Vegetable Hakka Noodles and Vegetable Samosas
    Ian W.

Formerly Hema's Kitchen, Spice Kitchen is an Indian food takeout counter located in the back corner of Madras Market in Ashland. Similar to before, Spice Kitchen is online order and pay only. I stopped in here for takeout recently and did an online order via ToastTab. I ordered Vegetable Samosas (2 for $6.99 plus tax) and Vegetable Hakka Noodles ($12.99 plus tax). My food was all set for pickup in about 20 minutes after ordering. The Vegetable Samosas were not very big, but had a very flaky pastry shell filled with a spicy peas & soft potato filling, dipping sauces provided. The Hakka Noodles were cooked very soft (boiled) tossed with vegetables, soy and chilli sauces and spicy seasonings. I enjoyed my hot food back in my ride as it was pouring rain outside. Overall, it was pretty good!

Breathtaking Artwork at the foyer/entrance of the restaurant!

What an amazing Indian restaurant showcasing a plethora of options ranging from North Indian go-to appetizers and entrees, South Indian staples, to chaat and Indo-Chinese. The proximity to the Ashtalakshmi temple is a major plus for the establishment! We ordered the idli vada combo, a few dosas, the paneer samosa ( a very unique offering available alongside its traditional potato varietal), and a sev puri. The Idlis are fluffy and light as a cloud, acting as the ideal sponges to sop up the cool coconut and the tangy tomato chutneys. The Dosas are crunchy with hardly a hint of the sesame oil used to crisp the outer layer whilst leaving the inner layer on the softer side, allowing the diner to appreciate the contrast in texture. The new ownership takes the quality of food and service seriously. Most, if not all items, including condiments, are made in-house! Their made-from-scratch rasmalai and masala chai were the fitting 'cherries-on-top', capping off what was one of the most scrumptious and satisfying meals we have enjoyed in a while! The continued success of this eatery ensures a happy new year indeed for current and future patrons of this veritable culinary landmark!! P.S. be sure to check out the breathtaking artwork that greets you at the entrance!

The former restaurant served up Indian vegetarian cuisine and the updated concept now also serves meat dishes. Woodlands is still open in Westborough. After hearing about the change, I decided to head over to Dilli Darbar in Framingham for the Sunday Lunch Buffet, which is $26.99 plus tax. I could sit at any table and sat near the buffet. The Darbari Buffet offered several dishes, appetizers, soup, and desserts including Chicken Biryani, Chicken Vindaloo, Egg Curry, Lamb Rogan Josh, Shrimp Guntar Curry, Paneer Kai Mirch, Aloo Baingan, Chana Masala, Honey Chilly Potato, Cocktail Samosa, Rice, Vegetable Pulao, Naan, Shami Kabab, Chicken Pakoda, Sabz Meloni, Pappad, Chutenys, Raita, Salad, Chicken Soup, Rice Kheer, Sawaiyan, and soda included. Since I got here well after the peak lunch period, the place wasn't busy. The food on the buffet however was not very hot. Some of the food items were very salty in taste. The soda with ice was flat. The rice kheer was pretty good for dessert. After I had enough to eat, I got the check with Toast QR code, which was $28.88 with tax and before tip. Overall, the service here attentive and laid back. I also informed staff about the taste of the food. The spice levels were just right, but they could go easier on the sodium content. All of the other Indian restaurants I've been to in the region, use much less salt. I needed two drinks to wash down the aftertaste. (2.7/5.0)
