I've visited The Rockaway Hotel twice for the Winter House pool day pass, and both experiences were fantastic. The staff is consistently friendly and accommodating, which really makes a difference. The drinks are well-made and delicious, and the heated pool paired with the sauna creates such a relaxing atmosphere. The pricing feels reasonable for what you get, and the food is overall very tasty. A few menu items could use a bit more seasoning, but nothing that takes away from the experience. This hotel offers day pass options which are nice for a spa day & for pool access. First time around we got a Day pass & got lucky during July 4th wknd. U check in by the pool, chairs are first come first serve, u do get towels. Drinks they have a frozen Aperol spritz which was great, nice & frozen perfect for a warm day. On the food we tried the Beachside dogs, it's 2 mini NY style hot dogs they were good comes with Chips not bad. Order of fries were decent nicely cooked , not greasy. Next time gave the Winter pool pass a try & what a difference! Pool is Heated, same deal after check in this time u get towels & a Robe. Once settled inside we headed outside to the Pool perfect because the pool was nearly empty not so perfect because it was a cold, add a windy day & the time spend outside is limited. Nice hot saunas to jump in for some added warmth. Drinks we tried the Warm me up Toddy first the Cazadores tequila reposado & the Captain Morgan spiced rum , nice & warm, good on the Alcohol. Also tried Angry orchard cider, not bad. Summer months the pool gives off a Beach club type vibe, u have good music playing & for the most part people are just hanging enjoying the day. Winter months, the pool could be 10-15 degrees hotter, a sunny day helps but the wind tends to limit your time outside. The day pass is a nice way to treat yourself to a little staycation, small pool area outside more lively in the summer versus nice & quiet in the winter. Good service, price wise on the high side for drinks, doable overall since u are paying for the vibe & comfort of the hotel. Whether u visit in the summer or winter months either way u are sure to have an enjoyable time, it does make u feel like u are on a mini vacation. read more

It's kind of hidden gem that there is a DJ on weekends, (DJ June is the best !) also good for group and for special occasion . What should have been a simple champagne toast to celebrate an achievement turned awkward due to unprofessional handling of a situation involving a janitor and the receptionist. Took my wife for her birthday for a couple days. It was May 19th and 20th of 2025, the weather wasn't great so we didn't use the pool, even though it is heated. Check in was smooth, the front desk personnel are the best, we got a welcome drink of champagne. We took our bags up to our room, very cozy, in both the good and bad ways. Our room wasn't big, but they do have bungalows that I wasn't able to see. They have a spa on site, I'll review that separately. The front desk even let me store leftovers as a courtesy since the room didn't have a fridge, I thought that was really nice of her. The lobby smells nice, the on site restaurant Margie's is a convenient option for food, and the boardwalk is a couple of blocks from the hotel. They've tried to do what they can with limited space obviously but I'm sorry the spa was kind of awkward overall. My friend and I both had the same woman for our treatments and we each said she was kind of abrasive and all over the place, confusing instructions. Treatment itself was pretty good but so many awkward moments that took me out of any chance to actually relax. We added day passes for the pool which I've used before during the winter. The pool itself is lovely and saunas nice and hot. That part was nice. Aside from the kids doing cannonballs in the pool at one point. I don't mind kids at the pool but one of them literally told me "you might want to watch out" before he dove next to my head. Super zen. You would hope that the staff who are poking their heads out every ten minutes and clocking everyone would do something about that but I guess they're just looking to see if you took more than your two allotted towels or something. Took a while to order food at the pool house after sitting there a while but it was very good and waitress was nice. The part that really killed us honestly- very awkward and uncomfortable to walk from the spa THROUGH the lobby to get to the pool and vice versa. A staff member even stopped me and asked if I need help as I'm leaving the pool walking through a packed lobby at 3 pm because a wedding was going on. Omg I was cringing. Misc stuff - "locker rooms" are two small closets and I cannot believe that they're mixed gender? If I had been in there with a guy I would have been beyond uncomfortable. I could be wrong but that was impressions we got from signage. Wish there was more than one shower too and vanity area for getting ready. But again I get it limited space. Just felt a little bare bones to me. Might come back for the pool again one day but probably wouldn't do a spa service again. Has potential but misses the mark unfortunately. read more

