It's not an express but it's not the G train. It hits many stops but doesn't linger at them. Someone you might be willing to spend a few extra minutes on the trip in exchange for getting a seat, and the 1 makes that choice relatively painless.

The reality is despite all of its downsides it is generally the fastest and cheapest way to roam NYC. Apple maps makes navigating the MTA transit system a breeze. This was not a social visit and most of my business was in Queens. However, I needed to get a vital record and for that I had to head into Manhattan. Having nothing else to do till I got the death certificate, I decided to make a dry run to figure out where the place was, how to get there, and make sure i could get back to court on time the next day. I was lucky in that I was not heading here during commute times so it went smoothly. It is right under city hall with easy access to the Brooklyn Bridge and other spots in that area. The station was large and as with most on the dirty side. However, its a major hub so there are lots of trains and connections are easy.

He scanned our ticket and we boarded. The bus was pretty full, so we ended up sitting separately. The above head storage bins are kind of tight, so I had to take something out of my over stuffed backpack to manage to wiggle it in. While my purse sat on my lap. I liked the foot rest and the hook on the handle on the seat in front of me. Trash bags were hung here and there. Looks like they also provided small bottles of water for us, though we had to grab those ourselves. The electric plugs didn't seem to work, but perhaps the ubs plugs in the ceiling did. Our driver was a great communicator. He set expectations so we knew that we had a 20 min rest stop before arriving at Baltimore, and pointed out things to help us to pay attention and to get back to the right bus. He warned us that given current construction that we were sure to arrive later than what our tickets said, and gave us his best eta given the circumstances. Another passenger later commented that the bus bathroom was clean. We kind of ended up being dropped off on a brightly painted bridge in the middle of no where - perhaps on Maryland Ave?, by a bus stop. A short walk from Penn Station.

Great way to stay dry if you work in the area during the winter or the rain storm and have to get from the train station to Path/Brookfield Place, etc. Various exits will lead you to where you need to go, but one should know or have to figure out which exit to take or ask someone. Escalators in the Fulton Center will lead you to certain trains - mid-level is the 4,5 and lower levels are the rest. Follow the signs. The Fulton Center Station also has Dunkin and other eateries where you can purchase snacks and food if you need to grab a snack before you head to/from your destination. Also, refill your Omni card now that Metrocard has been retired, or just tap your credit/debit card to pay.

Also sometimes the train is packed when the previous station is Broad Street, the last stop on the J train. So why is the J train packed with no seats at Fulton?!?

Occasionally, there are NYPD police presence on the platform which fends the illusion of safety and security for New Yorkers during turbulent times for rash of hate or bias assaults. There is no token booth, no one for customer service, and seldom NYPD available, however it is anything but grimey (that's Ebonics for dirty) and the four kiosk are always working but please be advised some mornings these kiosks do not take dollar bills. This exit is well lit and clean. The murals are a stationery to the culture of working class people and youth that attend neighboring schools that access the A/C trains daily. 4 stars because the MTA tore down our Token Booth. Welcome to Bed-Stuy.
