If REI and Marshall's had an offspring, it would be Sierra Trading Post with Marshall's being the predominant gene. The store is huge, has many departments - swim, camping, women's, men's and children's apparel, hiking, biking, hats and accessories, fitness items, winter coats, rain gear and more. But within some areas, there is hardly any merchandise. For example, the Swim section was minimal. There was a big sign and display, but turns out that was it. Literally just a handful of swimsuits, one or two rash guards, no goggles, fins or gear. Did I mention just a handful of swimsuits? Was highly disappointed but since I was there, decided to walk the aisles. The vast majority of the store is filled with clothing. Racks and racks of clothing. Like it's sister store and neighbor, Marshall's, they must get leftover clothing from other stores and sell at a discount. There are definitely good finds among the racks, but I wasn't shopping for clothing and didn't have the patience. Ended up buying a wide brimmed sun hat with SPF of 50 for just $16.99. There were only three customers at the checkout but it still seemed to take forever. Of course this area is filled with a plethora of spontaneous purchases - trail mix, gadgets of every kind, hiking books, flashlights, etc. For me, Sierra will never be a destination like Marshall's where I will go far out of my way to visit. But for those who want outdoorsy clothing, this could be your Marshall's. read more

Too much stuff randomly organized. It's probably works for a patient shopper but I'm not one of those.

I am a loyal customer for years & in the past I've never had any problems bc I usually ordered apparel & footwear. Well, I've always had problems with FedEx's shipping & handling of pkgs! That's a different issue... Anyway, I called bc I had a baking pan arrive in pieces. I called the customer service line & the rep, Kathy informed to have the email, provide the item number of the broken pan & send in photos of the package. & so I did, now a few days passed & I resent my email, still no reply; Then when I sent a request when to expect my replacement pan; another customer rep, Helen asked for the same requirement as did the Kathy. Not a good enough answer back for me. So I called in & demand to speak to a supervisor & of course; No one was available, we are in the 4-5 week into this fiasco & no one replied back by email or phone call. This location of Sierra Trading Post has been open almost two years. It is a sister store to Marshalls, which is located next door. Like Marshalls it sells off-price merchandise. Sierra Trading Post, which now goes by the shortened name of Sierra, sells clothing and merchandise geared for outdoor recreational activities as well as fitness and adventure sports. There are also some home decor items and pet things. When this store first opened it seemed to have a lot more merchandise than it does now. Perhaps this is another victim of the on-line sales beating up the brick and mortars. I'm a fan of Columbia and North Face clothing but have never found any items here to purchase. Well, we've never been to a Sierra. We're new to the area and I have to say we were quite impressed. We thought the prices might be high but we were mistaken there were some fabulous deals. I would have to say one of the highlights of our visit was meeting one of their employees. This fabulous employee is name is Amy. Was so super duper friendly and even gave my dog Belle a treat and she chatted us up and by the time we left the store we felt like we left with a friend. I have to say that I hope Sierra knows they have a gem of an employee with Amy. Helpful and knowledgeable is another way to describe this friendly young lady. I haven't gone window shopping in a long time but I felt like Sierra did a good job overall with being clean and safe. When I entered, there was a person who greets you and she had a bunch of sanitizer and was also counting how many people were entering the building. There were arrows showing how one should walk/flow through the store. I kept messing up. Like I said, I haven't gone out very often and so I did my best to follow the arrows-kind of like driving but thank goodness even if I took a wrong turn there were no crashes :) Anyways, there weren't a lot of people when I went in the early afternoon and workers still kindly checked on me and said goodbye afterwards. I bought something and they had a glass over each cashier register. One thing they could do better was to wipe the carts. Right next door was Marshall's and they had a person who would wipe the cart handles for you before you use it. Other than that, it was nice to stroll around :) read more

I finally ventured out to STP, not knowing exactly what was sold here. I was highly impressed! They sell merch for less like Marshalls. Whether it's for fitness, outdoor gear/accessories, home décor, or even pet essentials, they have what you need. I'm not huge on the outdoors, but I did look into their fitness items, well priced yoga pants, jackets, and winter accessories. Their store is very bright and spacious. The staff was very friendly and check out was a breeze. They do abide with the rules for social distancing, masks on while in the store, and limit capacity for our safety. This store is the best!!! The selection was really great for outdoorsy clothes at a good price. We went in looking for swim trunks and almost left with three pairs, haha! OMG, hit the mother lode. We went to a big STP in Meridian ID years ago and loved it. We meant to try their Jantzen Beach store when they first opened but despite the favorable reviews I got the impression that they mostly just had outdoor stuff, so put it off. Today we were in the suburbs and we came across STP and again really good reviews but not sure that they would have stuff that we would need like shorts, short sleeve shirts and gym clothes. Well I'm glad we checked it out because it turns out they had a lot of non-outdoor stuff that we really needed and the prices were phenomenally cheap. It brings the best elements of REI quality with the discount prices of Marshalls. The store is layed out nicely and there's plenty of self service dressing rooms with no limit to what you can try on. I like this store, way better than Ross or Marshall's. Definitely not as cheap as those though, but they have a great selection of home goods and I like the apparel better and brands that they carry. Definitely worth a check out. I have been once and would go back if looking for something specific they would carry. I feel like I'm the only one in Portland that isn't some Outdoor/Hiker nut! However, I was really drawn to this BRAND NEW store, what girl can resist a Grand Opening?? Not me! Yes, I'm an "indoor" kind of girl, I prefer not to climb rocks or camp outside where there's insects and bears clawing at my tent. Yet, roaming around this spacious store inspired me to consider doing all the the OUTDOORSY things that have made me uncomfortable! There is an outfit and gadget for everything! I could actually see myself in that super lux camping tent, I loved those hiking boots, I wanted that amazing coat to keep me warm whether I would be going on adventure or running to the mall! I love the layout of the store and how it's very novice friendly! Some people like me have no idea where to begin, but it's very organized and motivated me to do more exploring of this beautiful state. Less a "technical" store for high-end gear (like REI), Sierra Trading Post is a good place for novices to the great outdoors to see the breadth of accessories, from wool caps to cowboy hats, from shoes to boots, and a great variety of outerwear, from jackets to woolen ponchos. One star off for the self-satisfied air of the sales staff and the inflated prices, but it costs nothing to look and try on and become more educated about what's out there for your hard-earned dollars. read more

