Hi-Mountain is unlike any other restaurant experience I have had. For starters, the restaurant is located in an old semi-run down pharmacy. half of the establishment is a restaurant and the other half is a hodge-podge of antiques, random candies, an assortment of scrapbooking decor, puzzles, greeting cards, and tacky home decor. It is very entertaining to walk the isles of the old pharmacy (now burger joint) and see what you can find. Some of the merchandise seems like it has been sitting there for years. Despite the dim-lighting, this place is a treat! The service is friendly the majority of the time. When they get busy, things become more about getting stuff done and less about making a friend. We always stop here on the way to our cabin and have never had a bad experience. Do yourself a favor and grab one of their better-than-anything shakes, some fries and any one of their burgers. The bison burger (the Friday Special) is said to be one of the best (my husband can attest to that) and the Jalapeno burger is always a hit with my family. We had eaten lunch not too long before so we split the Jalapeño Popper Burger, fries, fried pickles and a banana cream pie shake. Everything was good. I was going for a burger, and they sound great, but my partner wanted to try the Navajo Taco, and the fish and chips, and that was the wrong choice. The Navajo Taco was on the smallest scone that I have ever seen. If you are going to sell them so small cut the price in half. The fish and chips were either way over fried, or fried in very old oil. they should have been golden brown, but they were dark brown and dry. After coming back home along US 150 we noticed this little hole in the wall burger/pharmacy(?) on the way home and in desperate need of a stop. Signage about the 'Best Burger' in Utah made it almost mandatory. I have to admit, I'm a fan of little out of the way eating; so the occasion was perfect. Then we walked through the door... After having to track down someone from behind the counter and ask them for a menu, we sat down and got a look. My wife and I both went for the Cheese Burger as I thought that'd be a good place to start to see if this place lived up to it's reputation. It didn't. I'm pretty sure a simple homemade burger at home would be better. Don't get me wrong, it was better than almost every chain restaurant I've been to, but it by far wasn't the 'best' burger I've had in a while. IF you are in the area of Kamas, I'd say it'd be your best bet for good food in the area, but not worth driving in from Salt Lake to try it. They have 'Leatherbee's' shakes, which were okay, but the girl behind the counter used a dish rag she was wiping counters with, to wipe the cup I would be soon eating out of and it took 10 minutes to get someone to get to the counter to pay for our meal which was quite expensive considering... read more

It takes a lot for me to five-star any place. This is a 4.5 star rounded to a five. It's not the absolute best burger I've ever had but they serve up some excellent home-made burgers, sides and home-made root beer in a quaint, cozy, okay old-school small-town drug store setting. It's definitely unique to me. We came to this place a couple of years ago when my family and I were in Park City for a kids' soccer tournament and thought highly of it then so we came back this time after working up an appetite sitting in the sun all morning. Did. Not. Disappoint. We all got burgers (there are other menu options from salads to sandwiches to other random Americana diner fare but why bother in my view). Me and one of my sons got the Aussie burger (burger, fried egg (over medium), mustard, pickles) and the others got cheese burgers. Since all burgers (except for the kids' meals) are served a la carte, I suggest you order some sides. We got fried dill pickles, bacon and cheese fries, a bowl of chili, and fried corn nuggets. One of my kids got the root beer to drink. More on that later. The adult burgers are all 1/3 lb. (the kids' burgers seemed like 1/4 lb.) patties cooked perfectly on a griddle. Not too firm and not too soft when you bite into it and very beefy. They toast their sesame seed buns so they are just slightly crispy on the outside. The toppings are fresh. The fried egg was perfect and the pickles were slightly tart. The burgers were simple, honest, and just worked. And yeah, they fill you up. There is an option on the menu to double up on the meat and cheese for a couple of bucks more but you're asking for it. Deep fried pickles were dill quarter spears with a thick crunchy coating of breading. Perfectly fried golden brown and I loved that the pickles were not too salty. The bacon and cheese fries were hand cut fries topped with cheddar and bacon and drizzled ranch (your choice of bleu cheese is also available). The fried corn nuggets - creamed corn deep dipped in thick batter and deep fried. Baller. The chili looked pretty ordinary and if anything a little runny. But something about this chili spoke to me (even despite the fact it had beans in it which I'm not usually a fan of). There is a good amount of broken up hamburger meat, the chili flavoring was on the light side and there was almost no acidity so it was "smooth." Can't believe I just described chili as smooth. But there you go. It comes topped with fresh diced onions and grated cheddar cheese like it should. Me and the kids opted to spoon a good amount on all of our burgers. Double baller. One final mention: the root beer. Home made and served in a really tall frosted mug. Old school. Refreshing. And get this . . . . free refills! Try that at every other restaurant that makes you pay $3 for another bottle of IBC or some other brand of "craft" root beer served in a chilled mug. Yelpers have raved about the shakes. Too bad I can't have any. Stupid lactose intolerance. Service is friendly albeit a little slow. But that's okay. It's a relaxed atmosphere. In our case, it was a full house so I also understood the backlog. That said all six of us got our food from order to table in about 20 minutes. Not bad. If you find yourself in Kamas, or Oakley, or Park City and want some great burgers, find yourself here as well. read more

We loved the burgers, shakes, and fries here. The set up is a bit quirky, but I think that quirkiness adds to the experience. My burger was delicious and it looked like they had a good balance of unique signature burgers without trying to be too over the top. My licorice shake was one of the best. So why 4 stars and not 5? I've had better burgers, but don't get me wrong this one was good. This should be a top choice for Kamas but a bit difficult to say "As Good As It Gets" when I compare it to all the other places I've eaten that truly merit that type of rating. read more

