Came to Kansas City for a few days to visit some friends over NYE. I do a lot of research before I arrive, and I find the best restaurants in town. Gram & Dun was one of those restaurants. We show up for our reservations and get seated for a wonderful meal. Ambiance was surreal. The vibes inside were that of a modern Italian kitchen inside of a Southern parlor room. I know that doesn't make any sense, but it's true. And the restaurant looks out upon the quaint downtown street of this Kansas City suburb through giant, floor-to-ceiling windows. So beautiful. Service was great, as well. The server knew the menu very well, and was able to answer a few questions, guiding me to the correct thing to order. The apps, entrees, and dessert were all paced well, too. Service lead to a lovely evening. As for the food, we started off with the Not-So-Standard Potato Chips (parmesan, sauce flight: gold sauce, comeback sauce, black pepper bourbon ketchup). These were very good. House cooked chips that were just thick enough, had a good bite to them, and were absolutely covered in luscious parm. The sauce flight was fun, too. Keep the leftovers around to pair with the rest of your meal. Onto the Low Country Pimento Cheese (fried saltine crackers, candied black pepper bacon, bread & butter pickles, tomato jalapeño jam). Hillbilly charcuterie. Lots of fun to mix and match some bacon, some pickles, a little jam, all on those very unctuous Saltines. Very fun app. My main was the Brick Pressed Chicken (lemon & thyme brine, prosciutto & sausage bread pudding, caramelized cabbage, lemon & shallot cream sauce). Chicken was cooked to a charred perfection, that savory bread pudding was just an amazing as it sounds, and the cream sauce really brightened everything up. I don't usually get chicken, but I'm telling you, this was the chicken to get. I also got to try one of the nightly specials, some sort of cheesy parmesan pasta covered in black truffle shavings. It was as extravagant as it sounds. Fresh-made pastas, giant chunks of lobster, cheesy ooey gooey, and those truffle shavings add just a touch of class and umami that really made this a good pasta dish. We finished up with the Gram & Dun Bar (chocolate peanut and pretzel nougat, marshmallow cream cheese, chocolate mousse, peanut butter ice cream). Again, another thing I don't usually go for, the dessert bar, but this place did it in a way I haven't seen before. Each layer added to the dessert. Nougat, cream cheese, and mousse, all tied together with that cold, creamy peanut butter ice cream. So so good. Overall, as good as this place was on paper, Gram & Dun really blew me away. I'm surprised I've never reviewed this Kansas City staple of a restaurant on the Country Club Plaza, I've been coming here for years. I've had some amazing meals here, with exceptional service at the bar for happy hour as well as in the dining room for dinner. However, brunch service can be a little off sometimes (especially on Holidays like Easter or Mother's Day). My last time I was here was for their restaurant week 2026 menu and it was a fantastic experience, I had never dined here for restaurant week and I'll definitely return next year. I came for the tail end of lunch and ordered the fried oysters and the burger with fries. The oysters stole the show (I believe these are also on their happy hour menu but don't quote me on that). They were crispy coated in a cornmeal batter and tasted a touch briny without being too fishy. I loved the southern style take on this dish, it was served over a tremendous remoulade sauce that has the perfect amount of tanginess and creaminess. Now onto the smash burger, this is on the happy hour menu for $10 and all I can say is just order it! It's rich and meaty, with ooey gooey cheese. It has a classic "burger sauce" that I ask for an extra side of to dip my fries in because it's that good! The sweet onion and house made pickles help cut through all that beef and bacon, oh yeah did I mention there's salty chopped bacon on this burger too?! It has everything you want from a smash burger at a sit down restaurant. As far as brunch goes, the dishes are nice, there's nothing wrong with a classic brunch menu but I've had hit or miss service. The toast trio is my go-to I've had it a few times, on the menu they have named them "planks" but let's face it they're really just fancy topped toasts. I like to do all three so that I get a mix of savory and sweet. The two Benedicts on the menu are also very good, they're unique because one has pork belly and another has a crab cake. They do some drinks really well and some of the ones I've sampled on their rotating seasonal menus just don't do it for me. But, on their classic menu they have a drink called Fly Me To The Moon which if you like bourbon and aperol you should try, I like to switch it up from an old fashioned sometimes and since this has orange bitters and lemon it's familiar while still being a nice change. Also, a lot of mocktails are offered if you still want something refreshing without alcohol. Happy Hour is king here so if you're ever shopping on the plaza, need a place to meet with the girls, or on a date I would highly recommend Gram & Dun but, be aware it's only offered inside, in the bar area and not on the patio. It's also only 2 hours (3-5) Monday through Friday so plan ahead so you can make the most out of it! read more

