I took the Long Island Rail Road into Woodside and the transfer could not have been easier. The bus stop is right there off Roosevelt Ave, basically under the 7 train station and right near a Dunkin, so there's no wandering around trying to figure things out. What really stands out is how straightforward the whole process feels. No weird detours, no unnecessary stops. You get on, it moves. Within just a few stops, the bus jumps straight onto the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and from there it's a direct shot to LaGuardia Airport. I was there in about 20 minutes, maybe even less, which is kind of insane considering it's New York and you're heading to an airport. The fact that it's free just makes it even better. No metro card swipe, no extra cost, just get on and go. For once, everything worked exactly how you'd want it to. It's efficient, easy to find, and actually fast. Hard to say that about most things transit related here, but this one delivers.

It's a free service serving Terminal B and Terminal C, and takes you to the subway station at Roosevelt Ave/74th Street where you can catch multiple subway lines such as the E, F, M, R, 7. I found plenty of signage at Terminal C today telling us where the pickup/drop off area was. Busses run every 6-10 minutes. Bus does get crowded and takes around 20 minutes or so depending on traffic to get to the subway station so standing might be an option.

NYC Transit Authority I can't believe I haven't reviewed…read morethe Transit Authority. I love living in the city because I don't have the expense of owning a car. I take the subway and ride the bus when I'm going somewhere more and more often now that I'm aging. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer to walk everywhere the way I did in the past. The technology has really improved purchasing my Senior Citizen Metro OMNY Card. I don't worry about running out of trip money because it is automatic load using my credit card. Today I saw the Transit Authority Emergency Response Vehicle outside my station on East 96th Street. I know they are close by in case of emergency and I often wonder what's going on at my station. You may not agree with my Five Stars but I've lived other places and it can be extremely difficult to get transportation (even a cab) if you don't have a car. I'm glad I live in NYC with a great transit system.

Coming from the Bay Area where we have to deal with our terrible transit system known as BART, I…read morefound NYC's subway system a surprisingly pleasant change in comparison. While I'll preface this review by stating that my experience with NYC's subway system is rather limited in scope, not being a New Yorker, I found the subway system leaps and bounds better than what we have here in CA. Reliability: I hear a lot about how the trains are consistently late. But having spent all of my time in Manhattan, the trains were arriving every 2-5mins during normal work and commute hours. So I never found myself waiting around for overly long for another train to arrive. AC: Seems like most of the trains that I got on had working AC's, which is quite the blessing in summer. Especially if the train is packed. This is in stark contrast to our local BART system, which has working AC's 50% of the time. Cleanliness: While the subway stations themselves are certainly very dirty, with no shortage of rats running around the tracks, the inside of all of the train themselves that I rode in were all pretty clean, and I did not feel uncomfortable sitting in any of the seats. This compared with BART seats which are all questionably stained, dirty, and always smell terrible. Safety: While I understand that NYC subways experience their fair share of homelessness and individuals of questionable mental stability, and even I experienced a few during my short trip to NY, I definitely experienced a lot LESS of these individuals than I do on a daily basis in BART here in the Bay Area. Aside from 1 isolated incident of a crazy person on a train one evening when coming back from Times Square, I never felt particularly unsafe. One should of course still always be aware of their surroundings, stay away from the tracks when waiting, and keep your possessions close to you. Convenience: NYC's subway system, although not the biggest in the world, certainly is the largest system in the US, and it shows. It's incredibly convenient to be able to travel to all parts of the city, utilizing just 1 system. While in Manhattan, just make sure to heed the signage stating Uptown or Downtown, to make sure you're not traveling in the wrong directly. Fare: At just $3 per ride, regardless of exit point, the fare is incredibly affordable to utilize for daily commute, or just exploring the city. And for regular riders, a 7-day or 30-day unlimited fare is also offered for even more affordable options! I've never experienced a subway system in the world that only had a flat fare, regardless of distance traveled, but it was certainly welcome, and substantially cheaper than a trip locally here on BART, where a 1-way trip from the East Bay to SFO would run over $10. I know NYC's subway system is certainly far from perfect, and New Yorkers have their fair share of complaints about it. But in comparisons to what we have here in the Bay Area, it is by far better in almost all aspects.

I use the App Hop Stop which can tell you exactly step by step which buses/subway/walks you need to do in order to get to your final destination. I headed down to the baggage claim/ground transportation area and there is a kiosk where you can buy a Metro Card. You can either by it with time usage or $ amount. I just put $10 on it. Walking outside I probably waited for the bus for 2 minutes then took it through Queens. The odd thing is that they don't announce any stops! Luckily I needed to get off on the last stop which is right in front of the Roosevelt subway station and I took the F to Chelsea. Trip Breakdown: - 30 minute bus ride - 25 minute subway ride - 10 minute walk to my hotel = 1 hour from LGA to my hotel in Chelsea I would say take the bus if you're not in a hurry. It was only $5 total vs a cab being between $25-$40 depending on traffic. ALSO if you have lots of luggage this may be a pain in the butt- particularly on the subway. On the bus there was a luggage rack.

He scanned our ticket and we boarded. The bus was pretty full, so we ended up sitting separately. The above head storage bins are kind of tight, so I had to take something out of my over stuffed backpack to manage to wiggle it in. While my purse sat on my lap. I liked the foot rest and the hook on the handle on the seat in front of me. Trash bags were hung here and there. Looks like they also provided small bottles of water for us, though we had to grab those ourselves. The electric plugs didn't seem to work, but perhaps the ubs plugs in the ceiling did. Our driver was a great communicator. He set expectations so we knew that we had a 20 min rest stop before arriving at Baltimore, and pointed out things to help us to pay attention and to get back to the right bus. He warned us that given current construction that we were sure to arrive later than what our tickets said, and gave us his best eta given the circumstances. Another passenger later commented that the bus bathroom was clean. We kind of ended up being dropped off on a brightly painted bridge in the middle of no where - perhaps on Maryland Ave?, by a bus stop. A short walk from Penn Station.
