One of the best up and coming restaurants in Fort Collins. Always friendly service, large variety of tapas/cocktails, great happy hour, nice ambience and even mouthwash in the bathrooms. They couldn't have picked a better location, lots of parking available, so there is no headache of trying to find parking (Old Town). If you plan on visiting between Thursday and Sunday, definitely make a reservation, as they can get full and fast. We've been here a couple of times and previously have enjoyed it. Went this morning at 11:30 am, they open at 11. Only one other table of four seated. First of all they sat us at a table that wasn't level and wobbled. Immediately our waters spilled. The waitress didn't seem to be fazed by this. We ordered coffee and it took 15 minutes for it to make it to the table. Not sure why since we we were only the second table there. When we finally received our drinks the coffee was cold. And they do not serve breakfast during the week. That was disappointing. Their menu is very limited as to what and when you can order breakfast, lunch and dinner. After 20 minutes of not even being asked for our order, we paid for the coffee and left. If the service remains this bad, this restaurant will not make it. We will not be going back, but we as there are so many other places to go in Fort Collins where you can get good service and good food. read more

I was taken to lunch there as a reward for cat sitting for a friend. We were going to get Thai, but he convinced me to try Simmer. He made it sound like a tapas bar, but once I got the menu I saw other options. We had chips and dip and roasted carrots with pesto as appetizers. The pesto was outstanding! I wanted to buy a pint and take it home. For lunch I had the chicken sandwich and my friend had the Hot Nashville Chicken Sandwich with salads. The blue cheese dressing was also very good and the sandwiches were too big to pick up and eat with your hands (tall). I cut mine in quarters and did my best to keep it from falling apart. The only downside was that it took a while for the main course to come out, but sometimes it's nice not to be rushed to get through a meal. The patio was shaded and cool. Went to Simmer, since it was so high on the Yelp list. Maybe my expectations were set too high because of that. The location is a bit weird we thought, right in the middle of a mall. The place was packed on a Friday (always a good sign), but was very noisy too. Table set up wasn't great. The food wasn't really great. Not bad, but just above average. This is a great restaurant with fabulous food and great service! For an appetizer we had the coconut shrimp and it was just fabulous! The best coconut shrimp I've ever had! For my entree I have the Jamaican jerk chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the Jamaican jerk sauce was wonderful! It came with asparagus and sweet potato but I substituted the cheddar mashed potatoes instead of a sweet potatoes. It also came with grilled pineapple. All of these sides were delicious! I will definitely be returning to Simmer!!! I want with a couple of friends to enjoy at lunch but I could definitely see this being a great date night restaurant. I went in for happy hour looking for some good food, but they do not have food on happy hour. While that was a little disappointing, the Brussels and bacon and house chips with whatever sauce goes with them were both delicious! Only two beers on tap, but right now they have two very popular beers - Odell IPA and Horse and Dragon Sad Panda. Can't go wrong with either of those. But I chose an Avery White Rascal which came in the can. Still good, nonetheless. Nothing to complain about as far as service goes. I'll be back to try more food and update my review. read more

