Ask that said- for me to buy bbq somewhere repeatedly says A LOT. I use this spot as a solid go to for brisket and ribs. That's about it for me- the burnt ends are good too. Tried the potato salad and the beans- not a fan. Wasn't overwhelmed by the baked potato either. Prices are a little steep, but what else ain't these days? Okay so the food is actually way above standard for a BBQ spot attached to the grocery store. However, the service was slightly disappointing. They didn't have the details for my order prepared and they were preparing to delay me despite my arrival being timed 5 minutes after the estimated ready time. I was in need of a quick BBQ fix. I looked on Yelp and came across True Texas BBQ. I did not realize that they are affiliated with H-E-B. The website boasts that they were recognized as Texas Monthly's Best BBQ Chain. I was a little skeptical so I did some research. While it is true that they received this title in 2019, the author of the article (Daniel Vaughn) changed his opinion in 2023 stating that they have "recently yielded some disappointing results as locations expand." This was my first visit so I can't compare the quality of the BBQ from a few years ago. Compared to other fast casual BBQ restaurants, I would agree that they are not the best chain in Texas. When I arrived, there was a line. My first impression was that this place must be good if there's a line. Then I realized that there was only one ordering kiosk (out of three) that was working. You can order at the kiosk, or order through the app. I didn't want to download the app, but I'm glad I did because it saved a lot of time. I downloaded the app and ordered while in line. The people in front of me waited for the kiosk. By the time they placed their order at the kiosk, I was leaving with my food. If you have an account with H-E-B, you can use that same info to log in. If you order online and select "asap," it takes about 10 minutes. You are able to place an order up to a day in advance. I ordered the one meat plate consisting of turkey, collard greens, and potato salad. The turkey wasn't bad. It was flavorful, but the skin was spicy. The collard greens were seasoned, but it had too much vinegar. The potato salad was a little bland. They gave two tiny slices of pickles and onions as a garnish. If you like pickles and onions, be sure to request extra. I requested BBQ sauce in the order, but realized that all of the condiments are located in the seating area. They have two types: spicy and sweet. I opted for sweet, but I found that it still had a slight kick to it. The seating area has quite a few tables and most of the tables are covered. There were maybe 3 tables that were not covered. The seating area was clean. In addition to BBQ plates, you can order meat by the pound. The menu also offers items like sandwiches, baked potatoes, brisket nachos, and loaded mac and cheese. One has to order through kiosk and use a credit card, no cash. You place your order, pay for it and then get notified by text or their calling your name at pickup window that your order is ready. There is a seating area that is covered, and the kiosk ordering area is also covered. I got 2 meat plate with 2 sides-sausage and lean brisket. The brisket was a little salty and the sausage really had no flavor I would almost say it was boiled, it was so flavorless. The potato salad also had no flavor and the brisket beans were only so so. At least the food was hot. They forgot my sauce as well. Quick service. Beans w brisket is awesome. The greens were seasoned and flavorful. I got the fatty brisket and one piece was mostly fat but that is what I asked for lol. Full of liquid smoke, I couldn't finish my brisket, service is great , I really like the kiosk. Ambience was garbage, no ac to sit down and eat. The meat was really tender but the flavor just tasted it artificial. I asked the cashier how they cooked their meats and they told me they use an oven type style smoker. Red flags immediately. This is a new bbq option in the area. Right outside of the new HEB Manvel. It's an order through the app or kiosk outside place walk-up/take out place. I ordered when I was almost done shopping, and my food was hot and ready when I picked up. We tried the large sliced beef sandwiches. Both had a lot of meat and was well worth the money. It came with sauce,pickles, and onions. I requested my sauce on the side, but they forgot to put it in my bag. The food was good, and the brisket was moist and seasoned well. A neighbor had a similar issue with missing food/sauce. My suggestion is to check your order before you leave. Its a new place so they can work out the kinks. I'm definitely trying again. read more

Not good, wanted sliced brisket, sold out before 8pm, my daughter ordered the chopped beef instead, sloppy sandwich, no sauce provided and the sandwich is smaller than a McDonald's fish sandwich.
