I went to Sip Cafe in City Square after doing a few errands with low expectations. I did come here previously and my memory of this place was how busy and tight it was. When I arrived, there were 5 tables and a good amount of chair/bench seats. It smelled delicious like bahn mi! I was here for the drinks though. I saw earl grey was their current flavor and I immediately was gravitated to that. The matcha came out and it was a darker muddled green. I was a little skeptical at first but the flavor was good! The earl grey was sweet but not overpowering. My husband also really enjoyed it too. I'll be back to try other things. I think we had Hojicha last time but like I mentioned, it wasn't memorable.
Finally got to try Sip! It's a little out of the way for me, but I'm glad I made the trip over. I really wanted to try Sip's new earl grey matcha, and matcha in general - it's the main reason I came! I'm really picky about my matcha and prefer making it myself because I haven't found a great spot on the island yet. The color of the matcha was really vibrant/green which is a good sign, but I do like my matcha a lot stronger. I thought the earl grey syrup and milk overtook the flavor of the matcha and I ended up making more matcha at home and pouring it in. Next time I'd love to try a plain matcha latte! As for food, we got a bunch of the pho French dip banh mi and lemongrass tofu banh mi. I really enjoyed the French dip! Sandwiches were super flavorful and fresh! I was impressed by this cafe and was surprised because after just one visit (I guess I had a larger order) I already got a reward of $5 off my next order! Looking forward to returning.
Me and a friend went here , small but nice and clean quick and friendly service. We got the Vietnamese coffee and Matcha Coco Foam both were good. We also ordered Banhmi Roast Pork it was pretty good could have use a bit more meat but the bread and veggies on it were good. Plenty of Parking too.
Happened on @sipcafehnl by chance and what a happy surprise. Mom needed to go shopping @citysquarehawaii and MySonShine sent us on some business to @fromthehearthawaii for some stickers. How convenient I already knew I wanted the banana matcha cream latte and D1 got the mango yuzu tonic. So yummy and refreshing. Not too sweet. Everything the both of us had been craving. Plenty of parking in the lot. Simple decor inside. And a few tables inside, maybe 6. Super nice cashier. Will definitely return to try their banh mi next time and a different drink. #supportlocal
We're honestly not very familiar with Vietnamese cuisine besides pho and fresh spring rolls, and we'd never tried banh mi before. We always assumed with all the aromatics and hard, cold French bread just wouldn't be our thing. Well, we were completely wrong. We ordered the Saigon Classic and Roast Pork banh mi and both were so good! The sauce was real delicious, the vegetables added the perfect crunch, and most of all, the bread was nice and toasted. Only feedback is that the cucumber is usually left uncut, making it difficult to split the sandwich cleanly. If they finished slicing all the way through, it'd be perfect. I read some reviewers mention their banh mi are on the smaller side, and I can see that now. After trying another highly rated banh mi spot a few weeks later, we actually preferred Sip's by a lot. The flavors, sauce, and bread were just more enjoyable to us. Taste is subjective, especially since we're new to banh mi, but Sip's definitely won us over. As for the drinks, I ordered the Banana Cream Matcha. The banana cream was light, creamy, and very good, but the matcha itself was very light--almost watered down. Since these trendy drinks are quite expensive these days, I'd recommend more for trying the banana cream than for the matcha quality itself. My boyfriend ordered the Einspänner Latte, thinking it would use a regular espresso and milk base like the Korean versions we've had, so we were a little surprised to find out it was made with Vietnamese coffee. It ended up being much thicker and sweeter than we expected. The cafe itself is pretty small with only a few seats, so I'd plan on taking your food to go if it's busy. Highlight for us was the banh mi and we'll definitely be back-- even if the area is such a pain to drive though.
I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and I finally got the chance to stop by. I ordered the egg cream latte and the roasted pork bánh mì. The vibe inside is chill with a few tables if you want to dine in. There's plenty of parking in the area, though it can get busy depending on the time. The staff was very nice and accommodating, which added to the overall experience. The egg cream latte was pretty good, definitely stronger than I expected, even for a latte. The bánh mì was also good: crunchy bread, fresh veggies, and great presentation. Overall, I'd rate my experience an 8/10. I'd come back to try other drinks for sure and it definitely made me miss Vietnam.
Amazing matcha with egg cream was delicious and the banh mi was surprisingly very delicious. Highly recommend the pate and the pho broth on the side. They were accommodating by ensuring no onions are provided on our sandwiches
I had just fasted for a blood work so I was starving. Came here and devoured my banh mi but there wasn't much to it. Way too much veggies, no pate :( and cold cuts weren't anything special. Their matcha on the other hand was redeeming part of this experience. I got the banana cream matcha. I think this place is more known for their drinks than sandwiches. But the Vietnamese coffee fell short. Their coffee beans or grounds were burnt..
