Reservation was made. Had to wait 10 min but that gave us a chance to try out the bar. Sat down with another group of 3 as we were a group of 4. We all had fun. Food was Great and chef entertained us well. 3 of us had the KOBE and 1 of us had the steak and chicken. yumm yumm~ fun and this was my second time there~ great environment. im a big guy so it was a lil on the small side .. but the other customers accommodated and we made it work. Normally I have a good experience, but tonight I ordered chicken fried rice and steak fried rice with some crab Rangoon. It was supposed to be for pickup and they told me it'd be 15 minutes. I got there 20 min later and they told me they forgot to cook the crab Rangoon and I had to wait 8 extra minutes for it. Once getting home and eating we noticed that the rice was very hard in both meals. Almost inedible. read more

Awful experience. We were there for an hour and never actually got our drinks. Further, they were out of salmon (really? You're a sushi joint). The menu had a staggering number of typos, no descriptions for several items, and the most scattered server on earth. When we finally gave up and asked for the check (instead of attempting to order anything beyond apps), our server disappeared, never to return again. Full Disclaimer: This was my first ever Habachi experience. Simon's was nice and not overly priced. We had about a 10 minute wait on a Wednesday night without making a reservation. It was very busy despite being the middle of a week. So 10 minutes was more than fair. I thought my food was very tasty. There wasn't an overwhelming amount of options, but enough that you could choose from a variety of red meats, chicken, fish, and seafood. You get a decent amount of food: salad, soup, veggies, rice, shrimp, and whatever meal you order. I ordered the steak and scallops and didn't leave hungry. I'm not sure why some of the reviews are so bad. I thought our service was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. read more

We went out for a friends birthday on Jan 22nd 2022. We started the night hopeful as our drinks came out fast. However, we could tell right off the bat that our waitress was new to serving (Ashley). Appetizers came out fast and were delicious, for the most part. We waited an hour for food and it came out stone cold. We then told our waitress that the food was cold, she looked confused and I quote "I brought it over when they called my name". We then talked to the manager and he was very nice and considerate. We got our food back, steaming hot. We finished our food and waited a half hour for the check. We then got the bill and it was completely messed up. We were willing to give her a chance at first but... We were also sitting by the window which was probably the worst spot in the restaurant. No silverware for our salad until approximately ten minutes later. No soup for 30. A very bad experience, especially as a birthday dinner. Our waitress seemed to have no waitress experience. She also yelled at another employee in front of the whole restaurant. She approached us saying "What now". Edit: Shrimp was very over cooked. The hotel suggested this place for tapas, and while the food was good, I can't say the same for the service. I sat at the bar, which has seen better days. I don't know if bar brawls are common here, but what else explains chunks of wood gouged out of the woodwork? Ordering a drink took 3 tries, because the answer was usually, "We don't have that." Hendricks Gin? A single malt scotch? Bitters for a Manhattan? We're not talking exotic stuff here. After I got my drink I was ignored for the next 15 minutes while 6 or 7 of the staff shuttled back and forth between the kitchen and the bar, mostly chatting about their social lives. I was there early in the evening, so staff outnumbered customers by about two-to-one, so why no one could get served remained a mystery. I finally used my cell phone to call the place, and said, "I'm sitting at the bar, can I get a menu?" The look on the girl's face was priceless, and after that I got some service. They were out of the first 2 items I selected from the tapas menu (of course), but I finally went with the chicken satay skewers, Spanish shrimp, and a beef filet. The satay was tasty, but the chicken was dried out and very salty. The shrimp were good, with lots of garlic, and the beef was OK, but nothing special. For the area it is something a bit different, but not someplace I'd give a 2nd visit. read more

