I always say, coffee shop reviews are generally only meaningful to people who share your coffee…read morehabits. I drink black iced coffee. I prefer it to be made from Single Origin beans, from places like Africa that have bright flavor profiles. And I prefer a medium light roast that highlights the quality of the bean. Most places make their iced coffee from blends and medium dark or dark roast levels. Grounded Coffee Co is the rare CT coffee shop that made my iced coffee with an Ethiopian Single Origin roasted by Ilse. Ilse, a North Canaan, CT, was not on my radar. They are now. This was one of the best iced coffees I've had from a shop all year. And it matched my preferences. Grounded is small, but the shop was cute, had some inside seating, and seemed to have an outside seating area, although I did not go out back to see it. Service was friendly and helpful. Very impressed with this visit experience. Five Stars.

Some old staff and some new staff, sometimes the espresso is better than other times but you gotta learn somewhere so- I get it. What prompts me to write a bad review is their "Black Lives Matter" banner where you can't fail to miss it AFTER you have given them your money. That organization is disgraced for a lot of reasons including embellishment, fraud but its their central message that is rotten to the core. The BLM -- and those who support the BLM -- say that some lives are more important than others. That isn't true. They also imply that the lives of police officers are worth nothing at all. ALL LIVES MATTER! These banners with the fists in the air are implying that violence against police officers is OK. They are saying that any officers (even minority officers) who shoot in self defense against a minority suspect is racist. I guess even the Black Cops are supporters of this white supremacy movement that we hear so much talked about but see zero evidence of.

Frozen local meats in the back left corner that were intriguing. There are deals to be had if you're willing to take a minutes to peruse the booklets on display at the entrance. Kind employees, slighty aloof but charming, although I haven't required much service besides checkout. The 3 or 4 times I've been, there have been homeless or disenfranchised men outside but they've generally been harmless besides asking for cash. Just expect it.

So for the past 2- I was always coming up on the ONE weekday they were closed. I finally saw that it was open today and went out of my way to try it! It was absolutely worth the wait. I got a strawberry watermelon smoothie and you could tell it was all fresh fruit used and it was so delicious! Definitely top 5 best smoothies I've ever had!!! This reminded me of a smoothie I got in the Dominican Republic- so FRESH & so delicious. The place is small- but ADORABLE! It was IMMACULATE in terms of cleanliness. I didn't see a speck of dust anywhere and the toppings for ice cream- appeared out of a magazine- it looked that picture perfect. They have a little swing against a wall- with a neon sign that says the name of the establishment. It appeared functional- but I didn't want to break it- if it wasn't so I didn't try it. Lol. Service was great! Friendly and personable staff and my smoothie came right out. It took under 4 minutes for me to get this delicious smoothie!! If you're in the area and you enjoy smoothies - I highly recommend trying this spot! My smoothie is amazing!

The waitress wasn't obviously rude but she was disinterested, seemed annoyed, and just radiated malcontent. It made the visit uncomfortable. Now to the BIGGEST problem. The food. The servings were unacceptably small for the price. If it was a Michelin rated restaurant expect high prices but not at a diner. I could get twice what we were served for the same price else where and it would be about the same quality if not slightly better. The fish was really good. The absolute worst part was my mother's meal. It looked like slop and was stone cold. The potatoes were so runny it was more potato soup than mashed potatoes. She had me try it and it was obviously out if the fridge and not properly prepared. After waving down the waitress she with attitude, like the busperson was more helpful, "can't have that". The plate was gone maybe 2 minutes. They put FRIED CHICKEN in the microwave. With the prices they charge this is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. We decided to leave before we finished as we were now uncomfortable and wildly disappointed. We will be finding a different diner in the future.

Good doughnuts, basic toppings, great owner…read more Came here because we knew the owner from a local pizza spot that always looked after us when we would stop by. He decided to branch out and make a tiny donut shop, so we wanted to swing by and give him a try. The shop is small, designed more for your pick up and go crowd. The signage is a little small, so you will need to know where to go to find it. The selection of donuts is akin to specialty cookie shops. They keep a standard selection of doughnuts on demand but also rotate out a few types to keep things fresh. You order your doughnuts with the cashier, and then get to watch your doughnuts get dipped and packed right in front of you. We got a dozen of these little doughnuts. Took our pics then dug in. As a doughnut, they are good. They are a cake doughnut with a little vanilla in the batter to give it a mellow buttery floral flavor note. Not majorly noticeable, but just enough to make it better than just straight up cake. The best bite was the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries with a light whipped cream gives that flavor profile one would expect from a very solid strawberry shortcake. The rest were of varying states of okay for the toppings. The maple bacon was good, the local maple glaze was very maple forward and tasty. The bacon crumbles needed to be cooked more. They were a little too soft and chewy for that style of doughnut. The doughnuts with chocolate syrup needs a better chocolate syrup. Would probably replace with a chocolate drizzle instead. Would hold up better if not eaten immediately. Some of the glazes were not made in house, and were a bit too strong for some of the other toppings on them. They will need to figure out a way to tweak these glazes to not be overpowering. As a destination spot I would expect an elevated product, and this shop is not set up to be elevated just yet. It's set up to be a local morning doughnut place, which is valid but will need to fight to get people to see them. There's some promise to this business idea. They will need to commit to either a boutique tiny doughnut shop or a local pick up and on demand delivery spot. Either one could work, but they need to find their footing first. For those interested in trying this place, it's a good spot for a little sweet treat. Stick to the non-chocolate flavors, get enough to share, and enjoy!

These small freshly made doughnuts are fun and creative. With gluten-free, and made-to-order options the staff can really accommodate every palette. Great for families and the college crowd. While the toppings may not be gourmet in quality - they are not trying to be. I am very interested in seeing where this business goes. There are so many options and directions for the owner to go with this concept. Excited to see the future!!