Enjoyed my sip at Sip Cafe! As a matcha girlie, I was taken here by Li Y. to fill my matcha fix. Matchas are decent, and it's nice they offer food offerings. We came on a holiday morning, not too crowded. The cafe is moderately sized, with a few tables. Not much decor, just a chill space. Ordering was a breeze: look at the menu, order at the register, and wait for your drinks to be called out. The service was kind and helpful. I was indecisive because there were lots of matcha options, but ultimately went for what they're best known for -- Banana Cream Matcha with Oat Milk. The matcha was good, with a not-too-strong profile, and I could taste the light banana. I would say it was decent compared to other matcha shops. I'd be curious to try their other offerings. Sip Cafe is located in City Square Shopping Center. Parking is available throughout the plaza. They're also known for their banh mi, so swing by for a drink and a bite to eat!
When I first dated a Vietnamese woman, some years ago, I knew next to nothing about Viet cuisine let alone coffee culture. Now, Vietnamese coffee is more prevalent as the US is in its third wave of coffee. But through the years - I have not had a Vietnamese Egg Coffee... Cà Phê Trứng...until the other week at Sip Cafe in the City Square Shopping Center. I believe they opened this January. I had their Egg Cream Latte ( as they reference it ) and it was very good. Viertnamese coffee uses robusta beans and it's brewed strong. Egg yolks are whipped with condensed milk to create a velvety foam...very refreshing and eye-opening - as in not for the caffeine-sensitive. Also, tried their Iced Mango Coconut Cloud Matcha...a special, posted on their counter. It was quite good. They have bahn mi and and serve a few pastries. Open daily from 800a to 400p. Floor space has enough room for 4 tables. Plenty of parking in the shoppitcenter though it can get very busy during peak hours. Metered stalls are on Kohou Street.
Sip Café has become one of my go-to spots in Honolulu. It's such a cute little café, and every time I stop by, the service is quick and the staff is incredibly attentive. Everyone is always friendly and on top of things, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming. Their matcha is delicious and consistently good, which is honestly what keeps bringing me back. I've also had their bánh mì sandwiches a few times, and they're so good. The bread has that perfect crunch when you bite into it, and the meat is always savory and packed with flavor. Overall, it's just one of those places that's easy to recommend. Great matcha, tasty food, fast service, and a staff that genuinely seems to care about their customers.
Please don't get discouraged by my review. Everyone has different taste buds and this place might be for you. Located in a busy shopping, there is plenty of parking but the area does get really busy so I recommend not coming at peak times. Luckily you can order online and pick up your food. There are about 5 tables spread about the cafe with seating. The place was clean and had AC. The staff were friendly and gave helpful suggestions. The service was fast as well. I ordered the roasted pork Banh mi. Personally, the sandwich didn't do it for me. I felt like they could have cut the cucumbers smaller, like shredded or chop them so you don't have this slab of veggie you're gnawing at as you take a bite. I agree with other Yelpers that the price vs the size, it's a little on the expensive side given what you get. It tasted a little bland for me and when you did get to some of the sauce, it was on the sweeter side than what I've had in the past at other places. What I noticed is a lot of people come here for the drinks. After all they are called a cafe and on their sign they list coffee as the first thing. I didn't order a drink but their menu seemed very popular and people seemed to enjoy jt. They do offer free water cups if you don't want to purchase a drink. They do have QR code menus and you can order online or call your order in if you don't want to order in the cafe. Overall, I think it's an up and coming small business that people should give a try. It might be for you.
My hubby and I decided to try this place out last week. The shop is small and has six tables that you can sit at. We went around noon on a Saturday. Four out of the six tables were occupied with a few people walking in and doing take out. We ordered the roast pork banh mi $13, nem sausage (grilled beef sausage) banh mi $13, large banana cream matcha $7.50 sub oat milk $0.50 and a small Viet coffee $5. Both banh mis were delicious. My roast pork had crispy skin and it was tender. I would have preferred a little more meat as there was a lot of veggies. Along with the mayo they put this brown sauce (tasted kind of like hoisin sauce) which kicked it up a notch. The banh mis were smaller than what I'm used to. I still left full though, but not my hubby. He eats way more than I do. The Viet coffee was perfect with the condensed milk. My hubby said it was strong, but he's not used to it. It was perfect for me. I loved the banana cream matcha. I couldn't stop picking at the banana cream, haha. If you like banh mis you should give this place a try.
Ordered lemon grass tofu banh mi. Very tasty. Good amount of tofu with right amount of seasoning. The sandwich was a little small. The bread crust was pretty hard. Also got the hoji latte. The tea taste could have been stronger. Lots of parking. The lines/wait was long. Could be due to the grand openning. read more

