Banh Khot
Sandee L.

On the hunt for some banh khot as good as the ones in SoCal. We got an order of sausage spring rolls, banh khot and netted egg rolls. All were made to order and the staff was so sweet. The netted egg rolls and banh khot came with a baggie of greens: lettuce and fresh herbs. I thought everything was tasty, but if I'm being honest, it still wasn't on SoCal level. All our food was solid, though my friend found a hair halfway into her netted egg roll. She set it aside and tried not to think about further. We also ordered a sugar cane and passion fruit tea which was refreshing. They ran out of pandan waffles so we got the cookies to go (meh). Mostly a to-go establishment with party trays available. They do have a couple small tables and chairs if you want to eat there while it's fresh though.

Place is simple yet nearly and nicely setup. 3 small tables if you liked to eat in. Service was good: he told me right. Way it would take about 18-20mins for 20 net egg rolls. So I patiently waited. Food came at that exact time. Cane sugar drink was good. Passion fruit drink was ok. Easy parking, right outside. Will come again.

I recently ordered catering items from SJ Eggrolls for a birthday party I was hosting, and it was sooo delicious! I ordered a tray of 20 nem nuong rolls and 40 pieces of their banh khot. Both items were so generous and actually fairly large! It also came with a side of their orange sauce for the rolls and fish sauce, veggies/herbs, and chilies on the side for guests who love spicy. Definitely larger portions and super affordable. We picked up the items 30 mins before our party started, and they were still fresh and crispy throughout the whole night! I was expecting the banh khot to get soggy/be soggy but it held up very nicely. I love the way they packaged everything and would 100% recommend for those who need easy finger food for their parties. Also ordering from them was very easy. I did it online a week in advance and they texted me at exactly 530p to let me know it was ready for pickup. Inside was a little small, considering it's mostly pickup and go, but loved how quick and easy everything was!

Famous eggroll shop in San jose. It small shop with some seating inside. The store is clean. This place is famous for it vietnamese small bite. We ordered Banh khot, egg roll, Banh Hoi, and vietnamese ice coffee. I like the Banh Khot and egg roll. Looks like it is made when you order it. They are warm and crunchy. Banh Hoi is ok. The vietnamese ice coffee is strong and good. Will visit next time for other stuff.

I first heard about this place after seeing Raina post about a food challenge she did here. The crispy egg rolls looked so good that I had to check it out. I was especially hoping the spring rolls would be similar to the ones I love from Brodard in Southern California, so I came in with my fingers crossed. They have some nice combo deals, but I wanted to sample a few different items instead. I ordered one of each of the fried egg rolls (only $2 each) and originally ordered the pork and shrimp spring rolls. While I was waiting, I changed my mind and decided I wanted to try the Nem Nuong rolls instead. They were incredibly nice and changed my order without any issues, which I really appreciated. The place was extremely busy, so I ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. The net-wrapped egg roll was excellent, super crispy with great flavor. Just be sure to eat it over a plate or with a bag underneath because those crunchy flakes go everywhere! The regular egg roll was slimmer than I expected, but it was also very tasty. The Nem Nuong rolls were good too. They didn't quite reach the level I was hoping for compared to Brodard, but they were still very enjoyable. The house dipping sauce was delicious and really complemented the rolls. They also include a small container of hot sauce for anyone who likes a little spice. I tried it, but honestly preferred sticking with the house sauce. The restaurant itself is small and simple, with only about three tables, so it seems like it's geared more toward takeout, which was obvious from the steady stream of takeout orders while I was there. Next time, I'll probably call my order in ahead of time to save some waiting. Overall, a great spot for Vietnamese appetizers at reasonable prices. I'll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu.

Can't even tell you how many times I've been here! This is my go to spot for lunch and dinner takeout and what I bring to every party. The place is clean, prices are great, food is wonderful, service is quick and efficient if you order in advance enough. I recommend ordering online or calling ahead because they do get pretty busy. It's a small restaurant primarily specializing in take out and catering, that's why they are open so early and close a bit on the earlier side too. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like. Banh Khot is the best I've had, it's insanely crispy and flavorful. The fish sauce is just the way I like it and the veggies are so fresh. It remains crispy even if it's been sitting for a bit (as long as you air it out) and if you reheat it in the air fryer, it's still crisp! The net egg rolls or regular are wonderfully crispy and flavorful. The nem nuong is the best I've had, just like the OG spot in SoCal. The garlic noodles are so chewy and garlicky in the best way. They even have sugar cane juice which is so refreshing to wash everything down. If you're looking for a quick Viet fix this is THE spot to go to. Don't hesitate any further!

