Plenty of choices at the Sierra Tap House located right on the Reno riverwalk. They've got all your classic drinks and lots of specials every day of the week! I stopped in for the first time for a friend's birthday. This was the first stop on a short bar crawl. I wasn't drinking on this occasion but I did check out the menu and took a look around while socializing. The building itself is large but the bar is small. It was taking quite awhile to get drinks. It was a Saturday afternoon but it seemed like there was just one bartender. I jumped in line at one point to order an NA option and it just took too long so I went to sit with my group sans drink. The main reason for the 3-stars is the quality of the place itself. This place is large and good for big groups but it's also really run down. Many of the bar games are out of date or not working properly. The furniture could use a refresh and overall things just look a bit dingy. Maybe that's what they are going for here? I just think there are many other great spots in the area and I would recommend them over the Tap House. It's ok here, but not my scene. read more

Sierra Tap House is located right on the river. It has a great view, and it is nice for people watching while you have your drink. There is plenty seating on the inside and out. There are gamble machines on the bar, and there is also a pool table. I wind up at this bar a lot because it is consistent and I love the vibe. I am never disappointed with the drinks here. I usually order a specialty cocktail from their menu, but this time it wasn't made yet, so I ordered a Last Word, which was delicious! My boyfriend had the Pranqster on draft and he said it would good as well. We spent $22 for these two drinks. It was a little busy when we went, and the bartender handled it effortlessly, and it felt like we didn't wait at all. He was very nice and welcoming, and I enjoyed the service we got. read more

Walked in mid afternoon to grab a beer to try to kill time after an apartment viewing but sat down and didn't even get acknowledged. As someone in the hospitality industry, I was super disappointed to see all their employees standing around and not a single person looking in my direction. I don't mind if you're busy and need a minute to get to me but for EVERY employee and patron ( it wasn't busy..8 people at the bar max) to see me sit down for 10 minutes and walk out without even being greeted or asked for a drink is CRAZY to me. Thankfully Our Bar is right across the street and I was able to walk in and get service immediately with more patrons sitting and already served. Not even acknowledging someone after speaking to a patron directly to their left is outrageous to me Hopefully they get their act together but they won't be getting my patronage back. Tap House is a rad mix of a dive bar, a college bar, and a smidge of hipster. Personally, I go for a few reasons: They have fresh juice for their mixers and I love me a greyhound. The patio is a great spot to chill - no matter the time of year. Yes, sometimes the bartenders suck, and you will wait. I certainly have. Other times the bartenders are super friendly and on their game. It's a crapshoot, I can't find the pattern. I still go back because it's just a rad bar. They have some arcade games, they have some card/board games you can grab off the shelf and play. They even have Trivia Tuesdays, and who doesn't love a rousing game of trivia? I recently visited on a Friday night as a goodbye to a coworker. We had a group of 10 - 12 of us (all coming in or leaving at assorted times) and the outside table arrangement worked perfectly. We took over a corner with a picnic table and a few other tables and it was ample space for our group. Bar service was on point - I did a few rounds of Tito's with ginger beer. Delicious and perfect for the warm weather. Being entertained by the people wandering along the river made the time even more enjoyable. September 8, 2019 "Reno" is going on a different direction these days, and it shows by all the different little establishments popping up. It's nice to find social settings outside of the Casinos and the main Virginia and Sierra Street strolls. One thing that "Downtown Reno" has and IMO does better than most other cities is it's Bars, Pubs and Lounges. "Reno" just like "Vegas" and "Atlantic City" was made for those that like to be social. Can I say "After-hours?" Oh yeah, "Reno" does that too very well, as to not ramble on very much and start this review, let me tell you why "Sierra Tap House" is a big hit in my book. Sierra Tap House: Sitting along the "Downtown River Walk" the Truckee River to be exact. "Sierra Tap House" is one of the few gastropubs in the area bringing Craft Beers and Micro Brews to the area with a different flair. This establishment, also serves as a Whiskey Bar, which isn't too uncommon with beer bars now in days. The staff here is pretty great and very knowledgeable about their products. "Christian" is the ultimate "Brewtender" and made the overall vibe a good one. He's one of the people here running a very hip establishment and he's very knowledgeable about the in's and outs of "DT Reno". "Sierra Tap House" is located in one of the best places for the fact it's still in the heart of downtown, but it's in a place where tourist and locals alike go and visit. With indoor and patio seating, it makes this place a great place for meetings, dates and just being social. This place does have extended hours on weekends in particular, depending on the flow of the crowd. This place also serves as a stop during the summertime "Reno River Wine Walk" and crawl events that happen through out the year. Overall: "Sierra Tap House" is a great establishment for locals and out of towners a like. With a vast selection of brews, wine for those that partake in that and select spirits, they have a little something for everyone here. During the summer, this place is the place to be, with the sun out and the cool breeze from the river, you have to be there to know what I'm talking about, during the winter it's just as fun as the lights go on during the night time, it's still a spot that gets it's crowd. I recommend this place highly, and thanks to "Paul S." For throwing me a "UYE" here for my birthday last year, I now know about this place, and it's going to be a favorite of mine for a while. read more

