We came here on a Sunday afternoon , it wasn't too packed so there was plenty of seatings for large parties or groups. We proceeded to the register to order our food. It came out 10 minutes later. Food was hot, but quite greasy. Flavors for my chicken Philly was okay. They do give huge portions so possibly shareable. My daughter got the Philly cheesesteak and stated it wasn't great, she preferred mozzarella cheese but I think hers had cheddar instead. Burger was good, decent not out of this world. I love this local joint! The food comes out quick, and service is very friendly. Everything on the menu is done to the high standard of the Killen's name. We've had a lot from the menu and nothing ever comes short of quality food. Condiments are serve yourself along with kindly put away your own trays because we're all functioning adults. The bun was soggier than my will to live after waiting 25 minutes for something that tasted like a middle school cafeteria experiment. The fries were limp, the "signature sauce" tasted suspiciously like ketchup with an identity crisis, and the staff acted like smiling might cost extra. Driving by this place for months and finally had a chance to stop by and see what these guys have to offer. The ambiance is cool even with a decent amount of people the day we stopped by, and they bring your food out within reasonable time. Had to go with the double meat, double cheese "Killens Special" which seemed larger than I thought but it did the job that evening. Their fries are fresh, crispy and soft at the same time which is always a plus from any burger joint! Let me say in my opinion they have one of the best burgers in Houston that I've tasted in a long time! I absolutely loved the nostalgia of this place. Like old school diner small town feels. For food I ordered the regular cheeseburger, Nashville hot chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and onion rings. I went back to ask the staff if they could prepare my burger medium as they normally are cooked medium-well and it prepared perfectly. My burger was huge, tasty and juicy; and can't believe the price $8.00. I appreciated the fresh condiments; homemade pickles and red onions with they're homemade burger sauce. The homemade onions is a must try crispy batter and flavorful. Now as for hot chicken sandwich, it's was hot and flavorful, battered well and crispy. Also, sweet potato fries were good. I went there on a Sunday. They charged $.50 to change the cheese on my hamburger from American cheese to Swiss cheese. I ordered the hamburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. They did not change the cheese and did not put on the grilled onions and the grilled mushrooms. I asked the cashier to refund me the charge for the swiss cheese. He did not know how to do that.