Came into town on business on a rainy dreary Monday night. Stopped into Simons because of the Yelp reviews. Having visited the Elmira area in the past, I was a bit leary about dining out in a "non chain" restaurant. I always sit at the bar when I am by myself and found a spot right away. The interior is kind of a mismatch of old diner and shabby sheek. The Tapas is prepared behind the bar and it is fun to watch the chef preparing the food. There were a few people gathered around a hibachi table and a "first date" couple next to me. The wailing of a baby at the hibachi table may have bothered the first daters, but did not bother me. I really like draft beer and was dissapointed to find they did not have any draft. However, they had a nice bottle selection and the beer I ordered was ice cold. The bartender was prompt and friendly. She handed me a menu which unforunately had stains all over the inside. Pretty gross and unexpected from a "fine" establishment. I asked the young lady behind the bar to suggest some Tapas. She ran off her 3 faovorites and I said "sounds good" First came the dumplings. I ordered them steamed. They came with a nice garlicky sauce and a peanut sauce. Pretty standard dumplings, nothing special, but the cucumber salad was outstanding. I wished I could order a bowl to go........Next was a nice shrimp with vegatables. This dish was excellent and the shrimp and veggies were fresh and delicious. Last was the curry chicken Tapas. Nice spicy curry sauce with fresh veggies. They were not afraid to make this dish spicy and i left with a wonderful curry taste im my mouth. The bartender was happy that I took her suggestions and she came by often to ask how I was doing. When I left, the owner and 2 of the hostesses thanked me for coming. We called ahead and made a reservation for 7:00pm for Hibachi and were seated at about 7:15 after the group in front of us finished. I would say if you want want to wait for a long time GET A RESERVATION! The place was packed and isn't very big. The place was very clean and looked good. I had the chicken and steak and it was 19 bucks which is a very good price. The chef was good one girl in our party has a shell fish allergy so they cooked her food separate. The portion and quality of the food was generous compared to most I've been to! One thing I look for when going for Hibachi is the speed of the chef. If they take too long it gets cold by the time you get all your food. Our chef was fast compared to most which isn't an easy thing making so many meats! He did forget to give me my steak and apologized and quickly had them bring out filet Mignon (free upgrade) so that was nice. The only other minus was i drank my glass of water fairly quick and I didn't get a refill to almost at the end of the meal. We did get dessert they had assorted caked I had the carrot cake and my wife had some lemon cake both were ok nothing great I would recommend getting dessert elsewhere. So all in all this place ranks well in the land of Hibachi places. I would definitely go here over Mount Fuji due to faster service. Parking is easy and free in public lot, they takes reservations, and takes credit cards. read more

Stopped here tonight with my roommate in search of some decent local fare....we were disappointed. We were interested in the tapas portion of the restaurant, not the hibachi style grill. Perhaps that side features more enticing food? Either way this review is only based on the bar and tapas side. Tried the torrentes-chardonnay blend, not impressed. Bar was dirty and the bartender attentive only to a bare minimum. We were seated 20 minutes later, and we ordered three plates "to start". Soft-shell crab, Spanish Garlic Shrimp, and Mini Seafood Paella. The crab was greasy, but edible. The shrimp was overcooked, and the garlic was more a feature in the spinach sauteed on the side. The "paella" was essentially white rice with diced onions, cucumbers, and peppers. While the seafood was plentiful, the flavor was not. A sincere lack of sofrito, callaspara rice, and saffron made me wish the owner had put the title of the dish in quotations. Perhaps my expectations are a bit high, but if you're in the region looking for Tapas, head to the Cellar in Corning before trying this joint. read more