Mashed potatoes were runny.The chocolate decadence was so sweet, way to much Carmel, couldn't even eat half.The only good items were the salads.We were there for over 2 hours, very slow service. Excellent Valentines Day dinner at Simmer! Started with Devils on Horseback and Jumbo Coconut Shrimp - both were excellent! I enjoyed a great ribeye, my wife had some very good butternut squash ravioli, and our son ate every bite of his Simmer burger (a rare occurrence for him). Finished the meal with chocolate mouse and flourless chocolate cake. The atmosphere was great with good decor and a cool illuminated red bar. Music was also on point and matched the quality and ambiance. Great experience. Will be back! Update... I am updating my review of Simmer as it has become my favorite place for brunch! Usually a crew of us walk over from Raintree Athletic Club on Sunday's after yoga or Body Combat and enjoy an awesome brunch and delicious Bloody Marys. The patio is amazing if is warm enough and inside is lovely too. The service is outstanding and they all know us as the "bloody crew" since we come in workout clothes and usually order the same thing! Lol! Their Palisades Peach menu this summer was amazing! All of their brunch items are so good and whatever you do, say YES to the sautéed greens! The executive chef is awesome and comes out to check on us sometime. My favorite with all of my dietary restrictions? Veggie omelette with potatoes and greens and an order of pork green chili to smother it. And of course a Bloody Mary! Wow! We went to Simmer with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Not only was our server Amanda fantastic (she had great recommendations and a wonderful sense of humor,) but the manager, Sheridan, was great as well. He made a point to check with us and at one point, after he saw us jokingly trying to split the last tortilla chip from our appetizer into four pieces, brought us 4 additional chips on a plate (haha)! While we all laughed about it, we agreed that his attentiveness definitely made our experience that much more enjoyable. The food and drinks were wonderful, I enjoyed the quinoa salad per our servers' recommendation and it did not disappoint. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and my wife had the filet cheesesteak. I had the Dunkel beer on draft and my wife had the winter cosmo. Hands down one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. The chicken was spicy but not too much. The steak was tender and well flavored. The beer was flavorful and smooth. Growing up in FoCO, whenever I'm back in town I'm always amazed with all the new stuff! This place used to be a Quiznos! Now it's an upscale, trendy lunch and dinner spot. Really fun atmosphere, and pretty busy for Tues at lunch. Quite an eclectic menu. My coworker and I split the brie and apple quesadilla, and it was decadent. I had the soup and salad lunch special with the butternut squash soup. Salad was made up with all sorts of fresh greens, and the soup was not really soupy. That's not a bad thing, it was just too thick to call it a soup. It was really good! I think they should have topped it with roasted pepitas, personally. The staff was friendly and attentive. Great date night option, but a bit pricey for lunch with only getting water. read more

Both were tasty and large enough to share. We've been here for lunch too when they have some nice specials. Usually love this place. It's our favorite place to eat. After eating brunch last week, I will always make sure I have one of two servers, make sure they are not busy, and not have Willow as my waitress. She neglected us, came to our table once at the beginning, and once 10 min after we got our food. We received our food cold, gluten free toast barely toasted (bread) and wish they would of offered to cook us a new dish instead of letting us get the check, and a box for the cold food. On the plus side, manager did Comp some of food, but I would of rather paid full price and have hot food remade than leave with cold food in a box. Build your own Bloody Mary was awesome and we will definitely come back for that again. I wish we would of gotten a chance to order another one. Don't be too enthusiastic or have too much fun going into this place, they'll quickly judge you and decide you've been drinking too much. We went in on a Saturday afternoon after having been at a CSU game. We left the game at halftime and decided to stop in for something to eat on our way home. My husband and I had each had a beer and a bottle of water at the game. We hadn't even been tailgating as we were running late to the game. When we got to Simmer and started to order a glass of wine we were told they were happy to serve us food but would not serve us any alcohol because we had already had too much drink! of course, we left. We came in with 3 people around 7:00 PM on Saturday, and they were almost full! So I recommend a reservation. It was an older crowd, more people 40-60 but I think that's the demographic that lives close. PROS: We ordered bacon wrapped dates (which were AMAZING, like the best I've ever had), lamb meatballs (also super good), and coconut shrimp (which were spicy, but still super good). The flourless chocolate cake was good, a little too much cinnamon for my fiance but I really liked it. The caprese grilled cheese was SO good. My sour fruit drink was good, not great, but good. The mojito was also good, just an average mojito. The old-fashion style drink was good and strong. The campfire cocktail had a toasted marshmallow, which was super cute and yummy on top. Our waitress was also very nice and helpful, and the other wait staff were very attentive, almost too attentive, asking to take our plates every couple minutes towards the end of our meal, but I'd much rather have too attentive than not enough. CONS: Our table was right by the window, by the bar. The window behind the bar was open, and it was about 30 degrees outside so my chair specifically was super cold, but I think it would be really fun during the summer. The table was also jammed in there, the two men that I came with weren't comfortable (backed up to another person or a wall). We ordered the blistered shishito peppers, which weren't cooked enough for me, normally I've had them cooked more and served with a dipping sauce, but these weren't cooked enough for me and had no sauce. We also got the ribeye steak, which unfortunately had little to no seasoning. It was just super average for a $27 steak. Their version of an old-fashioned is served in a glass similar to a martini glass, so it looked a little feminine to serve a whiskey drink in. The campfire dessert drink was way too strong for me, personally I like dessert drinks more flavorful than strong. The menu said it had hot chocolate in it, but it just tasted like bourbon. The restaurant is nestled between a Subway and Tokyo Joes in a strip mall so the feel is kind of weird, but nothing they could do about that. Inside, it doesn't feel like a strip mall. Our bill was $186 for 3 people, but we got a lot of food and drinks. I don't know if I'll come all the time just because it's pricier but it would be a fun date spot. I'll be back in the summer for sure to enjoy the patio and fireplace. Southwest Fort Collins is in dire need of restaurants so I'm happy to have this here. We will also make sure to stick to appetizers/small plates, since our entree steak wasn't the greatest. read more

