I get drive thru, as I'm heading home occasionally. The attendant is friendly service is quick. Last time I had a turkey sandwich and a brisket Baked potato. I have been looking all over Southwest Huston for catfish and they had it and it was delicious and their green beans were seasoned just right and their coleslaw was good. I love this place. It's not the best BBQ I've ever had, but it is still damn good. The place is old, but it's always clean. Their daily specials are pretty awesome: cheap, delicious, gets you full! The drive-thru lane adds convenience, if you can't or don't want to get out of the car. Service is always fast and polite. My favorite items are the giant and loaded BBQ potatoes with chopped beef/brisket, ribs, all of the homemade sides, and peach cobbler. The decor of the place is also something to see. Many items appear to be antiques or vintage. There is plenty of outside seating and booths on the inside. Very very bland, it did not have a lot of meat I had to add my own bbq sauce and seasonings and I just couldn't finish it I was so disappointed. I also ordered a large smoked turkey leg, first of all they gave me two small legs and both were hard as rocks. I couldn't even bite it. Last week, I took my perfectly seasoned brisket ONLY to be smoked and sliced at the Post Oak location. The brisket weighed 25 lbs upon arrival at the restaurant. It took two hands to carry it. When I picked the brisket up, it weighed approximately half of that. They had taken over half of my meat and partially replaced it with what could only be described as beef jerky. On top was the remnants of brisket that they smoked for me. At the bottom of the pan was hard, old, leftover brisket as a filler. So in actuality, they stole over half of my brisket to either take home or to sell in their steamer. When I questioned them about the incident they couldn't explain. All they could say was they didn't weigh the meat. However, my Randall's wrapper stated 25lbs. When I left there with the brisket, it only took one hand to carry it. You do the math. My big mistake was trusting them to slice my meat. I guess it was one slice for me and two slices for them. They are horrible and should not be trusted!!! Do Not Patronize!!!! Great service, ok food. I went through the drive thru and ordered a 2-meat plate with spicy beef sausage and turkey. Sides were jambalaya and cabbage. Taste 3/5 The sausage and turkey were tasty. The meat was well-seasoned without being overly salty or smoky. The BBQ sauce is not too sweet and not too tangy. It's a tad on the thin side but good. The cabbage was super sweet. It was quite flavorful but there was no meat in my serving. I didn't like the jambalaya. I could not quite tell if it was a seasoning I wasn't familiar with or if it was beginning to turn bad. Regardless, I opted not to eat it. I was hoping the sweet potato pie would have been homemade but no luck. It was fair at best. Quantity 3/5 Good portions of meat and average sides. I am not understanding if a pick up order is placed 10 minutes prior to picking up why should the customer have to wait, if it takes less than 2 minutes? This is the second time this has happened. Once again, one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant since probably the last time I ordered from here. This is officially the last. Ok, so I ordered through ubereats, easy order, Mixed platter (lean chopped beef in the notes), and a turkey dinner. The mixed platter comes with brisket, ribs, and sausage. 45min later it shows up.... turkey dinner and lean chopped beef. Obviously confused we call the restaurant and try to explain the situation and find out where the rest of the order is. This guy on the phone goes around and around telling me 'I put chopped beef in the note, so that's all I got." We further try to explain "the mixed platter is on your menu and tells you what come with it. Brisket being one of those item, we specified that we wanted lean and chopped ( we all know it usually doesn't come this way unless it's asked for)". No, progress, dudes still arguing, then finally get the manager. We explain the situation to the manager, he's way more understanding of the situation ( probably because he actually listened instead of just arguing) and tells us whenever we want to come get the rest of our order we can on the house. Awesome, right. Wrong, then we eat the food we actually got. First, I want to say I know ordering food for delivery isn't gonna be the quality of ordering and eating on the spot, I have accepted that, but this turkey was the old, driest, inedible turkey we've ever had, the sides pretty trash, and the lone chopped brisket was ok at best. 5/24/14 11:39am - I am a big fan of Hungry Farmer. I love their Crosstimbers location so naturally I wanted to sample their S Postoak restaurant. I like the whole vibe of Hungry Farmer. Lets start with the clever name that is a play on the idiom "Eat like a farmer". The decor is late 1970's urban cowboy/truck stop/hunting lodge. The biggest kick are the horrible pictures of the food and plate dinners. These drab yellowish pictures look like something out of a 1970's cookbook your grandmother owns. The pictures are as appetizing as a school lunch. They are wretched. How Hungry Farmer is not a Houston landmark baffles me. They have been around since 1973 serving great BBQ in some of the worst locations. So much better than the other Houston BBQ grandpas. I scored the S. Postoak Hungry Farmer an 84 out 100. Reserve Grand Champion BBQ. Not as good as the Crosstimbers location. See my earlier post. Smoke: Hickory. There is a large smoke stack in the back and a large stack of wood. They use wood fired Olyers at the original, I assume they have the same here. Brisket: Good. A sad slice compared to Crosstimbers. A 1/8in smoke ring beneath a thin bark. They got the tenderness nearly perfect. Flavor was just beef and mild smoke. Use the sauce. Ribs: Very Good. A big meaty Memphis style spare rib. Smoked slow and then thrown on a hot grill. A nice red smoke ring beneath a bronze bark with grill marks. The smokey porky rib meat was moist and tender. No sauce needed for these babies. Sausage: Excellent. A medium ground pork link with bold traditional spice and nice peppery aftertaste. It was moist and a little greasy and had a mild smoke flavor. No sauce needed. Sauce: Fair. Wow this was bad. A dark brown stew thick tangy spicy sauce. It was bitter and the sauce developed a skin, eweh! It made everything taste worse. Skip all together. read more

This bar-b-q joint was born on the same year as yours truly, and it serves to prove 1975 was a good year! Food: Beef rib plate special- This was the best ever! I came wanting to compare this place with Papas. I wanted to do the beef ribs test. All they had was short beef ribs. So I got 1/2 pound sliced brisket and a seafood dinner. The 3 shrimp were jumbo 'shannon breaded just right along side a huge piece of cod.Red Beans and Rice along with the cabbage was great. I had the lean side of the brisket and it had a great smoke ring. It's pretty darn good. I wasn't a fan of the homeade sauce but you might like it. I think that I will be back here. read more

They got 3 stars because I wanted to give 4 stars for service. The food I would give a 1 and a half - 2. I had the pork ribs which is my litmus test at bbq joints. I came alone after church which is nearby. The ribs were a good size and had some flavor. What threw me off were the grill marks on the ribs. I've never in my 38 years of life seen very distinct (like they were put on commercially, for lack of a better term). I don't know it is weird, like when there were fake grill marks on my corn at Applebee's. I also had black Eyed Peas, they just heated up a can added nothing. The Mac and cheese was nothing special.
