This place is underrated - it's gotta be the best boba I've had all over Los Angeles!! By that I mean including all the big chains, all the hipster brands, to all the knock offs from Asia that I have tried (the *lley, *lfred, Sh*redtea, Bob* Guys, Coc*, the cute place on W 3rd Street, Yif*ang, all the boba places in Sawtelle, places with long lines in SGV etc.), this place still comes up on top! Some boba places have good tea, some have lots of fancy milk options, some have good tapioca, but Simplee Boba is just SIMPLY the best boba, no BS. I don't know what they put in there but I think it's the tea base? And the boba is always done just right which is surprising hard to do. Milk could be better honestly but overall it's the best of all place I've personally tried in Los Angeles. Did I mention the pudding add-on is delicious? Background of my story: 1. I used to work at a boba shop, 2. I usually order classic black milk tea with tapioca in most places to compare as a baseline because that's where the level is set at. If you can't get the most basic ingredients right it's hard for you to make other items on the menu great. I saw this place on Yelp and wanted to try their bubble waffle. I went in and ordered the original with vanilla ice cream. The guy who took my order was unfriendly, but I was still excited about my waffle. When I got the waffle about 10 minutes later, I was disappointed. It was mushy and soft. I have Tea Station and Ten Ren Tea Time literally just down the street from me, but I'm willing to drive all the way to Simplee coz their boba is the largest gummy-like boba that I've had in years. Plus they have decaf black milk tea and no other boba place has that, so I can still have a boba tea in the evening while working on my laptop at their shop. I love how it's quiet there and they have large tables good for work or study and fast free WiFi. The boba baristas are very knowledgeable and very nice, even when it was my mistake ordering they happily remade my drink with my customizations. We were able to use the adjacent rooms during an early morning from 11am - 1pm to host a bridal shower. Edmond was very easy to work with and was quick to respond to the emails. Boba Milk Tea: There boba was so good! I would personally pick 25% sweet and less ice for more of that rich tea taste. I ordered a boba milk tea and the drink itself was very good, a nice tea flavor and the boba was chewy. My only complaint is that I ordered off of grub hub and the employees had completed my order but didn't mark it complete. When I arrived at the store expecting it to be packed due to the 20-30 min pickup time estimate, there was only one other customer and three employees. I ended up waiting for another five minutes before asking about my order. The employees seemed confused before eventually realizing that they had completed it. It would have been faster for me to order when I arrived, as two customers received their drinks before me, even though they arrived later. Solid boba. Our go-to local spot. The boba is tasty and good consistency. I usually have to get the decaf house milk tea because I've got little kids who always want some. This is one of the only places I can find that even offers decaf milk tea so that's already a huge mama win. read more

First time at Simplee boba. The cashier was extremely helpful and friendly, providing me with suggestions! I tried the mango green tea with boba, 50% sweet. The mango is a little sweet and tart, I personally like my drinks less sweet so 50% was enough, but I would recommend getting 75% if you want a little more. Their boba is soft and chewy, softer than other boba spots so I enjoy it. Overall it's a nice boba spot in south Pasadena. Its definitely not Taiwanese bubble tea, you can taste the tea flavor, a little bitterness in the after taste. It's very cold inside, they blast the AC so bring a jacket! They sell some snacks like chips and cup noodles inside which I think is pretty neat, not sure If they are overpriced though. Yelp check in for free upgrade to large. I came across simply boba on Groupon! They had a deal that if you claim the rewards and you use your card on your account that you will get 20% cash back from your first purchase. Loving boba as much as I do, said sure! Why not? I get to try somewhere new AND get back money? It's a win-win. There is street parking, but if you aren't so lucky OR don't want to try to drive looking for some, there is a parking garage. This is the first boba spot that I've been too that isn't too friendly and try to help you with recommendations, if you ask them about it, you'll get an awkward response back as if they don't want to reply and they are now judging you. -Got the creamy thai tea. -Their thai tea is better than some other spots (which it's like how can you mess that up to begin with?) Their boba was super fresh and I think that would be the only reason I ever come back. Their waffles are decent. The ice cream they choose, not much flavor to it, Imagine the waffles