The food was delicious and the people are absolutely amazing! The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very chill, modern, and beautiful.

Triune is one of those places where the energy pulls you in right away--and for the most part, the food delivers. Five of us went on a Friday night and decided to lean fully into the small plate approach. Instead of ordering entrées, we worked our way across the menu to see what Triune does best. It was the right call. The kitchen paced everything well, sending dishes out with just enough separation so the table never felt crowded. Several plates stood out. The crab dip, crispy Brussels sprouts, sticky shrimp, smoked and fried wings, and the chicken sliders were all excellent. Those are the reasons you come back. For dessert, we shared three options, and all delivered. No weak link in the group. The cocktail program is also worth mentioning. Very well done across the board. The Old Fashioned and Paper Fox were both strong, but the standout was the Margtini, their take on a margarita served up. Easily my favorite drink of the night. A few things kept the night from being perfect. We were seated in a booth near the bar, and it took longer than expected to get our first round of drinks. Our server returned to take our food order before the drinks arrived, which felt off given the setting. Also, when you're ordering a steady flow of small plates, refreshing plates periodically would make a big difference. Without that, flavors start to mix more than you'd like. Lastly, the crab dip is a generous portion, but it needs to be matched with enough bread. We ran out and requested more for $4, but it took close to 30 minutes to arrive. By then, the dip had cooled off, which took away from what was otherwise one of the best dishes of the night. Overall, a really strong experience. Great energy, creative menu, and several dishes and drinks that absolutely deliver. Dial in a few service details, and this easily becomes a place you visit often, not just once. read more

I wanted to love this place... my friend and I split 4 dishes and tried 2 mocktails and nothing wowed us. Every dish we tried had flavor combinations that didn't sit right with us. They need to update the descriptions of their drinks- We both tried the shrub which was described like a butterscotch soda... mine tasted like onions (the server admitted that somebody else commented earlier with the same thing). I took 2 sips then switched to another mocktail (the "upside down cake" one) which was better but not exciting. The steak had "chimichurri" that contained zero parsley, just shallots and vinegar. The Caesar was overdressed and had no croutons/crunch to balance the texture. The tiger shrimp could have been chargrilled (I think they were just... boiled or steamed?) and were in a very sweet sauce which needed some tang or spice to balance it. 4 shrimp for $25, yikes. Maybe it was just an off night but we weren't into it. The staff was super nice and also not great at clearing dirty dishes away. The ambiance was nice- we sat on the patio. Inside looked beautiful. Triune was a pleasant experience. I will say that when you approach, the side door that faces the street is locked. You will want to enter the door that looks like a service door on the patio side of the building that faces south. The host stand is just inside. The space is well lit and minimally decorated, with a charming and comfortable feel to it. We were seated at multiple tables pushed together, right by the kitchen. (I am impressed with what they turn out in that space, because the kitchen is not big!) I am unsure if this is a regular issue, but we were there when it was warm outside and were seated between the kitchen and a giant bank of windows. Those of us against the windows were in direct sun for almost the entire meal, and the air conditioning wasn't on. While a pleasant meal, it was uncomfortable. I ordered a really fantastic drink with INDIGO in the name, which was a blackberry and gin lemonade. Mom said she "could have had a pitcher" of it. Three of us (Aries, oy!) got the chicken & biscuit, though mine lacked arugula due to an allergy. There is noticeable sweetness from a honey drizzle, though I would not order this unless you can handle some heat. The sauce is delicious, a little hotter than expected, but I enjoyed it. There is a slab of chicken on each side of the biscuit, so two of us enjoyed half of the serving and saved the other half for later. read more