So this is a pretty cool store, not quite what I thought it would be but cool nonetheless. Specifically, we were looking for some decently priced boots for my husband. What we found in shoes were mostly higher end outdoor brands at discounted prices, owing to Sierra being in the same family of stores as Marshalls and TJ Maxx. We wanted something a little more middle of the road and didn't find it, but I'd refer an REI-loving friend here to check for deals. On the other hand, we found some good prices and selection on some pants and a shirt for him that would be great for camping or fishing, and I picked up a $10 lightweight hoodie that was a good score. Not a ton of gear here, it's mostly centered on clothing and shoes. I think it's a mix between well priced higher-end brands, and more affordable brands for the more "casual" outdoor adventures. read more

Sierra Trading Post has everything you could need. I frequently shop here, most recently for new snowboarding gear. I was able to find everything I needed including jacket, snowboard bibs, gloves, wool socks, neck gaiter, and I ordered specific goggles from Sierra Trading Post website to be picked up at the store. You could also easily find goggles, helmet, snowboard bags, base layers, beanies, wax, and more in store. They literally have everything in store but boards, boots, and bindings (which can be ordered online). The staff are helpful and there's no pressure in the fitting rooms, which makes my trips fast and effective as I can try everything on at once. I appreciate Sierra Trading Post and their staff. "WOW" is all I can say. I am getting into backpacking and camping and such so have been making many trips to REI and visiting Amazon. Why was I not coming here?? The prices are amazing and there is actually quite a bit of gear available. They are a part of the same company as TJ Maxx and Marshall's so there are short supply and closet bargains everywhere but that makes it more like a treasure hunt to me. We went here on our last day of our Portland vacation to look for a rain coat for the wife. We ended buying a few other things since the prices were really good. I believe Sierra Trading is also managed by the same company as TJ Maxx and Marshalls so the merchandising is the same except this is all for outdoor gear. We ended up buying a rain jacket for the wife, a beanie for me and even a dog rain jacket for our Cavalier King Charles. They have a lot of winter wear, snowboarding/skiing clothing, helmets, camping gear, active wear, hiking shoes and they have a pet section. There's a good selection of clothing items and the staff I encountered was friendly and welcoming. The cost of the products are good relative to their comparison cost and can vary depending on brand name. The store was clean and there was lots of parking mid day on a Sunday. read more

(which is a big plus) Employees are nice and you can tell they are trying their hardest. New location so most people who work there seem fairly new to the business and process. Let me start out by saying that I've NEVER written a Review in my life because I normally just brush things off. I really loved this store until the horrible experience I just had. I bought boots from them a week ago and the boots did not have a tag. I asked him to print me new tags in case I decided to return them because I was on the fence about them. The cashier told me I could return them with the receipt within 30 days of purchase without the tags and it wouldn't be a problem. I did not wear them outside, the boots have a distressed look as is and had a small amount of cat hair on the inside from when I tried them on. I have cats. Cat hair is on my clothing. It happens. Fast forward to me bringing them in to return them because I decided they weren't what I was looking for the manager was called up because they didn't have tags and she was very rude and condescending. She made me feel as though I was criminally bringing these stupid $39.99 boots back Because they cat some cat hair in them and didn't have tags. Perhaps train your employees better about return policies and study your distressed merchandise. I honestly don't want to come back here because of how annoying this experience was. She said she would return them" this time" with an attitude like she was doing me a favor. THATS YOUR JOB. I had my receipt and did absolutely nothing wrong. read more

I finally stopped into the Sierra Trading Post! Located right next to the new Marshall's location, the Trading Post features outdoorsy clothing, shoes, accessories, pet supplies, and more! I was really impressed with the prices on their items. Sizes are limited, but still plenty to pick from. I picked up two pairs of higher end jeans and found some lovely tops for the workplace. They have GREAT deals on dog gear (calling all fur parents)!!! The employees were very friendly and the store is well organized and bright. I bought a tennis racquet that broke after using it 2 times. When asking for replacement the vendor told me that the policy is not replacement for used products. I really did not expect such answer, very disappointing. The vendor indicated that I had to claim against the manufacturer and they are just distributors and I argued that I bought the product to them so it is their responsibility. This was my first time coming to Sierra Trading Post and I loved it. I was on the quest to outfit family members for a Fairbanks, AK trip. I was in the store for hours in several departments and received excellent service throughout. A special mention for Diana, who knows cold weather and the women's section very well. She helped me identify quality brands on clearance first, which I appreciated. Well worth it if you can be flexible on amounts of each product, although I shopped after the cold season had started, so the stock could just have been picked over. read more
