Not at all aware the 2 takes an outdoor and elevated route, I was thrilled to absorb the panaromic views from two stories above. So this past Monday I was on the 2train headed uptown and upon entering the train, I noticed a BIG square something in What appeared to be a gray laundry bag. I looked around to see if anyone has noticed it. Of course everyone had their faces in their phones but i believe they were aware because no one sat anywhere near it. I felt very uneasy about it n so I made it business to walk down several cars to inform the conductor amd I showed this pic. You almost can't avoid this line while in the city that never sleeps. Conveniently, there's an express line connected to it to get you where you need to go with less stops on the way. Goes up to the Bronx and all the way to Manhattan which makes it a definite necessity. Sure, rush hour sucks but there's very little pockets of time where New York is not crowded. This city runs on public transportation and the metro system here works pretty flawlessly in comparison with other major cities. Its usually pretty humid down in the terminal but the cars are air conditioned and even provide WiFi to keep you entertained. The metro cards are refillable in the entrances and make it easy for locals and tourists alike to fill funds on their cards and explore the boroughs that make this city one of the best places in the world. read more

I take the 2 train every day for work from Brooklyn to the UWS to Dumbo and back home. I love that I've never had to wait more than five minutes for a train. My only beef is that rush-hour is a pain in the ass because you're usually breathing down somebody's neck while someone else is breathing down yours. I use it semi-regularly Atlantic Ave to/from Flatbush Av/Brooklyn College usually when getting to the Target Brooklyn/Flatbush Junction or when signal problems force an alternate route home. The train's never too packed even during rush hour/peak despite the narrower gauge 1/2/3/4/5/6 lines' cars. Skipping the 2 train's lower Manhattan slow poking many stops is a mental relief especially when it on off-peak skips a lot of stations the 5 train full times at. The platform at Atlantic Av is kept very well, likely due to the many MTA staff stationed at that large station, and the riders are fairly good and reliable as the areas' mostly residential middle-classing Caribbean residents with a sprinkling of others. The line time reliability is generally quite high and even better as they continue service during winter events which burden the above ground lines. Train conductors are typically helpful, the MTA train staff do work hard and well despite all the management problems for which they're unfairly blamed. All in all, a great line reflecting the city's diversity and spirit. read more

As soon as it reaches Jackson Ave in the bronx - There's an obvious drastic decline in the way it runs, it typically diminishes in service/quality/ and speed. It only runs well in manhattan & on the weekend where the 2/5 are " supposed to" run .. they dont! The 5 is like a unicorn... you hear about it but never see it and the 2 runs infrequently and usually with a disorganized bumbling shuttle bus service to attempt to replace the train. Pretty sad because the crappy service deters people in the bronx ( especially with children) from coming into manhattan on the weekend. It defintely makes the thought of going to the bronx ( if youre not already stuck in that hellhole) for anything unappealing. The weekend is the time traditionally when we should be enjoying shows/events NOT lost ,waiting for shuttles and limited service. read more

THIS TRAIN IS CRAZY! If you ride this train, you will see the most interesting and weirdest people on earth. I prefer riding the 5 train instead of this train any day, and that's the reason I transfer from the 2 to the 5 at the earliest stop possible when coming home from school. If it were not for school, I wouldn't even touch this train. I remember one time when I was on this train and this lady was on the train was acting nuts. I mean she was a pure psycho. She was talking about some nonsense, and she screaming at everyone that wasn't listening to her story. She had me cracking up, because she was not making no sense. The year was 2000. I was making my way from Brooklyn to my office in Manhattan. It was a Saturday. Yes, I had to work on a Saturday, and that sucked. The 2 train cheered me up. Here's how: The ride from Bergen to Chambers was uneventful, but a very interesting passenger boarded my car at Chambers. I did not know and do not know if this human was a man or a woman. S/he was about 6 feet tall and his/her body was just like a very large ball. Kind of like a bowling ball on chopsticks. S/he was wearing a skirt, but s/he also had fairly hairy legs and some facial stubble. On his/her feet were construction boots; s/he had long, braided hair; and s/he was carrying a child-sized pink, semi-clear backpack. The backpack was stuffed with papers, and a pair of hockey gloves were hanging from the side. S/he was holding a toy stuffed monkey. Do you have a visual? Good. The train was not too crowded, and when this interesting homo sapien got on the train, everyone noticed while pretending not to notice. S/he walked the length of the car and sat directly opposite me. Between her/him and the next passenger, there was enough room for two more people. The interesting passenger placed the backpack on the seat next to her/him, placed the toy monkey on top, and slammed the backpack into the side of the woman next to him/her. The woman said, "Excuuuse me!" The interesting passenger replied, "No! Excuse me! Excuse me! Make room for the monkey, B*TCH! MAKE ROOM FOR THE MONKEY!" We pulled into Union Square, where I had to transfer to a 1 (or, in those days, a 9), and I exited the train. I did consider staying on the train. To this day, I regret not doing so. read more