Came back and didn't have quite the same great experience. The menu and cocktail offerings rotate seasonally and this season just didn't speak to me. So, I ordered a Paper Plane, one of the easiest cocktails on the planet and having a good view of the bar, realized how much discussion was going into its preparation. Presented to me without a garnish and in a glass way too big for the cocktail. With everything we ordered to eat, there seemed to be something a little off. The arugula salad started great until there were offensive taste bombs of rosemary throughout. The scallops were supposed to be seared but were lukewarm warm on a plate of kimchi with mango sauce that just didn't pair well. Seems like the chef was trying too hard for novelty and lost site of taste and textures. Service was amazing and Laura was great. I asked about the scallop situation and she apologized by bringing us a dessert on the house. Will definitely go back before a downtown event, but probably only for small plates and a glass of wine. read more

First time visiting stopped in for brunch. we ordered the sweet potato poutine to share it was a four out of five the sweet potato was full of flavor light but with a nice crisp texture to it the meet with soft tender and full of flavor the egg was cooked just right we really enjoyed the dish. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which had a really nice flavor to the gravy with a hint of spice the biscuits were a little dense but overall worked with the thickness of the sauce and the biscuits and gravy while the potatoes were nice and crisp and full of flavor. my wife had the frittata with the bacon on the side the bacon seemed overcooked different hot as you really enjoyed as well as the salad she gave it a four out of five. I'll definitely be coming back to give dinner a try if you've never been here you definitely should come the staff was amazing the feel and Vibe of the restaurant was unique. read more

Triune has been on my list since it opened, but then it was recognized as one of the top new restaurants in the country and it shot to the top of my list. So, for Christmas, my fiancé and I take each other out to a fancy dinner, so my gift to my fiancé was a dinner at Triune. And we went on a Saturday night during restaurant week, which they weren't participating in, so it wasn't very busy. But the space is really very cool and vibes were great. I do wish the parking situation was a little more obvious and that parking lot across the street were properly paved, but it is what it is. We started with drinks - I got the Love Me Ginger (NA) and my fiance got the smoked old fashioned. Loved mine (I'm a sucker for prickly pear anything) and my fiancé smoked old-fashioned came with a cover on it that our sever removed and the smoke kind of lingered in the glass for a little bit. It was very cool and he enjoyed it. Then we started on our food orders. We happen to love a small plate menu because we love to try all kinds of things. We are bred people so we had to start with the 3 Panibus - came with a biscuit, focaccia, and pumpkin bread, I think. All 3 were delicious as were the accoutrements, but I think the focaccia was my favorite. Then, for why I knew I had to get to this restaurant, the crabspingoon dip. As suspected, a mashup up of crab Rangoon filling and spinach dip. SOOOO good. A must order if you love a creamy dip. We also ordered the peri peri chicken skewers, a half order of the short rib and the mushrooms (was trying to get some veg in there!). All 3 were delicious. The chicken was just on the right side of spicy for me, especially with the slaw underneath it. The mushrooms are really good too, with an Asian flavor. It just was the last thing delivered to us and we were already pretty full on everything else so it kind of fell flat but that doesn't mean it wasn't delicious. Our second star of the night with a short rib. I thought it was a very generous portion for a half order. And it was just out of this world. We finished the meal with the carrot cake bread pudding. What a delicious mashup, and my fiancé loves carrot cake so he was in heaven. My only real issue with the evening was at the pacing of the dishes, wasn't quite where they need to be. As I mentioned before the mushrooms came after everything else so we were full and didn't get as many "healthy" bites as I would have liked, but that was also our problem because the mushrooms were an afterthought for us so we weren't saving room to eat them but other than that, great vibes an great food. TLDR: This place missed the mark for me. The vibe and atmosphere was really cool, but they were out of soda water...which I feel like is a very important and basic thing to never run out of if you have a full bar. The food was... bland. The Sticky Jumbo Shrimp just tasted off. The Scallops were overcooked, house fries had NO SALT on them, and the CrabspinGood Dip didn't really taste like any of the things it was supposed to taste like. The only thing that I thought was actually delicious and worth coming back for was the 3 Panibus, and the Roasted Duck No Donald. The duck leg was nice and salty and tender. Made reservations to have a friend brunch and try Triune for the first time. