I had a great time here!! I know most reviews are outdated so I am happy to give recent insight. The prices to me are decent, $45 for adults and $35 for kids over 3. They also have a season membership. Note that the daily pass also requires purchase of either a locker, cabinette or cabana. The cabinette is a small closet almost, with a shelf bench and are located near showers. Reservations are required and are recommended a week in advance to ensure availability. We were fortunate to scoop up the last availability with a cabinette and in truth, we didn't even use it. You're able to bring your own food, drinks etc.. though there is a cafeteria that offers a prevent decent menu and the food was quite tasty in my opinion - we had the chicken tenders, wings, fries and calamari. The place itself is pretty old so don't expect any modern touches. The women's bathroom was clean ( can't speak for the males) and entry includes access to all three pools; a kiddie splash pool, an adults only pool and a family pool that includes two slides. Both the family and adult pool are huge- especially the family pool. You are also right on the beach which is a private area, Given that this is NY, obviously don't expect any clear water but the staff go out every morning and clean the beach to make sure there is no debris. I really appreciated that given that my kiddos love to play in the sand, it definitely put my mind at ease knowing I didn't have to worry about any sharp objects. If you get there early enough you're able to use their poolside chairs which are great for tanning. They also have showers and a sink near the beach entry to assist with cleaning off. They have a sweet tiki bar and a stage right across from it which is located between the two pools. We were fortunate the enough to be audience to a live band that played some hits and had the crowd going, especially my little tot! All in all I would absolutely come here again, there weren't many people, no one was rude, it was all a very pleasant experience that allowed you to forget you were still in NY haha. read more

Great social environment. Has three pools, -Adult only pool-a family pool with water slides-a kiddie pool. A jacuzzi. A lovely Tiki Bar with water views. A cafeteria. Such a fun environment. Steps away from Ocean beach area . Great staff, from office staff, lifeguards, maintenance and cabana people to help set you up, especially if you are impaired. The overall concept is great but management hasn't put a dime into the place so it has become old, battered, and filthy. The restrooms are disgusting as is the cafeteria. Will be contacting the parks department to see how they can allow these folks the concession/ management of this place while driving it into the ground. Must be extracting all the cabana revenue and putting it in their pocket- because they are not putting it into maintenance! A real shame because it's a nice place. read more

Why waste your money on this "exclusive club" way out on the edge of the Rockaway peninsula, when you can just go to the rest of the miles of beaches for free nearby. They offer a lame restaurant with crap food, tiny over priced cabanas and two pools that are usually over packed with kids. It is just not worth it. Skip it and go enjoy one of the many free beaches NY has to offer. read more

I agree with the previous comment. I have been here numerous times under a guest pass. The place charges way too much money for EVERYTHING. Membership, guests, food, drinks... There are 2 deep pools and 1 kiddie pool. The bigger deep pool has a diving board and water slide. This pool is usually filled with kids, while the other pool has the older folk swimming and chatting. The cabanas are really small and crappily built... You may as well just travel here with your car as they do anyway with the normal beach items and find a spot on the many miles of FREE beach. Sure I understand, parking is difficult to find, but get yourself the fishing permit from Gateway to risk getting a parking ticket. It's probably cheaper than the membership at this stupid place. I've been coming to Breezy Point since I was born. My family always just picked a spot farther down the beach between Riis Park and the Silver Gull Club. We bought a little outdoor shade tent and sit on a bed sheet with our wonderful feast. read more