This hotel is very beautiful. It has a very clean, relaxing, earthy, artistic vibe to it. Although I didn't stay at the hotel, I did reserve a Winter Pool House Group pass for 4 people ($200), on the Resortpass app, for my sister's birthday. The pass granted you access to the pool, saunas and pool house, where you can sit as a group on their reserved couches. It was a cold and gloomy day but, we really enjoyed our time relaxing in the heated pool and the sauna. From the pool house, you can order food and drinks from Margi's cafeteria. We ordered the charcuterrie board, truffle fries and a few round of drinks. The truffle fries were delicious, and I'm not a very big fan of truffle. The charcutterie board had an assortment of different cheeses, meats and these interesting little capers I've never had before that tasted like olives- and were delicious! The drinks were made well and I found the pricing to be fair. Although we loved our experience, things to take note of. The pool house does not have a real changing room. They only have a bathroom with 2 stalls that can be used for changing into your swim gear. There are also no showers to rinse off at after using the pool or sauna. There are only 2 saunas available directly from the pool which sits about 8 people each comfortably. There is no locker room to store your belongings in but, there about 8 lockers (with no locks) and a small hanging rack that you can hang your coat on by the bathrooms but, they are unattended. I will definitely be returning in the summer and checking out their rooftop. It has a beautiful view of the City! read more

