Literally orderd this place on a recent random weekday night because I was really craving to finally try some brown sugar boba after watching too many YouTube videos about boba. This review is solely based on the 3 drinks me & the gf ordered since we had it delivered. House Coffee (Vietnamese style coffee) actually had pretty good strength more than I thought it would. I'd still want it more strong (like I usually do). This is described as Vietnamese "style" coffee & I suppose that holds true since it didn't taste like dark roast coffee really. Matcha Milk Tea (50% sweet, w/ almond milk) had a nice pretty strong matcha flavor which contrasted with the light subtle sweetness which is what we ordered. Well executed overall & looked nice which is always a win. The Tiger Milk Tea is the first I ever had of this brown sugar boba style. I know there was the transit time it took for the drink to be delivered but the kid in me was a little letdown the sides of the cup weren't covered in brown sugar syrup as I've commonly seem this drink is. The boba was pretty much perfect for me. It definitely was not hard, not mushy & still had enough chew. It was very sweet (as expected) but luckily had good flavor which made me enjoy the drink even more than I thought I would. I could really taste that brown sugar, little toasty sweetness in my first sip. For some reason only 1 of the 3 drinks was in a Simplee Boba branded cup with the cute bee logo & they gave 3 bobs straws when only one drink had boba. Not the biggest deal here but it is these little details that set places above others. Oh & oddly enough one win here is something I don't usually see at other drink places. They gave very little ice in all 3 drinks resulting in very full cups of actual drink & not just ice. I literally ended up adding some ice in at home. The store is big enough to hang out in a large group. I also like that they close at midnight. So it's a perfect place to go when most boba places close around 10 pm. The place is clean with plenty of seats. SB serves not only boba. They offer tea, coffee, and fosselman's ice cream. You can also mix it up and serve the drinks with fresh ice cream. My recommendation on 2 items you gotta check out are Simplee Affogato and Bubble Waffles. The Bubble Waffles are freshly made egg waffles by the order with choices of original, matcha, chocolate ship, and mocha and served with your choice of ice cream and toppings such as Oreo bits, mocha, picky, boba, lychee jelly, aloe, whipped cream, captain crunch, fruity pebbles, strawberries and M&Ms. The portion is good to share between 2-3 ppl and the price point is reasonable at $7.25. The Simplee Affogato is very unique. It's fosselman's ice cream served with either tea or coffee and topped with toppings such as mocha, almond, boba, grass jelly, Oreo crumbs, etc. You can select they specialty drinks so build your own. You gotta try Thai-ger. It's Thai tea with vanilla ice cream topped with boba and oreo crumbs. I was running errands in South Pasadena when I came across Simplee Boba on Yelp. There's a ton of street parking and also a private garage, so it was very convenient. I ordered the Passion Fever, which is a green tea with passionfruit syrup, boba, and lychee jelly and a mochi bubble waffle. Passion Fever was light and sweetened with agave, a healthier alternative to sugar. Everything came together perfectly and tasted great. The boba was free because I checked in on Yelp. Mochi bubble waffle took a while, because the server accidentally burnt it. I got a 20% of coupon while I waited. The waffle was freshly made, filled with mochi and had great texture. I wanted TigerSugar Milk with no boba but in the comment section I said, "Please make with frosty milk, and no boba". Which is the brown sugar syrup with milk, but instead of the milk being in liquid form, I wanted it to be frosty milk (like a slushy). I received my order and it was excellent. Absolutely love this place! It's perfect for studying and hanging with friends. PARKING: Lots of free 2 hour street parking all around. I have never had trouble finding parking. DRINKS: Their drinks are great! I usually get the matcha milk tea or tropical bee tea with quarter sugar. They can also substitute the creamer with organic almond milk. FOOD: I've gotten their "build your own bubble waffle" (Hong Kong egg waffle), and it was pretty good. Because I prefer crispy waffles, I'm not the biggest fan of adding ice cream on top, as the waffle loses its crunch. I'd personally stick with waffle a la carte. SERVICE/SPACE: I typically see two workers there, and it's an order-and-seat-yourself type of thing. The workers are nice. I also like how the seats are in a separate room from where you order. With bright interior colors, fast wifi, abundance of outlets, spacious and minimalistic room, and huge clock, this is an ideal place to study at. So glad this place exists! Apparently