I've dabbled in cake decorating, so I have an idea about the cost of ingredients and the amount of labor that goes into making a cake. I'm also from the NYC area, and am used to those kinds of prices. The cake we got from Simon Lee for my parents' 50th Anniversary was very reasonably priced, absolutely a show-stopper, and truly delicious. Thank you to everyone at Simon Lee for such a high quality and lovely cake for my parents' special day.

We just had our cake tasting at Simon Lee and I couldn't have been more disappointed! We sat there for 12 minutes before they brought out the pieces of cake to start the tasting. When I asked for water Art seemed hesitant to bring us any. I would have thought that it was a normal request when tasting cake. After we finally got the cake and went through the flavors it was downhill. He did ask us all the normal questions, but then he was so hung up on the other places we have tried and how the compare. He wanted to know who else we've tried. Then he straight up asked "How did their cake compare to ours". It was so extremely uncomfortable! And then to top it off he flat out asked "so what pricing did they give you?" Which only made it more awkward. He followed up by asking what other places we are going to. Then when he found out we live in Pflugerville he jokingly chided us for not shopping local. I understand that while he is drawing out the cake he has to find something to talk about but that was completely inappropriate. It was such a terrible experience I would never recommend Simon Lee to anyone. We spent more time talking about our other tasting than we did what we wanted from Simon Lee.

THE BEST WEDDING CAKES IN TOWN!!! We loved everything about working with Simon Lee - the deliciousness of their cakes is unmatched, their look & quality of work is perfect, and their kindness and professionalism is rare. Judy and Jad took such great care of us. Their bakery may not be the fanciest but that doesn't even matter - the cakes are beautiful and delicious. Not like your guests are even going to see what the bakery looks like... I must have changed my mind about the style of cake at least 5 times - each time they were so helpful and patient. My final choice was actually one that Judy recommended and it turned out better than I could have imagined! She read me so well and got the cake spot on. I cannot stop looking at pictures of my cake! Daniel's cake was a basketball on a sheet cake base that looked like a basketball court - amazing! The detail and accuracy of everything blew everyone away. We had so many guests tell us it was the best cake they've ever had and we completely agree. We found out after our wedding that our coordinator walked in on the venue workers boxing up extra cake to take home. While that really angers me, it speaks volumes of just how amazing the cake is. Simon Lee is worth every delicious penny.

I found Simon Lee through the Bridal Expo last year. I tried many different cakes and flavors, and Simon Lee had the best tasting cake HANDS DOWN. So moist and the flavors are authentic, not artificial. Another thing that stood out was their cake displays. WOW so tall, detailed, elegant and beautiful. They have such a wide range of talent, doing not only wedding cakes, but grooms cakes, birthday cakes, specialty cakes. They make UT tower replica cakes for goodness sake! Simon Lee makes the unthinkable happen. I worked with Judy from the get go, and she is just MARVELOUS. She was so helpful from the first consultation to the day of the wedding. I brought in some inspirational photos, and she took copious notes and really took my vision to heart. She copied my inspirational photo into my customer profile and sketched everything out so that I can approve. Very thoughtful and customer focused. She did both my wedding and groom's cake, and they were completely different concepts. Simon Lee also has the BEST flavor combinations. I drool every time I look at her filling and cake flavor sheet. We did three different cake flavors and a unique filling for each, one for each tier. Judy helped us pick the best combinations and let us try each. They use the best ingredients and their butter cream is so velvety- it's to die for! My cake turned out exactly how I wanted it the day of. I was able to rent one of her beautiful cake stands for a fraction of the cost. The sugar flowers are the best I've ever seen. They look so real and ethereal. The groom's cake took everyone's breath away and my husband was SO HAPPY! I will recommend Simon Lee until the end of time!!!!!!!!!

Are there premade cakes that we can just buy instead of preordering?

No, I don't think so. You have to order your cake in advance.

Nice intimate space with a few games and seating. I ordered the King Cake roll in honor of Mardi Gras. This roll is only there for a limited time. It was filled with cream cheese and topped with sugar sprinkles. Served nice and warm and literally melts in your mouth. I will say there was a bit too much cream cheese for my liking but I navigated around it. The roll is a decent sized and the fact that I nearly ate it all in one day lets you know how good it was.

It seems like they position their rolls more as a dessert, which isn't a dealbreaker. We came back later that afternoon after some meetings. The shop itself is simple and cute, with a wide variety of rolls to choose from. Honestly, it's hard not to want one of everything. We ended up ordering six, and I have to say, the rolls were delicious. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. We were greeted, but it felt cold and unwelcoming. After that, we were mostly ignored and ended up ordering through the touchscreen. There was a sign suggesting customers "ask about the secret menu," so I did. Instead of responding, she silently placed a paper on the counter and moved on. The interaction felt dismissive, like we were more of an inconvenience than paying customers. It's disappointing because the rolls really were great, but the service left a bad impression. They really live up to the name CRANKY granny's! As much as we enjoyed the food, the overall experience makes it hard to justify coming back.

Located in the corner of the plaza (next to the grocery store). Cute little bakery with a sweet older lady who speaks zero English but was nonetheless extremely welcoming and kind. She even gave my toddler a complimentary macaron. Sweet. I am usually pretty adventurous with trying new pastries/snacks and it generally works out well. Unfortunately, I did not like most of the things we took home that day (my husband agreed). A taro egg ball thing -- not fans. A gelatinous rice blob inside a bamboo leaf (believe it's called Zongzi) -- also didn't work for us. Finally, the beef puff (which seemed like a safe bet) fell short of expectations. It's my fault -- I ignored that part that said "beef floss." It had a stringy/processed texture that I just didn't like. I just wasn't a fan of the flavors/textures -- but obviously that's subjective. I did enjoy the garlic bread we also thankfully bought -- it was soft and flavorful. If you're not familiar with the foods, I'd recommend making sure you get a few "safe" items like the cream bread or garlic bread. Ultimately, even though I wasn't crazy about most of what I tried, it was a cute little shop with a nice lady running it.

While I love the ambiance, staff and selection, I was a disappointed with the cute, filled cake I bought. I've done a lot of baking and have some experience with different versions of buttercream frosting, and the frosting on my cake tasted like it was made mostly with shortening rather than butter. I know to get a white white frosting, shortening will often be mixed with butter, but the flavor should still be good, and this just wasn't tasty like I was expecting for a cake at the price that I paid. I will try them again for other items from the cafe, or cookies etc, but not another filled cake.