Although we were seated immediately, everything moved at glacial speed from that point on. Three visible dining room staff seemed busy but disorganized. Menus took 10 minutes to come, someone taking our order was 20 more minutes, food (2 of 5 meals) took another 40 minutes. Oddly, when the first two meals were brought to our table, they asked "Is there anything else I can bring you?" Yes, our remaining three meals (which we had to ask about 10 minutes later). Turns out, they were ready - they just hadn't been brought out for some reason. And one of orders wasn't right. We noticed several other frustrated patrons as well. To be fair, they took a bit off our bill and gave us some coupons for the inconvenience. The food just wasn't great enough for us to give it another try, I'm afraid. read more

We've been to Simmer a number of times. My wife likes it, mostly because she orders a burger and anyone can cook a burger. I order off the Dinner menu and have never been impressed. Tonight I ordered the braised short rib for the second time, and the dish was worse than before. The short rib was too fatty and the mashed potatoes were cold. There was some odd green stringy vegetable added. This could be our neighborhood go-to restaurant, and we've tried to make it that, but the food is too uneven in quality. The guy who started the restaurant was named a wunderkind chef when it opened, but it turns out he wasn't. Not his fault. Perhaps he was too young for this project. The restaurant just doesn't work. Slider's and Tokyo Joe's are in the same mall and both have better food. And better prices. read more

This place is so freaking awesome! We had sweet potato and goat cheese dip with fried wontons, the Bucatini with chicken, the Bao buns with Nashville hot chicken and fillet mignon tips, and the brownie creme brulee. Everything was very flavorful, the chicken in both dishes was moist, so so good. It's pricey but it was a really nice date place. I plan on bringing my parents to try this place out too. Hannah, our waitress, was very helpful and loved talking about the food scene here in Noco. Like I said, it's pricey but worth the money. We just ate here for the first time. We had a fantastic dinner! There were 4 of us and everything was good. We started with the coconut shrimp and the Brie quesadilla. The shrimp has a serious kick but the coconut helps tame it slightly and that sweet and spicy combo is just right. The quesadilla was delicious as well. For our main course we had the salmon, the butternut squash ravioli and chicken and waffles. All of it was flavorful and delicious. We finished it all off with a yummy key lime pie and the donut fries. The key lime pie rivaled the pie from the Keys in Florida! The donuts were warm and perfect texture. Overall we had a great time. I happened to find this gem after a quick yelp search for a restaurant in our area for a date night with my fiancé. The atmosphere off the bat felt upscale while remaining relaxing and family friendly. We ordered the Brussels appetizer, butternut squash ravioli, and the bone in pork chop, and as a chef myself I found that not only the food but the staff and the experience in its entirety was phenomenal. As a scratch kitchen, the food came to our table in great timing with beautiful presentation. Our waiter was Kyle and his service was nothing short of phenomenal itself, and we could tell he does a great job connecting with his customers on a personal level. To find out the executive Chef is only 21, and boasts a full schedule outside of this, speaks to his talent and creativity as a Chef and proves that he is a rising star on the Fort Collins food scene. I give Simmer 5 stars for the food, service & pricing, & 21/2 stars for the ambience. 6 Of us went last Sat. nite, & sat 3 abreast facing each other. The house is very nicely appointed, but to speak diagonally across the table I had to raise my voice. I suppose that everyone in the room had to do the same. I was involved for over 30 years in construction working w/ acoustics. Acoustic wall panels & clouds would be a BIG help. Because of the acoustics I don't think I'll make Simmer my go to place, but I'll come back. I prefer places like Canino's where I can talk to my companions @ normal levels. In Simmer's defense, Bar Louie & the Blind Pig are noisier. read more
