Well, we came and tried it but we certainly won't be back. Walking in, the stench of cigarette smoke permeates the dining area. We almost left from the smell, maybe we should have. Completely empty dining room save for one other table, at lunch time, also not a good sign. The waitress was nice enough but we could very clearly hear arguing in the kitchen throughout our time there. My husband ordered a BLTA and while it was fine, it was certainly nothing special and not worth the cost. The fries were okay but had a frozen taste to them. The onion rings were good and seemed fresh. My prime rib dip was awful, and for the first time in my life I sent it back. The meat was fatty and had NO flavor. Even with the aujus and the "horseradish sauce" I tasted absolutely nothing. The bread was soggy and falling apart, the cheese was thick and gluey and also flavorless. Overall it was just bad. Our other group member ordered the tri tip skewers and they were okay. They were a bit overcooked and again super underseasoned but they were at least edible. Overall it was not a pleasant dining experience and the food ranged from okay to bad. read more

I like to come here for the artichokes. Can't ever get it wrong although I like to aid a spoonful of garlic to mayo with lemon and make a yummy aioli. What has happened to this restaurant? Admittedly, we haven't dined here in over a year but we remember it to have decent food, especially the chicken piccata. Our latest visit was on a Sunday and as soon as we walked in, we noticed the heavy smell of cigarette smoke from the bar next door. We had hoped the smoke smell would get better but it didn't. My nose got stuffed up and my husband's eyes started to get irritated. The smoke was heavy during our entire meal. With that said, our young waiter was friendly but inefficient. The people that came in after us got served their drinks before us. It took forever to get a glass of water. The food was still OK but we won't be back based on the smoke smell. We were in town for a volleyball tournament and this place was across from our hotel, we were skeptical due to the parking lot for the complex being a ghost town but so glad we went for it, the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and onion rings hubby ordered the fajitas he said they were delish as well (he didn't offer me any ) my daughter ordered fettuccine and she loved it too. This place is the definition of a hidden gem! We visited Moxie's on a Friday night and they sat us right away. Our server Casey was kind and friendly to our 4-year-old, which always gives me the warm and fuzzies about any restaurant! We started with wine, clam chowder, and calamari fries, all of which came out super duper quick! The chowder was hot and amazing, probably one of the best clam chowders we've had in the area. Our server told us it was homemade, which explains the creamy dreamy texture and abundance of tender clams throughout! The calamari fries were also piping hot and perfectly crunchy, a fun twist on a familiar favorite. The tarter sauce and marinara were great accompaniments and seemed to change the flavor of the app, depending on which sauce you used. Our daughter went crazy for them too - score! Our entree arrived shortly thereafter - Moxie's Friday night special, PRIME RIB! Love when they can get it the exact temperature ordered, and they nailed the Medium Rare for us! When prime rib is perfectly cooked, there's not much you can say about it other than YUM! Au jus on the side was an amazing addition, though the meat hardly needed it. The baked potato was also very tasty, nearly creamy on the inside like any good potato should be. Even the veggies were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. There wasn't a thing on the plate that we didn't like! We've always skipped past Moxie's because we thought it was just slot machines and cocktails. We are so happy to be proven wrong!! They even have a completely separate dining room from the gaming side. Casey is freaking awesome, we wish we could get her level of friendliness and outstanding service everywhere we go! My wife and I came here about 1 pm on a Saturday. It was not very busy and we were seated right away. The place has two sides, the first says it is for 21 and older only. This area has the bar, slots and allows smoking. The other side is a dining area with one TV. Although we usually enjoy sitting at the bar and playing some slots, we sat in the dining area to avoid the smoke but could still smell it slightly on occasion. We both thought the dining area and restrooms were very clean and the menu has quite a few options. We ordered a small basket of onion rings for an appetizer. My wife ordered the chili cheeseburger with clam chowder as a side and I chose the patty melt with fries. The server did not write down our order. We take bets with each other about the accuracy of our order when it is taken and the server does not write it down. We do not understand not writing down the order, it just makes sense. Keep in mind there were about 4 other tables seated at any given time while we were there. Our food arrived in a fairly timely manner - it felt like it took a bit longer than expected since it wasn't busy. My fries were on the plate with my wife's chili burger and my wife's clam chowder was on the plate with my patty melt. We do not know the cause of the mix up, server, kitchen or both and it was not a big deal but the point was confirmed when the order is not written down, the chances for mistakes go up. The chili cheeseburger was good but the temperature could have been hotter. My wife said the clam chowder was okay but not great. I thought the patty melt was very tasty. We always like to go to Moxie's for comfort food and good drinks and service. Our power was out due to the Gold Ranch fire, so we went there for dinner. Dennis the server was so friendly and helpful. Several other people were there for the same reason and he was so nice to all of them! He really had a great, upbeat attitude and was very sympathetic. read more