This is a tucked away little bar on the river walk. They have a huge patio for outdoor seating, and a large amount of seating inside. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, chicken wings, chips, or any finger food, do not come here. It is strictly a bar with no food service. Speaking of service, there is no service on the patio or inside the bar. If you want a drink you go to the bar. The bar tender was super friendly and suggested the Sierra Nevada pale ale. If I am in that part of town again, I can see myself coming back and drifting off with a cold one. read more

This is one of my favorite bars in Reno. Lots of great times here, and for sure many more to come. Located right along the riverfront, it certainly has the feel of a local dive, and yet is not, really. As the name suggests, this is a bar that specializes in serving the beers from Sierra Nevada Brewing, and as such, you get a great selection of flagships and rotating seasonals, along with many non-Sierra beers, wines, and spirits. Just check up on the chalkboard, as you are sure to find at least a couple things to pique your interest. I always love going for just a normal pale, or a glass of the Knightro Stout, or like today, the No Middle Grounds Coffee IPA. Whatever you decide on, you can then plunk down at a table, or at the bar, or outside and drink up. Their outdoor seating area is small, but really nice, looking out over the park and the river. Definitely try to snag a seat out there if the weather's nice, but be sure to not take your drinks outside the fenced area, as I've seen people get in trouble. As for entertainment, there are plenty of games inside, and TVs streaming whatever sports might be on. As for downsides, there are only a few. Probably the biggest one is due to the fact it is both a small joint, and very popular, so the crowds can build up really fast. If there's some event going on in the neighborhood, then it might be almost impossible to get in. There is also no table service, and you have to go up to the bar for everything. This means that during really crowded times, this can lead to some backups and slowdowns. All in all, if you are hanging out down by the water, then this is a fantastic spot to drop in for a pint or two. And while there is no bar food available, the prices for the drinks are very reasonable and the service is usually really quick. That, and their amazing location, certainly earn them a spot on the list of must-visit taverns in downtown. Cheers! read more

This place is located right on the river walk, it has wonderful views of the Truckee river and it is a great place to people watch. We arrived at about 3:00 and the outdoor patio was fairly packed. Sierra Tap house is just a bar and serves no food. All of there beers are Sierra Nevada on tap. I settled for a lager. It was tasty, and quenched my thirst. As good as the beer is here, the view, sounds, and people watching is better. I will be back on a warm sunny afternoon. read more

Paul can do no wrong period. Perfect setting right next to the Truckee river and maybe, just maybe, he ordered perfect spring weather to compliment the day! Paul can do things like that! Although he harassed me for drinking red wine amidst the beer drinkers .... I think I'm still allow me to be one of his groupies! I'm working on bringing him to the 'red' side. Paul introduced us to his friend Tre from our Yelper relatives near or close to San Francisco. Nicest guy ever! I'm beginning to believe that all my family of Yelpers are pretty amazing people. Cool divey (but not overly divey) bar with board games like Sorry, Battleship, Connect 4, as well as shuffleboard and a pool table. There's a nice patio area outside as well. Cool! Good selection of beer on tap, friendly bartenders and cool crowd. It can get pretty busy here, so arrive a bit earlier if you're with a group of 3 or more. Note - this bar is a bit hard to find. It's hidden behind The Jungle. Go through the glass door between the cafe and jungle bar and it's downstairs straight ahead. read more

In my 9 years of living in Reno, I have patronized STH more than any other bar or liquor store in Reno. I come here to meet friends, watch sports games, and play pool. They also have an old school arcade game, although I don't think I have ever played it. The atmosphere of the bar is great. They have friendly bartenders, a clean bar, and enough room to move your elbows. My biggest turn-off at bars is the crowds, and the amount of time it takes to order/receive a drink. I give STH an A+ in this category. I get a bartender's attention within 30 seconds of walking up to the bar regardless if the seats are taken or not. The location is perfect, as well.