We came here right before noon on a Thursday so there wasn't much of a wait time but since this spot just opened up a few days ago it may get busier after their grand opening. I wanted to come here because it's the first spot I've seen that has an egg cream Vietnamese coffee. Oh my search is over! The coffee wasn't too sweet and the cream gave it just a tad of sweetness. But their banh mi was so good - from the bread to the filling flavors. The pho dip was tasty too. I'd probably order that with any of the banh mi. There are 6 small tables in its small space and if you're by the window, it may get hot. But I'm still coming back for more of their banh mi. read more
First time coming here last week and it was so busy, absolutely packed! I came for the drinks and they were good but the food was really amazing! The sandwich with pho dip was really good, we drank the broth after finishing the sandwich lol. Pork sandwich was yummy too. Kind of expensive but a nice treat once in a while. read more

Super stoked for a place super close to me to get matcha/coffee!!! Of course I had to go and try it. I got the banana cream matcha which was $7 something. It was a little too sweet for my liking. I am definitely asking them to maybe lessen the sweetness level next time. But the banana taste was very good. On point and super creamy. I know they have an egg iced coffee that I want to taste. They are still super new so it's very simple in there with a couple of tables and chairs and just their Menu on their table. The service is super friendly and the drink came out quick! read more

Brah if someone says any other place get the best Banh Mi, they either never try Sip's one before, or they better get one covid test. You won't be cutting the roof of your mouth every time you take a bite here. Their bread is crispy, flaky, and fluffy at the same time. They also give plenty meat and their sauce is magic. I hate the drive there. I don't even like banh mi lol. But, I've been back so many times for this viet masterpiece. Get the Saigon Special. Their other stuff good too though (2nd place - pho dip). read more
Love banh mi's so when I saw this place had matcha too I was sold. I got their roast pork banh mi and banana matcha. Loved both!! Reasonably priced and so fast and friendly. The banh mi was filled with a lot of pork and the bread was crispy. The matcha was really good too with banana flavor that didn't taste too artificial. Can't wait to come back and try more flavors of both! read more

Everything tasted amazing! I got the roasted pork n my bf got the pastrami. Everything was really flavorful and moist with sauces. I would like to make a recommendation to the business as I'm Vietnamese and eat banh mi sandwiches a lot. It would be nice if the Saigon sandwich meat was sliced thin like how it is traditionally. I would save that about the roast pork too but I think for it to be crunchy it has to be cut thick like they do. Other than that it was very yummy! read more

I really liked these sandwiches! It didn't look too big but it was so filling and flavorful. The extra soup on the side was a great choice of an add on. The banana matcha was good too but the price point and the size of the cups wasn't the best. But with that said I did think that the drink was worth it. Location is great lots of parking, call your order ahead of time bc it did get busy and there can be a wait read more
I've been a little obsessed with Bahn Mi lately so when I seen Sip Cafe open I had to try! We pre-ordered ahead of time to pick up lunch for the office. The Bahn Mi were super delicious! We got the Pastrami, Pho Dip, and Roast Pork. I loved the Pho Dip because the brisket was soft and flavorful, and the pho dip was perfect with the sandwich. Best of both worlds! The mayo they use was also really good. We also tried some of their match drinks. The Einspanner is topped with vanilla cold foam. Overall everything was good. read more

