Beautiful waterfall, very easy hike takes about 5 min walk! Will be a little crowded on weekends.

Today (Tuesday, June 18), my daughter (Janet) and I (her Mom) drove to enjoy a hike to Silver Run Falls. We never made it because, trying to park in a miserable tight parking area just off the road; my car slipped over the edge of the pavement and was stuck. I could not back it up. A kind man stopped to help, also with no success. He left to get boards and supplies, including straps to hook to my car and pull it out with his truck with my help in the car. When out on the road, I had to drive the wrong way to turn around and drive back. Much to my distress, he had left. I never knew his name or have a chance to get his name & "thank such a guardian angel" who cared, who stopped, and solved the problem for this widow. May God bless you richly. If anyone knows him near Cashiers, please be sure he gets this message. With much gratitude, Claudia & Janet Murray of Jamestown, NC.

Silver Run Falls is just four miles south of the charming mountain village known as Cashiers. It is a popular waterfall I suspect because of its very short hiking distance (less than a quarter of a mile on a very easy trail) and the large pool of water with small beach at its base. The waterfall itself is 25 feet tall on Silver Run Creek, which is a tributary on the upper end of Whitewater River. A bridge will lead you across Whitewater River on your way to Silver Run Falls. At this point, Whitewater River is barely a creek, but further downstream as its flow increases it becomes home to one of the largest waterfalls this side of the Mississippi... the mighty Upper Cascades which boast a 411 foot drop as well as the Lower Cascades located about 2 miles downstream from the upper claiming an additional 400 foot drop. Parking is somewhat limited. The main area has room for about 8 cars while a second parking area a few hundred feet south can handle another 4 or 5 PLUS another 5 or so can use side of the road parking across from the main lot. Be careful though, its not the most ideal place to park your car, but Jeep Wranglers will be right at home. ~ FINAL THOUGHTS Other websites say it can be very crowded on hot days and finding a parking space is dang near impossible without a long walk to the trailhead. Other websites also say it is a particularly spectacular waterfall in the winter months as ice formations add to its charm. While in Cashier, SlabTown Pizza is a great spot for a bite to eat and nearby Whiteside Mountain will give you amazing scenic views on its 2 mile looping hiking trail. Of course there is also Whitewater Falls as well as Gorges State Park if you want to make it a full weekend of hiking. Gorges has 3 amazing waterfalls on one trail. ENJOY!!! 2020 / 44

Silver Run Falls is beautiful at the backdrop of Cashier. It is a good place to be if you are around this area. The best way to time the exact location is to set you car mileage to zero at the intersection of highway 107 and US highway of 64. From there you set it mile pointer to 4.1 miles. The falls is about 200 yards to walk to. Easy walking for young and old. This falls has swimming hole that you can enjoy. Big pool after the falls. You actually can walk under the falls to get splashed by power of the water. It may be different experience if you did not swim in it. But I did. Pool has deep end where you cannot stand on the ground and the shallow beach. It was great to explore the river down stream. The flower was blooming at end of May. It make this place majestic. I cannot tell how is it look like during winter or falls. But summer is the best time to visit. I was visit right time with swimming experience. For the people who did not swim in it will not be the same rating.

This waterfall is very beautiful and easily walked by anyone! Short walk to the falls, if you are not watching you will miss the sign...there is not much parking at all. If anyone else is at the falls it's hard for you to get your picture with out them being in it. But very worth going to see!

The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

This was highlighted in "Our State" magazine, I think last year but I could have saved the article from the year before, but this was one of those items on my "local" bucket list to see. I love the Shadow of the Bear in Cashiers! The "Shadow of the Bear" is visible for 30 minutes daily (on sunny days!) between 5:30-6:15 PM from mid-October through early November as the sun sets behind Whiteside Mountain between Sapphire Valley and Highlands, North Carolina. It's best seen on clear days around 5:30 p.m., with the show lasting for about a half-hour. The photos below are from 2022; I'm pretty sure we'll visit again this year. PS I agree with Ginger L. that the camaraderie with all the people standing on the side of the road to watch is an experience in itself. A note of caution, to view the bear, you park your car on the side of a road hugging the edge of a mountain and people crossing the road that has a curve around the mountain so use caution while driving through the area and walking along the road!!!! But its all worth the view!!!

A nice ramp down all the way to the water. Seriously, you could wheel a wheelchair all the way into the lake. The sand is very nice. And you can easily swim out to and hold onto the barriers. There's a dock off to one side where you can fish off of. We'll thought out and done pretty well. They even have donated life jackets for kids hanging here at the beach! My reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars: Dogs. The path down to the beach was littered with dog poop. On the path, on the side, everywhere! It was gross and unsanitary. Don't know if dogs are allowed on the beach, but they've turned the park area to crap. The beach is quite small. I do believe too small to support all the parking. The beach is very steep. I know it's the mountains, but if you're going to drain the lake and make a beach, a gentler slope to the beach for the little ones would've been preferable. A larger swim area. Some people just want to swim! Maybe another 10 feet out into the lake for swimming, not just waking.
