We are from Iowa and were looking for some good tacos before heading back home. This place did not disappoint. The tacos were amazing. Love the tortilla they used for them. Lady who took my order was friendly. The place looks a bit worn down but that's probably most of the buildings in this side of town. The bathroom was not 5 star but it was clean so I don't have any complaints. The appearance shouldn't distract you from the main reason of coming here: the food. You can dine in or carry out. Tacos were 5 stars, very delicious. Would come back again. read more

This place sucks I ask for chimichangas and when I got them they where burn it tasted terrible the rice the bean I would never order from them again and I suggested the you don't either your going to be very disappointed this place should close there door they are a disgrace for the Mexican restaurant read more

I'm going to be nice here; it's actually 2.5 stars. Hubby and I wanted to try a different place in our neighborhood, so this was our choice for tonight. I was pretty disappointed. The caldo de Cameron was blend, even though they included extra chili peppers. The intrinsic kick a soup should possess; in other words, wasn't present. The tragic story occurred at the end of my soup consumption: one of the shrimps wasn't, at all, de-shelled. That particular shrimp shouldn't be in my soup, or in anyone else's. Owner(s): please take a note. Hubby's pork gordita was just ok. He definitely prefers the gordita by the joint diagonally across the McDonald's on Lawrence. If you want to know what that joint is, please take a look at my other review on that joint. Their menu is more extensive. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong items. if that's the case, I will come back, if there's absolutely no other options for me to eat at 2100 hour. I have to honestly say: living in Albany Park, There's always something better than this that opens late. read more

Typical sunday night, everything is closed.. So we stumbled into this place. The food is great and cheap. I had a chicken huarache (5.99), which was a decent sized and flavorful. The boy got a cubana torta. (9.99) Lets talk about this cubana.. It was massive and two men could share one and be stuffed. I have never seen a Cubana torta this big. The boy couldn't finish it and he can eat a lot. read more

This authentico Mexican eatery is in my neighborhood. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with my order of chicken enchiladas suiza, generally one of my favorite typical Mexican dishes. The shredded chicken filling was tender but virtually flavorless. The cheese smothered the trio of enchiladas, but again with no flavorful effect. Perhaps I should have added the hot sauce to create some sort of sensation. The guy selling tamales from a cart in front of the nearby Mexican grocery store is a better bet, although I have not seen him since the recent heat wave. read more

We were on the hunt for cheap but delicious tacos and came across taqueria Morelia. We tried alambre, nopales, bistek de lomo, chuleta, chicharron, and carne asada tacos. All were delicious and I listed in order of my favs. Even tho this was thru delivery, the food arrived warm and fresh. Def will try again. read more

We ordered our food for delivery at 5:13pm. They charged our card and whoever they sent for delivery got here at 7:15. The delivery person asked us to pay him when we had paid when we placed our order. No type of communication nor organization. Horrible service. read more

Taqueria Morelia - Carne Asada Asada Gordita - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I stopped by for a quick lunch, straying away from my typical order of tacos for a gordita instead. For those who have never tried one, a gordita is a fresh masa dough disc that's griddled or fried, split, and filled with your choice of ingredients. Although it wasn't on their menu, I asked for a chicharron gordita and fortunately they did offer it. The chicharron was simmered in tomatillo salsa, soaking it up like a sponge. This may be off-putting for those who prefer crunchy chicharron, but I really enjoyed it. The rest of the gordita was filled with onion, cilantro, and a smear of refried beans. Simple, delicious, and inexpensive. The gordita plus horchata was less than $5. The place itself is small, but clean. Service was friendly. And it's directly across the Admiral Theater, so I'm sure they get plenty of customers late night. I'll stick to lunch, though :) read more

I'm surprised for a heavily Yelped neighborhood like Albany Park, this place had only 1 review before mine. Two guys I work with joined me here for lunch on a Friday. Located in a small storefront half-block east of Pulaski, this is a real Mexican's Mexican restaurant. Remarkably affordable with plentiful servings of great food sums it up best. The walls, painted red in swirly, stucco-like fashion, display Mexican art. Since the dining area is pretty small, it almost feels like coming over to eat at someone's home. When we arrived, there was a large family with children eating lunch. Spanish country music from WOJO FM played in the background. For the duration of my 45-minute stay at the restaurant, I think I was the only non-Hispanic customer in the place but I felt right at home anyway. The waitress didn't speak much English, so both of my co-workers ordered in Spanish. I said "Carne asada burrito" instead of steak burrito to do my benchmark burrito test on the place. I also got a side of rice and beans and a tall glass of horchata. Despite her limited English, she got my order correct. The guys ordered their favorite, as this is the home of the $3 tortas. Not a lame torta served on a hamburger bun, but a massive sammich loaded with meat, thick slices of avocado and other toppings, covering the entire plate! The bread looked home-baked, not mass produced. My steak burrito was excellent too. So big, in fact, that it was cut in half. We also shared a bowl of chips and 2 dishes of salsa: red and green. The red was the hotter of the two but a bit too oily for my liking. The green salsa was perfect: just the right amount of kick balanced with the perfect flavor enhancement for the burrito. In the end, I paid less than $8 for a massive burrito, 2 sides and the horchata drink. You can't easily top that at any nearby places I know. Besides your lunch & dinner items, they also have an extensive breakfast menu with eggs, Mexican sausage or omelette. I think this can become my new favorite Mexican place near my workplace. For all you late-nighters living in the area, it's open till 1 AM but keep in mind it's cash only - no credit/debit cards. read more

