You know those nights where you have plenty in the fridge but just don't want to put anything together? Tonight was that night. Silver Chopsticks to the rescue! We rarely eat out, but when we do, it's often Asian since we don't make it at home often. We ordered szechuan chicken, pad thai shrimp, the house special fried rice, and two egg rolls from the Chinese menu. I'd say by the silence at the table, everything was delicious! I'm fairly picky on the heat of my szechuan (I like my food to bite me back). This was great - nice heat throughout. We thought the pad thai could use more heat - add that to the request next time we order. I would have preferred brown rice as an option, but the white rice was perfectly cooked. And it didn't have that bleach taste many white rices have (you know what I mean). The staff here is so gracious and they're really looking forward to opening their doors for dine-in. I passed this place many times, just didn't seem appealing. But it's near my sister snd she wanted Chinese without going far. Was pleasantly surprised by how open the dining room is. Great menu with truly inexpensive luncheon specials. Most were $7.25 for main, rice, egg roll and soup or salad. My sisters both enjoyed their lemon chicken and lo mein. My generals chicken was tasty, but they put thickener in the sauce which made in kind of thick. Will definitely give it another try Sorry, no bar. read more

I'm a regular at Silver Chopsticks for two reasons: the friendly faces and the pot stickers made from scratch. They are honestly my favorite item on the menu. Thick, flavorful dough with a perfect chewy consistency, tasty filling, and rich, fresh dipping sauce. The restaurant is family run and you can often see family members prepping ingredients at the large table at the back of the restaurant. They're always incredibly gracious when helping me with my kids, bringing extra bowls and spoons, and bringing hot appetizers (usually dumplings) as quickly as possible. I tend to stick with the Vietnamese portion of the menu as I haven't been overly impressed by their Chinese food. It isn't as flavorful as I'd like it, or the meat portions have been small. I often have a tough time trusting Asian food in Reno, but Silver Chopsticks was a pleasant surprise. I had their pork and egg roll on top of vermicelli and it was pretty good! I definitely will be going back and trying more dishes in the future. Compared to some of the Asian restaurants in more ethnic cities, Silver Chopsticks is nothing special. However, for Reno it was a nice find. The menu is well rounded with a lot of variety for Vietnamese and Chinese food options. The portion sizes are huge so plan to share or have some leftovers. So today while working I stopped at Silver Chopsticks for lunch. I really like this place cause they serve one of my favorite dishes. I started with Summer Rolls. Everything was fresh and I like the Peanut Sauce they serve with it. Good crunch from the vegetables and ample amount of Shrimp and Pork. Then I got my favorite dish. It's Stuffed Deep Fried Tofu in Black Bean Sauce. They stuff it with a mixture of Ground Pork and Shrimp and the Black Bean Sauce has big chunks of Ginger and Green Onions. Love it. Great flavors, and when paired with steamed rice it's a great meal. Not a overly heavy dish and the ginger helps with digestion so you don't feel full afterwards. Today was the worst Mongolian beef I ever ate so chewy meat full of sinew didn't even taste like Mongolian beef, barbecue pork fried rice, absolutely flavorless I told the waiter but they did nothing hot and sour soup was really good but that's where it ended. We just ordered food from them and the staff had NO idea what was going on. I had a huge order and when I went to pick it up, the waitress/cashier/hostess was trying to say that I had two orders. When I told her I didn't and that I have one huge order, she asked, "are you sure?" I said that I was absolutely sure that I don't have two orders. She then advised that I order chow mein without vegetables or meat (the second order she was trying to sell me). I told her I ordered chicken chow mein. She told me, I didn't. I finally was so pissed off and said I am so confused. I looked at the order tab and advised my name and pointed to my tab. She said my order was almost done. I paid for my ONE order and was advised to sit down. I watched the next 10 minutes with different people coming in and picking up their order and the staff getting very confused. My order came out and they put it on a table in front of me and tried to figure out everyone else's order. I waited another 5 minutes and stood up angry and said, "I pretty sure this my order that I already paid for getting cold!" The chef had to come out and help resolve the situation with a few of us watching this mess and waiting to get our food. I get the food home and it was bland and luke warm. Typically they the sweet and soar sauce is on the side and this time it was on the fried pork, which made it a soggy disgusting mess. We paid $119 and we will never go back. read more