I rely on the 2/3 train to commute from the financial district to midtown. It is usually pretty clean, and the trains are very frequent. About half of the trains are very old and need to be upgraded. I take this train most regularly one stop over into Brooklyn Heights. It's great and reliable, even if it is an IRT train (interchangeable with the Lexington Avenue 5) with a narrower footprint than the BMT or IND trains. I love that it's an express; I love the stop that goes from 42nd street to 72nd street--and not just rush hours either. I haven't taken it into the Bronx, or maybe I'd be giving a whole different review, but for my money, this is a good, reliable, fast train. read more

This is my least favorite train thus far because I use it often but in reality, it is merely adequate just like most of the other trains. The people asking for money are generally disabled and nice and less annoying. They also ask for food. I'm far more willing to share food than I am money. People play their music loudly. School children are obnoxiously loud so avoid from 2:30-4:30. read more

The 2 always seems to have its fair share of crazies (well here and the A). They are very interesting, to say the least. Fake bible thumpers, beggars, street performers. But hey it makes for a good laugh and it's NYC, damnit! The train is okay. Mostly on time. Stops alot between 96 and 42 due to "train traffic ahead of us". Would rather take the 5, but it's all good. - 1 for maintenance. Mad whack. In September, when construction is over, I'll see if you deserve a rerate. I've been riding the two train since before I could remember. Its usually clean I guess because I get on it within the first few stops. Anyway I think this train is a show on the go. I mean seriously I've see a magic show, a concert, break dancers, beat boxers, and poets perform here. I'm also able to get metrocard holders, candy, and the latest bootlegs! I typically take the 2 train from Franklin Ave to the last stop (Flatbush Ave) for work. If I'm going into the city, I take it from Flatbush to Time Square. It's usually on time, especially in the morning and follows the schedule listed online. I never have a problem with it being crowded, but that's mostly because I sit in the last cart of the train. Yes it gets crazy around rush hour, but what train doesn't? Yes there are ghetto ass kids that cause a ruckus, get loud as hell, and make you feel bad as a black person (if you're black), but that's Brooklyn trains for ya. You'll get the homeless people that beg for money, and people that entertain you for a quick buck - but that's just like all the other trains going into and out of the city. I like the train because it lets me know the stops - as opposed to the 3 train that's still an old model and has the train crew letting you know thru the speakers each stop coming up. My problem with that is that they're never loud/clear enough to understand, especially when there's announcements. All in all, can't complain, gotta love it... read more

Since I live near the 2 & 3 train, this is the train I take the most since I live in Harlem and I'm in the Bronx quite often. It takes as long as 12 minutes in the evening hours but it still gets me to where I have to be. Sometimes it's delays are annoying but I've gotten used to me. I love the 2 train overall. I'm typing this as I'm sitting on the 2 train right now heading home from the Bronx. read more

My favorite part about the 2 train is when it's August 5th 98 outside and a humidity level that makes you question why you live in New York and when you get on the first car it smells like 3 month old fermented urine that someone accidentally spilled so you move to the next car and that one has some sort of diarrhea blast on the side wall. read more

From the train operator arguing with the automated next stop messages due to construction ("don't listen to the stupid computer") and informing people on the platform that various trains they might be waiting for wouldn't be showing up for a couple of days... to the random mariachi experience that occurred somewhere under the upper west side for the exact duration of one stop... you've definately won a fan. I love the 2 train, it's very fast, convenient, and frequent. I take it from Chambers to 96th street, and it cuts my trip time in almost half. The only issue is that it can be very, VERY crowded during rush hour, someone's pits will be in your face, someone will be breathing on you, smelling someones horrible breath, etc. But it is fast so you'll be free from that nightmare in no time. read more

the number 2 train was my the regular daily mode of getting to times square from the bronx during my youth via my preteen and teenage years. the number 2 train starts or ends at the 241st wakefield station and ends or starts at the flatbush station in brooklyn , from end to end it has 49 stations and i am glad i did not have to visit them all. its part of the a division on the i.r.t line that runs via broadway/ 7th ave in manhattan. from the pelham parkway station (my starting point ) to times square takes about 40 minutes or less with no delays .most of the time i would nab a seat but other times standing up looking out the window as the train is flying by the elevated tracks looking down below at the depressing south bronx. along with the 5 and 4 train lines its one of the most used by commuters from the bronx to manhattan and beyond . good memories during my public transit riding years but glad i dont have to it any more . read more