My mother-in-law recommended this place for their milkshakes. My husband and I were in Park City for the weekend and decided to come give it a try - and we were not disappointed. We decided to split the hot fudge brownie milkshake. It was incredible. The waitress explained to us that it's literally vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, a brownie, walnuts, and whipped cream in a shake. It tasted the way I imagine heaven would taste. It's only been two days since we had the shake and I'm already excited to go back and have it again. We went about an hour before closing on a Saturday night. The service wasn't slow, but it also wasn't speedy quick. From what I noticed, they only have one shake machine, so they can only make one shake at a time. There were several people who had ordered shakes ahead of us, so obviously they had to be served first. Phenomenal milkshakes! We were in search of the perfect milkshakes today in the Park City area and the Hi Mountain Drugstore shakes came highly recommended to us. We walk in the door not sure what to expect. We immediately were enamored with the store and then saw the menu... Our picks were the Better than Anything, the Raspberry Pretzel Jello and the Maple Bacon. The staff was very knowledgeable and sought out answers to all of our in depth shake-making questions. We enjoyed our shakes so much and plotted our take over the world with the yummy goodness that you expect from home made milkshakes and ice cream... the fat on top of your mouth... The decor is authentic the food looked good too! I got a regular salad that was supposed to have ham, cheese, carrots... it came as iceberg salad mixed with some spinach. But there was hardly anything there. It was $7.50 for the size of a side salad other places. There was a bit of spinach mixed in, I am allergic and asked for that to be taken out. What they sent back was a tiny amount of iceberg lettuce. I even asked if they could mix in house green lettuce... to no avail. My husband got the chili burger which just tasted like a can of chili dumped on a bun. For $9.95. Sigh. What a waste of $$. I also need to mention they were very rude!! read more

Hi-Mountain does a lot of things very well. While I may not drive an hour each way to eat here, I certainly will stop by every time I'm in the general vicinity. The good: On the menu, you'll notice a lot of things with asterisks. Normally, this is a bad thing, as in beef* (50% horse). Here the asterisk denotes something that is made in house. You can tell that this is not mass market food. Our waitress recommended the One Tough Cookie shake (peanut butter, Oreos, fudge, and peanut butter chips), and it was knock-your-socks-off good. I ordered the Gonburger and it was incredible. It had a great barbecue sauce and the hamburger patty looked and tasted hand made. The meat was looser than a standard patty and it was packed with flavor. The fries were also done very well and are cut on site. The bad: It's inside an old drug store, so the kids wanted to buy all the toys and whatnot they had. Not so much bad as a "the more you know" situation. We will be returning! read more

This review is mainly for service. The food and ice cream was good. I've worked in the service industry for over 15 years, and it always irks me when a well reviewed place has undesirable service. It took us almost an hour for a few scoops of ice cream and one order of fries. 1) Walk in and it is crowded up front, with a slew of teenagers who all have ice cream. I thought "yay! At least they are done serving them otherwise the wait will be crazy!" 2) Stand by the "wait to be seated" sign for around 5min, with servers walking by and no hellos or indication they noticed us. We asked if we were to seat ourselves, and we finally were told they would be right with us. 3) Get sat, and after 20 min, someone came and asked if we were ready to order. No greetings, and no friendly facial expressions. And there were 6 people serving behind the counter who were standing around chatting with each other. 4) food came, we asked for the bill, worried the wait would put us there even longer. It had been 45min already. 5) Went to the register, and the woman behind it was putting price tags on product. No acknowledgment that we were standing waiting. She tagged for 5min without saying a word or looking up. Finally, she stopped, went to the register, and looked at us. No friendliness. At all. Overall, we observed that if you are not a local, you will get very slow and unfriendly service. What a shame. We vacation locally a few times a year, and we were looking forward to a local joint to get ice cream and grub. This won't be it. read more

Shakes get 5 stars! Food gets 4 stars! Service on a busy weekend get 3 stars! If you are nearby, hungry, and love milkshakes then you must stop in to Hi Mountain. The burgers are decent, not the type of burger that will blow your socks off, but good sized and plenty of options to go on a solid patty of good beef. The milkshake flavors are out of this world, lots to choose from. Try the black licorice (if you like black licorice), Nutella, and the peanut butter flavors, among others that I'm sure I haven't gotten around to. Getting seated and cashing out at the front register are both a pain in the backside on a busy day. Not too much space, and awkwardly placed by the front door. If it's busy, it's best to just walk in and walk up to the counter to order a milkshake to go. They serve a bison burger (locally sourced bison) on Fridays only that is out of this world! Tender, flavorful, served medium-rare with a touch of horseradish in the dressing somewhere. It's fairly large, and my wife and I thought we could share one, but next time, she's not getting half of mine! She said the same. We both had an excellent shake (the cherry chocolate was really good), and it's possible we ate too much ice cream, so next time, it's separate burgers and a shared shake. And don't forget the fries. Hand cut on site every morning. It just don't get much better than this. And we enjoyed the funky, old fashioned drug-store atmosphere. But shhhh, don't tell anybody about the bison burgers - they only have a limited number (like 20 or something) every Friday and probably run out early. Here is the deal with hi-mountain, but before I start my review I need to disclaim that I am a sucker for family owned joints in small towns so that might make me only a slight bit biased on this one. The food is good. I enjoy the onion rings, the sweet potato fries and burgers. The hand cut French fries are great too. Every time I go the food is fresh and hot. I usually stick with the gonburger. The shakes are yummy too. I'd recommend any of them. Oh, and stick with the burgers. They are the best out of everything. The service is alright. If the place is busy it will be quite slow. The place kind of has an interesting smell with is also a downside. Overall go for the food and to support a great local business. Almost all of the employees are in some way related to the owners. The owners are super friendly and try quite hard. It's a place I go to almost anytime I'm at my cabin. read more