To start with the place was inviting, servers were friendly and nice, they also have a good variety of food we could order. What makes it even more fun is having a big screen HDTV allowing us to watch the finals basketball games. The selection of beer, wine, sake and non alcoholic beverage were equally of good variety as well. We ordered seafood tofu soup, house combination clay pot and Vietnamese eggroll, yes you better believe it they have Vietnamese menu selection as well - that's awesome especially for me as I like lotsa options. The food taste good and so is my plum wine . More importantly, their customer service is so impressive and delightful to have. I found my new favorite Chinese Restaurant. Since it is nearby my family's favorite restaurant, we've often seen the sign so we decided to try out today. It was Sunday evening with still bright sun up. As I stepped inside the restaurant, I felt it was kinda dark there. We got seated quickly, but since they didn't have any tables for large group, we had to squeeze in. Ordered two hot tea, but they gave us only one pot to share. When I asked for more, they just added hot water without changing or adding tea bag. The food came out fairly quickly. The portion was small and dishes were all little salty side but kids liked it. I liked their three color flavored abalone soup. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! This is mine and the hubby's absolute favorite. Simply because it has AMAZING Chinese ANDDD pho! And it's not the greasy Chinese food people are used to. It's so fresh and flavorful. I've tried the lemon chicken, honey walnut shrimp (most favorite), crispy duck (second favorite), Pho #1, cream cheese wontons, egg drop soup (umm YUM), and their vermicelli. What I'm trying to say is, you cannot go wrong at this place. Their prices are great and serving size is big. You'll definitely be super full and only spend around $8-13 per person. Great service, even when they're busy they are attentive and you'll never wait too long for your food. We've gone busy weekend nights and during midweek lunch hour. This place is a gem in north Reno, it's a family owned adorable little classic Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. It's my absolute go to for to-go spring rolls and pho! This is second time I've been here and today I ordered the spring rolls and seafood pho. The spring rolls were okay. It tasted fresh, but the meat inside was tough and dry. I kept having to discreetly pick the meat out of my teeth after 2 bites, it was that dry. I was a little disappointed with the sauce, it was hoisin with chopped peanuts on top. I'm so used to dipping spring rolls in a peanut sauce, but that's not what they serve with this appetizer. The pho soup had plenty of seafood, it was very tender and delicious. The noodles were cooked perfectly, I really enjoyed that part. Although I was surprised to see carrots, peas, and bok choi in my soup the peas and carrots were perfectly crisp. I didn't eat the bok choi because I couldn't figure out how to eat it without using my fingers and making a mess. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the broth. It actually tasted like they diluted it with water which took away the flavor. I ended up putting my spring roll sauce in it to give it more depth. I realize that all Asian restaurants have their own taste and style so I walk in knowing that all recipes will not be the same, but the little nuances like the spring roll sauce and broth make me realize that love and care in your technique can really make a difference. read more

We live in the area and have been here a few times. Every time the food has been tasty and the service is always friendly. Since we live close by we do take- out, so I can't comment on their waitstaff. Usually we stop by for their rare steak pho. Their pho is good quality, with a decent portion. Silver Chopsticks is good about remembering to pack the fixings, basil, bean sprouts and lime wedges. I have also had their flame broiled pork with egg rolls and that could easily be my new go to food. Most of their meals would be enough for me to have dinner and left overs, but my husband is a human garbage disposal, so that never happens. I am always happy that this place goes to great lengths to pack your to go order in bags and boxes. So that your food can make it to your table and not the inside of your vehicle. read more

It was snowing, freezing, and the kids wanted pho but the husband and I wanted chinese.. Enter Silver Chopsticks, a restaurant that serves both Chinese AND Pho cuisine! Well, we actually ended up NOT ordering Pho because SC is the Best Chinese restaurant in Reno! Great quick service, affordable prices, clean establishment, and food was served hot and arrived quickly! Their bathroom alone was immaculate. Not updated but it was so spotless you could probably eat off the floor if you wanted to although I advise against it, but cleanliness is clearly a good indicator, in my opinion. We ordered the family dinner combo because it seemed like the best deal, and we ordered some other items as well to supplement, because we love our soup, noodles and honey walnut shrimp wherever we go. We chose the family dinner and tried both the soup and salad. We ordered the mongolian beef which was delicious. The beef and onions were tender and I finished it all because there was just so much flavor and the correct level of spice without being too overpowering and without feeling too greasy. The sweet and sour shrimp was delicious. Freshly fried seasoned shrimp rings with a perfectly complementing sauce that was not overly sweet. The wonton soup was a bit weird though. The texture of the meat was so fine almost like a fish ball and I didnt know exactly what type of meat it was because it was not your typical pork wonton texture. Honey walnut shrimp entree came with free steamed rice