or not done enough), but every time the steaks have a great flavor. Overall, if you live in Pearland, this is a reliable, tasty go-to. I love Skeets barbecue! The food is very good; I recommend the fully loaded potato with jalapeño sausage. It's so good! I've tried their chicken plates (great as well) chopped beef and ribs. We are regulars here but today was not their best day. We took a bite out of the jalepeno bread and saw mold. I know what you're thinking, "how can this little neighborhood bar/restaurant be any good?" I thought the same thing too when my best friend took me here for the first time. The clientele here are the nicest, most interesting, and social people you'll ever meet. While in Pearland, TX, I looked for a good BBQ place and it was between this place and another one. I chose Skeets because they served alcohol! Maybe I shouldn't have... Skeets is ok, but that's about it. I had the Brisket and BBQ Turkey and they were both good but neither was great. The BBQ sauce was meh at best! It had flavor, but it wasn't tangy nor spicy. I did like the Smoked Corn and the Jalapeno Bread. The Green Beans were good. I washed it down with a Lone Star and while I was eating this, I was thinking that I probably made the wrong decision and shouldn't have allowed the determining factor to be whether the place served alcohol or not. Second trip here....first time was during the hurricane, and thankfully these guys were open....but i couldnt remember how the food was. Decided to stop by today, got the sliced brisket...now i know why i couldnt remember the taste. All i could taste was SMOKE....couldnt taste the meat or anything else....it was over smoked. I'm visiting from out of town and wanted to try Texan Bbq which i hear is all the rave! The ribs and brisket were tender however the sides were just ok. The potatoes were hard in the potato salad, the corn was pretty bland and the baked beans were overcooked and disappointing in flavor. I would come again if I just had a taste for the BBQ meat and Bbq sauce. But this place wouldn't be my first choice. The food looks much better than the taste. Sorry guys. read more

i struggle with the 3 stars. i wish i could give them 4, but the customer service is a hit or miss, so they really are a 3.5 hands down Skeets has BETTER (yeah i said it...)better BBQ than the Big Dog in town Central Texas Bbq. the ribs, brisket and chicken are amazing. i was less than impressed with their turkey breast. Central Texas does have awesome turkey breast. the sides here are not anything special. solid potato salad, and fresh hot hand cut fries. other than that...nothing mind blowing. i don't like smelling like a smoke pit, so i think i will send the husband to pick up the meats from now on and make our own sides. they have a ribeye special on Friday nights that we have yet to try out. read more

Ok, let's get something straight up front - there are as many opinions on bbq as there are people in the world, and every one of them is different. I'm a bbq fan, but I did not grow up on "Texas" bbq. Maybe that's why I'm such a big fan of Skeets. I've had almost everything on their menu, but I stick to basics - brisket, sausage, ribs. Though I love pulled pork, I'm not a fan of theirs. Another reviewer lamented the sauce. Yes, it's a bit watery, which I don't like, but I've found the smokey flavor of the meat doesn't actually NEED sauce. When I'm bored with other restaurants, I routinely stop here for a chopped beef baked potato, which really hits the spot. Their Friday night ribeye steak dinner special is also a great deal. I know my review is going to be a tad offbeat from what most people will rave about. This place has (hands down) one of the best ranch dressing recipes around. I always order the smoked turkey salad. My husband really likes their bbq because they smoke with pecan, and that is what he uses as well. I love the corn on the cob, beans, potato salad AND, (who can forget) the jalapeño cheese bread. Ask them to substitute that bread on your sandwich and they will. The peach cobbler is really good. There is also a pool table saloon-type bar attached to the restaurant if that's your thing. The bbq is nothing special, but it is fresh. I think the other reviews are under rated. I love the brisket here, the meat has a delicious smoked flavor. Even your clothes will smell of delicious BBQ after you leave. My personal favorite is the chopped beef potato. I love to get a pound of sliced sausage and dip them in the BBQ sauce. For those who love thick sweet BBQ sauce like from the grocery store then this sauce isn't for you. It is a bit watery but it is very flavorful and even has bits of meat in it. This is definitely home made style and it is not very sweet(my kind of sauce) Every BBQ place i've been to has a different recipe for the sauce. So disappointed in Skeets today. I've been coming to eat here for over 8 years and always get a decent amount of food and good customer service. However today was horrible! Usually you are greeted when you enter didn't get that, let that slide. I walk over to order and just looked at the older gentleman until he acknowledged me and he said what you want today. I chuckled and ordered my first baked potato, as he was making it I said sir no sour cream please all the way without sour cream & butter. He added sour cream anyway. I said sir that's wrong but I'll keep that one for me. He took a napkin and literally took off the butter and sour cream and said I asked you what I wanted. I said ok.. and I told you but since I'm ordering 3 more potatoes I was going to keep that one. He said too late. Before I could even comment on his comment my 9 year old son said wow the customer service is mean and rude now. If my 9 year old knew this was ugly the older gentleman definitely knew, The good thing in this though I can take my dollars elsewhere & encourage others to do the same. I will encourage my friends, family and neighbors to find somewhere else to get BBQ, driving a little further is worth it to another establishment who appreciates its customers.
