Been coming here for awhile not sure why I haven't reviewed it. Usually get the shrimp tacos. Placed the order for pickup, I was told fifteen minutes. 11 minutes later I walk in, was asked to pay, and of course the machine is going to ask for tip. My food wasn't out and I'm already trippin if I don't tip that my food might not come out on time, but me being me, I'm not leaving a tip after I just drove in traffic to get my food. Dining in would obviously be a different story. I also chose a printed receipt but the cashier just took it out and ripped it up right in front of me. I $h#t you not, I waited almost 25 minutes more after the initial 11 minutes. People that came after me got their orders before me. When I get to my car and open the box the shrimp were charcoal black, almost no sauce and the tortillas hard around the edges. The asada tacos were slightly better but nowhere near what it was the last time I came here. Tortillas hard, and a dash of cilantro and onion, and bland meat. Now did this happen because I didn't tip? Sure seemed like it! It seems as though I will not be coming back again. read more

I really wanted to like Simón Tacos... but Simon says to keep it real. I was uber-excited to check out this place from all the good reviews from my fellow Yelpers. This place has a private parking lot, which is absolutely unheard of in Chicago, but that's awesome! They also have a pretty cool looking outdoor seating area, if you want to eat some tacos while enjoying the outdoor Chicago summer weather. Simón Tacos is a casual dining spot. You go to the front, order your food, they give you a number, you pick a seat, and eventually your number gets called and you pick up your order. They have a fridge stocked with different flavors of Jaritos, pop, or if you want agua, they have a water dispenser near the front entrance of the place. I went ahead and ordered some tacos: Steak -- was OK, but I thought it was rather bland Chicken -- dry, and somewhat bland Lengua -- probably the star of the show. I also tried the guacamole and it was A-OK. It was flavorful, but I did wish it was chunkier. But overall, decent. All tacos came with onions and cilantro. I asked if they had them pickled hot peppers, and they were able to dig some up for me! Sadly I was looking forward to elotes, but Simón did not have any. Overall, the staff were nice, the place was nice, but the food was A-OK. BATHROOM REVIEW: There is a mens and womens single person bathroom. Inside, the bathroom was kind of small, but it got the job done. Although there is a sink outside of the bathroom, there are also a sink in the men's bathroom as well. Sit or squat? Squat. read more

I had gone to Simmons tacos in the past and had a pretty good meal. This last time I went I ordered the steak fajitas. They were the worst tasting fajitas I have ever had in my entire life. I am not even sure what the chef was thinking to put out That grade of meat. I'm not even sure if it was steak. It was all gristle and very poorly seasoned to the point where it tasted like a very gamy liver. I was really hoping for something better because the ambience is nice and the rice and beans are delicious, but the fajitas were a complete disaster and I will not be going back. read more

We live in Jefferson Park and have been looking for a good taco spot for over a year. We ordered Simon last night after driving by and noticing their cute patio. It was delicious! I got the enchiladas and my husband tried four different tacos. Everything was very flavorful and it came piping hot. Will definitely order delivery again and looking forward to going in person! read more

This was my first time here since it was La Palapita years ago, and I'm so glad that I went. This is super close to work, and we decided to go check it out for lunch. We were all really happy that we did. It's a very cool place inside and out, and the colors and wall art inside are vivid and it has this great vibe about it. It was a beautiful day so we enjoyed their outside dining space as well. The food was amazing too! The menu is pretty extensive so it was hard to choose, but I went with the al pastor burrito. When I tell you I was happy I went with the regular and not the super I mean as big as the regular was I have no idea how anyone can put away the super. I had a hard time with that and I can eat, but I couldn't stop eating because it was so delicious! We got two orders of chops and salsa on the house with two different salsas, both good but the roja had some real kick to it. Two others had the sopes and said they were very good and piled high, and the others had a torta and nachos also huge portions. The guy at the counter was very friendly and was quick with the ordering and our food came out quick and hot. Another employee came outside and helped us put two tables together so we had extra room. I will go back here for sure. Fantastic food in the area and a great atmosphere too, so it's a no brainer. read more

Last few times had bad experiences... used to love this place... Food was terrible ordered the carne asada plate and literally I weighed it I received 2.1 oz of meat and all the rest was red onions.. I mean tons of onions... I paid $30 for 2.1 oz of plain carne asada with zero seasoning and a half cup of rice with a 1/2 cup of beans.. oh and lots of onions.. they try hiding the fact that there is no meat with tons of onions.. will not go back anymore.. read more

One of the best places in the city on the Northside for Mexican food! Food is always fresh and cooked to order. Great customer service every time and again delicious. This is my go to for take out! Never had a single issue!!! I ate one time on their patio, but mostly I carry out. Never a disappointment read more

Excellent homemade guacamole and chips. Carne asada taco plate was perfectly seasoned! We'll be back

UPDATE: Went back in the middle of the day when it was slow. THE TACOS WERE FILLED and very tasty. Clearly the bad experiences I had with barely-filled tacos occurred during very busy times and they were rushing. I'll keep going back before the busy hours. The food is really good but there's nothing worse than ordering food for takeout and spend a lot of money on it, only to find they skimped on the fillings. read more

Amazing tacos and horchata, friendly service. fantastic portions!! I love this place.

