I cannot believe I've lived here for 6 years without coming to Silver Diner. It's a local institution, and for a reason!!! My husband had a bison burger that he says he would give 4 stars, but I went straight for dessert and had a plant-based minty milkshake which was AWESOME. Also, I love love love LOVE all the vegetarian and even vegan options on the menu. I mean, how often do you get vegan milkshakes?! Plus, breakfast all day, which is always a win in my book. I haven't been to a diner in ages and decided to stop by Silver Diner! I remember going as a kid but totally forgot what it was like. I ordered the build your own burger and an oreo shake. The burger was cooked perfectly and it tasted very fresh. The bun was nicely toasted and wasn't soggy. It was surprisingly big in size which is great for the price! It came with a side of fries and let me tell you.. they are one of my favorites! Having been to many fast food and chain restaurants, the fries here really stood out because of how crunchy they were. The shake, on the other hand, was good but nothing crazy. They do however give you a big portion. After giving you the milkshake, they also give you a cup of the leftover milkshake that couldn't fit inside your cup. I thought that was super interesting since a lot of other places would just dump out the rest than give it to you. Overall, I had a great time revisiting a childhood diner. Loved the place for 25yrs but now it's even BETTER! New chef-focused menu and locally-sourced ingredients are top notch. Classic diner fare is excellent as always. The old bay fried shrimp were particularly excellent. I've been to this location multiple times and it's always 4-5*s (as are their other locales). My go tos are usually the crab cake platter or the BLT, both of which are filling enough you probably don't need dessert (tho I've had that there too). I was there earlier this month and besides doing some backlog reviews today I wanted to mention when we were there, they had some outdoor seating which was new since the last time I'd been there. Weirdly(?), it seemed to have its own hosting station so I guess you have to decide before you get inside if you want to sit outside. I didn't do it but if they don't sync with whichever is faster that seems sort of lame. As is, I am neutral about this but if it gives them more space and people like it, go them. Nice to see trial and change of this kind. The other thing I experienced for the first time (negative) was on checkout the server did not take our cards away but instead brought a device to us. He told us the total (it was not shown that I saw, tho you could get a receipt after) and as well you had to do the tip in the device right in front of him. I felt super pressured to do this and did not like this at all. In hindsight I probably should have left no tip and left cash, although it then is the onus of the diner to bring cash. Why pressure your customers this way? My dining friend told me that they had seen this other places as well as it's becoming more popular. So...maybe a negative overall comment but for now, I've only seen this here. One other thing worth noting is they seem to change their menu a lot...maybe it's not a lot and just seasonal but I always seem to struggle to find even the common dishes I get in the menu. There is apparently a special chef at least in this restaurant so that might be a boon tho for me it's a minor pain. Still none of that keeps off the 4*s. Will be back! read more

This is the coolest little diner. It make you think of the 40s. Like the movie Grease. Super cool ambiance. The food was amazing. I literally ate a ton. We went on a Thursday so we were able to get the special. I had humongous pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee and OJ for $11!!! We had 8 people and EVERYONE THOROUGHLY enjoyed their meals. Our daughter liked her pancakes and my wife liked her southwest turkey sandwich, but my cheesesteak sandwich was dry and lacking flavor. The roasted vegetables consisted of brussel sprouts, potatoes, and diced beets which were bland and way over cooked. The service was less than average (some servers yelling at other ones). I was surprised to see how extensive the menu is and just as I remember you can order whatever you want whenever you want except for the few menu items that are only available until 11am. The coffee is decent and is easily drinkable with no cream which is a plus! I opted for the breakfast sandwich which consisted of a egg cooked hard, like hard hard so I know it's cooked, turkey bacon and white american cheese on a toasted english muffin!!!! Can you say tasty!!!! So so delicious and filling all the same. I love me a good potato and those home fries hit the spot!!! Nice and crisp on the outside and full of soft potato on the inside!! It has been over five years since I had a meal at a Silver Diner and based on today's breakfast I will frequent the place more. This Silver Diner is a great example of that which is so irresistible about Silver Diner. That when one patronize SD you get good food, great service, fantastic decor, all for a reasonable price. The interior, like most SDs, was very clean. The old time jukebox with the playlist and speakers at each table is one of my favorite things about the entire chain. While eating and conversing I also grooved out to Motown, Jazz, and classic rock. Our server, Ms. Tanya, was very attentive. The entire staff was very pleasant and seemed to support one another in serving the customers. The menu has really changed at SD from even five years ago. Now the focus is on healthier choices sourced from responsible more local purveyors. I had the basic pancake breakfast with chicken maple sausage and two eggs sourced fresh from local Amish farmers. I added a side of roasted hash brown potatoes. Each was truly satisfying but the eggs and hash browns were excellent (eggcellent). I would return just for those. The pancake was good but a little too dense for me...although I scraped the plate clean. I left full and very happy. I will update this review when I try the lunch and dinner offerings which, like breakfast, are served all day. The choices are a bit overwhelming but that is a good "first world" problem to have. Nice job Silver Diner. I have so many fond memories of bringing my son to the one in Greenbelt, MD every Friday for like a decade. We had breakfast here right before a soccer tournament game. $60 for breakfast for three people is a little too much but is that is what things have come to. My daughter got the French toast. I got the American favorite, which is just two eggs, half a cup of cubed potatoes +a biscuit + two pieces of bacon + 2x cups of coffee and third breakfast was eggs and chorizo.