Simplee Boba is the first boba shop to open in South Pasadena, although another one is well on its way to opening in several weeks in the near vicinity. Since boba is definitely a weakness of mine, I asked several of my friends to make the trek out to South Pasadena with me to give this place a try. Simplee Boba is located on Mission Street, right by the Metro. There's plenty of street parking, so that shouldn't be an issue. We happened to get there on a Thursday night when the Farmer's Market was going on, so the streets were blocked off, allowing for pretty easy access to the boba shop. We were all drawn in by the glass bottles, but unfortunately they were no longer giving them out when my friends and I visited. But seeing as we were already there, we all decided to order a drink. The menu selection isn't the most extensive. They have iced teas, specialty drinks, and coffee. They also serve ice cream with the Hong Kong waffles if you're craving something sweet. More than half of the storefront is dedicated to the seating area while the other 1/3 of the shop is the kitchen area/cashier, etc. There's a good amount of tables, perfect if you want to study or catch up with friends. Workers were pretty friendly for the most part. As for the drinks: -Sea salt green tea latte: I thought this was okay. Flavor was pretty on-point, and the drink had a good amount of sweetness to it despite not getting altered. I've had better sea salt lattes though, so I don't think I'd order this again. -Matcha macchiato: Not the biggest fan of matcha, but I liked the taste enough. My friends all thought the flavor was pretty good - there was more milk taste than matcha flavor, but I can see this being a good drink to order if you're craving something sweet. -Tropical Bee tea: Simplee Boba uses agave nectar - natural sweetness, so you don't have to feel too guilty about downing a cup of boba. We watched as they made the large tropical bee tea, and I saw the number of pumps of nectar they added to the drink. But surprisingly, we couldn't really taste the sweetness of all that nectar once the drink was concocted. The green tea with chopped up strawberries and peach bits gave the drink a tartness that all of us really enjoyed. I would definitely recommend ordering this if you want something light and refreshing. This was very reminiscent of Tastea's line of fruit drinks. I ordered this with boba (additional $0.50), and while it wasn't sweetened with sugar or caramel, it was well made: chewy and cooked decently. Drinks are on the pricey side, but I guess you are paying for more quality (and the fact that they are located in South Pasadena). My drink was almost $5 for a medium sized Tropical Bee tea with boba while my friends' large sized drinks were around $5, too. tl;dr - Overall, a pretty decent boba shop in South Pasadena. I would recommend ordering the Tropical Bee tea if you're unsure of what to order. While I liked the drinks enough, with all the boba shops in the SGV, I don't think Simplee Boba is a place I'd make a special trip out to unless I was in the area. read more

Newly opened (3 days ago), Simplee Boba is located in downtown South Pasadena, located diagonally across from the Metro station and right next door to Retreat. After seeing Carmen S's photos from this place and reading from her review that free glass bottles are available with purchase during their soft opening, my husband and I decided to stop by (but there are no outdoor seating, which is rare for us to stop by a tea house that is not dog friendly since we bring our little girl dog with us everywhere). We came in last night around 7:15 pm and the place was pretty empty. After browsing the menu, we ended up getting: Signature Milk Tea (Hot) $4.70 prior to tax- After reading another Yelp member's review on suggesting not to change the sweetness level on the drink since drinks here are sweetened with agave syrup, my husband and I ordered our drinks as is. My husband thought his drink was average but I actually liked his drink and thought it tasted good. I was surprised that there was no after taste, most likely because agave syrup was used instead of whatever usual sweetener other tea houses use. Large Tropical Bee Tea (Hot), $5.15 prior to tax- This drink is typically made iced with green tea, peach syrup, agave syrup and fruit pieces (strawberry and peach). I asked if it was possible to have this drink made hot and an employee (whom I suspect is either the manager or owner) told me he could. I also opted to have this drink made with black tea instead because I dislike green tea. After our drinks were given to us, shortly later, the owner/ manager stopped by to ask me if my drink was okay because he said he has not had the chance to make that drink hot yet. I thought it was pretty good and perfect the way it was. Just like my husband's drink, I liked that there was no after taste. I thought the fruit