I have been here a handful of times, before and after visiting Germany for Oktoberfest and the service and beer have always been stellar. With their closing, I really wished I paid more patronage to this place. After a long day and the start to my weekend, I came in for a beer and joked with the bartender for the boot - which they actually do have! While the kitchen is closed (which is a shame since the food was true traditional German cuisine), they still have a full bar. There is indoor and outdoor seating shared with R Town Pizza, and with such nice weather and table settings, it makes for the perfect late afternoon spot. I did not take any pictures of our food. I was there with my book club and we got to chatting. Everyone loved the meals. 2 of us ordered Oma's plate-schnitzel, cucumber salad and potato salad. Both sides were delicious. A unique to me potato salad because it wasn't mayo based. It was delicious. The schnitzel was also good it came with lemon slices, that gave it a fresh element. We found out they are closing at the end of the month which is disappointing, but future endeavors are in the works. I think the ratings for this place have been inflated by the influence of alcohol.... We came with friends from Germany (from Baden-Württemberg and Hessen) during "dry January" and tried the spaetzle (best described as pasta and bread had a baby), schnitzel (think like Japanese pork katsu with mushroom gravy), Rotkohl (red cabbage), Kartoffelsalat (vinegary potato salad), and curry bratwurst. Our German friends said none of these things tasted like they would in Germany. They also found the curry wurst to be "too spicy" (to which my husband and I couldn't help but giggle over because that's like calling an onion spicy-- while it had a slight sharpness to it, it's wasn't what us Americans would consider spicy). My husband really enjoyed the schnitzel with the mushroom gravy on top, but in my opinion I didn't taste anything that made me think I'd return for the food alone. If I were to return, I'd likely consider ordering the curry bratwurst again. Shame on me for showing up at a German Biergarten before lunch. Couldn't have a beer today anyway but a schnitzel and garlic tots would be fine. Service was great with offers of great German beers and explanations of the menu. With the schnitzel plate comes your choice of ketchup, ranch, spicy mustard or whole grain mustard. The schnitzel was pressed thin, battered and fried. Lemon juice tops it off. Very German schnitzel! Prost is decorated with flags, posters and soccer banners of Germany as any good Biergarten should be. I've been telling people for a while now, that these guys are maybe the best bet in the Reno area for German Food. Ultra authentic? Maybe not. Delicious and fun? Very much yes! This is a delightful little spot, located in the Reno Town Mall complex. The decorations are quaint and quirky, and the ambiance is very chill and easy going. There are usually some games or races on the TVs, you can saddle up to the bar, grab a table, or sit outside on the patio. Plus, the service here has usually been very polite and prompt, though at busy times it can take a minute to flag someone down. The menu here is, I think, just the right size. A selection of wursts, schnitzels, and other pub favorites. The wurst sandwiches are fantastic, and they have a few smaller portion options, too. Also, make sure to look at the daily specials behind the bar, as I got a fantastic grilled sausage with some sides of pickles and potato salad that really hit the spot. And of course, there is the Beer! Most libations here are German imports, and are very nice drinking beverages. You can get standard pints, liters, or dare yourself to go with the chug-challenge. Beyond that, there is also a full bar, with spirits, wine, and so on, should you be craving something different to sip on. And prices for everything I feel are incredibly reasonable, since the portions are pretty generous here. Brought my dad here for a little Oktoberfest lunch. Loved the schnitzel in salad and the sausages dish was solid. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating can also be close to the large openings to get fresh air and look outside while also being protected from the sun. It boils down to perspective. You're not in Bavaria. This isn't an authentic hofbräu. Enjoy what's offered at face value, you'll enjoy it that much more. It goes down easy and compliments many dishes. Might not be something your bartender would suggest, but I think it fits. As I said there are a few wonderful dishes to experience. You might try either of their Plates, which are like a sampler. If you order Tots, order them lightly salted. Personally, I vouch for the Bacon jam pretzel or the Beer Cheese pretzel. FIVE STARS! We rolled up with nine people in our group and all being younger (and not wanting to front a high tab) the server was very kind to help us split the bill for each person! Super grateful for that. Everything we ordered was delicious. From pretzels to wurst to curry tots it was all delicious and served timely! The beer was cold and frothy and hit the spot. We also loved guessing the German beer names and even though we definitely butchered the pronunciation it was still fun! I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed the German ambiance. They have a healthy space of outdoor seating as well as indoors. Almost feels like you were in Germany, especially the aroma of the good food and beer. I stopped in with my son before Hot August Nights for a quick bite before looking at the cars. They are right across the street from the Atlantis, so again, very convenient. I've had pretzels and beer in the past and never disappoint. This time I had the traditional German plate, which consisted of schnitzel, spaetzle, brown gravy and rotkohl. All, very good, but needed a little bit of salt. The only reason why I didn't go with 5 stars was because the service was a little lacking...not terrible, and maybe it was because they were slightly understaffed, but could have been a little more attentive. The smoked brat was hands-down my favorite--so flavorful and satisfying! We also ordered the garlic parm tots, and they were cooked to perfection--crispy without being overly greasy. And as a sauerkraut lover, I've got to give a nod to their kraut--nice and tangy, just how it should be. The pretzel was great, although