This diner is pretty decent, but nothing spectacular. My wife and I were hungry after shopping, so we gave them a shot. We were able to snag a table for the both of us even though it was busy. The place looks like a 50s throwback complete with individual jukeboxes at yout booths. Our waitress was very attentive and displayed great customer service. The menu had some diner classics from pancakes, to sandwiches, etc. Some of the items were not just your typical diner food. I decided on a grilled cheese with bacon as my lunch. It was kind of small for a sandwich with not a lot of cheese. The jam on the side was really good with the sandwich. They were okay at best and were good for getting a much needed meal. read more

We pulled into the plaza to eat at Friday's, but made a last minute decision to eat here instead. I am so glad we did. My husband really enjoyed the steak, and my son liked the grilled cheese and fries. I got the a western omelet which came with home fries and a biscuit. The omelet was fantastic. The eggs were really creamy and tasted so good, and it was cooked just right (I hate it when omelets are overcooked, this was perfect). The potatoes were simple but really tasty, and I don't know how they make the biscuits but they were a little crunchy on the outside, and sweet and soft on the inside. It's a nice place to eat with the family, my son likes to play with the cardboard truck and the jukebox. The menu is modernized with different traditional diner and contemporary dishes. What a disappointing breakfast- this was my late father's fave place when it first opened some 20+ years ago, so when my siblings from the West come to town we inevitably go to "Daddy's favorite place"- it was HIS spot to meet for family breakfasts. Today's family breakfast required a table for 9. Greeted by sticky/ greasy menus placed on a poorly cleaned table my discomfort grew as we were served very sporadically...too warm milkshakes, cold food, came in spurts with gaps so long that half the table was finished before the other half got their food- I was given a complimentary "free entree " card by the apologetic manager (surprisingly because I never complained). I will give this card away- no way do I want to go back- that's how bad the food & service has been the last few times we've gone- if I were to suggest another visit to my husband he'd emphatically say NO THANKS! I miss this place because my father loved it so much- but not enough to face the frustration of the last 4 visits in the last as many years. I'm sitting here with a half eaten plate of food with no desire to finish it. It was my third time here. I keep wanting to give it another chance. Third strike today though. This place tries too hard to be a foodie version of a diner. I am a foodie and I like diners. This does neither well. Lunch was always disappointing and more expensive than the value we got. Today we did breakfast. It is a diner. A diner must get breakfast right. It is the essential thing. One of my eggs came out with just the yolk (nearly no egg white). My sons eggs came out cold and severely undercooked. My husbands bacon was burnt more than any bacon I've ever seen. My chicken sausage was literally the worst sausage I've ever had in my life. Terrible flavor, tough, dry, and lukewarm at best. My husband didn't believe me when I said it was was the worst sausage - thought I was exaggerating. I gave him a piece and his eyes got big - also the worst sausage he had ever had. My daughter spit it out it was so bad. The shining star of the meal was our server. She was sweet, saw some of the obvious issues with the bacon, the egg, and the fact my order was plated with potatoes instead of grits. She did her best to make it right without us asking. She gets the star in this review. The diner itself needs to spend more time getting the basics right. In the least, a diner should be able to get eggs, bacon, and sausage in good form, and these weren't even edible. read more

If you are looking for a greasy spoon, cheap, diner, this is not your place. The Silver Diner is a healthy diner/restaurant with a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. I've been several times and my personal favorite is the quinoa pancakes. The coffee is usually hot and the service is good. While the price is more expensive than usual diners, the quality of food is worth it. Occasionally the service is slow but no real complaints except I wish they had more diner dessert options. I've heard a lot about the Silver Diner from coworkers so I decided to check it out and bring my boyfriend along. From the outside it looks like a traditional Jersey diner but then you get inside and flip through the menu. It's a pretty neat concept. It's like diner food, but modern and healthy. My boyfriend ordered a bacon cheeseburger and said it wasn't bad. He really loved the fries, though. I went with fish tacos, I believe. I don't really recall the flavor to be honest as I was not wow-ed. I guess it was an overall okay experience. We probably wouldn't make this a top contender when going for dinner as we would our local diner but maybe if we're in a pinch we'll stop in and try some more items on the menu. read more

