The scone we ordered for the table was as large as a plate but the mistake we made was the pancakes. We ordered 2 stacks (3 pancakes each stack) thinking they would be the size of Denny's pancakes. NOPE! They were the biggest pancakes I've ever seen. They had to have been at least 12"& the prices-you really can't beat them. Hands down the food was so good but we could only eat so much. Our family has eaten at Sill's Cafe twice. Both were on return trips from Lagoon back to Idaho. With limited seating I would suggest getting here early. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were huge. The kids enjoyed their huge pancakes and we enjoyed our large scone. Not the best chicken fried steak I have ever had but not the worst either. Glad that this place is still cranking out the dankest breakfasts in Utah. I hadn't been to Sill's in over 15 years before I had the pleasure of eating there last weekend. I felt quite safe dining in at a restaurant for the first time since the Covid struck. Other dining parties were spaced far enough apart for my brother and I to feel comfortable and the servers and other staff religiously wore masks the entire time. I had the boss breakfast with a scone my brother ordered some kind of omelette and we ordered a sweet roll even though we knew we would not be able to finish it. The SOS gravy on the hashbrowns was just as good as I remembered. The scone surpassed my fond recollection And the sweet roll seemed even bigger than it had when I was a teenager. I'm a sucker for an old school diner. Sil's has been on my list to get to for ages. We finally made it. Apparently, arriving a 7pm is the end of the dinner rush. People are finishing their meals. The carpets were covered with bits of food. The tables were a mess. Apparently, a lot of the families who dine here are pigs. Our server did mention they were short handed. I understand that, and it didn't ruin our meal, but jeez people you'd never create this mess at your house, but it's ok at a restaurant? Rant off. I got the steak sandwich. It was OK. My wife's food the same. It appears that I really need to order breakfast for dinner next time. That's the speciality. That said, the obvious speciality are the scones. I got a desert one, and it was more doughy than I'd like, and I can see some of the others on other tables didn't look much better. We left about 8:30 and the place was empty. They really roll up the sidewalks early, even on a Saturday. Independent of the issues of being short handed, some places take diner food and have recipes that excel. It is kind of the run of the mill diner type of place, with very affordable pricing, local young employees and good food. So. Fricken. Yummy. I always seem to get there when it's busy so the wait times I have usually seen have been around a 20 minute wait. We just wait in our car since they don't have a large front area. Once we get seated and order your drinks everything speeds up tremendously! My 1 egg was over cooked, my husbands food was flavorless, our daughters French toast had a weird taste, her bacon was stately cook, the hash brows that we asked to be extra crispy were cold are barely cooked. This place has something of a reputation of excellence here in Layton. It is rumored to have the best biscuits and gravy, but we have been told that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. Let me start off by saying, the prices are definitely right. I wouldn't say there like super low for what you get, and they definitely aren't high. It's really a you get what you pay for situation. That isn't a bad thing. We definitely went in with high expectations though with all the raves we had heard about the place. The service was quick and nice, but the food was average at best. Some of this may be my growing up in the Deep South, but they really could benefit from the use of spices. I couldn't finish the biscuits and gravy because it was basically a flavorless pile of much to me. However, there were tables all around gobbling them up, so it may be a thing of the area to like less flavor. 3/5. We, overall, enjoyed the experience, but will not be back. read more

Came here for Sunday morning brunch with the family. Ordered a chocolate milk, breakfast sandwich with ham, and of course, a scone! The scones here are immaculate. They are rich and fluffy, and the honey butter used is sweet enough to want to devour, but not overly sweet to the point where you would want to limit yourself. The pricing is very affordable, and very filling! We waited about twenty minutes at noon to finally be seated, but it was swell worth the wait.