Pros: Ambiance was beautiful. Really classy dining room with large windows looking out on the pretty streets of this suburb of Kansas City. Service was also really nice. Really nice server who knew the menu well. The food all came out very promptly and was hot and fresh. The food itself actually very unique for an elevated Southern restaurant. I feel like their all elevated Southern nowadays, but this place breaks the traditional mold with their menu items. Cons: I can't think of a single con. Maybe a few more Saltines on their pimento cheese app, but that's just nitpicking. Tips: Get the Low Country Pimento Cheese, get the Brick Pressed Chicken, and get the Gram & Dun Bar. Atmosphere is great! We love the decor and the setup of the entire restaurant and bar. Service is good, a little slow but busy for one bartender. The pork belly and the poached egg on the Benedict were way overcooked! The flavors were wonderful though. The cornflake oysters were the star! Tender, wonderful flavors, and fun to eat. Came in for my partner and I's anniversary, having never been I had my own perception of Gram and Dun from what I've heard through grapevine but wanted to give the place a fair shake. Our experience completely shattered my expectations. The service was really incredible, our server was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to make our decisions even though we got lost chit chatting over our cocktails. Which by the way were very unique and refreshing for a cold winter day. I never felt rushed and that made our night really incredible. We had grilled octopus and ahi tuna for our appetizers and wow oh wow, easily the best ahi tuna I've ever had. My partner and I devoured them as slowly as possible to savor the umami flavor. Truly a must if you like seafood and tuna specifically. The grilled octopus was done nicely as well, the flavor was more subtle but the char on the octopus gave each bite nice texture and flavor. Our entrees were delicious as well, the lemon salmon and risotto hit the spot. I only wish there was more as I cleaned my plate completely. A nice flavor combination. Lastly the braised beef was a perfect to warm up on a chilly winter evening. A classic to be sure, the sauce was so well developed and rich and the roast pulled apart beautifully. The setting was modern earthy vibes. The restaurant had an open floor plan with no doors that separated the inside and outside. I loved this, it gave the feel of being in a fancy patio. I love being surprised in a great way when it comes to restaurants who've been in Kansas City for some time. Prior to this weekend, I had only ever been here on summer afternoon/evenings to have cocktails on their fantastic patio. My first food visit was last weekend and I was blown away. This is my second visit to Gram & Dun. Customer service has been great both times. The atmosphere is nice. Food ordered by myself and my friends: two of us had the Brick Pressed Chicken with truffle potatoes. Another one had the side order of mac and cheese without bacon and chicken wontons. Drinks: I had the Smoking Dun. I love bourbon and this was really good! I had another drink and can't remember the name of it but it was good as well. My friend had the Berry Blonde Mocktail and she enjoyed it. I would give the food this go around a 6/10. Both my friend and I who had the chicken believe it needed more flavor and season. It was cooked well though. I love the truffle potatoes. The chicken wontons were pretty good. According to my friend the Mac and cheese could have a bit more flavor. I recently visited for a quick bite to eat with friends. Obviously the aesthetic and atmosphere is absolutely beautiful but what was the highlight of my meal were the GD Beignets . Truly the best I've ever had. They were soft and crispy with the perfect filling on the inside . I want to also highlight the service our server was a young black woman who was kinda having a bad day, she mentioned how her ex brought in another girl into the restaurant . Crisp on the outside but light and airy on