We've come so many time but always pau before we think of taking pictures or doing a review. Haha - it's that good!! Plus, I don't make reviews unless I absolutely enjoy and recommend it. Hands down, the best damn Banh Mi on the island!! We've tried over 10 different locations in Oahu and nothing compares. Mind you, we've eaten Banh Mi all over the world so we have a certain level of expectations for this sandwich. What stands out is the pate and meats, full of flavor. Chefs kiss IMO, if you cannot make the basic traditional banh mi- with the pate, why bother? Clearly this was crafted with heart, traditions and in house so worth every penny. The Egg Foam Matcha is incredible, I have not had this drink anywhere else on the island so definitely a favorite. Highly recommend eating here, you won't be disappointed. read more

We absolutely loved this place! The Einspänner Coffee was delicious and strong, the Einpänner Hojicha had the perfect toasty and earthy flavor. The flavor of Strawberry Shortcake in the matcha drink really came through, while the matcha flavor was lighter, it was still a really delicious match drink. We also had the Blueberry Lemon Cookie. Its was soft but crispy around the edges, just how I like my cookies. We liked it so much we came back again a third time and had more drinks and their Bahn Mi with Pho Dip! All i have to say is...if you try only one thing, it's this!! The staff were nice and friendly and the cafe itself is small, in comparison to the line of people waiting to order something to enjoy. definitely not a deal breaker for me, because by the time I had my order there was always open seats. read more
Cashier was very welcoming and nice. Ordered the egg cream matcha and hojicha and it was delicious! It seems like they use agave as their sweetener. Only problem was it was stuck at the bottom and not fully mixed in with the drink. Overall great drink spot! read more

I came, I Saw, I drank, I ate. and was disappointed. Seeing the only two Yelp reviews posted. Decided to try them out. I was fifth in line and waited patently. The person taking orders apologized to everyone in front of me. Which I thought was a nice gesture. I could see through the opaque curtains that was 3 workers in back. I got my order in about fifteen minutes. My Matcha came out and five minutes later my sandwich. I decided to try a new drink. So I ordered a Banana Cream Matcha. For me I thought that it could of had more of a banana flavor. Ordered a Pastrami Banh mi. The bread was good. I'm not sure if in Vietnam the Pastrami is shredded beef. It didn't have the flavors or texture of Pastrami that I'm costume to. The shop itself was clean. It did have a few two seater tables. I wanted to to try their pastries, there was none. Don't be discouraged by my reviews. Try this new shop out. Enjoy read more

