We come here at least once a year, it would be more if we lived closer. Not that they need a good review, because if you've had their burgers you know they're phenomenal. We came after a long hike, place was packed, staff is exceptional and so nice. The place is a dive, but you can look past that when your food arrives. We all got burgers, fries, onion rings, scones, and shakes. I'm telling you, you can't go wrong, but the fluffernutter shake is out of this world, with peanut butter, marshmallow creme and nilla wafers. So good!! Went to Hi-Mountain in late June after a day in the Unitas. It's a kind of run down old drug store with no character or ambiance to speak of. The young girls who were serving were efficient and friendly and got our orders to us quickly. I had a burger with ham and cheese. It was just ok, nothing special. The hard to find ironport drink was good but could have been a bit larger in size. I shared my friends' fries and onion rings and the fries were especially good, an old style long cut fry cut the full length of a good sized potato. The onion rings were crispy and hot, with no aftertaste of old frying oil. I'm not sure I'll be back, but it'll be on my list if I'm in the area and want some average food for a reasonable price. read more

Awesome place to grab a burger and shake. The burgers are tender and flavorful. Fries are great...could be a bit more crispy, but that's just me. They were a bit too floppy for my taste. The shakes were all great. Our favorite was the chocolate/Oreo/marshmallow shake. Wow!! We all loved it!!! I'm already craving it again. That marshmallow fluff flavor just made it over the top delicious. Because of Covid, it's order by phone or in person; no inside dining today (July 2020)! It took 25-30 minutes to get our food. A burger joint in an old dated pharmacy. My table sat right next to a display of yarns and crafts. There were worn, dogeared books on the table to read while you waited for your food. They serve Kool-Aid. The menu said it was an "award winning" burger. I chuckled to myself. Local favorite and traditional stop for families that camp in the Uintas. Known for their burgers, but also their ice cream counter. Something everybody should try at least once in their lives is a frosted glass mug of Ironport soda, which is an Intermountain region drink that tastes sort of like root beer but with other mysterious spices. It goes great with the burgers. After COVID they've made some improvements. You now order on the way in, which eliminates any waiting for service when you're seated--a common previous complaint during the busy season. Additionally, you don't have to wait for your check either. Waiting for service before and after the meals has been resolved. Bring some cash so you don't have to tip before receiving service. During the weekends--especially 3-day weekends--in the summer and early fall come prepared to wait for a table. Pro Tip: The gas station next door has phenomenal donuts and giant moose turd-sized fritters, which are usually available in abundance early morning. First time here. About 7 after school kids and myself is all that is here. The service is AWFUL and very inefficient. The girl at the register doesn't at all know how manage the front. Each and every kid in front of me had no idea what to order and rather than say let me help the person behind you she just let them take each 5 mins decide while I'm waiting and ready. It was at least 20 mins ..Then it took another 10 mins to get my Diet Coke.The kitchen seems to have their act together however. I got the popper burger. Bun was very soft, onion ring was excellent, over all flavor was great but burger itself was over cooked and dry. The biggest thing to keep in mind when you come here is that you are in Kamas, Utah. Knowing that you are in the middle of a small country town at a family owned joint is what makes the experience at this place. It's kind of weird when you walk in. The tables and chairs are old and run down. Not to mention this place is half restaurant, half old, forgotten pharmacy. There are lots of little trinkets and goodies lining the walls--some of them look as if they haven't been touched in years. Now that I've set the scene, we can get to the food. It was pretty good!! Their burgers are the thing they are best known for and probably the yummiest thing we had at our table tonight. I got the Navajo Taco with their homemade chili and was satisfied. Not over the top excited about it, but definitely satisfied. The onion rings were another of my favorites that I had tonight. Overall, this place has a sweet, small town, family charm to it. We never saw her again except for when she brought the food. We all ran out of waters, and had to go to the front to finally request our check. We waited 50 minutes for our food to come out and the prices are drastically higher than the quality of the food justifies. They want $7 for kids meals and a burger and fries can run you $12. I have an admitted bias for small town burger-and-shake joints, so you should know right away that it would take a Herculean effort (or a really really bad experience) for a place like Kamas' Hi Mountain Drug to earn less than four or five stars from me. I will say, however, that there is a lot to love about this small general store/burger joint so don't write it off as the fanciful longings of a burger romantic. There's some meat to this story, so pay attention. Located along Main Street in a small building with a sandwich shop and a take-and-bake pizza joint, Hi Mountain enjoys prime real estate in the mountain town of Kamas. When I'm in Kamas, it means adventure time and food just tastes better. Here's where I want my big beefy burger with lots of grease and a chocolate banana shake. Post-hike it's always a double bacon cheeseburger, that shake, and an order of fries. I have my traditions, and the Holy Trinity of post-hike greasy food is carved in stone. Unfortunately, it wasn't meal time so I only got to sample the shakes. Another reason to go for yourself to experience the food and dive into the menu. They've spent some time developing some special burgers and shakes (and some charming menus that will have you plotting a return visit) and it's clear that the focus is on the food part of the store and not the general store part of the store. You can pick up sundries, but with the relatively monstrous Kamas Food Town now in the little hamlet, it's burgers or bust. Still, you can grab some snacks so it's worth a stop in to support the little guy if you need to stock up. After speaking with the fella behind the counter (whose family owns the place and who drives up from SLC 6 days a week to help out) I knew I'd have to get a couple of shakes. My boring chocolate-banana and a key lime pie. They serve a soft-serve vanilla and flavor from there--and they didn't hold back on the chocolate syrup. Since it was a busy Saturday afternoon the ice cream had been flowing out of there quite regularly and wasn't as solid as it might have been, but it wasn't shake soup, either. Fresh banana carefully chopped into chunks beforehand (nice touch) and then swirled around. Very nice. The Key Lime Pie was a much bigger production. Fresh squeezed lime, real cream cheese, vanilla wafers (or was it graham crackers?), topped with whipped cream and garnished with a lime wedge. Wha? Oh ya. In the nice fella's own words, "We're serious about our shakes." I think I got misty eyed. When I got my shakes, the guy comes out from behind the counter, goes behind the register at the counter behind me, and rings me up. You can tell he was brought up in the place and probably also fixes the machines when they break, does a little bit of marketing, balances the books, and mops the floor. Good gravy I love small town stores. One other item worth noting. You can get a housemade ironport (or ironport flavored shake) here. What's that? Look it up--it's like a mix between root beer and Caribbean spices. It's a very little-known Utah thing that runs over state borders a bit. I blew it and didn't know they had it until I was home. But Hi Mountain is on my "to go back ASAP" list so I'll be trying it soon. read more

