This is a nice cozy little place right off route 9 in Wellesley, MA. The various Indian aromas hits you as soon as you open the door and walk down into the cafe. There are some nice decor as you enter and the dining room is pretty open and spacious. Staff was friendly in greeting us and getting us seated. The 4 of us chose the weekend buffet. The waiter brought us a plate of naan to share...you can choose the flavor...we went with garlic. It was cooked perfectly and its nice to have it fresh and warm! The buffet offerings look small, but there is a good enough variety. From appetizers to main course and desserts, I didn't feel like it was not enough. The sizzling plate of chicken was good. It was fresh and not chewy or anything. The goat curry was good and the chicken tikka was ok. I really liked their american style onion rings...it was a hidden/surprising gem. One thing to note, Indian food is usually on the spicy side and I'll give this place a spicy level of 3 or 4 out of 10. Mind you, I can take quite a bit of heat. Might be a great place to break in younger people who are not yet able to eat full on spice from places like godavari in Woburn. Pricing is reasonable for the selection. I have eaten at many Indian restaurants, both in the U.S. and in India, but I have never had a better Indian meal than the buffet I enjoyed Sunday my first visit to Singh's Café. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared. Although many of the dishes are what one usually expects on a buffet, the assortment was extensive and there were some unique offerings as well. I stopped by for their Saturday buffet. I found parking across the street from the restaurant. All of the parking is located on the street. According to the sign the buffet should start at 11:30. I was there at 11:30 but they did not have the food out until closer to 12:00. The restaurant is always busy with lots of people with Indian heritage. If they like it, you know it has to be good. I've ordered from Singh's for years. It's my go to for Indian food. They have made a lot of good dishes, including of course Chicken Tikka Masala. However, it's very hit or miss. I never know if I'm going to get a great meal or a tasteless one. If I order something hot sometimes, there's no heat at all, sometimes, others in my party order something mild, and it comes indelibly hot. If you want to take a chance, try them. We ordered the kali-mirch ke tikke(pepper chicken appetizer), malai kofta and naans. They didnt ask and we forgot to tell, but we got the "mild" versions of the food, a bit of a spoiler. The food was good, a spicier version might have been better. A bit pricey though, compared to other indian restaurants. The service was great. Been here a few times over a span of a couple years and finally came to doing a review after a recent visit. We've always been able to get seating as soon as we walk in. Not too familiar with Indian food, so a lot of this review is my friend's opinion! This time, our party of 2 ordered: Vegetable Chaat: 3/5 we weren't too fond of this. It's served cold and lacked flavor. Nice array of chopped veggies though. Chicken Tikka Masala: 3/5 i always order this from here, and this time we found it too sweet for our liking. We always get medium spice and it's just right for us. Can't imagine how spicy the spicy level is haha. Garlic Naan: 5/5 generous portion, hot and fresh, great texture Gulab Jamun: 5/5 sooo delicious. Comes with 3. It's such a tasty dessert and must-try! The food itself is a 3/5 but I give an extra star for the excellent service. The staff here is always friendly and efficient. Also, they always bring out complimentary soup. Service: 2 stars, the vibe just wasn't welcoming and hospitable. Food: 3 stars, the chicken chili was the worst dish we ordered. The chicken was more breaded than meat. The curry for our other dish was delicious. Next time we will not be ordering chicken that has been breaded and fried. That is not their specialty. Location: this restaurant is the basement of an apartment building. It could be more cleaned and de-cluttered but the food is the main thing here. The food was cold and the staff was unfriendly. My wife is Nepali and we both agree that there are many other places that have much better food for cheap and I'd definitely recommend those. The owner didn't seem to care when I addressed those concerns in-person. Will not be coming back and recommend you check out other places instead as well. read more

My sister heard about Singh's from a nutritionist who had recommended other excellent spots, so I was optimistic when heading to Wellesley, and it turned out to be just as good as I hoped it would be. Although I'm a fan of protein in all its forms, we opted for a Vegetarian Meal for Two, and it turned out to be a feast. We started with soup (I loved the mushroom version, and my dining companion was thrilled with the cauliflower). Samosas followed, and then there was a choice of 2 entrees accompanied by naan and rice, a single dessert to split, plus coffee or tea. It was a relaxed, filling, satisfying experience from start to finish. I was particularly impressed by the Kulfi - ice cream with cardamom, saffron, and nuts, although everything was impressive. FYI - their web site shows that they are rolling out a change in their hours of operation, effective August 1, 2017 - they're apparently no longer open for lunch. I'd suggest checking their site for updates, even it you're a regular. read more

I had driven by this place a couple of times and was curious. My aunt and I love to try new Indian food spots so we decided to give it a go. Initially parking was a bit tough because there were meters but also signs saying we couldn't park there. I decided to risk it and park anyways, which worked out fine in the end I didn't get a ticket. The restaurant itself is extremely comfortable and cozy, while tables are still socially distanced. The food was absolutely divine. We had the veggie samosa starter and then I had the butter chicken and my aunt had the chicken curry. We also ordered a naan bread. The flavors in the curry were perfect and the naan was huge and soft and melts in your mouth. Another top option for Indian food in the area. read more