Been going here for years and it will always hit the spot. Plenty of options to choose from but I always get the red chilaquiles. They are spicy as heck which is what I look for on a Sunday morning after a hangover lol. Great small place and service is very friendly. read more

Get the pastor. Asada tacos were pretty meh. Tough, impressively little flavor. From the looks of the other reviews here, some of their other meat options aren't spectacular either. But the al pastor... holy crap. Best al pastor I've had to date... and I sample taquerias like it's my job. You're cheating yourself if you don't try at least one pastor taco here. Horchata, service, and prices were all a bit above average as well, but not worth raving about. read more

If you like stale bread...order a torta!! Huge disappointment! Won't be going back. My dog didn't mind the torta! read more

My order consisted of only tacos. Tacos are pretty hard to mess up. If tacos are bad.. I have very little faith in other more strenuous entrees. My taco order consisted of tacos al pastor which seemed to be recommended and a taco asada. The taco al pastor was decent but had alot of nerve/gristle so that was the reason I can say I didn't enjoy it as much. If you remove all that, you see you end up with a lot less meat on the taco. The asada was okay.. not the most seasoned but I prefer unseasoned and just add salsa than have it be too salty which can happen a lot when an overzealous "taquero" overdoes it with the salt.... The cilantro looked fresh...which is good because sadly there are some places that will use days old cilantro..but this one looked fresh. This place will fall into the category of I tried it..it was okay.. but I will not be rushing to return. read more

This place is the izzo! I'm sure good and cheap hardly go together... but the food is fantastic and the prices make it seem like a steal. The waiters/waitresses are courteous and polite. Eat there or take it to go! The tortas and carne asada dinner are awesome! read more

Steak tacos have more fat then meat. They use ripe plantains and lettuce as fillers for their guacamole dip. The place was shut down by the city several times for not meeting city code and compliance.. In other words, it's dirrrrttty!! read more

This place can be hit and miss at times, but I'd give them a five star rating if their good chef didn't have a day off. Four it is. I'm just now attempting to eat a burrito dinner that was bought three hours ago...work got in the way, oops...and it's great! Seriously. I'd pay them the $13 I give to asadero and drive the extra three miles if it was consistent. I paid $8. P.S. No Code Violations. Good luck finding that anywhere. read more

Ordered through Grubhub both red and green chilaquiles and although menu states it has egg both came without. Both hot sauces were extremely spicy to the point that it was not edible and went straight to the garbage. We eat and know spicy in our home but this is at an extreme new level. read more

It might be a little small, but this is a great "Mami y Papi" restaurant that you should definitely try if your a fan of real Mexican food in Chicago. The prices are reasonable and the portions are great. The service is also good and friendly. The restaurant was also clean and they remodeled a few years ago so it looks nice too. I recommend the Torta and Huaracha de Carne Asada and the Chilaquiles Verdes, but I've tried the Tacos and Burritos and they were great too! Really the only bad thing is that it is a relatively small place, but that gives it a little bit of charm to some people. This place proves that sometimes the best places are the small mom and pop places! read more

Amazing food! I had the Huarachote and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Warning!!!! Be ready to eat due to the HUARACHOTE is just gigantic. The tortas de huevo are incredible but please make sure to mentioned to the waitress to get the TORTA de huevo and not the breakfast torta due to the breakfast one is with out the bread (or pan). Again, this place was outstanding. Smile! read more

Three words, Al Pastor Huarache. This is some serious authentic Mexican fare. The huarache is a HUGE sandal shaped corn disc, filled with beans, then fried to golden crisp perfection. Topped with your choice of meat, cheese, cream, and veggies. A good huarache is tough to come by and this place nails it. Love the Al Pastor, but other people i've been here with rave about the Carne Asada as well. From the exterior it looks like your typical off the beaten path Mexican dive but don't be fooled, they serve up some tasty treats here. read more

Authentic tacos and burritos. I haven't tried other items on the menu but I have eaten the aforementioned regularly over the past year and a half. This place has amazing tacos. That's all I have tried because I'm not that brave. It's a little hole in the wall place..only has about 6 tables. One server. She is super nice tho. It's nothing special but I love a place with a good taco and this place does it! Very reasonable prices also. Love these kinda of joints that are plain Janes but get the job done. Stop in and try it. I can only vouch for the tacos but I'm sure you won't be disappointed! read more

Love this place, haven't had a bad meal here so far. Literally eat there so much they know my face by now!!! Only thing that's open later at night in the neighborhood which is a plus for me. Authentic, no frills Mexican food. The spot is kind of small but the staff does a good job of making you feel welcome. They can take a little time to cook so keep that in mind. I've stopped in here once before and the service was pretty bad but I decided to pop in for a quick lunch with my mother and a family friend. I've always ordered for pick up from here and the tacos are great! The al pastor in particular are amazing. The service was absolutely horrible! There was NO ONE else in the restaurant yet it took 10 minutes for us to have our order taken, we asked the waitress 3 times for water for the table, she messed up our order, and she was just plain rude. I'm all for supporting local businesses and I would honestly order for pick up again, but I'm not surprised the restaurant was dead. The service was a huge turn off. I'm giving three stars solely because the food is great. read more

I had the worst experience at this Mexican restaurant. When first got there it was pretty busy and 1 waitress for the whole restaurant. My order was a tampiquena, it was not a skirt steak but some kind of other cut, over cooked under seasoned and my sons torta got to the table before our drinks did which where hot and we asked for ice and received it 15 minutes later. I didn't get my guacamole until I was done with my meal , and they put lettuce on the bottom to make look full. My bill was $56 and not worth it at all. I was extremely unhappy with the service and the food. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL read more