Great vibe, food great. Free Parking a real extra, especially when it come to this section of Milwalkee Avenue.

SO glad I came across this place that's a short walking distance from my apartment. Ordered a 3 taco dinner with an Horchata and everything was fresh and phenomenal. These tacos are super flavorful and they're PACKED with meat. I can normally eat 4 tacos per sitting but I was stuffed after taco #2. I will def be coming back more regularly! read more

I tried the steak tacos they were basic not much flavor the place does look nice inside, the girl at the counter I requested the meat be chopped finely, guess what? It was not! Haha not very busy at the time so I guess she forgot and did not tell the cook or write that request on the order ticket. The Food was not made to order and that's not ok with me.. So most likely I'll be looking for a better taco experience is this was not up to my standards. PERIOD! read more

Poor customer service. I had to call twice to place an order. The listed prices on the menu are not accurate and they charge you more. The quality of mi Chile relleno dinner plate very poor. It supposed to have two chilies. Look at the pic of my second chile. Inedible with no cheese. read more

My husband and I got salmonella after eating at this place . I came here one hour before closing , they said they were about to close and can only get order to go or sit outside in the patio . My husband and I got pastor tacos and my other friends got steak tacos . I tried contacting the owner but I guess he didn't care or even bother to email me back . I'm surely never ever returning to this place . read more

I was looking for a good taco spot and this might be it. I ordered TOGO, the asada taco, Al pastor, and lengua all with just cilantro and onion. Also a chorizo quesadilla. Overall pretty solid, the asada had good grill flavor and I saw them grilling the meat so it made me have good hopes for the flavor. Lengua taco was good too. Both needed a tad bit more salt. Al pastor taco was solid. The quesadilla was heavier than I thought, very cheesy but worth the price, overall a good amount of meat in the tacos. The salsa verde was nice and spicy too. Had an horchata too, I wish it had some ice, but I didn't ask either. I'll come back when around which will be soon. Easy parking too read more

Good reviews must come from people that aren't familiar with great Mexican food. For one you go in there and don't even get greeted. I guess they had a new person in training because it seemed that the guy that was with her in the register (whom looked like the manager ) was guiding her on how to work it.She started taking my order then he jumped in and I spoke Spanish to him and he responded in English (mind you he looks more Mexican than I do) Everytime I spoke to him in Spanish he would respond in English as if he didn't know Spanish (although he had an accent in English so I would be very surprised if he doesn't know Spanish ).He has a dry attitude and makes you feel uncomfortable as he comes off as arrogant and rude. The food isn't even nowhere near tasty,it was cold and if you eat on the outside patio you have to serve yourself and go get your food etc .This is not a place I would recommend to anyone I care about or anyone who knows real Mexican food.I can see hipster or teens going here and enjoying this fake dishes.Thumbs down read more

Why am I just finding out about this place!?!? Simons is just a few blocks from me and somehow I've managed to overlook this place although passing them daily for nearly 2 years now. I love their vegetarian nachos. Unlike most mexican restaurants that load their nachos with just cheese and a few veggies, these come loaded with fresh lettuce, tomato, cilantro, onion, guacamole, pico de Gallo, rice, beans, yellow cheese ......on top of homemade chips. Their red salsa is fire too, try it, you won't be disappointed. Highly suggest ordering via Uber Eat (.50 cent delivery charge) as they tend to be very busy almost always. read more

"Simon's Tacos" replaced the deserted Mexican restaurant, "La Palapita," just a few blocks north of the Six Corners shopping district. I knew their Yelp reviews so far weren't stellar. Since we often took a walk east to that area, we decided to pay this new establishment a visit. Overall, I would say the food was a very average 3.5 stars, but "repeated-business worthiness" and "solo-diner suitability" were 4 stars in my opinion. I had to agree with some of the reviews on their pricing: burritos ($8), super burritos ($10), tortas ($7), and platillos ($12). Surely we all wished they could be $1-$2 cheaper. If the extra money we pay would be used wisely on maintaining cleanliness of the space and equipment, cool, go ahead and charge my card. With that being said, the conditions of dining room, floors, and the restrooms were nearly immaculate. Please keep that way. Hubby and I went on a relatively slow Monday evening. Service was prompt; complementary salsas (roja y verde) and chips were offered while we were waiting for our chile relleno torta and barbacoa burrito. Hubby truly enjoyed his burrito. He commented that the beef was seasoned very well and the portion was adequate. However, the my chile relleno was good, yet it wasn't the best I ever had. The balance of the ingredients was slightly off. For some reason, I was tasting too much diced onion and lettuce, which made the entire torta "soggy." I will still come back here. This part of Milwaukee Ave. is usually my "out-and-about" route, and Portage Park is where I reside. Simon's is a nice alternative to the nearby "Hot Dog Express," when I crave for Mexican food. In addition, it's a solid choice for someone who wants to dine solo and doesn't want greasy spoon from a national chain. It costs around $10 (an entree and a drink). I personally consider reasonable for the city standard. Did I mention free parking in their private lot? read more