Buffet was terrific -- plenty of great options to choose from and not too spicy if that is something you may be concerned about. Of everything I tried, the chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, lamb curry, vegetable samosas, and the okra dish were the most memorable, but there were a few "misses" -- the spinach soup actually had too much black pepper in it, the gulab jamun would have been better served warm, and the basmati rice was lacking seasoning. We went here for a sit-down dinner. I've never been in and was pleasantly surprised - it's a lot nicer than it looks outside/when you first walk in. It was fairly empty (only 2 other diners the entire time we were there, but it was early), so the waitstaff was pretty attentive. I asked for a small sample of a dish for my son and was told they couldn't do it (completely understandable, as the food is made fresh to order), but then they did it!! I thought that was a really nice touch. We didn't get any papadams or anything. A friend had said they do "free" stuff, but we didn't get anything free... That was a bit disappointing, but it's not like free items should be expected! And the price is great - REALLY good prices, especially considering it's in Wellesley. All-in-all we really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back. read more

The food here is good. The naans and pooris excellent. The chicken and lamb tender and juicy, including the tandoori chicken, which tends to be dry in most local Indian restaurants. But Singh's still has trouble getting their act together on service. From a desultory greeting when you arrive, to pleasant, but woefully untrained young women servers wearing unsightly plastic surgical gloves, to do- it- yourself dumping of leftovers into plastic containers. The service just isn't there. And the prices for entrees are way up. If they ever figure out the service aspects of running a business, they will get 5 stars. read more

The curry was super delicious, went great with our garlic naan. The garlic naan honestly wasn't that garlicky and it was a bit too charred for my taste. The samosas were delicious but I managed to find an entire stick of cinnamon in mine. The Aloo Gobi is great for a bit of a kick and the potatoes in it were so wonderful. read more

I tend to get leery of Indian food in the 'burbs. I don't know why exactly, I just feel the amount of establishments in Cambridge that are all right next to each other are some of the best in the city and the best cooks all tend to flock there. Well, you don't need to worry about that with Singh's since this is about as good as it gets, even if it is tucked into a basement in "downtown" Wellesley. The lunch rush makes it a bit crowded at times and even though I've dined alone on many occasions, there was still a wait. I love the high, leather chairs at most of the tables and I believe some of the benches have cushions to rest your back on. Once seated, put in your naan and drink order and immediately proceed to the buffet line. If you are a mushroom fan and they have it that day, GET THE DAMN MUSHROOM SOUP ZOMG!!@ Do they make mushroom stock somewhere that I'm not aware of? I'ver never had soup that had such a depth of flavor for being so simple. It's completely pureed so it's a silky concoction but like I said, it'll change your life. Although it is far from authentic Indian, I am also in love with their BBQ chicken. Pieces of thigh (I think) cooked to perfection and covered in a sweet, slightly spicy sauce. Yes, it's for white people but dang, it is gggoooooddd. Then there is the standard tikka masala, saag paneer and chana masala that is out almost every day and something you should at least try while here. I have had some off putting saag (spinach) previously but this is about as good as it gets. Creamy, rich and well balanced. The fresh fruit at the end of the bar is a nice touch and a healthy dessert option. They also sometimes have Indian kheer, a rice pudding. Plentiful raita for slathering on all of your goodies (not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter) which will also help kill off most of the heat, there is little to contend with here anyway. Service is attentive, filling your drinks often and taking away dirty plates without letting them sit there too long. The only beef I've ever had is waiting around too long for the check when I have to rush back to the office. Other than that, there isn't anything else to critique here and if you find yourself in the area for lunch, it comes highly recommended. read more

I wondered if that was simply a price difference or a difference in menu as well, so I gave them a call and found out that they offer dosas on weekends, some kind of juice, certain appetizers, a warm dessert option. Okay, that's cool... We headed over here for lunch one Saturday because someone I knew had touted Singh's lunch buffet with much enthusiasm. Metered street parking was found without any trouble. (Nickel for 5 minutes, Dime for 10 minutes, Quarter for 30 minutes, 2 hour max time limit) The restaurant was located down a few steps in the basement of the brick building. The tables were neatly decorated with handfuls of dried beans and herbs and such sealed beneath the glass. The buffet starts by the reception area with the piles of empty plates and glasses for us to fill. The hot chai tea which I sweetened with a half spoon of the sugar was okay, but was outshone by the chilled mango juice which was absolutely terrific. The first appetizer was a small crisp poof of a shell which I had to ask how to handle, to which I was responded that I needed to crack it, fill the hole with some kind of cubed potato mixture, and then pour in this watery sauce - interesting... Among the hot selections were vegetarian options, chicken, pork, shrimp. The cold table held the chutneys, some salady options, cubed fruits, and a chilled rice pudding. The other sweet was warm - sweet halvah? I liked both desserts... not that I had either of them at the beginning of my meal... A basket of warm naan was served to us at the table. We were also offered portions of freshly made dosas that we really enjoyed. The meats were tender and nothing was too spicy for this spice wimp. I guess they toned everything down for the American palate. The only negative would be the fatty nature of the pork - it was as if they had used the same meat that is used to make bacon. Too bad I only had room for one time through the buffet for savory and a second quick trip for sweet. The servers were gentle, helpful and polite. The bathrooms down a small hallway were marked H and M. Hmmm... what does H stand for? Human? Just kidding. Well, the one marked M was also separately (thankfully) marked "Men" so ladies, use the one marked with an H. It was a large single person bathroom. *** 10/2012 Saturday visit *** Another visit for the Saturday lunch buffet $11.95. Seems they no longer serve a basket of naan at the table. Rather, you can pick up some naan at the buffet bar. The fresh dosa served at the table were once again terrific, as was the mango nectar - talk about yum! At least the first two glasses... it got rather normalized, or less special by the third. This time I noticed a bathroom marked Women, or something obvious like that, so I didn't have to guess.
