Simply Nova is a reminder of all things wonderful in a Jewish Deli. That being a bold statement, I want to say that as a transplant. But I take my boyfriend here and he's a native New Yorker. He really fell in love with the egg and pastrami bagel. So he his vote really counts. We like doing anniversary bagels monthly, a tradition my bf started without my knowledge and one we have come to really enjoy. This place was a treat when we celebrated. A little tight to sit so we did take it home. The other morning he had to repark his car and since we were in the car, we said let's do bagels. I love the variety of lox. I was the first person in. And I was in luck. People must set alarms in the neighborhood. A lot of men lined up after me. I love getting the salmon roe. It's a pricey $6 but also generous. When I want to splurge I want to feel it's worth it. And here I do. I also got us a small batch of the mini, black and white cookies. Talk about perfection. I now truly understand how it's NY's cookie. It has the high quality dark chocolate and the perfectly sweet cookie and the white icing on the other half. It's a perfect dessert. We have had the babka here too. I wish there was a veg matzo ball soup. Also if you are here early the egg salad and the tuna salad are so well designed that they are reminiscent of gelato. I want all the things. I even got their adorable mini tote in a greenish, brown tone. It makes me feel like I stepped into the Hampton's version of a Jewish Deli. And you can hate on me for that but I will be too busy stuffing my face to notice. Can't wait to try out more dishes. And I already told allllll my friends about it so these lines aren't getting any shorter.

The online image order shows that there's onions and other things besides cream cheese and salmon. It didn't come with these things, if I had known I would have ordered from elsewhere Note: paid extra for tomato

Absolutely Thee Best Lox & Schmear on a Bagel, bar none!!!! Lox was fresh, lightly smoked & buttery. The sesame bagel was perfectly chewy & authentic. Great and unique additional options and I can't wait to go back and try. What a perfect experience!!!!

Updating my review since I wrote it a wee bit tipsy and didn't provide any real context that's beneficial to improving the customer experience moving forward. Admittedly, I can do better - Okay - so, the nova deluxe sandwich was incredible but prob best to eat there as it transports a bit messy. The bagel itself was underwhelming; small and hard. The matzoh ball soup was quite sad and had no vegetables of any sort listed on the label. It was also cold and hard as a rock. My biggest gripe was with the $17 latkes. These were hard as a rock, dried out and old. I read the prior reviews of mold being on them and shouldn't have turned a blind eye. Remove both the soup and latkas from the menu and it's golden!

This is a gem of the neighborhood. A wonderful homage to the Jewish delis of the past with eyes set on the future. Everything is fresh! Bagels, cream cheeses, meats, fish (I assume - I don't eat fish but still!). Plus, I only buy my full sour pickles from Simply Nova. There is always a container in my fridge. The staff is legit the kindest humans. This spot is cute and full of amazing treats!

I've been here several times and this place has become my favorite smoked salmon spot! Their customer service is excellent. They let me taste each piece of fish and educate me about the fish. I could tell that they love their job and they care about what they do. Their interior was clean and organized. They even sell chocolate, pickles, cheeses, meats, dried fruits, crackers, and I saw a variety of sea salt flakes! The price is actually better than Russ & Daughters. I hope they stay open forever and keep the same price because I would love to keep shopping here!

You get to customize everything from bagel type, cream cheese flavor, toppings, and even the type of lox. I went with a classic combo: an everything bagel loaded with scallion cream cheese, tomato, onion, capers, and Nova Scotia lox. The lox itself was noticeably saltier than what I've had at other bagel shops and it's a bit too overpowering for me. Had to wash down the saltiness with plenty of water. The bagel is also pretty unique. They make them with a much thicker center hole, which gives it a different texture and look compared to the usual nyc bagels. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, and the shop carries a lot of gourmet food items and baked goodies so it's fun to browse while you wait.

Mold on Latkes

Do not recommend :( I really try to support small businesses in the neighborhood and I hate having to leave negative reviews but unfortunately when we received our order there was mold all over the food. When we called to try and find out an explanation (I.e how long was this sitting there to be able to grow mold like this?) there was unfortunately no explanation and the business didn't seem to care. Generally didn't care for the bagel either. They're small, rock hard (as in stale and not like a chewy textured NY bagel type of way) and had little to no cream cheese.

