I cannot find words for my reaction when I saw the wedding cake Fantasy Cakes created for my wedding. The scrollwork was amazing, and the green hydrangea was stunning on both the bride and the groom cakes. I could never have imagined how glorious the color and design would look with the interior of the main room at Laguna Gloria (and I thought it would look great). But the best part was that it was utterly, utterly delicious. The frosting was so decadent. The cake itself was freshly baked and perfectly moist. So many of our guests made a point of telling my husband, my mother, and me how much they loved the cakes, especially the bride's cake. (I will come back and post a photo of the cakes. Gorgeous!) In fact, the cakes were so good, no one really mentioned the dinner, which the caterer and I had spent a lot of time planning. Julie and Heike were delightful to work with. They made me two sample cakes when I first met with them, and when I asked her for a fork for "the road," Julie advised me to wait until I got home to relax and taste them. Well, I got to the exit to their parking lot before I had stuck my fingers into the sample bride's cake and was eating it out of my hand like a raccoon would. Delicious. After the wedding, the groom and I took the six huge boxes of leftover food from dinner and gave them to a homeless man on a bench on S. Congress on our way back to our hotel, but we refused to share the cake. We took the top (which we were supposed to put in the freezer and save for a year, I think) of the cake into our honeymoon suite and ate half of it. With our hands. Classy, right? read more

We ordered a cake for our parent's 40th wedding anniversary. It was beautiful, delicious and thoughtfully designed. The decorating design was very delicate. It was a cream cheese butter cream that looked like fondant. The cake was a lovely red velvet that was absolutely scrumptious and had a perfect crumb. We had been a loyal fantasy cakes customers for years! We ordered a cake Friday for a birthday and the flavor was not what we had told them what we wanted. We over looked it and figured mistakes happen. The next day we picked up a cake for my son's birthday--- had not seen cake. When we got home 5 minutes away from bakery we were very disappointed in what we saw... The cake had not been centered on the foil so it had damage on the side of the cake. The stars on the captain America cake looked like my 3 year old did it! I called the owner immediately to see if we could fix the cake. She said no because she did not hand it to me and was t sure if the damage was caused by her staff or us. I sent her multiple pictures of the cake's flaws. Iater on, we cut the cake and it wasn't the flavor we requested! Recieved an email the next day and their solution was "free delivery on our next cake since you live near the bakery" needless to say we will NOT be returning so declined the offer read more

I was definitely impressed by this little bakery, after tastings at 3 other cake places in Austin. They make a great-tasting cake, moist and fresh. They don't do anything too fancy, if you're looking for something like you see on all the cake reality shows these days, but they definitely have a nice presentation and are easy to work with. The delivery charge was reasonable, the cake was at our wedding on time and was presented well, and Heike and other staff members were fun and easy to work with. read more

Ordered a cake for my mothers birthday and believe me when I tell you it was nothing short of disgusting. It was the most simple of cakes being just yellow with chocolate icing, but not one person at the party took more than one bite! :( It looked really pretty (albeit small for the price) but it was horribly dry, gritty, and I took a bite of what tasted like pure flour. It was so embarassing and disappointing!!! I emailed them the next day to let them know what happened and I have yet to get a response. Stopped in earlier today to see about having Fantasy Cakes do our daughters birthday cake. We walked in, a lady came out and said hi, we said we were there to order a birthday cake. She asked for when and we said a week from today. She automatically shook her head and said there was NO way and they were booked for the entire month of December. Never asked what kind of cake, never looked at a picture. Heck, I didn't even have time to put my purse on the counter. It would be nice to actually see how simple or complicated something would be before you say no. OR, some sort of notice about being booked solid for the month and not taking new orders would have been great on their website or voicemail. read more

BIG MISTAKE!! My first impression upon walking in Fantasy Cakes was, "What is this place?" It doesn't even look like a bakery. At least add some fake cakes in your long empty display case and around the foyer area or something. Looked more like a dry cleaning establishment with a flapping curtain separating the front area from the back. The red-haired woman who I spoke with seemed like she wasn't even interested in earning my business. I wanted a small round cake with three small splatters of fondant around the top for my daughter's birthday for February 4 along with a dozen simple cupcakes, and she quickly told me they were booked with February weddings and didn't have time to do ANY fondant. Seriously? Not even three small pieces? C'mon. Seems like you're too complacent with your business to care anymore. Whatever happened to customer service? That's why I'm writing this review. Businesses like this one need to be called out. After all, without customers, you wouldn't even have a business. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO FANTASY CAKES. read more

I have used Fantasy Cakes in the past for many occasions. I have a young child which means MANY more birthdays and special occasions. Well, they just lost some repeat business!! IF you can get them on the phone or to respond to emails, and IF you can communicate with "Heike" without her giving you the run around, you MIGHT end up with a good cake for your event. I am new to the area and found myself needing a cake on rather short notice. I called a few bakeries and Fantasy Cakes was the first to get back with me. The employee was very friendly and was very patient as I tried to explain what we wanted and when we needed it. After I placed the order, I read the other reviews. I am pleased to report that not only was the cake ready for pickup as promised, I was greeted by Heike and she was excited as I was about the cake (my husband and I were finding out the sex of our child) and the big news. Not only did they deliver it to them they brought them cupcakes for accepting delivery on my behalf now that is great customer service. Just like the rating says "I've experienced better." After getting many recommendations from friends to go here for my daughter's first birthday cake I went in and ordered a butterfly cupcake cake. You would think a task as simple as this would not be that difficult, especially since I went in and placed the order at the beginning of March and the party was in mid May. The day of the party I went in at the scheduled pick up time and it wasn't ready. Truth be told, it looked like they had completely forgotten and just threw something together. It wasn't what I expected and to compensate they said they would give me a free cupcake. I was late to my own daughter's first birthday party and the friends who suggested this bakery asked me why I went some where else when they saw the cake. I've ordered 3 custom cakes from Fantasy cakes. The quality on the first two were good. They looked nice, were true to what I ordered and tasted good. But I was so disappointed in the third cake that I will not use them again. It was a custom cake and I had done lots of discussing and emailing back and forth about what I wanted, with the one specific request that a certain Mickey Mouse candle be placed on top since my 3 year old had seen and specifically requested said candle. When my husband went to pick up the cake not only was the candle not placed on the top of the cake, but there was actually no empty space on the top of the cake to place the candle without covering up a large part of the decoration. In addition to that the decoration fell short of what had been discussed and the design was not followed. A portion of the design that should have been placed on the side of the cake had been put on top of the cake where the candle should have gone. Hmmm, why is there a guitar on top of our Mickey Mouse Club cake? Oh, wait that's Mickey's foot, strangely contorted so that it is on top of the cake when the hand and the rest of the club house are on the side. Unfortunately my husband did not check the cake out before leaving, so we went ahead and used it, with Mickey candle placed on top of the offending guitar-foot. It did still taste good, but I was very disappointed in it's appearance. And with the price paid for a custom cake, I really should not be disappointed in the appearance. If you need a basic cake, you would probably be safe here, but otherwise, I wouldn't if I were you. read more
