We have been here for a few dinners which was ok. Today we went for brunch and it was not good at all. Appetizers never showed up and we asked to remove them from our bill. Our server was apologetic but also didn't notice they never came. Biscuits and gravy with chorizo is what they gave us but they had options to have sausage gravy and we weren't asked which kind. Burger wasn't good, chicken sandwich and chicken and waffles were dry and just not a good experience. The food is expensive and doesn't seem worth it anymore. read more

Poorly lit gravel parking lot left a bad first impression, but I was still willing to give it a chance. Inside it is very tight seating, but that didn't bother me. The overall ambiance was fine. This unassuming joint by the highways is simply put the best restaurant in Johnson County. We have been three times and each experience has been thoughtful, with delicious food and good service. The chef will drop by your table and chat, and you can tell the passion he has for the restaurant and the business. They are being very careful during COVID so definitely give it a try if you have not yet -- this is a keeper for Lenexa for sure! read more

They've been around for a year? How did this little gem elude me for so many days, weeks and months? I am constantly hoping and praying that something like Sierra Grill will open near me... Don't get me wrong though - it's worth the drive. I used to work right around the corner from Sierra Grill - when it was... Wait for it... a Quizno's! Nothing against toasted subs, but this is now a vastly-different dining experience. Per usual, I will post some pictures from our meal. We ordered the Pork Belly Cassoulet as an appetizer. Sublime. So delicious! Then for the entree, I had the ribeye. My wife had the filet. The steaks were cooked perfectly - wood-fired grilling at its finest. We had to try the burnt ends - so tender and succulent. I should also mention that the salad dressings were all built from scratch, in house (and delicious). There's a full bar and some great dessert options, too. I took a carrot cake cookie home. Amazing. Lastly, I want to comment on the service and the owners. We were so well-taken care of. I'm rarely at a loss for a smart comment, having a little fun with a review (respectfully... my opinion) and whatever I can do to amuse myself and others in writing. Yelp is all about fun, giving a fair review and making it all fun, right? But this... This is damn serious food, some of the very best I've had in Kansas City. This place is out of control in a good way. There's something very, very special going on here and you're going to need to get here to figure it out. The pork belly cassoulet I had for lunch today... it was easily the best food I've eaten in a long time, anywhere. The beans were perfect, hints of spices I had trouble identifying but made my mouth water, the smoked pork belly with bits of char and fat, but not so much of all of it that you hated yourself later. No, there's genius at work here, and right now I'm at a loss to name something better in the region. And what a crazy location in the middle of nowhere you'd drive by 100 times and not think differently, unless you noticed the crowd. I'm gathering up some pals and heading back, soon. I would give the food a 5, but service only a 1, so average to a 3. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, and were immediately seated: a good start. It was busy, and the restaurant was quite noisy, so much so, that we had difficulty communicating with our server, both hearing the specials, and him taking our order. We ordered beverages and a Charcuterie Plate. Two of our party wanted the Beet Salad, but unfortunately, they were already out. We all decided on the house salad. When the Charcuterie Plate arrived, we ordered salads and entrees. We were not even half way through the Charcuterie when the salads arrived. The house salads were on small oval plates, nice presentation, with the greens mounded up, and to the very edge of the plate. That might not have been a problem, except the greens were left very large, and the lack of extra room made it difficult to cut without spilling off the plate. The two vinaigrette salads were slightly overdressed, and the two blue cheese were underdressed, so we requested more dressing. As I was enjoying the last piece of cheese, and before I had even moved my salad plate in front of me, the entrees arrived. I am sure the server did not read the disbelief in my expression, as he quickly move on. Everything was very tasty, and I am sure I would have enjoyed my meal much more, had it not become cold by the time I got halfway through it. BTW, we did get our extra dressing, however, it arrived after the entrees. The food is very good, however, for what I spent on dinner, I would have preferred not to feel like I was being rushed out of there. I will give this place another try, but for noise and service reasons, not at a busy time of the night. read more

Do not pass up on this place. You will however have to hold yourself back from knocking out some of the smug local skanks that have high opinions of themselves. They will stare you down when you walk in and then move on to their conversation about their new LV purse. The food however, was top notch. The owner is very hospitable and fun to visit with. They have a few unique drinks and local beers that standout as well. Our group of nine had zero complaints with a variety of menu items, appetizers, and drinks. Nice work! read more