The food came out quickly as well. Avocado toast with eggs: took one bite and did not like it at all Veggie huevo rancheros: not bad. Plenty of veggies. I wouldn't be craving for it but I would eat it if other people in the group want to come here. Sweet potato fries: not good. Tasted very bland. Burger with cheese fries: decent. Yoghurt parfait: ok. I think it's hard to mess up a yoghurt parfait. Those and 2 coffees came out to be over $70, not including tips. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the place. This place is so bad. Even though the food pics looked like Denny's, it has 4 stars so we decided to give it a try. 2 lumberjack specials, one person added biscuits to their order. Our server asked if he wanted biscuits and the pancakes it comes with; my brother said yes. Breakfast came out with all biscuits and no pancakes. Our server never came back again until he was ready to clear our plates so we couldn't get this rectified before we were ready to leave. Never came back to refill drinks. Half of the potatoes were completely raw in the middle. Like slightly browned on the outside but not cooked AT ALL inside. After placing out order and waiting to be served we all of a sudden looked out the window to see our sever walking back into the establishment from outside, swinging her purse. She then promptly came back in and got back to service in an amount of time that no person could reasonably wash their hands. 2 of 4 meals came out cold and 1 with the improper ingredients. After a recent visit to the Garden State Discovery Museum I got excited to try this place. They have a replica diner of this place. When passing it I decided to pop in! The first thing we noticed was the 3-4 bright red signs that said "bakery on premises". I'm jumping ahead of my thoughts on the food, but we were disappointed to find out that they did NOT have a bakery section or bakery on premises. That was very misleading and caused me to knock down a star off the Yelp review. To the food: I ordered the tomato- mozzarella sandwich. It was great!! I was a little shocked to find lettuce on my sandwich as the description of the sandwich did not include lettuce. I ordered a side salad with a side of lemon and my salad came out with dressing. I was slightly annoyed, but they fixed the issue right away. My fiancée ordered the lamb burger and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were out of this world delicious and the lamb burger was good too. My fiancée also had the crab- corn chowder which was good too. Posting this in the hopes of reaching a resolution: Over a year ago we ordered takeout through their website and after paying they called us to tell us they didn't have what we had ordered so we asked that they cancel. They cancelled it but said they needed to talk to the manager who wasn't there in order to issue a refund. The next time we followed up they said we had to submit a request for the refund (for an order they never made and we cancelled minutes after placing...) through a long form on their website, which we did a couple of times and never got any confirmation or heard back on. After many conversations about this, during which they usually say they need to talk to the manager who isn't in that day or talk to a regional manager because managers can't issue refunds, we still have no refund and they are now acting like the whole thing never happened and instead sent us a voucher for use in the restaurant that's not even worth the amount of money they stole. This is all despite the fact that there's a paper trail over email about everything. It's pretty ridiculous and we used to really like them/would have ordered or eaten there many times in the last year if not for this happening so it doesn't seem like it can be worth it on their end. read more

I try and eat healthy and avoid fried foods. I've ordered the brussel sprouts/lentil with roasted red peppers entree several times and enjoyed it. Last week I ordered it to go and watched them put the brussel sprouts in the deep fryer in oil just like the french fries. I was ordering this entree cause I thought it was healthy. I always thought brussel sprouts were roasted in the oven. Live and learn. Maybe I should have asked how they were prepared first, but will definitely not order this entree again. The manager sent me a reply and told me that I could request the brussel sprouts be roasted and they would accomodate me. This was my 2nd time at this Silver Diner. I visited last March and this past March, both for a convention that I come into NJ for. Both times we were not really blown away by the food. On our most recent visit, we sat at the bar area since the wait for the tables was about 40 minutes (it was a Sunday afternoon). I went with the roasted veggie huevos rancheros and my bf went with the french toast. I found mine to be a little bland. It was definitely nice to be able to go to a little diner and find a healthy option, but taste wise, this was just off. My bf didn't really love his french toast either. Service was great and very quick, but I just wasn't really impressed with their food either time I visited. Not sure if I will return again next year. read more