a bit tough and dry. Probably not made fresh but reheated. Still great especially with the beer cheese. The schnitzel sandwich was flavorful with a great spice from the mustard sauce. The currywurst platter had amazing tater tots with a killer curry ketchup. One of the best I've had though I'm a sucker for a curry ketchup. The shining star for me was the onion brat with a savory bacon jam and salty beer cheese topped with loads of chopped white onion. After a recent Yelp event, decided to bring a couple of family members for lunch. We were served pretty quickly. I ordered the sausage sampler platter. It was so much I took half of it home and repurposed it as my appetizer for happy hour later that evening. Everyone eating my "leftovers" loved them. And no I didn't serve anything I partially ate. I served those I didn't touch. My sister and niece order the schnitzel platter. Everything was good except we didn't much care for the spatzel .. kind of gummy. And although I'm not German, I prefer my own red cabbage. Our experience this time around was disappointing. When we arrived, there were only two other tables. We sat ourselves and were promptly given menus by a waitress, who then returned to the bar. Over the next 10 minutes we waited for our waitress to come back as more tables arrived. We ordered beers, a pretzel, a bratwurst, and a schnitzel platter. Our beers arrived quickly, but then we watched as the newer tables, all of whom ordered after us, received their food before we did. Every table had similar orders to ours, yet no one checked on us. Our waitress had seemingly taken over bartending, and the other waitress--who walked past our table repeatedly--never acknowledged us. After waiting 40 minutes, we finally waved down our waitress to ask about our food. She responded flatly, "Well, everyone kind of ordered at the same time," despite the fact that we had clearly ordered first. No apology, no acknowledgment of the delay, and no offer to refresh our drinks. When our food finally arrived, my schnitzel was dry and overcooked, with just the tiniest sliver of lemon. Some extra lemon or traditional cranberries would have helped, but no one ever came back to ask how our meal was. The brat was delicious along with the pretzel and tots, our little guy was also happy to play with the chess pieces again. We did also noticed that every other table was offered free champagne for Valentine's Day--except for us. Our waitress was cold and seemed uninterested in being there. Mean!!! Not my favorite. It probably won't come back again. For those of you that follow me you know it is so rare that I give a three star to anyone. I always try to look for the very very best in each restaurant... However, in this case it was a little bit more difficult than others. Parking here is extremely simple and very easy to get from the parking lot to the pub. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is definitely a pub style, with high tops and picnic table style tables, and of course, sitting at the bar. I think if you're going to drink and just hang out play some boardgames or maybe some life-size Jenga games... Then this place could be really fun. When we were there, we noticed they have a scoreboard in front of the kitchen that is keeping track of people that have drink certain drinks, and a certain amount of time and eaten a large pretzel in a certain amount of time... So that's kind of fun. They also have a few spots around that have televisions so if you're going in there for a fight or for some sort of a sports event... I can see how this place might be fun. But if you're coming in for food, maybe reconsider that. I would say our experience coming there for lunch has some room from improvement on Service. There is definitely some opportunity for the servers to be more attentive and do a better job with asking questions and following up with us during our visit. I'm not sure if the pizza place next-door to it is owned by the same owners, but why we were there sitting there waiting for our food gentleman at the bar received a pizza from next-door. I thought that was kind of strange because this place had a menu... And food... So I thought it was kind of weird that they would let the next-door pizza place deliver a pizza to this guy at the bar?? I'm thinking maybe they own a place I don't know but it was a little strange. Now that I mentioned that, let's talk about the food. I think the presentation is super fun and I love the idea of serving them on planks/cutting boards. However, I wasn't a fan of the seasoning and flavoring... or lack there of, I should say. Everything we had, had the exact same funky flavor... after we were done, I was able to pinpoint it was from the oil it's being fried in. It was this really weird, stale funky flavoring that didn't leave my mouth for about an hour. Even with the beer I was Drinking. I'm not quite sure what type of oil they'reusing but the food wasn't something I enjoyed. I will say that what you see on the menu is what you get. If you want mustard for your schnitzel or for your sandwich, that is extremely dry, then you'll need to ask for that. Also, if you want mayo on your sandwich, you're gonna have to ask for that. If you want any kind of dipping condiments for your french fries or your tots, they're gonna have to specifically ask for that because there's nothing on the tables. Now, I could be really judgmental because I've been to so many other of these pub style restaurants... And I've had some pre-epic schnitzel in my time.... And some knock your socks off tots in my time. However, and unfortunately, I give the food a 1 star. I really hope this is something that the owner and or manager can take a look at and make some adjustments so that the food can match the theme. We're excited we found this place and are looking forward to coming back! We met the owner and chatted with him while sitting at the bar. Super cool guy. The service was great, the beer was delicious and we loved the rustic German vibe. Even though they serve a German menu they are friends with R Town Pizza next door and will let them walk your pizza over to you. I felt bad though because I didn't know they had a food menu. The server was very attentive to us and recommended we try the Ayinger Oktoberfest Marzen beer, which we got two half liters of. It was the perfect beer for an end of summer Friday afternoon.