4 stars easily for this stay. Hubby and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago because we had my cousin's wedding at Russo's on the Bay. We both knew we didn't want to drive home as the wedding ended at 1:30 in the morning. One of us easily would've been sleeping on the ride home whereas the driver would've been struggling to stay awake. So we said let's just stay the night. The room was nice but definitely smaller than our stay at TWA hotel. The safe in our room didn't work. Thankfully we didn't need it but had we needed it we would've contacted the front desk. But the shower was great and the view of the ocean was beautiful. The bed was super comfy and we loved our extra perk of 12pm checkout because we checked out around 11:45am. It was glorious not rushing out of the room. There were only two snafus with this overnight stay: 1) The parking is not fun and a block or two away. Thankfully we could see that the truck remained in its spot since we parked and could remote start it via app. Also when hubs went to get the truck to get me and the luggage he couldn't get out of the gate. Thankfully I was waiting with our luggage cart and had to tell the front desk he couldn't get out and they were able to let him out from the front desk. Initially the other girl at the front desk told me we had to pay but I told her we paid upon booking and showed her. She then apologized and opened the gate for him. 2) We took Ubers to and from Russo's and found out at checkout that they could've taken us to and from Russo's on the house with the courtesy car they have. Live and learn and we already made a mental note of that if and when we need to come back. I wish they had told us that upon checking in because they knew we were there for a wedding at Russo's because 1) we saw my aunt (MOB) and 2) my hair was in an updo. Will we back? Perhaps? Beautiful hotel, beautiful rooftop. I recently met friends for drinks at the hotel's rooftop bar. The server was attentive and the cocktails tasty. I also ordered the crispy rice w/ spicy tuna and it was delicious- my only complaint is that it wasn't served with chopsticks. The views are stunning of the bay on one side and Atlantic on the other. The crowd was mixed - some locals and some people traveled from afar - ages were mixed, creating a nice balance. There was a private party off to the side and the DJ played a mix of good music. Ended up here under sad cancelled flight circumstances and left wanting to bring my family back to experience it! Such a beautiful property with so much to offer. I wish I got his name but the gentleman working late Sunday night was one of the best customer service reps I've worked with, he went above and beyond to upgrade me to a gorgeous suite to get some shut eye before trying to get to the airport again, helped with guidance for getting out in the morning, and topped it all off with a glass of rose. He made stress turn into something positive from a terrible day of travel. The hotel itself is like beach chic decor, very clean and modern. They have a great restaurant on property. Rooms were clean and spacious, I lucked out with a Bungalow that was basically a 2 bedroom apartment with a cute little balcony. The beds were super comfortable. I wish I got to explore the rest but makes for another reason to come back! They had tons of great amenities which I would have loved to check out. Let me begin by saying that I believe in hotels. I believe in freshly ironed sheets, bellhops who call you "Miss", and rooms with a sense of aspiration. I do not believe in spending over $500 for the privilege of staying in what amounts to a glorified dorm albeit one with better lighting. Which brings me to The Rockaway Hotel. Let's set the scene: we pull up at 9 PM. Emmanuel, the valet, greets us like he's been training for this moment his whole life. He's gracious, warm, and genuinely seems to enjoy the job--possibly one of the only people on staff who does. Ten bucks to him. We immediately thought - this is going to be a great place! Now, the lobby: gorgeous. All moody lighting and curated textures. It looks like someone went to a branding agency and said, "Make it look like we sell $18 cocktails and complicated emotions." Mission accomplished. It smells like sandalwood and startup culture. So far, so Goop. Then we get to the front desk. The staff looked like we'd interrupted a quiet moment of existential dread. Not rude. Just emotionally... dimmed. Like someone had pressed the hotel's hospitality setting to "low power mode." They looked at me like I was insane for asking if they had a gym. Spoiler alert: THEY DON'T. It was 9 PM, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. But if I'm paying $500 for one night, I'd like at least one person to pretend I'm the main character. We get to the "room", open the door and immediately check the floor plan because surely this is a pre-room, a vestibule, a stylish holding cell for the real thing. But no. This is it. This is the $500 box. It's tastefully decorated in that vaguely coastal, hyper-minimalist way that suggests "serene simplicity," but feels more like "Oops, no one ordered furniture." There's no closet. No dresser. Nowhere to put a bag except the floor and a few wooden pegs that seems less like storage and more like an art piece. There's no complimentary water. Not even a decorative carafe pretending to offer hydration. Just two aggressively chic bottles of water for $10 each, staring at us like: You knew what this was. We bought them (insert eye roll emoji). We were sunburnt, dehydrated, and emotionally vulnerable. There were two sad pillows on the bed (as in ONE pillow EACH) the kind that seem filled with recycled Kleenex. So we did what resourceful people do: we removed the cases, stuffed in the decorative throw pillows (bless you, down feathers), and fashioned ourselves something that at least resembled comfort. No phone in the room. Everything felt vaguely damp, as if the room itself had been out surfing and hadn't quite dried off. The beach is a block away. That's the whole business model. The next morning we took the complimentary bikes out for a spin on the boardwalk and, honestly, it was fantastic. For a minute we were two happy people on vacation. We came back to the hotel glowing--literally sweating--and the morning valet watched us struggle with the door while scrolling on his phone. Possibly looking at photos of people on better vacations. We held the door. We held our tongues too. We had breakfast by the pool. My frittata was unmemorable in a way that felt like a decision. Just sort of... like someone made food with the idea that you're too hungover to care. My husband had the french toast - he LOVED it, but he thinks my cooking is great, so... Our server was gem. Sweet. Gracious. We bonded over her Fabulous nails. Oh, and the pool itself is beautiful. It makes promises the rooms can't keep. When we checked out, our friend the phone-loving valet was still... phone-loving. My husband literally placed the valet ticket on his screen. He retrieved the car with all the enthusiasm of a teenager taking out the trash. He opened the driver's door--and walked away. Didn't help with our bags. Didn't even close the door. It remained open, flapping like a metaphor for this hotel stay. The Rockaway Hotel is a case study in style over substance. You're not paying for hospitality. You're paying not to stay in one of the other local options that look like places people disappear from. This hotel has everything but the basics: no warmth, no amenities, no logic. It's trying very hard to be "a vibe," and forgetting that people are actually staying there. People with bags. People who need water. People who want two pillows. Each. Here's a simple fix: train your staff. Buy some decent pillows. Give us hanger. Throw in a bottle of water. And for the love of all things beachfront, act like you want us there. I won't be back. We recently stayed for two nights at this hotel spa looking for a relaxing weekend, and unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations--especially given the steep price tag of over $650 per night. We had hoped for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway, but what we encountered instead was a lackluster stay with very few redeeming qualities. It rained all weekend, and while the pool and beach are beautiful, there was nothing else to do. Other than the restaurants, no indoor spa-like atmosphere or relaxing communal spaces to helped us make the most of the rainy weather. It didn't feel serene or luxurious--just dull. We found ourselves having to leave the property just to find somewhere to pass the time since the rooms are small and basically you only have the bed to stay in. The balcony is not useful while there is pouring rain or you have really bad weather. Additionally, the service was far from what we expected at this price point. While staff weren't rude, they were clearly undertrained and lacked the polish and attentiveness you'd anticipate from a hotel in this price range. It often felt like they were new to the job or part of a more budget chain, which only added to the feeling that this property does not deliver on its promises. We were unable to call the front desk and room service is not an option, we tried to use the app several times but there are no phones and the app had no menu or options to order, and any messages we sent were acknowledged over 1 or 2 hours later and we just found ourselves having to get dressed to go to the front desk or get food. The overall atmosphere was also surprisingly underwhelming. It felt more like a party destination suited for a sunny weekend crowd rather than a tranquil or high-end spa escape. If that's the kind of getaway you're looking for, perhaps it works--but if you're hoping to unwind and enjoy a more peaceful experience, especially during inclement weather, this is not the place. Overall, we left disappointed and frustrated that we had chosen this hotel for what was meant to be a special weekend. For the rate we paid, we expected thoughtful amenities, higher service standards, and an environment that could still offer comfort and enjoyment--rain or shine. A day at the pool at rockaway hotel.... What a perfect Sunday. We reserved a cabana for ourselves, some friends and my younger sister and her boyfriend. Ohhh boy did we have a great time. We got there very early 10am, and got our spot and order a light little breakfast. The food looked good i only had a coffee.... FYI no alcohol till 11am (pretty standard just figured is mention it). As the day went on the pool got busier and i must say all the people were so much fun to hang out with. All walks of life and all getting along wonderfully, totally my type of place. We ordered a bunch of beers, a bottle of tequila and a bottle of vodka. We were having a great day. Light music was playing although we had a speaker which we kept down for us to hear and it was all good. We ordered a ton of food and let me tell you we had not a single complaint. We made a bunch of friends young and old and it was just an amazing Sunday. We all cant wait to do it again. read more