you were looking at but if it could be the taste was watered down. If that makes sense. Has anyone else noticed that Pasadena has been having boba shops pop up all over the place lately? I'm definitely not complaining though. Since this place is right next to the railroad tracks, it's pretty impossible to miss. A ditz like me definitely needs some sort of landmark to help me. Street parking was awesome when I went. There are a few in the front, but there's more parking in the back. The set up is in two different rooms; on the left side is where you order your drinks, and on the right side is where you find seats. I wouldn't say there's an abundance of seating, but there's definitely space for people to study. The decorations are extremely minimalist, which I loooovvveee! The walls are completely white; one aspect I loved was the plants hanging on the wall. It was such a delicate touch. Strawberry smoothie with aloe: yum! It was delicious! The smoothie was extremely refreshing on a 91° hot day. I'm not saying I hate Jamba, but I can taste the freshness of the fruits in the smoothies here! The touch of aloe just made it more enjoyable with the added texture. Coffee milk tea with boba: yum!! I usually don't enjoy coffee milk tea since it's usually just overly sweet coffee powder, but this place makes this damn well! I only had a sip, but it was so so so memorable! Sweetness level was perfect with no adjustments. Boba was cooked well! Perfectly chewy and not cringingly sweet! This place is great! I love how natural everything seems to be here. Updating to mention the lack of precaution during Corona virus times. I really wanted to support local businesses during this quarantine time, and simplee has remained open which is really nice. Im changing my review to 4 stars because I have enjoyed my drinks the past 3 times ive gotten them. However each time I went, (3 times, all during Corona outbreak since Im home from college), the workers did NOT wear masks or gloves. I understand these supplies may be extremely hard to get, but continuing to serve customers with 0 protection is Why i will not go back during quarantine time. At least the door was open which meant I did not have to touch anything. I really do not want to say anything bad about this business because their drinks are good and the workers are nice, friendly, and attentive. My only concern was that they did not practice any precaution during this corona outbreak. The only worker wearing gloves was the one making the waffles, and those were cloth ones that protect form the waffle iron... I just get SO many emails form businesses saying how they are making adjustments to to be extra clean and take precaution. SO its a little unsettling that they aren't doing anything. And again, I understand that its hard to get these supplies, but continuing to serve people without any protection is unsettling. Also most of these workers are in High School, not sure they are the most clean. However, I love my drink so much. I love simple cause they are one of the only boba shops that offer decaf tea. I wanted to like this place and support a local boba shop, but I was very unimpressed with their beverages and their service. Maybe the server was having a bad day, but one server completely ignored me when I arrived to pick up my order while the other didn't greet me until I said I was there to pick up an order. She abruptly asked which service I had ordered through so I told her that it was through the website, which she then proceeded to ask which specific platform. They should be aware of what platform is on their website and not expect customers to know. In the end, I just have her the name for my order and she had my drinks. I didn't understand why she couldn't just ask for my name from the very beginning to avoid all of the back and forth. Mind you, this was on a weeknight and there was no one else in the shop. I would have understood if they were extremely busy, but that was not the case. They obey social distancing but they don't have great COVID precautions in place. The doors are closed and don't have hand sanitizer or towels for you to grip the handle with, so it's pretty much impossible to go in and out without having to touch the door handle. I asked the woman to help me open the door since my hands were full and she seemed extremely annoyed about having to do that. Their drinks were just okay. I like that they use fresh ingredients but their boba is not particularly tasty on its own and their signature milk tea didn't taste like much to me. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this place and will likely continue to order from TeaMorrow across the street. I like the agave nectar they use as a sweetener because it doesn't have the aftertaste you find in a lot of milk teas; the finish is a lot cleaner this way. Interestingly enough, their milk tea's overall flavor reminded me a little bit of the roasted rice flavor of genmaicha. Free wi-fi available inside and street parking/public lots around!