bits were okay but my husband didn't like it and thought it tasted horribly sour. -------------------------- (Total= $10.79 after tax) This place does not have public bathrooms. But the owner/ manager had offered me to use the employee restroom, which I gladly appreciated. I hope this place will reconsider having a public restroom in the future because caffeinated products (like tea) are considered to be a diuretic, which basically causes people to pee. It would be nice to have a clean public restroom for patrons to use. The free WiFi (unprotected at the time of our visit) was fast and easy to get onto. Before we left, I went over to the counter to request for our free glass bottles because we were not given them after we paid for our drinks and delivered to us. The manager/ owner apologized and said that sometimes they can forget that (no worries, but hopefully you will remember before you leave so that you don't have to come back or miss out on this special). We got a limited edition winter glass bottle (there are other non winter bottles available) and I can't wait to use it in the future. Overall, I did like my drink but I think the prices are a little pricey. With so many tea houses in the San Gabriel Valley, prices here are a little bit higher (by at least $1). I am assuming the higher price is because of the area (South Pasadena) and the use of organic ingredients. But to be honest, South Pasadena is not an area that we frequent and also since this place doesn't have dog friendly seating, we most likely will not be rushing back to come here. Decided to give them a try because they're one of the few boba places in South Pas. The place is cozy and has a seating area next door. There's only street parking, which is sometimes limited in this area. We walked a couple minutes and parked in the 3 hour parking spots just a street over from the boba spot. I love that you can order a split cup and try 2 different flavors. There's a select list of flavors for the split cup but still a cool concept. I got the duet and oolong milk tea split cup. My stepsons got the watermelon slushies and Thai tea/taro milk tea split cup. I was happy with mine but my stepson said the Thai tea and taro had too much milk which diluted the flavor. As far as the food and drink is concerned, this place is great. The bubble waffle is so soft and delicious, I have had the original and the chocolate chip one, both so good. Their ice cream is also really good. I have had both their milk tea and frappe. I usually get custard pudding in both, milk tea is usually lite ice and they absolutely listen. I am taking a star off because the service here is awful. Honestly, if this review was based on service alone they would be getting 1-star. Granted, the very first time I came here, the service was great. I ordered through doordash and asked for two different ice cream scoops with my waffle. When I got there the guy told me that usually it's an extra charge but they were letting it go, which was nice. Each time after that has been terrible. I spent almost ten minutes waiting for him to acknowledge me, when he finally did he just looked at me without saying anything. I told him I was picking up and order and gave him my name... he grabbed it, did not check to see if everything was in there, so I went ahead and did it before I left. Lo' and behold! My ice cream was missing, so I stand there waiting for him to come back to the register and he walks away. So this other girl with dead eyes glanced at me and I had to tell her I required assistance. I showed her the receipt and the bag and she walked away without saying a word and put the ice cream on the counter and walked away. Apparently, this place hires a bunch of winners. I will honestly continue coming here, because I know it is good. I have been to other bubble tea places and this has been my favorite so far. Although many cities of the San Gabriel Valley are premiere boba destinations, most of the Pasadena area still has some work to do. At least with the exception of Simplee Boba, which is hands down one of my favorite tea spots. I'm a big fan of their strawberry mango black tea, which I always get with rainbow jelly. The drink has the perfect balance between sweet, fruity and tart without tasting overwhelmingly artificial or overly syrupy. In fact, you can taste both the tea and the fresh flavors of the fruits which means they're definitely doing something right. Plus, you can't go wrong with the floating bits of real strawberries with the tea. The thai tea is also delicious. It's not overly sweet and you can still taste the richness of the black tea between its fragrant spices and creaminess. Definitely a nice choice if you're craving a milk tea! Besides tea, Simplee Boba also features ice cream and bubble waffles. I haven't tried them yet but I do like to occasionally grab a madeleine cookie from there to enjoy with my tea. read more