I'm not sure how this place has four stars, maybe it's because I'm used having really good sushi and hibachi in places where they have more choices. My one big irritation with this place is that you can not order hibachi if you sit on the tapas side. I understand they make the hibachi in front of you at those stations but it doesn't seem difficult to also make it in the kitchen where everything else is made. As far as sushi goes, there is a decent amount to choose from, but if you're a vegetarian there really is only one. The avocado, cucumber, and asparagus roll. It's a little weird for me to not even have a plain cucumber roll, or a few other options. It wasn't bad, tasted pretty fresh. I also ordered the vegetable fried rice. My recommendation to anyone ordering this is - DON'T. Unless you like salty, and I mean REALLY salty rice then yes, you'll love it but wow. It is covered in salty soy sauce, I'm not sure how they managed to make it SO salty. Not the entire dish is that salty, but for the most part it is and not enjoyable. A friend of mine suggested this place and said she really liked it but I would have to say I am not a big fan and probably won't be going back. Speaking in generalities, because I've had most of the dishes on the menu (to help soak up those cocktails) I think you could heat up a frozen meal and it would be of the same complexity and quality. Where do I start? Service was fine. Food was something I could have gotten in the frozen section of the supermarket. The chicken satay was deep fried with no marinade whatsoever. The peanut sauce was peanut butter with maybe some sweetener and no spice whatsoever. The dumplings I have had better frozen. For a small town like Horseheads, you aren't going to find anything quite like Simon's, so in context it's a neat place to go with family or friends. But if you're used to teppanyaki restaurants and performances in bigger cities, this might be sort of an embarrassing experience for you. Nevertheless, the food is tasty (if a bit too salty) and will leave you satisfied. The meat is always cooked well, as are the veggies. In podunk upstate fashion, the portions are generous and will send you off with tomorrow's lunch or tonight's stomach ache. As for the tapas, I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Don't expect traditional Japanese cuisine here; it's mostly--if not all--fusion dishes. This isn't a problem in itself, of course, but for the quality and flavor, the food is just nowhere near worth the price. And sorry, but the extremely limited sushi choices are poor at best. Overall, Simon's is a great place to get a "Japanese" dinner (fried rice, veggies, and meat) from the hibachi. Don't bother with the tapas or the sushi. read more

No sushi, no lemons, probably no something else that no one in our party happened to order. Long story short, the bartenders and the martinis are still good, the food is average and the service is abysmal. STAY AWAY!!! On 2/26/22, my siblings and I decided to take our parents out for their 60th anniversary. We wanted something different and went to Simons for a Habachi experience. We had the most awful experience ever. The place was packed and very busy, we had reservations for 7pm and didn't get seated for at least 45 min. We ordered drinks at the bar and one glass of wine was served in a glass with lipstick on it and they didn't have Japanese beer. (We should have gotten the hint then). We finally got seated and was hoping for a good meal and show. We got neither, The server brought out a salad and some chicken broth as soup, not very authentic. The chef was less than entertaining and kept squirting Saki at us. At one point he must have made a mistake with the steak order and threw away some steak instead of offering it to us. The scallops were overcooked, and at one point we were worried that we would have to take our 85 year old mother to the hospital as she was getting sick from the food. That ended our night early. In the past, this place was good, now it is dirty, smelly and overcrowded. read more

Called at 0848, reserved hibachi for four, 1800. Simon's called back at 1541, to confirm our table. Was told 1800 was no problem, we were good to go. But we weren't. Showed up 1745, ordered drink at bar. Wine (house cab. sauv.) was oxidized. The bartender said she thought it had been opened a while and gladly opened a new bottle; new glass was great. Good thing too, because it was to be the last drink I'd have for a while. We were seated at our hibachi table at 1843. I nursed the glass of wine for over an hour before the waitress at the table inquired into next drinks. Our counterpart family at the table hadn't even received their waters. Follow up drinks came separately, waitress needed to be reminded several times. Took three reminders for other family's coffees. Waitress unapologetic. Soup and salad didn't come out till after 1930. The soup had ONE piece of mushroom in it, the salad had ONE small piece of tomato and cucumber. Iceberg lettuce was just beginning to brown. The hibachi cook was the only good part about the evening. He was great, very entertaining, and the food was good. However, we received zero water refills or orders for follow up drinks. It was not busy for a Tuesday night. At check out, it took them 3 failed tries to get us correct bills. We ended up handwriting our orders for them to put into the computer. Overall, food was great, literally everything else was terrible. Cherry on top, my pregnant wife shouldn't be responsible to track down toilet paper. We've visited several times in the past. Unfortunately, each time has been increasingly worse. We'll stick to Thai 119 from now on. read more