Went in with my partner and we got 2 classic banh mi and a matcha. Matcha was good :) Very strong and not watered/milked down at all. THE BANH MI THOUGH??? Best I've ever had. Not too tough, good amount of flavor, nicely toasted buns, pork floss was great with the other meats, the fatty parts cooked perfectly, and fresh pickled veg. They do NOT skimp out on anything. The staff were all friendly, kind, and they serve your food to you. Not typical for a cafe! Loved it. The tables were quite small. Perfect for the food and drinks you get here. We meant to come have lunch and study but it's not really a study spot exactly since the space is small. There is no Wi-fi available here but I used a hot spot and the food gave us a nice boost to get some things done! The day we came there ended up being a long line after we walked in. Despite the amount of customers, the food came within a reasonable time and it was so so worth the wait. Even with a lot of customers, the environment set by the shop made it feel less crowded which I loved. Good music, good vibes, definitely check it out. Will be coming back for the banh mi. I hope this cafe is here to stay read more
I first visited Sip Cafe on just their second day open, and they were absolutely slammed, which is always a good sign for a new spot. The café itself is clean, bright, and welcoming, and despite how busy it was, the cashier (who I believe was the owner) was very friendly, patient, and welcoming, which really stood out and set a positive tone for the visit. On that first visit, I ordered the Saigon Classic -- Vietnamese cold cuts, pork floss, pickled vegetables, cilantro, and mayo -- and I really enjoyed it. The flavors were solid, fresh, and comforting, exactly what you want from a bánh mì. My daughter had been really looking forward to the roast pork, but they were unfortunately out, so she ordered the pastrami instead. The sandwiches did take a while to come out, which was totally understandable given how busy they were and how new they are. When we received our order, the labels were switched -- the Saigon Classic was labeled pastrami and vice versa. Not a huge issue for us, but it could've been confusing if the sandwiches were going to different people or locations. My daughter wasn't too into her pastrami, mainly because she had her heart set on the roast pork, and she didn't realize the sandwich included pâté until after ordering. Tip for first-timers: definitely read the ingredients if pâté isn't your thing. We both ordered matcha lattes, which came out fairly quickly, but by the time the sandwiches arrived they were a bit watered down from sitting -- again, understandable with how busy it was. I came back again today and had a much smoother experience. I ordered the Nem Sausage Bánh Mì -- grilled beef sausage, pickled vegetables, cilantro, mayo, and I added jalapeños -- and it was delicious. The bread was warm, crisp, and chewy. Great flavor, satisfying, and nicely balanced. I also tried the Hojicha Einspanner, which is hojicha topped with a thick, lightly sweetened cream, and it was good; smooth, and not overly sweet. Overall, Sip Cafe shows a lot of promise. Opening days are always hectic, but the food is good, the drinks are thoughtful, and the clean, bright space and welcoming service make a difference. I'm excited to keep coming back. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Brand new matcha cafe so decided to check it out with friends! Aside from the Dillingham parking lot always being crowded, it took a little bit to find a stall. It is probably best to go at off hours or there is street parking available but it's metered. As soon as I approached the store I could tell inside was packed and there was a line outside just to order. There's a few tables inside with 2 chairs each so finding a sit down place for a big group might be difficult. Between our group we got the banana cream matcha, egg cream hojicha, and egg cream matcha drinks. We also got the roast pork bahn mi with pho broth to dip. The roast pork bahn mi was good but certain ingredients seemed to clash with each other. The pickled radish/carrots and cucumbers were a bit sweet. The roast pork flavor was good but wasn't as crispy as I would have liked. It also was a bit spicy but there wasn't any jalapeños or anything in it. My friends could not drink their banana cream matcha drinks because it had a chemical taste to it. I'm not sure if it was the banana extract used to flavor the cream. But it reminded us of acetone nail cleaner. The hojicha egg cream drink was fine but could have used more hojicha flavor and the egg cream was very subtle in flavor. read more

Food was so flavorful and drinks were chefs kiss. Here is what I ordered in the last 2 visits: Me: Roast Pork bánh mì + Einspanner Husband: Pastrami bánh mì + Egg cream latte Daughter: Pho Dip bánh mì + Ube matcha - - - - - Me: Roast Pork bánh mì + Strawberry shortcake matcha Daughter: Pho Dip bánh mì + Strawberry shortcake matcha Cousin: Roast Pork bánh mì + Egg cream latte It is a little small in there. There's about 6 small round tables, and they do have extra chars if needed. Drinks came out fairly quick, and the bánh mì's took a little time, but not long. And really I felt that it was worth the wait! The broth from my daughter's pho dip was well flavored, the roast pork - perfect pieces inside the bánh mì, with the crispy skin it was so yummy. It paired nicely with the pickled veggies that are usually in a bánh mì. The pastrami is tasty - my husband did say he would like for it to have the pickled veggies in it, but it was still good. Matcha was a good ratio, not watery - BUT you do need to mix it because the syrup is on the bottom. And truly not a problem for me. But just in. Are you take a sip before mixing and it's sweet...that's why. The egg cream was so different. It was a perfect sweetness. read more
Visited twice so far, and will be back. Overall, I ordered the Pho Dip, and a few matcha drinks. The sandwich was good - braised beef was perfect, good amount of pickled onions and meat. The bread had a nice crisp on the outside and soft. Not too soft, not too chewy, not stale (all wins for me). The beef had so much flavor that I didn't dip it in the pho broth so I just occasionally sipped the broth. Broth was good in terms of flavor. I wish there was more spice to it. But for it being meant as a dip, the flavor is just fine. I personally feel that the matcha drinks could use more matcha. It lacked depth and flavor and was more milky than actual matcha flavor. So I was a bit bummed about that. The first time I got a drink, it was gritty like the matcha didn't dissolve good? Unsure but really didn't enjoy it. Second time there was no grittiness so I was happy - but still lacked matcha flavor. Will try their other matcha drinks over time. Vietnamese coffee is good - strong! Service was good - quick, kind, professional, and they had good manners. I do appreciate "hello", "please", and "thank you". They have a few small tables and seating so outside of a lunch rush, you should be able to find a seat to enjoy your drinks and /or food. Excited to see this establishment grow. Will be back. read more

