Big Horn BBQ has become one of our family's go to spots when we're craving BBQ. My 15 year old son is definitely a carnivore, and his favorite thing to order is the pound of brisket as his meal. He is completely in love with it! He also has Type 1 Diabetes, so having the option to order just meat is actually a huge plus for us. He doesn't always love having to dose insulin for every meal, so being able to get something like a pound of brisket with little to no carbs gives him an option where he can just enjoy his food without having to think as much about his insulin. It may seem like a small thing, but having those choices makes a big difference. My girls usually get the chicken tender meals, and even the kids portions are huge. There is almost always enough left over to take home, which is always a bonus. My husband and I usually share the three meat meal. The turkey is honestly the highlight for both of us. It is really good and probably our favorite meat they offer. We usually get the ribs and brisket with it as well, and everything is pretty solid. I wouldn't say it's competition style BBQ, but for a local restaurant, it's definitely good BBQ and a place we enjoy coming back to. The portions are generous, the food is consistent, and it's a restaurant that works well for our whole family. The sides are also really good and there are plenty of options to choose from. The desserts are probably the one area that didn't stand out as much for me. I tried the bread pudding, and it was just not my favorite. The flavor and texture were a little different than what I expected. That being said, the BBQ itself is what keeps us coming back. Overall, Big Horn BBQ is a great spot with good food, big portions, and options that make it easy for everyone in our family to find something they enjoy. I went through the drive thru to purchase a loaded baked potato, chicken tender kids meal with mashed potatoes and gravy, lemonade, pecan pie and a peach cobbler. The peach cobbler was NOT thoroughly cooked. When I moved a peach, underneath it the crust was runny and white. I called to tell them about the undercooked food and got this response from the employee, "...well we ain't got no more peach cobbler so you can't exchange it." Not, "...we apologize that this dessert did not meet quality expectations, but we would be happy to refund you your money, or allow you to choose another dessert." Very frustrating, today! Living in Pearland since before Big Horn BBQ was born, we have been big fans, even hosting our son's high school graduation in their event room. But today's experience just goes to show you; one's loyalty to a place is only as good as their last experience. Today we placed two orders to go through their third-party service to be delivered to our home since we were working in our garden all day. We had to place two orders because one of our sons was not home yet. When the first order arrived, we opened the stapled paper bag, and only found two of our three orders, with our oldest son's cheeseburger missing. Upon our discovery, we quickly called the restaurant to see if we could get them to package the missing cheeseburger with our second order. Unfortunately, the initial person taking our call, placed us on hold once and then a second time after getting the gist of our issue saying that we needed to wait for a manager. By the time the manager answered the phone, almost 10 minutes later, our second order arrived. We told the manager when he answered the phone that the second order had unfortunately already arrived so we would still need his help getting the missing cheeseburger from the first order. The manager then proceeded to tell us that the problem was not with them and it was an issue with the third-party carrier and that we would have to make the complaint through them. We then asked, who was responsible for packing the order and then stapling the bag shut for the carrier to pick up at the restaurant. The manager said that Big Horn took care of all of that. We then we're wondering well how are we going to get the missing cheeseburger? The manager said it was not their problem and that it was the problem of the third-party carrier. He could hear our frustration but said nothing more other than stating that a missing food item is the responsibility of the carrier, not Big Horn. The manager literally told us to get a hold of the carrier to see if he would go back to Big Horn to pick up the missing burger; so we were forced to hang up the phone and try to file a complaint with the carrier. But the third-party carrier only had voicemail and/or messaging available for complaints; no human contact. So here we are after ordering two orders totaling well over $75 worth of food and sides; and all we can do is expect some kind of credit or refund from the carrier for our next order, and Big Horn has washed their hands of us getting our son his burger. So there you have it, one uncaring manager, and one uncaring attendant, and Big Horn has lost a large family of long time customers for good. read more

They do not hold back on serving sizes,so be prepared to get to-go-bags. Big Horn BBQ Pearland: the brisket was wrong, but the management response was worse. Today, I ordered moist brisket with fat from Big Horn BBQ in Pearland. I asked three times because this was not merely a preference. The person eating it has serious chewing limitations and needed meat that was moist and tender. The employee taking my order repeated it to the person cutting the brisket. I then personally asked him, "Is this the moist brisket with fat?" He said yes. It was not. They cut in an area you cannot view. When I arrived home, the brisket was extremely lean, dry, and unusable as the protein for the meal. I called later that same day after finishing my work. Assistant manager Maria said I might be able to receive a refund or return that day. Manager Victor then refused a refund or credit and asked: "Why did it take you so long to call?" "Why didn't you check it before you left?" Because I asked three times and was told three times, directly and indirectly, that the order was correct. Customers should not be required to open and inspect food at the counter after restaurant employees have confirmed the order. What happens with drive-thru, delivery, Door Dash, or Uber Eats orders? Is every customer expected to unwrap and examine every item before trusting and leaving the restaurant? As a chef, I recognize that food-service errors happen. The proper response is service recovery: listen, acknowledge the mistake, apologize, and offer a