The Rockaway Hotel and Spa is nice BUT ... there are several issues, especially very cold rooms in the middle of winter with broken heat! The hotel looks close on a map to JFK but it took nearly 40 minutes to get here and that was the best of conditions (dry clear road, no traffic). And then at least some of the rooms don't seem to have working heat. The room I was assigned (which is a very small room - only big enough for a bed - and one small stool - no chair, and not really any place to work )- was 63F (!) - and I hoped it would warm up. It didn't - so I had to sleep in a very cold room and it was too cold to shower there this morning. There's also no tea/coffee provided in the rooms (you can request a hot water kettle but you only get that - no mug, no tea bags, etc). I called the front desk about getting the heat fixed. I waited and waited and someone came by eventually (very slow to come by) and then nothing got fixed and the room was still very cold. So then I requested to switch rooms - which the staff did work out. And that room had the same heating issues!! So, I called again (no phone in the room by the way - have to use your cell phone) and they said they'd send someone - but after an hour, that person still didn't come. Room is 63F!!! So I'm just spending the time in the hotel lobby and may even have to sleep in the lobby too if they can't figure out a solution. And no amends made for the inconveniences. This review is ONLY regarding the Spa. The hotel seems nice and chic but I did not stay overnight. My massage was painful and not at all relaxing, I waited forever to have a nice massage and some rest. I did not get to nap and left with incredible pain. The massage therapist said I had a lot of tension in my back and she needed to work it out. Every time I pulled away or said ouch she'd tell me "no no you need this let it go" Jesus what I needed was to rest and be massaged, not tension beaten out of me. Save your money I paid $200 with a discount and left needing to recover to get a massage elsewhere. The check-out receptionist notice I was paining so she discounted my massage $20 but discounted or not I wouldn't go here for another massage even if it was free. 0 stars but the hotel is cute. The Rockaway Hotel is truly an amazing place to visit overnight or for the day or for an evening on the roof! Get on the ferry from wall street from NYC, it takes you right to rockaway peir and the hotel is a block away. Everyone is so so nice you feel like you're miles away from the hustle of NYC. Every guest is treated so kindly and the food and drinks too are spectacular. Shark bite, heat wave are two of my faves. Every employee is stellar, manager Margot, Meghan and Riley at the bar, Tom by the pool, PJ and Terrance to name a few awesome people taking care of you during your stay. If you want to be transported and have an awesome day visit the pool bar for some lunch and cocktails then head up to the hotel rooftop for sunset city and beach views. But the best is to stay overnight especially when they have one of their summer series concerts. Run don't walk!! It's honestly NYCs little secret escape...... I kind of don't want to blast out how amazing it is because I want to keep it a hidden gem! But everyone really should know about this great spot. You're welcome!!!!! read more

