invisible ferry dock! (too recent for Google)
    Jorge G.

There may not be adequate phrases in the English language full-throated, earnest, and impassioned enough to describe how stellar this new Brooklyn ferry service is. Let me be the first to proudly hail it. You can now take a public ferry boat from southern Brooklyn to lower Manhattan. With pick-ups all along the Brooklyn waterfront getting there. Yes! At long last, what everyone's been waiting for! Folks, if you know my reviews, you know I rarely praise anything in New York. But this is an unqualified success. It is spectacular. It is a godsend. You know, transportation activists have labored for years to turn this sublimely commonsense idea, into reality. There was always an existing pier sticking out into the water from Bay Ridge BK--a neighborhood long-suffering from the lunacy of having only one train line in-or-out. I refer of course to the cramped, insufferable, ungodly 'R' transit train. No other alternative except the Belt Pkwy. For years, all of southern Brooklyn has thus stood marooned, filled with land-locked business commuters. So, why not add ferry service to this pier? Hello, y'dopes! Help us out! In modern-day New York, this is always how things are in Brooklyn. Our complaints were always marginalized. Only now, after clamoring ourselves hoarse for years, do we finally get this fantastically OBVIOUS transit option that should have been instituted a DECADE ago. Well. Now it is finally here. They built it. And it is superb. Against all doubts; against all incredulity. Now, (6:30am to 1030pm daily): a perky little 150-seat, twin-engine, blue-and-white ferry-boat, putters up to the 69 St fisherman's pier, toots its horn, and you buy your ticket and hop on. Just $2.75! And then this cheerful little vessel hauls ass up the East River. It's a catamaran design and it rooster tails like a bat outta hell. The wharves and docks fly by. Stops at Sunset Park, Red Hook, BK Br Park 6 and then DUMBO (Fulton Ferry landing) under the Brooklyn Bridge itself. And then across to Wall St. Total time 37-43 mins. What more can you ask? The ferries themselves are quiet, and clean, and new, and very simply-designed. It's a no-brainer. You just walk in and sit down. Rarely crowded. There's a snack bar inside and beer/wine available. The crew are mostly chipper young kids (but polite!) and the pilots are no-nonsense. They stay on sched! Every 30 mins or so, back-and-forth to all these waterfront points; chug these little boats. The difference between this fun boat ride to work every day, vs MTA train or MTA bus? Heaven vs Hell. Bliss vs torture. Ecstasy vs agony. The difference between traveling like a prince, or scurrying underground like a rat. Salt air! Sea breeze! Sky and clouds and sunshine! People, get behind this concept. Get aboard with it. We have to keep this service. Start riding this ferry. Ride it daily. It is brilliant; they are doing it right; and we need to keep it around. PRACTICAL TIPS: Pay close attention to the schedule. Although a ferry is light-years ahead of MTA's buses/trains in terms of reliability; the ferry company is still 'adjusting' its run-times. Tickets: the ferry does not accept MTA metrocards. Minor drawback. They accept cash or credit via machines. There's some kind of pay-by-phone option but I don't know anything about that. (Why would you trust a 'ticket' without a piece of paper?)

Nice sheltered dock w/ fare machine, electronic display and benches.

Fun on a beautiful Summer evening. Strict and reliable schedule. Booze on board, with both wine and beer on tap and a variety of small convenience store snacks. What more could you want? The same price as a subway ride $2.75

We approached and asked to buy a ticket and they mentioned you can't buy tickets from them. You need to buy the tickets out front. We ask where is out front and were pointed to a general direction. We ask for clarification and were told "look, look" with a finger pointed in a direction. Alright we decide just to walk down and after a bit we saw a couple of people line up at a machine that was beside a store. We may have missed it if there wasn't a lineup. We buy 2 tickets, which I have to say was a really reasonable price and head back to the line. We jump in line and notice the times for it were a bit later. We head back to info to ask if there's a schedule for the ferry or if anything would come before the departure time we saw. They told us we could line up in a second line and the ferry should be there in about 15 minutes. It's not obvious each of the lines which direction the ferry is going. We lined up and hopped on the next ferry in no time. All this to say, the ticket machine is out front by the store before the pier. If you're not sure which line you should be on, ask the staff, they're pretty good with which ferry you need to hop on and good luck!

From the moment we boarded, everything felt well-organized and welcoming. The staff were friendly and efficient, making the check-in and seating process smooth. The real highlight, of course, was the view. Seeing the skyline from the water gives you an entirely different appreciation for the city's architecture and scale. Passing by iconic landmarks while listening to the live narration added a lot of depth to the experience. Our tour guide, Andrew, was especially knowledgeable about the history of the city--he shared fascinating facts, stories, and context that really brought each landmark to life, all while keeping things engaging and easy to follow. The boat itself was clean and comfortable, with plenty of space to move around and take photos. Whether you prefer sitting inside or enjoying the open-air deck, there's a good spot for everyone. I especially appreciated how unhurried the cruise felt; there was enough time to soak in each sight without feeling rushed. I'd highly recommend the Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise to both visitors and locals--it's a relaxing, informative, and scenic way to see the city from a whole new angle.

Aaah yes, taking the ferry home on a Friday that also happens to be a prematurely warm and sunny not-quite-spring day. The ferry is too expensive to be a part of my daily commute. Comparing the $5.50 ride from World Financial Center to Jersey City (Paulus Hook) with the $1.75 PATH ride between World Trade Center and Exchange Place, you can see why the ferry is the Rich Man's PATH. Or, the poor man's cruise ship. Even the ferry terminal at World Financial Center is luxurious, at least compared to a PATH station. It's floating, and has a little balcony on the water where you can soak up that precious March sun while you wait for your ship to come in. It even had a nice clean bathroom, if you can handle the motion of the ocean. The PATH can't compare. The ferry ride takes about the same amount of time as the PATH ride (7 minutes from WFC to Paulus Hook). But unlike the five minutes you'll spend on the PATH, you can feel the salty wind in your hair, and the sun on your face, unless of course you get the boat where the upper level has been enclosed. But, still, you can pretend your itinerary takes you to somewhere more exotic than your average PATH stop... maybe Venice. A tourist you're not, but remember that some people travel far and wait a lifetime to glimpse these sights... the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Colgate clock, the tallest building in New Jersey, the tallest building in New York, cruise ships and tall sailing ships, all that and you can be home in time for dinner.