Hi-Mountain is really what a small town hamburger place should be: totally awesome. The restaurant doubles as a restaurant, ice cream parlor and a drug store. There are a lot of quirky and cute things sold in the drug store, but the restaurant is really where the place shines. I've been a few times over the years since my family lives around the area and have always left pretty happy. The burgers are tasty -- I got the Gonburger during this trip, but the regular cheeseburger is delicious as well. I think it has a lot to do with the order of the toppings, actually. It's not patty, cheese, condiments, then the bun -- it's condiments, patty, then cheese, then the bun, which I think makes the burgers taste better. The fried pickles are great, as are the regular fries. The onion rings aren't too big but still pack a flavorful punch. And of course, there's always the Utah staple of fry sauce. If you want to top off your meal with something sweet, order a malt/shake. There are SO many different kinds. I got the Better Than Anything, which had brownie bits, toffee, and caramel. SO awesome and the perfect way to end a trip to Hi Mountain. Overall, this place is really cute, the food is good, prices are fair and service is friendly. I decided to take a day trip, and I saw really good reviews for Hi-Mountain so I knew this was the place I was going for lunch, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is so cool, right inside the old drug store. The employees are friendly and greet you right away. I ordered the gonburger, with a side of fries, and the better than anything shake. Four years ago I would have recommended Hi-Mountain but the pandemic must have taken its toll. They don't stay open past 7 and randomly shut down for employee-days-off throughout the year. Their food used to be so good! They would have fresh chicken and hand battered onion rings but have since switched to processed chicken patties in their salads and sandwiches, and onion rings straight out of the freezer. I have continued to support them despite these changes, but my experience today is worth a 1-star review. Our server brought our food and drinks out only to never be seen again. The only time I ever saw another server come out was to deliver food to other people, who were also not checked on after that. The customer service is not up to the standards that it used to be at, I will most likely not be going back. read more

Coming off a hike in the High Uintas and starving. Looking for a nice burger joint around. Heard of Dicks but it was closed and then read reviews on this gem! Sounded great and local restaurant. Waited awhile but to me it was worth it. I like to stay away from the chains and support the locals, plus you're getting better food that way anyway, ( we all know that). Some of the best French fries I've had in years! That crisp is magical without feeling at all greasy. I went with the WACBURGER and it did not disappoint.