I had to try them. Walked by here many times always thinking I should but always just ate beforehand. Ands as expected, they were quite good. Crispy and tasty. But kind of smaller than I expected for the price. And it takes a long time to get them after ordering so I'm ambivalent about the service; I think because they have a lot of online our phone orders. Personally I think in house orders should take precedence. But they come out piping hot and are worth it. The place itself is ok... few places to sit and seems clean.

Nice little pick up spot if you're looking for some appetizers to go. I like using their online pickup option, makes it super quick and easy. I recently learned about banh khot and it's become something I really enjoy. The lettuce and pickled veggies make it so refreshing and it still has the perfect crisp which I very much enjoy

A great deal with tasty food! I visited on a Wednesday afternoon, and it was surprisingly busy. The interior is spacious but only has a couple tables. We waited for a bit, and a table opened up shortly after. You place your order with the cashier before finding a seat. The atmosphere of SJ Eggrolls is casual, with a huge TV playing sports and minimal decor. The food arrived soon after I ordered. Their signature net egg rolls are phenomenal. I am obsessed with the crunchy net wrapping - it was the perfect crispy texture. The filling of pork and shrimp was savory and delicious. It paired well with lettuce, mint, pickled carrots, and a sweet chili sauce. I loved the spring rolls as well. They tasted super fresh and had a variety of fillings. The Chinese sausage spring roll was my absolute favorite. The salty sausage contrasted well against the clean, fresh vegetables. Every dish was a very good price. Such an incredible experience, I can't wait for my next visit!

Finding good banh khot in the area is difficult lol. I've heard so much about SJ Eggrolls so I was excited to try them out for the first time! I read up on some reviews before coming in and learned there could be a long wait, so I ended up calling in ~30 minutes before I planned on getting there. I was particularly excited about the Banh Khot and netted eggrolls the most, but they mentioned that the eggrolls were unfortunately sold out that day (we came in around lunchtime on a weekend) We ordered the banh khot and garlic shrimp noodles and ate them at home, and both were delicious!! The banh khot was warm and crunchy. I love when you can taste hints of coconut and when the garlic is suuuper strong lol The garlic noodles were alright tbh. The noodles were a little hard but the shrimp was cooked perfectly! They're definitely meant to be more of a takeout spot. They were pushing out party trays like crayyyy when we were there. I'd definitely keep them in mind for these occasions in the future!

Ordered online from their website and walked in to pick it up. It was a bit of a wait on a Friday morning which was surprising but great to know the food is coming out fresh. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my estimated pickup time and the egg rolls (netted and regular) were ready but the Banh Khot were still being cooked. The estimated pickup time on the website was pretty accurate. Everything made the 35 minute journey home and stayed crispy!! The regular egg rolls were tasty but nothing special. The netted egg rolls however, I'd come back for. They were crispy all throughout and the filling was well seasoned. The Banh Khot were very crispy with a nice and pleasant chew from the coconut batter. My husband loved the flavor and texture. I wasn't a huge fan of the coconut flavor being so prominent but I know that's a staple of Banh Khot batter. Next time I'd skip the regular egg rolls but I'm happy I tried them!

Pauline N.

Only tried this place once and it has been on my mind ever since. Generally, people come here for the netted eggrolls but in my opinion, it ain't all that. What I LOVE from SJ Eggrolls is the garlic noodles with the garlic butter shrimp. IT SO DELICIOUS! One of the best garlic noodles I've ever had and the shrimp was tasty. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the shell was soft to eat. Another item I love here is the banh khot! So crispy, fresh, and fried well. Very limited seating, this is more of a take out spot. Food is fresh to made, it took about 20-30 mins for all our food.