Initial impressions were strange. Small building in the middle of an industrial/commercial area. No host so we were greeted by a bartender who nodded towards a back corner table and had us seat ourselves. Server greeted quick and was super friendly but took a long time to get menus. Prices were unexpected for a Johnson county restaurant (as much as people make fun, there aren't a lot of upscale restaurants in the area). Started with a house Old Fashioned and it was delicious (bar service was extremely slow) not too sweet but just enough. Ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer to start, grits were a tad runny (more like a soup or sauce than grits) but very delicious! For dinner I ordered the scallops and mushroom risotto. Both had great flavor although the risotto was undercooked and again, runny. My wife ordered the salmon and potato purée and it was hands down the best thing we tried here. I have been searching for the perfect steak for a long, long time, and I have now found it! The filet I had was perfectly seared and drizzled with a sauce that truly enhanced the flavor, without even a hint of the overpowering effect that you find in many sauces. The steak was served on a bed of pureed potatoes that had a hint of parmesan cheese and butter. The grilled asparagus was perfectly crispy and flavorful. Having found such excellence in preparation, taste, and presentation, I will be returning here to eat my way through the entire menu, at which point I will probably start at the top once more. I gave this artisan quality dining establishment 5 stars, but it would be 10 stars if there was such a thing! A true Master Chef resides here! read more

Our absolute favorite lunch spot of the moment. It's only been open 6 months. The chef just recently moved back to the area and took a stab at the local food scene with this restaurant. It's open Tuesday to Sunday and lunch is only Tuesday to Friday and the sandwiches are only available on the lunch menu. The inside is nice casual but I can see how it could flex to a little more upscale for dinner. About a third of the restaurant is the bar and there's an open kitchen concept. Service was friendly and fast. We started with the Onion Veloute soup. As you've already heard all about in the other reviews, it will not disappoint. Velvety and creamy consistency with a really nice flavor. Not overpowering, nicely tempered by the seasoning. I got the Steak Sandwich and she got the Brisket Sandwich and we went halvsies. The steak was tender, juicy, and very flavorful. We're usually disappointed by the blandness of the average steakhouse, but this was a completely different experience. The roasted mushrooms side were juicy and a perfect complement to the meal. As I was sitting there raving about the steak sandwich, my wife took a bite of the Brisket sandwich and went silent. Apparently it's a crowd favorite for a reason. I'm typically not that excited by brisket. It's typically dry and not particularly exciting. This was perfectly marbled meat covered with a housemade barbecue glace. They actually use the cow's feet in the pot to create a gelatinous consistency. Between the choice meat and the tasty aioli, it's the best sandwich I've ever eaten. It's my number one reason to go back as often as possible. My one request, add it to the dinner menu. The owner/chef was seen hand trimming choice cuts of beef. He came over several times to chat and tell us about the completely wood fired smoker with firewood he cut down on his parent's property. As for dessert, the brownie cheesecake was decent. The brownie part was really good, but the cheesecake half of the duo was average. The verdict is a huge thumbs up. I'm curious to try the dinner menu which is completely different and includes steaks alongside salmon and other offerings. I'm in town on business and picked this place based on rating and price and thought it was great. It appears to be relatively new so it's clean. You can see them cooking and grilling. I got the ribeye. It came with broccoli and mashed potatoes and was priced reasonably and was very tasty. The waiter and waitress were very polite and checked on my at reasonable times. Last night he was expediting, mentoring, visiting with patrons, supervising bar-tending, and even delivering to--go boxes. Whatever it takes to satisfy visitors seems to be the mandate of the day! The menu isn't the usual meandering plethora of plates you see very often these days. This menu reflects the many years of experience of the owner/chef in Las Vegas and other major city eateries, before opening this new restaurant. It's focused. It's diverse enough to allow virtually everyone to find something alluring, but not overly aggressive. This focus plays out with fresh, hot, attentively prepared plates of goodness delivered at the moment they are dished up. Yes, the Onion Veloute soup is a smooth, kiss of tasty goodness. Our meal included a very well prepared beef short-rib dinner, while I had the half smoked chicken. Both dishes were perfectly done, tender and moist, and kissed with smoke. I've read that the burger is really something to behold--but think that we'll do that one for lunch as at that meal, it comes with a side dish, which dinner service doesn't include. Kudos to the chefs! We have gone to so many places upscale, diners & dives and hands down, this has got to be the most flavorful meal we have had to date here in the Kansas City area. To find a meal that is perfectly seasoned is rare. Usually, you will get a WOW main entre and an "meh" side. We first ordered the Crostini with Salmon & caper...YUM!I got the Scallop special and it was phenomenal. The lobster risotto it sat on was done to perfection. My husband had the burger with a couple slices of smoked pork belly perfectly done! We finished with bread pudding topped with apple and caramel sauce...absolutely wicked! Have to say we were disappointed in our experience. We had heard nothing but great things about this restaurant so we made Valentines Day reservations. Service was slow. My chicken and pasta had very little flavor and the chicken had a lot of gristle in it. I also thought for chicken and pasta it was overpriced. If I could give 6 stars I would! My absolute favorite dish is the salmon with puréed potatoes and dill reduction sauce. Have also had steak with red wine reduction, and braised beef entree and those were amazing as well. Blackberry lemon martini is crisp and refreshing and Spicy margarita is on point. Every time we go the owner comes and speaks to every table. He is so hard-working and relatable--working hard even through COVID to keep fine dining alive!! Location is odd and out of the way but that's fine with me--it's a hidden gem. Knowledgeable, witty servers, relaxed atmosphere, amazing smells, meals that deliver in every way and an owner who cares enough to check on every customer. So far we've tried the salmon, ribeye, onion soup, the spare rib special and bread pudding. Husband says the mashed potatoes are "to die for!" ... he would go there just for the potatoes. In other news, he orders the bread pudding to take home. Arrive early or call for reservations, as more are discovering this buried treasure! read more