as stated on the menu. A lot of their entrees came with free steamed rice, and i am not talking about a rice plate or a small bowl. I am talking about a full order of steamed rice that arrives in the black plastic bowl with a lid. The honey walnut shrimp was freshly fried and coated with creamy sweet sauce. Walnuts were crunchy and sweet as well. House chow mein was delicious, not overloaded with vegetables like some place, and it did not have the overly greasy feel to it. I have to say, my first impression, over a year and half (or more) ago, was unenthusiastic. But recently a lot of good reviews have been coming in and being the storm of 2018 was upon us last night, we decided to try it out again. We dined in and ended up going with the chinese side (when we went for pho ha), we got the Beef with ginger and scallion with vegetables added, as well as the Seafood fried rice with XO sauce, and Chicken Sizzling Rice soup to start. We were so pleased with every dish! The soup was flavorful with fresh vegetables, the rice with incredibly tender, fresh seafood and the beef was excellent with the flavors of ginger and so tender. Additionally, the hot tea is free (what?!). And the service was really good! It is a clean and bright restaurant and we will definitely be back! Stormy days bring to mind a variety of comfort foods. Personally, I lean toward savory, broth-based soups as bolster against inclement weather. Thus on a rainy afternoon did I, my wife, and a friend find ourselves in the strip mall gem that is Silver Chopsticks. For starters I ordered Gi Cun (two Vietnamese spring rolls cut in half, $4.95) and Salt and Pepper Calamari ($7.25). The rolls were served with room temperature peanut sauce spiked with chopped peanut and julienned carrot. The overall flavors of vegetable, noodle, herb and shrimp were present but the pork was a bit dry. Not terrible, but could definitely use improvement. I've eaten my share of fried squid, but this presentation was new to me. Lightly fried in tempura, the squid appeared to be mantle cuts similar to those used for "calamari fries", yet with nubby bits that reminded me of tentacles. Having previously enjoyed suckered appendages I'm fairly certain these weren't squid legs, but I think they were clipped to evoke this notion. Interesting. Served on a bed of shredded cabbage and sliced scallion they were a little chewy, yet pretty tasty despite lacking much "salt and pepper" flavor. A light sweet and sour sauce--provided for our friend's egg roll--was delivered just before the starters, so we used it on the seafood to good effect. My buddy and my wife each ordered from the menu of Chinese lunch specials, Curry Chicken with Egg Roll and Steamed Rice being his choice ($6.95). The egg roll was gone before I could beg a nibble, but he reported, "It was an egg roll." I think I enjoyed the flavor of the curry sauce more than he, finding it to be fairly creamy with just enough spice and possessing more of a Thai than Chinese character. He said, "Eh, It's ok." Alrighty then. In contrast, my wife declared her Beef Broccoli to be, "the best I've ever had." It's entirely possible, being the broccoli was perfectly stir-fried (al dente) with tender, well-seasoned meat. Nothing at all like the spongy, low-rent beef one often receives in this dish. Her choice of Pork Fried Rice was only notable for not being overcooked or greasy; not a star item but just fine as support for the entrée. Hot and Sour Soup rounded out her lunch special ($7.25). We agreed the soup was pretty good, though it could have used a bit more vinegar tang. As noted, I was in search of a big bowl of soup to counter the storm. I goofed by ordering Ph Tái Nan (vermicelli noodle soup with rare steak and well done flank, $6.95) rather than my usual Ph Dc Bit (same thing, but with the addition of tendon, tripe, and meatball). Some may say, "Ewww," but I really missed the tendon and tripe. The soup was served at the perfect temperature (just below scalding) with the usual plate of fresh Thai basil, jalapeño slices, bean sprouts and wedge of lime. The word "Ph" refers to the noodles, but this style of soup is best judged by the flavors of its broth. Some possess a strong, single flavor (too much ginger, onion, etc.), while others are so weak they're akin to leftover vegetable rinse. The best Ph broths combine an involved preparation of herbs, spices, vegetables and meat stock simmered for hours, then combined with noodles, meats and other ingredients for each individual order of soup. This particular broth was more delicate than some but had a very satisfying finish. I added items from the side plate to complement the broth and otherwise left it alone; no sauces necessary. Silver Chopsticks is a restaurant that I always see yet never seem to choose, but after my last experience, I think that will change. This place really is delightful and has better than average food. I often like to look for a healthier option when it comes to my food and so I chose the garlic chicken. Often, I'm served with chicken in a garlic sauce which is not HEALTHY but is better than some of the options. Here, however, it was a fried chicken in garlic sauce, very much like orange or lemon chicken. It was a disappointment but that doesn't make it bad! My food was cooked well and tasted very good. I also ordered spring rolls which were very good and had a side of amazing peanut sauce. Service was also great, our server was very funny and prompt with our meal.
