Singh's Cafe used to be one of my go-to restaurants in Wellesley, specifically for lunch. They had the best lunch deals which set them apart from any other Indian restaurant in the area which are typically very pricey. I recently came back specifically for lunch, and because of the change in management, the lunch specials were no longer available. I speak for myself and now several other of my friends who are very disappointed that this offering was taken away. To make things worse, the prices of the dishes were raised much higher. The pricing for the dishes were the same you would expect for dinner, which I am unsure for which they've raised as well. The food is still pretty good but I personally don't know if I'll be coming back. read more

This is probably a must-visit Indian restaurant in the Boston area. Their food is to die for. Their vegetarian and nonvegetarian options are amazing. We had the aloo gobi and the chicken tikka masala. Both were really flavorful, hitting the right notes of real Punjabi cooking. We also got the lamb boti kebab to go, and it was absolutely fabulous, even a day later. Parking can be a bit tough, with street parking the main option, especially on a cold rainy night. read more

The food is absolutely delicious. I came here with a few other fellow grad students. We ordered the garlic naan and the cheese naan--both of which were really tasty! We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which had a really nice tangy, but rich and flavorful taste. We also ordered the Lamb Palak which was absolutely fabulous! Be sure to order their shrimp Biryani along with a side of raita. You can be sure to get great service here. Be warned that not to order on dish per person. Share dishes when possible. Singh's has become our go-to restaurant because of its outdoor cafe tables, set up in a nice shady spot, perfect for a summer lunch outdoors. The waiters are scrupulous with masks, wiping the table, checking on us, and making sure the big pitcher of ice water stays filled. Wow! I live an hour away and was looking for something tasty to take home. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan and Lassi. Wonderful friendly service when I arrived to pick it up. The Lassi was delicious- perfect for my drive home. The Chicken Tikka Masala was incredible. Perfectly cut and cooked chicken pieces in a delicious sauce. And the garlic naan the best. Went to Singh's cafe for their lunch buffet. Got really full after a quick in and out within 40 mins that only costed $12 ($10 ish plus tips). Comparing to some other Indian buffets, Singh's doesn't have the largest selections of dishes. However, they do have all the basic popular dishes such as chicken tandoori, chicken marsala, as well as vegetarian dishes (paneer, potato and peas etc). Everything was tasty enough that I enjoyed my meal, however, nothing really stood out. Bottom line: good spot for a quick lunch that is of great value, but don't expect to be Wowed. read more

Went almost an year later to what I had known was a great Indian dining joint, but to my disappointment. 1. The menu is over simplified ( but that's okay) , the server was so disinterested mentioning what was on the drinks menu. ( and yes no one came to take our order until we went to where they were and mentioned that we were ready to order) 2. The servers are busy doing their own stuff, we had to wait for bread and ask them twice (we weren't hungry at all after a point waiting) 3. They just bring the bill based on their own interpretation of when you are done eating. The only plus was that the food was decent but other than that I wouldn't go to this place again, especially for the unwelcome one feels here and not so good ambience. read more

Came here for the AYCE weekend lunch buffet, and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the usual plain ol' buffet with standard menu items located in a shopping center. I was dead wrong. The main dining area is actually in the basement of a house (not sure if the rest of the house is commercial, residential or both, but whatevs). Upon first entering, I look around like The Rock with a raised eyebrow - where is everyone... and everything? The entryway is pretty misleading, and patrons are basically greeted (or not, rather) by a bunch of staff lounging around. Turn the corner, however, and you will see a narrow hallway with food lined up on one side - looking mighty good, I will add. As you progress to the seating area, you are now welcomed by wonderfully colorful room that's soft on the eyes. Service wise, they were a bit slow for my liking, but I'm used to go-time-all-the-time. However, with the plates being literally too hot to handle, one at least knows they be scrubbin' it all healthy-like in the back. For the food, there was a great selection of things I had no idea what they were. For vegetarian-friendly food, they had paneer masala (which is my favorite kind), and some other options I didn't bother with because they were not meat. For carnivores, they had deliciously tender chicken cooked in several styles - none of which were tikka masala or tandoori. While I was expecting those "classics," I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy these other dishes. Each was unique and not just chickens doused in a random sauce, and the flavours were exquisite while being mild enough for caucasians to tolerate (yes, I went there). Also unheard of was the presence of shrimp! Although I cannot comment on the authenticity of the venue, I don't care about it. I just love me good food at a good price. But maybe the clientele - the most ethnically diverse bunch I have seen in a New England suburb - can speak more about that. Now why not 5 stars? The dessert was pretty weak. The food is fine, and I would definitely still order from Singh's if I was craving Indian food in Wellesley. My Indian friend always wondered why I ate here so much because to her it wasn't just inauthentic, it was kind of bad. I did not understand until recently what she meant. The dishes are pretty hit or miss -- the chicken in the makhni was always cooked well and tender, I recall, and stuff like dal and chana are still pretty good to me. The baingan bharta tasted quite strange to me and much of it seems of a lower quality. But who knows! I know nothing about the stuff. I don't really ever feel like ordering it these days, though. read more