Went here with my brother the other day and the lox bagels we got were fantastic. Lots of different lox to choose from. Very clean and nice spot that also has sandwiches, coffee, lots of sauerkraut and pickles. Definitely check this spot out. FYI it cost $36 for two lox bagels with the works, which I think might've been more than it should've been looking at the menu prices, so check your receipt. Also we asked for one bagel and he made us 2 anyway. Tasty nonetheless.

one sunday each month, my bf and i get bagels, scratch-offs and pedicures. we're trying a new bagel place every month (but may automatically resort back to "best bagels & coffee" in midtown bc it is legit has the best bagels) and we selected simply nova for march. i'd say this place is definitely more of a well-curated fish shop with some dairy groceries than a bagel spot (also i was really surprised at the lack of highly rated bagel spots in williamsburg). i think the most important takeaway from this review is that i paid $17 for a tiny salmon bagel and my wallet hurts. i was shook when i unwrapped my bagel bc it was so small. i don't think i've ever had a bagel that size in nyc! other than its size, the bagel was fine and good but without the smoked salmon, which was the star of the show, it didn't feel like something i couldn't get somewhere else. it would be epic if simply nova used best bagels' bagels with their fish - that would rock my world. the shop sells other things in a small refrigerator, like artisanal cheeses, as well as babka, rugalach and other sweets. if i'm in the area and in need of some great smoke salmon, i'd def order it here but other than that, i don't see myself coming back here.

Very rude people and the bagels they gave me were also rock hard. I will avoid this place like the plague in the future.

They have sushi, some anime toys, a bunch of other Japanese food, and random goods that I know my youngest niece would be obsessed with. When I went to check in, I noticed that I couldn't find it... At some point they changed their name. They're called Harumi now, but I'm not sure how recent that is. It appears they've always been a Japanese market, though. I don't recall the last time I went to a Japanese market outside of Montgomery County, MD... And these prices seem so much better honestly. It makes me wish I had markets like this closer to home. The sushi and sesame mochi I got were fantastic. And my niece loved the chopsticks I got her.

I've been visiting this market since they first opened. Back then, it was modest, but over the past few months it's grown into what I'd now consider a must-visit spot. The market has clearly gained traction, and for good reason. One of the coolest details is behind the counter--there are some amazing anime figure displays, which I believe are also for sale (and yes, I want one myself ). The onigiri and sushi that everyone comes in for are made fresh daily, which really sets this place apart. Overall, it's an average-sized market with a solid selection of snacks, a good amount of groceries you'd typically find in any Japanese-style market, and a small but nice selection of Taiwanese and Japanese beers. What I appreciate most is that the market doesn't over-advertise like some others do. The layout makes it easy to focus on what you need and want without feeling overwhelmed by marketing. I stopped by again yesterday--mainly for the onigiri, which I regularly travel from LIC for. Yes, there are other markets that sell onigiri, but many are cold and not made fresh daily. That distinction matters. With all that said, I'm giving this review 4.8 stars, only because I'd love to see a wider selection of Korean beers. Add that, and it's an easy 5 stars--though honestly, it already feels like one.

I had been wanting to try this place just bc it's right there whenever I get off the Bedford Ave stop and it looked like a cute local spot. The pasta there is probably one of the worst I've ever had. The fettuccini noodles were fine, but the sauce was just boiled milk. No butter, no salt. I ordered it with grilled shrimp, and the total order was $19. With the serving bowl already being tiny, it was only half filled and the 6 shrimp I had were so small and didn't seem that fresh. I was going to quietly leave and just never come back again, but then the manager there asks how it was and I just honestly said that I thought it was really bland and unseasoned. I said there was no salt whatsoever. He replies back saying that's why they have a salt and pepper shaker, and I understand adjusting the garnishes to your own taste. However, you can't just not add salt to food you're serving so I found his defensiveness really absurd like every restaurant fast casual or not adds some amount of balance. And the Alfredo sauce was literally diluted milk. He eventually apologizes to me for the poor taste, but then asks if I'm going to put a bad review. I found that really unprofessional and he probably was asking because they don't get much customers. I said no and quickly left. I really wanted to support a small business, but that whole interaction just left a bad taste adding to the already shit pasta. Service is quick and friendly and pasta is served in cardboard containers along with disposable utensils. The portions are fine but the prices are high for what you get. Not surprising since Peonia is located right on Bedford. The Fettuccine Alfredo with mushrooms that my friend and I shared came out to around 16 dollars which is cheaper than what most Italian establishments will charge you. What they lack in formal restaurant service, they make up for with creamy and tasty pasta. The fettuccine was al dente and the alfredo sauce is pretty good. Think a step up from Rao's frozen pastas but less satisfying than restaurant style pasta. I'm not saying I'll run over for more pasta anytime soon, but at least Peonia will fulfill a spontaneous pasta craving. A good on-the-go option.