Sip Cafe is a new cafe located in City Square Shopping Center. I've tried Vietnamese egg coffee at many different places in the mainland and was so glad to see it made it here in Hawaii! Egg Cream Latte - a classic Viet coffee with egg cream. It is whipped egg yolk on top of strong bitter sweet coffee. If you've never had it before, it doesn't smell or taste like eggs, it's more so like a fluffy custard foam on top. This coffee was very good. Matcha Einspanner - decent, the matcha flavor was lacking. Bahn Mi's - Saigon Classic and Pho Dip. It was on the smaller side but there's a good amount of protein and vegetables inside. Outside bread wasn't as crispy as I'd prefer. Inside wasn't as soft and airy, making some of the bites chewy. But overall, it was still pretty good. The pho broth was clean, tasty and paired well with the sandwich. You also have to pay + .05 for jalapenos.. but they do offer sriracha upon request. Although lines got long, service was quick and workers were nice. There is limited seating inside so it's best for take out. Large free parking lot that does get busy. read more

Went with friends to meet up about our upcoming trip. It was busssssyyy. Lots of people, it is new. But we waited it out and got seats. We ordered both drinks and food. It came quickly. Went around 9 am on a Friday morning and there was no line. The cashier was really nice and friendly. I ordered the egg cream latte and my boyfriend got the classic viet coffee. We also ordered a Saigon banh mi. The coffees were both really good and not too sweet. They are nice and strong too which is what I love about vietnamese coffee. The banh mi was also tasty but it is smaller than the many other places I usually go to. Although I like that it does have pork floss in it as I have yet to see another place use it. Inside there are a few tables to sit at and I enjoy that they have lots of parking! I can't wait to go back to try their matcha! read more
New vietnamese cafe recently opened and wanted to go check it out. Ordered the egg cream latte and saigon banh mi pickled veggies on the side cause I hate vinegar. told the guy for here. drink came out pretty quick and is really good. Banh mi took much more time and came out togo wrapped and had to be brought back to the kitchen to put on a plate and then to have pickled vegetables inside. guy said he thought it was extra pickled vegetables on the side, but there was nun on the side anyway. takes it to the back again and just barely takes out all the veggies and puts it in a paper bowl, like what you expect me to like this now? crazy work read more

Incredibly flavorful banh mi and yummy drinks! I had the lemon grass tofu banh mi and it was sooo good-- maybe even one of the best i've had yet! We wanted to check out Sip Cafe, a newer spot that opened not too long ago, after hearing good things about their Vietnamese coffee and banh mi. We ordered the Roast Pork Banh Mi and the Saigon Special Banh Mi, along with a regular Vietnamese coffee and an Egg Cream Latte. The Egg Cream Latte--made with whipped egg yolk and condensed milk--sounded really interesting, so I had to try it. Both drinks were excellent. The coffee was rich and strong, stay-up-all-night strong. Both banh mi were very tasty. The roast pork was Chinese-style roast pork, which was flavorful, though a bit on the sweeter side for our preference. Still very good overall. Service was great--friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the menu. The shop itself was clean and welcoming. Definitely a solid spot if you're craving Vietnamese coffee and banh mi. read more
Okay, when I found out where this place is, I hesitated on actually going because the parking is just not it. I decided to do it anyway since my appointment was pushed back and I needed to kill some time. I ordered the Banana Cream Matcha and it was so worth the drive and parking situation, it's so tight to park there, especially near the entrance/exit. I ordered the 12 oz/small and wish I got the bigger size, because if you know me, I'm a slow drinker but actually finished my drink pretty quickly. I spoke with the cashier and asked him what other drinks are worth trying and he said that the one I ordered is super popular, I can't wait to try the other ones he mentioned, the uber and strawberry. Oh the coffee too! I'm sure all the drinks live up to the hype. I heard that the banh mi is super good too, definitely a must try when I have more time and when I'm in the area. The cafe has limited seating but it has a cute, minimalistic aesthetic! read more