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and outrage following an unacceptable and deeply violating experience at The Rockaway Hotel on July 6th, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM. As someone who has been a loyal customer for months, frequenting your spa and pool and always receiving excellent service. I was completely shocked by the treatment I received from one of your valet staff members who identified himself as "Paul." Paul is a tall white male who, at the time, was wearing an orange and red floral shirt with Jean shorts and a black hat. After paying for my valet service at the front desk, I proceeded to the valet area to retrieve my vehicle. I handed my ticket to an older Black gentleman who appeared to be having difficulty locating my car key. When I politely asked if everything was okay, Paul who was not part of our conversation interjected in an unprofessional and confrontational manner. He asked me if I was "having a bad day" because I was "giving off bad energy." Taken aback by his inappropriate comment, I calmly asked for his name. He responded with "Paul" and then immediately escalated the situation by telling me that I was "irrelevant." Understandably upset by this insulting and disrespectful statement, I replied in kind. Paul then walked away to retrieve my car. As I spoke on the phone with my boyfriend, explaining what had just happened, Paul sped around the corner in my vehicle and stared at me. When I walked over and took the keys from his hand, he asked if I had paid. I reminded him that he had just witnessed me hand the stamped, paid ticket to his colleague. He then proceeded to verbally abuse me, calling me "classless" and continuing to berate me in a hostile and aggressive tone. My boyfriend, who was still on the line, heard every word and was equally horrified. As well as my friend who I had invited to join me for the day . I cannot overstate how humiliated, disrespected, and unsafe I felt during this experience. As a young Black woman, I have never been spoken to or treated in such a demeaning and aggressive manner by someone in a professional setting especially at an establishment I have supported and recommended to others. I will no longer be giving my business to The Rockaway Hotel, and I will be using my platform as a social media influencer to bring awareness to this incident and warn others about the conduct of your staff. Additionally, I plan to contact news outlets and other public forums to share my experience. No customer should ever be made to feel the way I did violated, disrespected, and diminished. I hope The Rockaway Hotel takes this matter seriously, as I will be pursuing all avenues to ensure accountability and justice. read more

I came here with my fiance to celebrate my birthday and our engagement. When we checked in we were given two sparkling wines and the check in process was easy. I need to feminine products and they gave it to me free of charge. Then we went to the room and the room was nice with a nice smell to it. I honestly thought they were going to decorate the room because i said we were celebrating birthday and engagement. However, when we went to margies the hotel restaurant they gave us complementary prosecco. The manager pj was very nice and he even gave us a tour of the hotel. We got a couples massage at the spa as well as part of the getaway package. The masseuses were very good with my fiancé and i. We got pampered and then we went to the infrared sauna. To be honest the spa was smaller than expected. However, the massages were nice and they give nice robes. The pool area seemed nice also but unfortunately couldn't enjoy due to the weather in march. I recommend coming here in the summer. Overall, the hotel was nice but it was awkwardly located next to a school and its not beach front like I thought. After spending 48 hours in queens central bookings for some nonsense I needed a 3 hour shower and a comfy bed, so I decided to go to Rockaway hotel. I discovered at checking that I accidentally booked bunk beds on Expedia lol. The lovely front desk lady with the infamous ny accent ask me to see if I could change it on Expedia, so I gave it a solid 2 mins to realize that's a dead end. I will give u some tips and you will have a better stay than we did. First of all it is 40 mins from laguardia airport but 1-2 hours from the city!! Once we got in our room, no closet, no phone, no gym, no iron, no refrigerator and it was hot in the room bcuz the heater was on and I sleep with the air conditioner on, I'm from Texas! Lol So the first night I was so tired to walk to the front desk to inquire about those missing items. My boyfriend had bought us some fruit from the Walgreens that is walking distance, but it went bad bcuz of no refrigerator! The next morning I asked the ppl at the front desk, they have all those items you just have to ask for it when you check it. Here is the good part. They have a spa on-site, I got a 50 mins massage, it's really nice and well worth the money. The property is very clean and large. They have a bar/restaurant on the first floor, it was lit, a lot of ppl was in there on a Thursday and Friday night. They have a roof top bar and restaurant. The views are amazing during the daytime at night you can't see the beach. Customer service all around was very good. Oh they offer valet parking but there are plenty of free parking on the side of the streets. If we stay a next time, we definitely won't leave the area and we will get all those items at check in. read more