Even with the fabulous service and excellent food, I have reservations about spending the amount of $ in an atmosphere that lacks fine dining. The restaurant experience is like eating in a large warehouse space. There is no division between kitchen and bar table. The dining area is like a large warehouse with tables. No ambiance or privacy. Very noisy! Some architectural separation from kitchen and dining would help this, and make the eating experience enjoyable. It's a new space for SG, give them time. But I love a restaurant that has all those things AND I get to visit with the owner and hear a little bit about what it took to get to this point. Ryan Edwards was kind enough to visit with us for at least 20 minutes and as good as the food and drinks were (and it was damn good) the discussion with Chef Ryan made the evening!! Seriously a hidden gem. Perfect for a date night or a family meal or to take out of town guests. Food is amazing and they really care to make food the star. Though the seating area is small it allows the owner and chef to interact with customers and really make sure your experience is memorable. Have had the pork belly ragu, short ribs, scallops and the whipped potatoes are amazing too. I cannot recommend this place high enough and for the quality of meal the prices were completely reasonable and service top notch. You wont be disappointed. Only downside and minor nit is the bar selection but they do have their own craft cocktails and beer/wine available. These guys really live the mantra if quality is more important than quantity. read more

So happy we finally made it to try out Sierra Grill. I would have given five stars but the ambiance for the price range just wasn't there for me. However they did do a great job making it not feel like a fast food joint. When we made reservations we were not treated very well and I almost cancelled but glad we did not. Either just got the wrong person or it was a bad time because service was impeccable. We watched everyone work together throughout our meal and you can see that everyone cares about their job. The bar was always arranging things nicely and the front end made sure all of the plates going out were perfectly presented. I had heard rumors that the owner was not friendly so I asked the waitress and she confirmed that was not the case, in fact he isn't allowed on the floor because he is too nice and tends to invade your dinner. Now the food, we started with the house salad that I felt although very fresh with a great selection of homemade dressings was just a few bucks overpriced. We also shared a cup of the creamy onion soup and wish we would have just each got that. It was amazing and unlike any other I have had. They were out of the chicken and short rib, unfortunately the short rib is also in a couple of the appetizers but we went with the filet and the salmon. Looked exactly like all of the other pictures posted for these dishes at Sierra and tasted amazing. The salmon was crispy on top and they ask how you want it prepared so it was perfectly well done for me. My husband was happy with his steak and they let him sub his asparagus for another side, he went with the Brussels sprouts They state fried but they are more pan roasted and more delicious than I was expecting. The sauce on both dishes was incredible and the whipped potatoes are the epitome of comfort food. Food was just ok. When you read the menu it sounds very luxurious/robust but seemed more dainty/small. My braised beef grilled cheese sandwich didn't have the meaty cheesy goodness you expect from an item like that. The poutine was good but very similar in it not feeling as decadent as it is described on the menu. For the price & ambiance you'd expect it to be a little more special. read more