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Everything we ate was delicious and thought out in execution. I started with my usual coffee and water when it's my first meal of the day. My friend and I proceeded to share the brussels sprouts as an appetizer and the smoked carrots with our main course. Both were cooked beautifully and had fantastic flavor. I then had the Egg Benny Trio, which was quite unique. I've never seen three different Benny options. Finally made it here for dinner! Everything we had was thoughtfully prepared and delicious! The Brussel sprouts were light and airy...almost reminded me of chicharrones--yes, that airy and crispy! The shrimp and grits were beautifully plated and just enough for a meal or sharing. The shrimp were smaller than I imagined, but I thoroughly enjoyed. The hanger steak was cooked to medium perfection with a distinct crust and herbaceous sauce that was worthy of a plate lick. The smoked carrots were the perfect co-star, too. The elotes and biscoff heath cheesecake didn't get photographed, but they were most definitely consumed (inhaled, really). This was my second visit (first was brunch) and I already know what I'm ordering when I return. Triune is the culinary experience that many new spots in KC want to be, but fail miserably. Mothers Day Brunch My family and I dined at Triune for Mothers Day and had a wonderful experience, from the food to the service things went off without a hitch. However, there are definitely still some cons, one was the layout and flow of the seating, yes it was a holiday so, it was crowded but the second half of the restaurant seemed to be where all the larger parties were sat and getting the the bathroom which is in a shared hallway could be difficult since people were seated in the aisle way. The noise level was another low point, this place can get very loud and with the industrial concrete floor and no buffers the sound echos and travels. We had a table of 5 and found it hard to hear each other during our meal, but I did like how we were sat right in front of the semi open kitchen, I could see food getting expedited and plated and for me that was interactive and fun. But, I may be in the minority. The food here is partially adventurous as well as, being somewhat approachable because the ingredients are very farm-to-table, things you've seen before. The roasted carrots are probably the best example of this, everyone has had a cooked carrot but, Triune uses tri-colored carrots and roasts them until they are tender but still have a slight bite. The sweetness from the baby carrots and the subtle spiciness from the generous drizzle of chili oil worked perfectly with the smokiness. I would say this dish is a must try, an easy 5/5. Now onto the elephant in the room, The Board, yes that's the actual name and it's around $25. Did I think it was worth it, personally, yes. However, the rest of my family didn't enjoy it too much. It is definitely a charcuterie board for the more adventurous and advanced palettes. I really liked the addition of smoked salmon because most boards don't include that but, the rhubarb compote was pretty bitter and abrasive. I could have done without it. The hard cheese on the board was a crowd favorite, I would guess it was a parm or manchego. Also, the dried figs and fruit everyone liked. Interestingly the board also came with a vat (okay that's an exaggeration) but a nice little tub of some kind of smoked fat/butter, I concluded it was smoked beef tallow but liquified, however keep in mind this was a wild guess and no one else at the table dared to try it. Pro tip- ask for more crustini or bread to accompany the board because you'll run out...which seems to happen often when it comes to charcuterie (or maybe I just adore carbs) Onto entrées, we ordered a few things but I only got pictures and remember two of them. One was an egg dish that didn't at all meet expectations however, I really liked it. I'm not sure what it was called on the menu but, what I do know is it wasn't labeled spicy and it most definitely was! The over easy egg was cooked perfectly with a runny center that melted into the rich rojo sauce. It resembled an eggs in purgatory or a Shakshouka but it had a blue corn tortilla disc underneath like a tostada. The dish screamed southwest flavors but it needed something to accompany the pool of spicy red liquid, it needed papas brava or crusty bread or more tortillas, it seemed incomplete, tasty but unfinished. Now, my Dad'a salad he ordered was another must order in my opinion. Yes, salads can be special and this one had the most melt in your mouth chunks of lardons that made the whole salad. I believe it was some rendition of a wedge but the salads and menu seem to rotate seasonally. I would say try Triune out if you want fun fusion food in a modern atmosphere, the menu seems to always offer something new so each experience seems fresh. All in all I thought the experience and meal deserved high marks all around. read more