We ordered two scallop hibachi meals, an order of crab rangoons, and an order of yakisoba to go. Listed on their "order online" website it states you get soup & salad with every hibachi order. When we got home, we were missing both for both hibachi meals. We called back and the person on the phone got defensive saying they "don't do those to go" even though it's right on their to go menu online. Essentially that was half our meal. They ended up hanging up on us and hung up every time we tried to call back. Avoiding customers because you know you're wrong.. unprofessional. Aside from that- the hibachi just wasn't very good. It was bland compared to our normal hibachi place which unfortunately closed down this past year. Also didn't come with any of the normal hibachi sauces? The crab rangoons were practically empty and just gross. We had a bad experience with them in the past but decided to give them another try. Can't wait for the new hibachi place to open near us soon! the food here is excellent. when i am in town, my parents always offer to take me out to dinner somewhere i choose, and i have always chosen simon's. the hibachi is really great, the best i have ever had. best fried rice as well. portions are HUGE and completely worth every penny (and prices are completely reasonable.) tapas is also reasonably priced, but in my opinion, not as good at the hibachi. service is prompt and attentive. the soup is awesome! great drinks at the bar, really fun karaoke that you will see everyone you went to high school who still lives in town at, and a more upscale hanover square experience than you'll get anywhere else except maybe louie's. read more

We have been going to Simon's for years to celebrate different special occasions. We haven't been in the last two years or so, preferring to go to Wild Ginger on Market Street in Corning because of the larger variety of food and speed of service. We decided to give Simon's another try tonight as we have enjoyed it so much in the past but were very disappointed. The first issue was when there was plastic wrap stuck to a few pieces of our sushi. But the main problem was that the service was awful. Granted, I am pretty sure there was one waitress for the whole restaurant but that's not our fault and definitely not a great idea on a Friday night. She came to the table once to get our orders and once to deliver our drinks. She never refilled our beverages or came back until the very end. I asked for more waters once when she walked by and she said "of course" but still had not brought anything 10 minutes later. Eventually one of the women at the party next to us stopped the host and asked him for a pitcher of water. The manager brought it out a few minutes later. She never offered for anyone to see a dessert menu either. The table never got cleared of salad or soup dishes and it was very crowded. Also, when the chef got to our table and went around asking how people liked their steaks there was a wide variety from medium-rare to well done. But when he cooked them, they all were done at the same time and mine was definitely overcooked. The flavor of the rice, shrimp, and vegetables were the saving grace and reason for three stars. However, we will not be back and will definitely be sticking with Wild Ginger on Market Street from now on. read more

Absolutely delicious whether you choose the tapas side or the Hibachi side. Food is very high quality, just as good as the high end places we've been to in NYC. Our table's favorite tapas were the scallops and the tuna sashimi. Very good martinis, especially the chocolate and mint chocolate ones. I only wish they made espresso martinis!!! Terrible service. We had a reservation for 7pm and showed up promptly only to wait in the tiny waiting room with a bathroom for 40 minutes!!! The waiting room is small enough to seat 6 comfortably and is highly trafficked by a poorly placed lavatory. After being seated you can look forward to an extended wait from your server. It's currently more than 50 minutes after the reservation and we don't even have drinks in front of us. Unfortunately, Simons takes an automatic 18% gratuity on groups of 6 or larger so there is no opportunity to bring attention to the atrocious service. Now let's talk about the food, the Miso soup was about as warm as the residual heat from the flat top grill and the starter small salad is supposed to have a light ginger dressing, but apparently they ran out and covered them in an off-brand thousand island. The chicken and shrimp was cooked very well and the mixed vegetables paired nicely with the fried rice. The chef did a nice job of interacting with us and making the experience far more enjoyable than it started out. Overall I would recommend to eat here ONLY IF you aren't in a time crunch. read more

Decent food. Good music. Their drink specials are really good. Plus, it's hibachi. Worth the drive.

The habatchi side is great for groups and celebrations. The cooks are always friendly and entertaining. Some of the seats are very tight and there is a lot of noise. You may also have others in your group as is with most habatchi style restaurants. I don't recommend getting an end seat as you will feel you in the way or pushed off. I wouldn't recommend bringing an infant unless its earlier. Sometimes the parties get very rowdy. We have gone a few times for kids birthday dinners and they love it just make reservations for an appropriate time. The Tapas side is great for 4 or less people unless you are sitting at the bar. The drinks are very good especially the martini's and the tapas menu is always a hit. Make sure you try the Crab Ragoons! read more