Another great time at Moxie's! We stopped in on Saturday for drinks and snacks. They have the friendliest bartenders in town! They are so welcoming and provide excellent service every time. I love that they always have a large number of specials. We split the pork egg rolls and the potatoes skins. Both were perfectly cooked and oh so delicious. I've only just discovered Moxie's - after two years of living right by it. WOW! The food is great (they really have a wonderful chef), well everything I have tried. First time here. And this would be a 5 star review. However, I have one teeny tiny complaint. The reason I chose this Moxie's over the Caughlin Ranch one, and over M3, is the menu listed on the website. In particular they had a brie, fig dish as an appetizer. It sounded SOOOO good, I wanted it bad. Only to get to the restaurant and hear that the website has not been updated in months. BUMMER! Ok, now onto the good. Came in during Monday night football, let me just tell you this is a GREAT time to go. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Just us, it was as if we rented the whole place out. The 21+ Bar side was full, but we really enjoyed being on our own. Talk about private dining and having our own personal waitress. We started out with ordering a bottle of wine. They do allow you to bring in your own, there is a $10 corking fee. Not bad. We then ordered the Artichoke for an appetizer YUMMY! It was delicious, butter for dipping as well as an aioli. Mmmm. I ordered the Honey Chicken, and he ordered the Prime Rib Dip. I also had a bowl of clam chowder as my side. OMG Clam Chowder, it was delicious. It was a tiny bowl, I could have totally had a larger one, because it was that tasty. Both of our dinners were good, we ate everything. We then ended the evening with a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. We definitely left full and happy. I took a picture of our receipt because I was incredibly impressed with the prices. This wasn't on a happy hour or anything. (We recently ate at another restaurant on a "specials" kind of night and paid the same amount, and the food wasn't great) For sure recommend. Just don't trust the menu on the website. read more

My husband Joey asked me to do an update and it's well deserved. We had a free time the other night. Went in a little late. Empty I think one person was in there besides us. Bradley our waiter was fast, accommodating, professional and even took the time to explain the recipe of their chicken piccata. It beats Biscotti's by just a hare. It's the mushroom and cream mixed with everything else. My only issue due to COVID the menu changed leading to the removal of the brie and fig jam burger. Bradley had never heard of it because he started right after it was taken off. He did leave a message for the manager about it. My boyfriend and I went to Moxy's last weekend for lunch on his suggestion. He had told me about it a few times and I just never got the chance to stop in. We both smoke so we went to the smoking area (thumbs up Moxie's for having a smoking section in this day and age.) Moxie's has a very impressive, warm and inviting ambiance to it. The dark wood bar along with the modern lighting features compliment each other well. I appreciate the demographic during the lunch hour, it feels much more upscale than your typical "bar & lounge" would be and you can still watch sports if that is what you are their for. He had the Chicken Capris and I enjoyed an amazing Brie and Shrimp Quesadilla. The Quesadilla, while no doubt was awful for my waist line was one of the most surprisingly delectable things I have had in awhile. The waitress was very nice and very accommodating. The meal did not cost an arm and a leg and I will go back. I hope the other location is just as wonderful as this location. read more

We dined at Moxie's for lunch. The woman who served us was very sweet. The food was just ok. We ordered the San Francisco burger and it didn't have any seasoning. It tasted like ground beef on sourdough. My husband orders the fish and chips and the fries tasted like fish. I got the Moxie mixed green salad that was ok. This could be very good restaurant with great food and a very kind server. However, today/tonight there is only 1 server working the entire restaurant and working a double! I can't even fathom that the restaurant management would expect a server and customers to deal with that. I was looking around at the full restaurant almost every table was full and it was more than just our table that was getting irritated. No server can handle 10-12 tables at about 4 people per table. I think it was inappropriate and won't be back for a while. Hire more people and I'll come back. Tried it again last Sunday night and the place was packed with one server again. Took an hour and a half to eat a salad and I'm not kidding. Had to go sit on patio because the smoke was so strong in the restaurant that it made our eyes burn. This is in violation of clean indoor air act of 2006? Right? My chicken was over cooked. Complete trash don't waste your time. Unclaimed business on yelp? For me, I