reasonable correction. It is not to interrogate the customer and transfer responsibility to them. I was not demanding a free feast. I asked for an appropriate credit for the meal or total a re-do because the central part of the meal could not be eaten. I had also purchased an extra side, an additional twice-baked potato for approximately $5, but without an edible protein, it was not the meal I ordered. I had been choosing Big Horn because it is closer than Central Texas BBQ and my previous experiences had been good. But today, Manager Victor made it very clear that retaining a customer was less important than refusing responsibility. When preparing this review, I read a few other product quality, customer service, and dismissive techniques cited by others. The brisket was dry. The bbq is excellent. The ambiance is equal to the food. Try the onion rings as a side dish at no extra charge, but you have to ask for them as they are not listed as a side dish. Whenever we have visitors from out of state, we take them here. The food, the smoke aroma and the staff make for a great Texas experience. Large tea glasses, great self-serve toppings bar and big pots of help-yourself bbq sauce are all pluses. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the ordering process. One person handles the orders no matter how long the waiting line gets, which can sometimes stretch out of the restaurant. But it's worth the wait (almost). read more

Went here for the first time on Sunday and the food was incredible 10 out of 10. I definitely recommend only been here in Houston for a year and still trying out new food places. This is definitely one for the books. I ordered the three meat plate. I chose sausage, brisket, and ribs with a side of baked beans, mac & cheese and yams. My girlfriend ordered the brisket baked potato, and she loved it. The earlier 1 star review I gave was the Pearland location, and have never gone back. Recently moved to Alvin and now frequent the Sante Fe location. This location is MUCH better. The food was served hot and fresh. I tried the corn casserole for the first time, it wasn't my favorite, but my daughter really enjoyed it. They never disappoint with the brisket the meat to fat ratio and flavor are always spot on. I picked up an a la carte Lean Brisket togo. The meat was really soft and very delicious with nice pink smoke rings, supple seasoning, great smoky vibes and hearty, beef flavor. All of these add up to what a good brisket should have. Even for a lean request, it wasn't too lean or dry by any means, but instead very good. In fact, I even cut off some of the excess, visible fat just for a little more healthiness and only used just a smidge of sauce bc it really didn't need it. As for the bbq sauce, it has a great tomato base with very noticeable sweetness, but I also prefer a little more peppery, spicy notes mixed in so it's semi-sweet. The food smells fantastic as soon as you enter and looks tempting at the pick up bar. The restaurant is large and probably could get loud in the evenings and weekends. Big Horn is a no no for BBQ. I've always been curious about the lines and wondered how good the que was... I'm convinced these are people who've never eaten real bbq. I grew up smelling the smoke from bbq in my backyard...and ever time you heat the bbq up, the smell permeates the air! Big Horn will not give you that experience! When I picked up the food, first off the three containers of $50 plus dollars of food was a shocker. Didnt even feel like there was anything in the bag. The containers were not even full- and they were differen sizes because I bought a lb of sliced brisket and 1/2 each of turkey and jalepano sausage. No bread comes with the bbq. The bbq sauce (which I'm never a fan of because real bbq doesnt need it) was a thimble cup. The kicker was that I could not wven smell a hint of what I call bbq from my food. This imitation to the real bbqers out there, Big Horn is again NOT the place to be satisfied for actual and authentic barbeque. Maybe it was an off day, but I call it an awful day. Ok fine, maybe they just cut a fattier piece than normal. But the brisket was also cold. Room temp at best. Big Horn BBQ is always a memorable stop in Pearland. The restaurant has a nice 'Texas BBQ restaurant' aesthetic and there are plenty of comfortable seating options. Makes sense. Interestingly enough, its located in a gas station and includes a large gift shop and convenience store. It's fun, exciting and the BBQ is good. I like the burgers here and would recommend their HOSS double burger...or simply "THE HOSS." Moreover, the service here is always friendly and the wait is usually not too bad. Okay on a regular day, 5 stars for the BBQ, but I'm giving 2 stars because my mother and I shouldn't have to doctor a meal she paid almost $200 for, and thank goodness we can cook! My mother wanted to take it easy for thanksgiving this year, so she bought a "half-gallon" (didn't look like half a gallon, but okay) of dressing and sweet potatoes. She also bought the Cajun Turkey. I'm just gonna tell y'all what we had to do, to make it edible for us: -Turkey: dry fresh out of the oven, so we made sure to pour chicken broth over it and let it marinate in it before the guests arrived. White meat was dry, but not even the basic turkey dry, it was Popeyes biscuit dry. I'm not joking. You needed a beverage with this for sure. -Sweet potatoes: placed in a crock pot to warm, ended up having to add cinnamon, nutmeg, cinnamon sugar, brown sugar, and sugar to taste. Thanks to my mom it came out great! -Dressing: ended up having to stir it up a bit with a little chicken broth. It was already kind of mushy so we had to be very careful. We added gizzards, Cornish hen juice (thank goodness we made our own dressing btw), and basically all the seasonings we use on our regular dressing. It didn't taste great that night, or thanksgiving day, BUT today, Nov 26, when it all marinated--it tastes how it probably should've tasted when my mom spent almost $200 on this. All in all, if we're paying almost $200 we may as well buy the ingredients and cook it ourselves!!! We were too busy doctoring (the meal we paid other ppl to cook for us) everything to take pictures, but I did get a picture of the LOAF of dressing they gave us. I understand thanksgiving is hard to cook and we expect to spend a cute coin, but if you're charging ppl almost $200 for not even the full meal, you gotta do better than this. The exact price she paid was $184 and some change btw. For dressing, Turkey, and sweet potatoes--(allegedly) a half gallon.