Hole in the wall in a huge plaza. Everything I tried was so delicious, fresh, and crispy!! Would def come back for all three items I got: Banh Khot, eggrolls, and net eggrolls. 10/10 highly recommend!! (Down 1 star due to cleanliness of the space)

They don't only serve foods but also varieties of drinks like milk tea and other drinks. You can look at the back of the menu to view the rest of the drinks. My family and I decided to get that one dish that includes vermicelli, vegetables, and meats. If I'm correct, it comes with wrappers where you have to dip it on water. Again it's my first time and I failed the first time in wrapping the ingredients in a wrapper, but at the second time, I got it to put everything together. Tastes really good especially when you dip it in a big bowl of sauce. Also the rest of the food is good too. To provide myself a much more full experience, I decided to get Roasted Oolong Milk Tea. Tastes really fresh and sweet. No wonder why this place made a restaurant and cafe coexist. I honestly wish there are more options for milk teas though.

The banh beo stuck to the plate. The pork patty in the bun cha Hanoi was bland. We got a mountain of herbs but also got cucumber that went bad (it was yellow). I came for lunch on a Friday and the restaurant was approximately half full. My party was seated right away. I noticed most tables had their specialty dish, 36B on the menu, which is grilled fish with thin noodles and vegetables; this was a dish my party wanted to try. I also ordered their Vietnamese shaking beef with red rice (menu item 47). The food came quickly, in about ten minutes or so. The shaking beef came first and had a nice flavor and texture as expected for shaking beef. The dish had a bit more onions and peppers than I would've liked but still had a good amount of beef. This also came with a side soup which was nice to not overwhelm the palate with shaking beef flavor. The grilled fish was tasty with a nice crisp. The fish also tasted very good with the included noodles and greens. I could see why this is Thien Long's most popular dish because it is very good. Overall, the Thien Long menu is pretty extensive and has a lot of offerings in case you don't know what you want to eat. That being said, this restaurant does not really specialize in any particular type of Vietnamese dish so you may be better off going to Vietnam Town if you know you want a specific dish.

It's local, the food has always been good to excellent, and there are some fond memories that keep bringing us back. We came here again on a Sunday evening around 8:15pm, just before closing. Here's my updated review. Food (4 stars) * Shaking Beef (4.5 stars) - This is our kids' usual order, and they love it! The beef was cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice char on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The marinade has a subtle sweetness that really complements the beef. It comes with mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions. You can choose white rice or tomato rice, but my kids prefer white rice. The portion is generous enough for both kids to share, and there's even enough rice left for me! * Half & Half Turmeric Fish and Grilled Pork (4 stars) - This is one of our longtime favorites. You get the best of both worlds with their signature turmeric fish and flavorful grilled pork. The fish is consistently good, served over a bed of onions and fresh green herbs. The pork is thinly sliced and can be a little dry from cooking, but it's well seasoned and flavorful. Once you wrap everything together with the vermicelli, herbs, and vegetables in rice paper, the dryness becomes almost unnoticeable. They give you plenty of rice paper and vermicelli noodles, so you won't leave hungry. I just wish they were a little more generous with the fresh vegetables on the side. That's more of a personal preference than a complaint. * Fried Flour Cake with Egg (3.5 stars) - We ordered this as our appetizer. It's good, but not the best version I've had. The flour cake is surrounded by quite a bit of egg, making it feel more like a flour cake omelet than the traditional dish I'm used to. The accompanying dipping sauce has a nice sweet and tangy flavor that brings everything together. It's enjoyable, just not particularly memorable compared to some of the better versions I've tried elsewhere. Service/Ambiance (4 stars) * We arrived fairly close to closing time. There were only a handful of customers left, and eventually we were the last table. The staff started cleaning up around us, but we never felt rushed. I really appreciate restaurants that allow their customers to finish their meals comfortably, even when it's almost time to close. * One thing I'll never forget about this restaurant happened during the pandemic. My wife came here to pick up food, but at the time they were a cash-only business, and she didn't have any cash. Instead of turning her away, they simply told her to take the food and pay them the next time she came back! My wife went straight to the bank and returned with the money. What an incredible gesture of kindness and trust! It's those little things that make you remember an establishment for years. They now accept credit cards, by the way. ~ The ambiance is pretty typical of a casual Vietnamese restaurant. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough for a family meal. You'll often see plenty of Vietnamese customers dining here, which adds to the authentic neighborhood restaurant feel.

I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room.