A friend and I got day passes to lounge around and relax with access to the pool and sauna included. When we entered there was a bit of confusion with where we should check-in (we went left to the spa, but we really needed to head straight back to the front desk). When we checked in at the desk we were each given a sunny yellow and white striped towel and a luxurious robe. The restroom doubles as the changing room and is a bit small and not very comfy for changing. I assume this design predicts that most people using the amenities are hotel guests and would change in their hotel rooms. The pool is heated and the saunas accommodate 4 people, though we were comfy just sharing the space between the two of us. There are three or four saunas so it can be tricky figuring out when you can actually use one of them if there are a few groups of people at the pool waiting. Overall it was a good experience and I'd go back. P.S. I looked up those robes because I love them so much and wanted to buy one for my home. They're about $100/each, which should give you an idea of how nice they are. read more

We stayed here for my daughters birthday so that she could swim in the heated pool. The pool was clean and they even had drink service by the pool. The hotel was clean and comfortable and we each got a robe to use while we were there. The receptionist was friendly and accommodating. We had dinner at the restaurant attached and the food was great. My only complaint was that they do not offer spa services for anyone under 16 (my daughter is 12) and that was something she wanted to do. Overall it was a great experience. read more

Visited the hotel during the summer. Aesthetically, the hotel is well designed. Restaurant on ground floor, heated pool with a bar, and an upstairs rooftop with a bar. Rooms were small, but comfortable, clean and a splash of luxury. I only had one problem. I used bike #1 and the chain came off twice on the boardwalk. The kid in me, remembered how to put a chain back on but my hands were caked up with chain grease. I get back to hotel and ask for some grease remover. Manager says he will tell the porter to get some. By this time it is nighttime, so only one porter. The porter was kind of dragging around(after being told by mgr), so I approached him politely and asked if he is going to get the degreaser. He tells me to wait he has to clean the pool first. Say what? Now I am at the half frustration level. Five minutes still no degreaser and the porter is chatting up a female patron near the outside pool bar(which is closed already). Now I am at a loss for words, upset and now I make a stink but not too much not to alarm the other patrons. Just enough to let the staff know I am MAD. My hands are full of grease and I hv been in the lobby unable to go to my room for 15 minutes and nobody is moving to rectify. Finally, porter, almost reluctantly, gets me the hand degreaser. That situation blew my mind. All that aside, hotel is dope and I would visit again. Just don't use bike #1 if you use their complimentary bikes. read more

Staff was nice but not genuinely customer service and friendly at all. For being a zen hotel with spa type atmosphere, I was not feeling the love. I have an Esa dog and they would run out and tell me I have to lift my pup up and carry through common areas. The rooms were pretty and common areas very relaxing with fur and pillows. Swimming pool and saunas looked inviting but they are outside (with heaters) but I was tooooo cold! Great location across from a great bagel place and walk is. Lose to the beach! Roof top bar is super nice overlooking the water! I just wish it had been more dog friendly and felt more calm. Ps park on the street plenty of spots -don't fall for sales pits of valet parking and just make sure you read signs for street cleaning days! Way too high of a price! read more

There are things to love and things to feel bummed about here. The yoga and fitness classes are first rate. The pool/bar area is great. The overall vibe is nice. The staff on the roof are locals that are loud and unprofessional. If you come early you get the unfortunate experience of listening to 7 inexperienced young people prepping and planning and chatting like you're not there. If there is even 1 person here they should be more professional. Maybe they would benefit from a field trip to any other hotel roof that charges these prices to learn more about the level of service that they could be capable of supplying. read more