I went to the Silver Gull Beach Club with a friend and found it to be delightful. We rented a cabana for the day (they offer day passes, $30 per adult and $20 per child) and enjoyed the beautiful and quiet private beach (cabana rental Is required for day visitors-$80). The beach was impeccably clean and the lifeguards were very attentive. After some glorious time on the beach (which is very close to the club, so you don't have to walk very far), we retreated to the cafeteria where we enjoyed tasty sandwiches and burgers and then spent the remainder of the day at the various pools. The children's pool isn't heated but the adult pool is via solar heat. There is also a cute kiddie pool for the youngest children. There isn't that much shade immediately near the adult pool, but there is an area very close by with tables with umbrellas. The Tiki Bar was closed when we went but may be open other times. The staff was very helpful and friendly and gave us great information about this charming, vintage club. The club is a mix of older retirees and young families. We went during the week, so the crowd may be different on the weekend. The only reason I gave the club 4 stars rather than 5 is because the rental cabanas could stand to be updated or at the very least, just cleaned out at the beginning of each season. There was a rusty razor (like a daisy razor) in our cabana and some seashells which must have been left by the previous user. Otherwise, the club was very clean (including the bathrooms) and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go back. It's not an inexpensive day to go as a non member, but it's a lovely, quiet little gem in Queens! read more

I generally don't review, but I thought the other reviewers were off. Yes, the club is expensive, but even at their prices it's pretty well attended, and the cost for a whole summer is less then you would pay for a week-long family vacation. No, the food is not especially good, prices are typical, but if you forgot to bring food it is good to have the onsite dining as an option. Some people like the dinner menus, I'd rather think ahead and order take out, area restaurants will deliver there. We have a cabana with family. Having access to a shower and a fridge makes it possible for us to stay at the beach for an extended day, usually breakfast thru after dinner (most kids leave in PJs). And, we don't have to pack and drag stuff (food, coolers, chairs, towels, umbrellas, toys, etc..) every day. There is an 8 week camp for the kids (ages 3+) M-F from 12:30 - 4:30, which is included in membership. My kids love the camp, and I love sitting on the beach for 4 hours without them. They meet other kids at the club; they are well supervised, do fun things (DJ, puppet show, crazy hat day, pajama day, halloween in August, etc..), make friends, etc.. There is an adult pool (adults only), a family pool with 2 water slides, and 2 kiddie pools (1 on the patio, one in the daycamp area). Two of the beaches are supervised by life guards. There are a lot of fun activities, both run by the club and organized by the people on the cabana courts. There are bands that perform there weekly, exercise classes daily (not on Friday or Sunday), a gym, a spa (I have not tried), card games, book clubs, tennis, mini-golf, swings/park area, paddle board courts, etc.. My mom has problems with her knees, until she joined the club the beach was not accessible to her, which was something she missed. Also, she loves the people she's met at the club, she keeps up with them in the off season, and looks forward to seeing them again in the summer. For people that utilize the club it's a great value. Incidentally it's very crowded on guest days, so those days are probably not the best or most accurate representation of the club. BTW, gates open at 8, pools open at 10, it really is LOVELY 1st thing in the morning!! read more

Irresponsible management, The Staff are all incompetant no one calls you back to take care of business. They pass the buck along you never talk to a manager, My friend had an issue with getting a deposit returned. It took 3 months to resolve. No one returns your call the manager in never available. There are few places left in New York that multi generations can enjoy a great facility, nature and each other's company. Recently taken over by new management, long term club members are seeing much needed improvements in the facilities physical structures. What needs no improvement is the friendliness of the general atmosphere and the spectacular location on a beautiful beach. Club members never have a parking issue (no small thing at Rockaway Beach). Accommodations range from lockers to just store chairs and beach gear to cabanas with private showers and 2 lounge chairs. No it's not fancy and over 50 years of being perched at the oceans edge has worn the 2 story structure (upper and lower accommodations) But this place offers a great break from city heat with a 1950's vibe, non pretentious, working people enjoying a great summer and building friendships over decades. New York is lucky to have this available and if you love a pool and ocean experience in the same day Silver Gull is fantastic. Summer camp is free for the children of members. Tipping the counselors is optional but standard among parents. Members are mostly from Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. It is very difficult to get to the club without a car. There is a great ferry that goes from Manhattan to Breezy Point but it is too far to walk to the club from there and taxis do not generally meet the ferry. Prospective new members can call for an appointment for a tour. If you can look past that it is not a hipster crowd, or a plush facility you can really have the kind of shared summer paradise that shown in The Flamingo Kid, filmed here in 1984.