First time ordering take out and even though we're 20 min away and it's 20 degrees out, food was still warm. The food was fantastic. We accidentally ordered tandoori vegetables, and we were so glad we did. Vindaloo was spiced heavily, like we asked. Singh's Cafe offers the best Indian buffet in Metrowest Boston--hands down! The heat level is just right and the combination of spices is "divine." That's right, really great Indian food verges on being a religious experience for me, and this place is no exception. I've always found the wait staff extraordinarily solicitous and attentive. They never balk at my requests to know the "dairy" status of each and every delicious option on the buffet--and that's gotta be a hassle. :-) A nice perk--they regularly offer customers a free sample of their soup if waiting to pick up a take out order. Their prices are quite reasonable for a buffet of this size, scale, and level of delight. Street parking is usually doable, though you may have to park on the other side of the street. Warning--Wellesley meter-maids are almost as bad as Brookline. I once got a $25 ticket for being 2 mins. over the time limit. I would have been more upset about this, but still had a pleasant buzz going from my samosa-induced high. Note: If you're dairy-free there always seem to be several options to choose from on the buffet: rice, samosa, usually at least one meat dish and one vegetarian option. Although I'm also allergic to yeast, they kindly offered to bring me a non-dairy bread (free of charge) in place of the naan, due to my being casein-challenged :-) LOVE IT!!! read more

Singh's cafe - when you enter this restaurant it gives you all the vibe of an Indian restaurant in the US, just like ones in the Karan Johars film. The ambience is really good. The buffet wasn't too pricey. It didn't have a balance between veg and non-veg since we had lesser veggie food. When it comes to non-veg dishes, it was all chicken and a prawn appetizer. I must say the Chicken was really tasty! Lentil soup was amazing. Okra was average. Chicken tikka masala was amazing with the bread. The rice pudding was so yummy! One of the chicken appetizer sucked. It was really dry and bad. It was like the chicken 65. Overall the taste was good but the spread was limited. Will definitely come back. read more

It hurts me to leave this review, as I've enjoyed Singh's since they first opened several years ago. But tonight was a major flop and I hope the owner takes notice. Without further ado... I called to place a takeout order. The first thing that should have clued me in that something was amiss was that I had to call 3 times before someone actually answered the phone! It just rang and rang until an answering machine message picked up and said not to leave a message on the machine. Bad vibe. I started to wonder whether they went out of business, but I was jonesing for Indian food.... On the third try someone answered and took my order. I was quoted a time of 30 minutes for my food. I arrived at Singh's with a few minutes to spare as I love their tradition of being offered a complimentary taste of soup at the bar while the food is being packed. Except this time, no one offered soup. So I just took a seat at the bar and waited. And waited. And waited. I ended up having to wait 30 minutes more for my food, with no one providing any updates on the status of my order. Others were in the same boat. One customer got into a heated argument with the guy packing up the takeout orders and was demanding his money back. And then the guy packing up the takeout orders got into an argument with one of his co-workers, probably because she was quoting unrealistic food pickup estimates on the phone. Communication with customers was non-existent. Clearly, the restaurant is not being staffed appropriately. The two waiters handling the dining-in tables were also having to deal with the take-out orders. As a result, the service suffered dramatically and on one looked happy. I should also mention that the phone rang several times while I was there and was not picked up once. If the owner is trying to save money by hiring a skeleton crew, it's going to come back to haunt him. The only thing saving this from being a one-star review is that the food overall was still solid (though not amazing). If there was another Indian restaurant in the immediate vicinity, I'd be a flight risk. read more

Saturday night date with the fiancé - craving some Indian food. We were going to a store in Newton and figured we should try a new place. Singh's staff was friendly and the service was prompt. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was good - I wish there had been more chicken. My fiancé got the chicken vindaloo and she seemed to have enjoyed it. The naan was also good however it had a flavor that I couldn't put my finger on as though there was an added spice in the dough. The place itself was kind of cramped and at one point we didn't have enough table space for the food. It only took 2 or 3 steps inside for me to KNOW that I was in for a wonderful dining experience--if youve had good indian food then you can recognize that smell like none other. I mustve instantly started salivating as soon as the aroma hit me and couldnt wait to get started. I should mention that I'm somewhat of an Indian food snob and I wasnt sure what I could expect from Singhs but I left more satisfied than I could have hoped for. The naan is brought to the table piping hot and you can have as much as you want. We had about 3 baskets between the 2 of us. The buffet had rice, soup, bone in chicken (not tandoori when we went but delicious nonetheless), mango chicken, tomato basil chicken, a shrimp dish, chicken tikka masala, mixed veggies, dal, saag paneer and vegetable pakora. Quite the variety and all of it was AMAZING I kid you not. For people who are hesitant to eat Indian food because of the spiciness, I'd say this is really mild (especially for Indian food). I personally love spicy food and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest but this just wasn't. Also, since theres so much variety it's great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Youre reading this so youre interested..so please just GO! This gets 4 stars just because of the food. It loses one for the wait times for takeout. The wait time when dining in the cafe was fine, and the cafe itself is nice. Chicken Dhaniwal Korma is delicious, and you can get it "Indian Hot" if you really, really like hot and spicy or just hot if you're a hot food fan. I'm sure it's good medium or mild too, but that's not how I roll. I have had the Saag, Masala and Vindaloo too, all good. The cauliflower soup is top notch. Good naan, and the chutneys are good, but they skimp on the portion (cheap\stupid). Had a variety of Samosas too, all good. read more