4/2022 5* Loved everything we ordered. Not a fan of the interior décor. Has a Mexico flavor to it. But all the painting of skulls is not for me or my family. But we will certainly continue to get food to go. Not sure if you use the home made Corn Chips in your Nachos But the Nacho's were amazing!!! The chips were outstanding. Some of the best I have ever eaten! Loved how full it was. Lots of meat, cheese, etc. The pictures do not do it justice! Its awesome! Steak and Barbacoa tacos. Yummy and full! The Carne Asada Super Burrito? I have never had such a full Burrito!! Everything was well worth the money spent. Parking was terrible. But that is the City for you. Clean restaurant inside and out. I did have to wait a while for my order. About 15 minutes. That was annoying. But the wait was totally worth it! See you next time! read more

I don't have a lot of money to eat out, but when I did, I used to love to walk to Simón Tacos. Until the last time. I ordered the taco dinner. So excited for my tacos!!! I go up to the counter to pick up my food and my tacos are covered in heaps of cheese. I'm so confused, I just stand there and stare at the plate, and the guy behind the counter asks me what's wrong. I point out the cheese and tell him that I can't eat cheese. (I hate sending an order back. If there's any way I can eat the food, I will, but the cheese was melting over everything on the plate--besides, who in the world puts cheese on street tacos?) The thing is, they're mad at **me** Everybody behind the counter is acting like I'm the one that screwed up. (Man, I've worked in restaurants, it's a hard job. I don't need everybody to act all friendly, just make great food, but this attitude they were throwing at me was really puzzling.) Finally I get my order and it was really good. And then...... .....that night, I get so sick. Like, praying to all of the gods sick. Bargaining with the universe sick. Everything I've ever eaten leaves my body in one way or another. It was bad and it took me a few days to recover. The only thing I'd eaten that was different from what I normally eat in a day was the tacos--the tacos I sent back and they re-made for me. The same guys who were mad **at me** for them messing up my order. I don't know what they did to my order, but I'll never go back. I'll take 3 buses to a different taco shop before I walk back into Simón Tacos. read more

The tacos were really really good. I got the chorizo tacos and they were bangin. My fiance got the nachos. You could tell most ingredients were made from scratch that gave it that complex and really tasty feel though the chips were a little thick all in all I would def recommend read more

This place used to be our favorite when here once a week never had a problem walk to buy four tacos, two steak two chicken with cheese plain. Let's just put it this way. I walked out asking them to cancel my order because three of them just looked at me dumbstruck like they didn't know what the fuck I was talking about, and he's not very intelligent for hiring these people so I literally paid for four tacos and walked out and told him to keep the money because I think they needed more than I do too. Maybe they can use it to educate their staff and themselves -10 stars I only give them one because it's mandatory to write a review. read more

Just did order for pickup and wasnt even greeted the cashier was rude but food was good

Relatively new to the neighborhood, This is a must for tacos, tostados, guac, burritos, etc! I've had it all and it is delicious. When I eat the guac, I am brought back to my time in Mexico! It's perfectly made! They offer taco dinners for $7, which is very reasonable. Their steak is charred and so good! Definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs some good tacos in their life! read more

I left a mean review, but after a polite response from the owner I felt obligated to edit the words that I used. Here's my review: Pros: Flavorful, fairly fresh, and accessible. Hit's the spot when I have some cravings for tacos/burritos. Cons: Service is inconsistent/not a priority, the food is pricey for what it is, and Simon's does not do anything great enough to set them apart from the other taco spots in the area (if they do, then I haven't had it yet). I suggest L'Patron if you want to find better tacos/burritos for the same prices. read more

I've been ordering from here for a bit. Usually they're on point. But today I order delivery from them and they gave me my tacos without the cheese that I paid .40cents per taco extra for. I ordered guacamole which comes with tortilla chips but I didn't get the chips. And the guacamole was watery. I ordered the carne asada platillo which comes with fajita veggies. No veggies in the dish. Very disappointed. They said they would refund me $15 back from my order. We'll see if that happens. I love this joint. But if they don't get it together they'll lose a loyal customer. read more

Simòn Tacos is a reliable taqueria, and I go there frequently. I've never been disappointed by the food. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that they have a number of options so that I do t have to eat the same thing every visit.