first moved here, I tried to find a place to watch my favorite NFL team and I live right next to this place. I've been to other bars here in Reno and no one compares to this place. They are extremely friendly and welcomed me within the first week I moved here. I think for any neighborhood environment like this, they need the friendly personalities like the employees here. Breakfast at a bar? It's a chance the hubby and I took when we used Yelp's "Nearby" feature and saw that Moxie's has been in the restaurant scene for a number of years and has only 18 reviews, many of which were written seemingly years ago. We called to make sure they were still offering the brunch menu, which they do provide on the weekends. When we arrived, we were invited to sit wherever we liked. We chose to take advantage of the lovely weather and check out their patio seating, of which our table had shade. Our hostess/server, Courtney, asked us for our drink requests while we looked over our menus. She made mention that she was also the bartender and that she enjoys making her specialty, a bloody Mary. My hubby is a fan of this tomato cocktail, so he decided to check out her supposed talent. I'm sure he'll describe more in detail in his review, but suffice it to say that he exclaimed, "Wow!" repeatedly several times, a reaction I don't often hear after he sips his breakfast drink of choice. I kept it simple with partaking a cup of joe with cream, for which my reaction was a simple "mmm". I had the eggs benedict, which is my typical go to for tryout the quality of a breakfast venue. Interestingly, Courtney, asked me if I liked my eggs runny or hard. I don't think I've ever had a server ask me that regarding poached eggs. I let her know that I would be greatly disappointed if they came out hard. My man decided upon lunch items; one of their hamburgers with a side of soup, and a soup and salad combo. The eggs were cooked to near perfection, sat neatly upon slices of ham, based on a toasted English muffin, all topped with seemingly bland hollandaise sauce. I was quite underwhelmed until my hubby reminded me that we were at a bar, and then I just dumped a bunch of Tobasco sauce to give it at least a hint of flavor. When I shared a bite with him, he thought he tasted a hint of lemon. I did not detect this at all. I did like the potatoes, which had some onions and diced peppers. The dish was edible, but not one that I will be reordering or recommending in the future. Courtney and our "bus boy", who was a friendly older gentleman, did provide great service, checking on us frequently without hovering, clearing the plates, and refilling our waters and my coffee. It's not often that we consume breakfast on the northwest side of town, but I might consider them again if we are in the neighborhood. I would be interested in returning for an evening and checking out their bar area with friends because we did notice a long high top table. Unfortunately, they do not have a Happy Hour. I can't believe this place is still here, and I'm not saying that in a rude way, just in a truly surprised way. Places like Moxie's usually don't last, especially when it's in the location it's in. I used to be a regular here way back when. My boyfriend at the time and I would eat at Moxie's at least once a week. We loved the seat-yourself-ease and the predictable quality. After years of completely forgetting its existence, I went to eat with a friend, last night. The same pictures hang on the wall, and I'm pretty sure the older gentleman who clears your table is the same man who refilled my water 8 years ago. It was a true trip down memory lane. Back when, all I would get was their fried chicken. I don't even really care for fried chicken, and never think, "Hey, you know what sounds good?" However, because their fried chicken comes with the most epic honey mustard in existence, it's the only option. Of course, I got the fried chicken last night. The chicken was extremely greasy and the fries didn't knock my socks off, but the honey mustard! It was heaven! I dipped my chicken, fries, and fingers in that tasty concoction. I was beyond pleased that it hadn't changed. Along with my fried chicken, I ordered a cup of the creamy mushroom soup. It was gluttonous. Insanely good. I will come back just for that. My friend had the tri tip dip. She said it was good, but the au jus was barely room temp. It took a while for our waitress to see to our table, so she sat waiting, while her sandwich got cold. She's a really easy-going person, had that been me, I would have been highly annoyed. Speaking of the service, it wasn't overly attentive or friendly. However, the above-mentioned man is very sweet and totally on it. He gets two thumbs up. Moxie's does food well, but I wouldn't say it's overly fabulous. Add that element to the so-so service, and you get an experience that's just "eh". When food is your business, it needs to be top notch. Same with service. Any time we are passing through the Reno area, we love to stop here. Good solid yummy food and nice, attentive waitpersons. A lot of it's richer than we eat anymore, but it's all tasty and well prepared. And we tend to go early because we're staying in one of the local campgrounds and we're hungry by the time we've gotten set up. I don't know how it gets later, but if you eat before the dinner crowd, it's very quiet and lightly attended, which we especially have appreciated since Covid. One nice thing is that they will bring out samples of a couple of beers if you're trying to decide between them. I think that's pretty classy. read more