Second time I brought a party of six because my first time was good and found out it was minority owned business. Environment is great and restaurant was pretty full. Of the six, four of us ordered steak and eggs which I think is where the problem be began.... I really think they gave us all one steak and tried to divide it out equally... We got a big spread and the highlights were definitely the Homemade bread, you get 3 diff picks and they were all delicious!! And the short rib was so tender and just melted in your mouth, i loved the subtle tang from the gochujang. We then had the peach shortcake. It was the perfect light dessert with an amazing cream that was not too sweet. The interior is gorgeous and the seating is super comfortable yet still elevated. I felt lucky when I called and was able to make same day reservations. They are still in their soft opening and hype is real. The main entrance is through the outdoor patio seating on the south side of the building ( not the entrance facing Washington ). The interior is industrial chic. The tuna wraps are a bit spicy from the chili oil and seared Rare. The octopus is exceptional, it's the most tender I've ever had. Brussel Sprouts are fried and delecious. The Sea Scallops are large and served with Chayote Squash ( OMG, So Delecious, I've never had Chayote Squash before ). In house pastry Chef. We had the strawberry shortcake. The strawberries are presented 3 ways. Fresh, purareed, and freeze dried crumbled on top. Everything was fantastic. Was so excited to try this place as they just opened and it did not disappoint! The inside is so cute and we got to sit right by the chefs window which was cool. Our server was great and very attentive. To eat, we started with the bread plate and the cornbread was the star of that show. Next we did the cubano sliders and that was my favorite thing. Outstanding food and drink near Kauffman Center! We visited Triune for a Friday happy hour and fell in love with the creative and flavorful food, adorable decor and patio seating! We were seated quickly and service was excellent, despite their being very busy. We ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts, satay, thick house bacon, tacos, Cubano pork sliders and peanut butter pie - each and every dish was amazing and I highly recommend any/all of them! As a veggie lover, I particularly appreciated that the Brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and savory. The thick house bacon was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, and also a unique standout. For drinks we ordered the tiramisu martini, night is young and Triune smoked old fashioned; each one was delicious and had its own, unique flavor. The service was just okay, no apology for having to wait and we felt our waiter just wasn't very enthusiastic. Nothing special done or even a "happy birthday" for the birthday we were celebrating. The dim lighting sets the mood & the vibe is there 1000%. It is great for date nights, GNO, & even work gatherings. They have a patio & the surrounding area out there is super cute with great lighting. Anyways, so we came for a date night & had a blast. We tried the CrabspinGoon Dip, Cubano Sliders & Pasta 7 Seas & man oh man was everything spectacular. I will say the pasta is very spicy, so if you don't like heat, this is not for you. I recently gave Triune a second chance and I'm happy to say I had an incredible dining experience. Whitney Coleman and her team took care of us the whole night, it was a night and day experience from the last time I dined at Triune. There was such attention to detail and our waitress did a great job of walking us through the menu and the chef even made sure to have meals prepared around my mom's gluten allergy which we appreciated so much! Everything we ate was fresh and full of flavor, my standout dish was the Elotes, I didn't try that my first time around and was blown away! I finally got to try the Tiramisu Martini, which was well worth the wait. I also tried the Chocolate Drop Martini, equally delicious! To start we had the The Board, House Fries, CrabspinGoon Dip, Kofta Meatballs, Mediterranean Cauliflower, Elotes, Salmon Crudo, and Burrata. It was more than enough for our table to share and every plate that came out was somehow better than the last. Our main courses were the Coffee Short Ribs (a table favorite) and the Chimichurri Steak that was packed with flavor. We ended the night with some sweet treats from their spring dessert menu that were light and refreshing. I want to thank Whitney and her amazing team again for giving us such a warm welcome and truly making my experience a memorable one. I can't wait to make my way back here during patio season for another martini, or brunch (the menu looks delicious).