the inside. The chicken was just ok. I would have preferred more seasoning on the chicken breast. It was also a bit pricey for what you get. My friend got brussel sprouts, which she shared. These were amazing! Definitely wished I order those. My mimosa was also really good. Spritz Your Way (Ritual Aperitivo & Fritz Mueller NA Sparkling) - bright, bubbly, and an incredible Aperol Spritz dupe. 9/10. **Note: The Aperol Spritz tastes quite close to the real thing, so if near-alcohol flavors are triggering, that's something to keep in mind! I made a reservation for last night at 7:45 for me and two of my girl friends. We were sat outside by the bar and were warned that there were some loud guests at the bar. Honestly they never bothered us and the atmosphere was amazing! The patio is so cute and welcoming. We started with the fried squash from the sides menu and they were so good! Here's my take couple of the dishes: The Burnt End Mac N Cheese was absolutely incredible. I'm a huge Mac & Cheese fan, and this one did not disappoint. The portion of burnt ends was generous, and the creamy mac was perfection. If you love Mac & Cheese, don't hesitate--just get it! The French Onion Burger was phenomenal. Typically, I might go for a steak at a nicer spot, but I was feeling curious about their burger, and I'm so glad I tried it. It was bursting with flavor, extra juicy, and absolutely delicious. The only thing I would change is more veggies--I'm a big fan of veggies with my meals, so next time I'll be sure to ask for extra. The Hanger Steak was pretty impressive too. Cooked to perfection, it was tender and flavorful. The sauce had a bit of a gochujang kick--tangy and sweet--which caught me off guard at first but actually paired really well with the steak. She lit candles for us, prepared the cake, just did a really nice job. They have a good menu (because they work with and support local vendors!) and fun cocktails to try. My bf got the catfish and said it was crispy and that he would recommend it. I got the seasonal curry and it was very good. OK WOW!!! Gram & Dun has been on my "wish list" of restaurants for a bit and I am so glad we went! First off, the ambiance and our seating was lovely. We were by the sliding doors which opened to the patio and in the evening with the rain, it was absolutely perfect. When it started pouring they did close the doors tho! Our server, Adriana I believe, was so kind! Didn't rush at at all, answered all our questions thoroughly, and was great overall. Between the three of us, we tried a variety of drinks. My boyfriend had the G&D Old Fashion which you can get with either bourbon, tequila, or rye. He chose tequila and it was so good! I had a class of the Chianti and our friend had the Pepper Princess mocktail. All were hits! For dinner we had the Baja blackened chicken salad, pan seared salmon, and the filet. Street parking was not really possible and it was a Thursday evening at 6pm so you should plan to park in the parking garage across the street. It is free! But our waiter had to wipe the entire table down! I felt terrible for him. He did get to joke with me when he handed me a knife for my entree. lol Be careful! The service was great! Our server was very attentive especially considering how busy it was. The food was good. I'm giving it 4 stars because while the food was good, it is very pricey and if I'm paying over a $125 for a two person dinner, it needs to be great. I had one drink ($12) but the rest was for 2 entrees and one dessert. My drink was just okay. I liked it enough to drink half but I had my partner and friend taste it and they both thought it tasted like medicine. I enjoyed the brick grilled chicken but it was a half chicken which I didn't figure out from the description and I only ate a smaller portion of it because I don't like dark meat chicken. It was not a large serving. The gratin potatoes were very good. I thought the Swiss chard was just in the way. I ate a few bites but the flavor it added wasn't good to me so I pushed it to the side. The rosemary and the sauce were yummy. The flavor was very good on the portion I ate. I gave the other part to my partner and he enjoyed it. My partner got the hanger steak and he really liked it. I had a small taste which was very good. He gave me a slice of the steak because I gave him half of my chicken but that piece was a bit chewy for me. The flavor was very good though. He also got a slice of pumpkin and raspberry cheesecake which he enjoyed. I passed on dessert because I felt like we had spent enough but a couple of my friends got the chocolate ganache and I was a little envious! I didn't get to taste but they said it was delicious! Our wait staff was attentive. Nice atmosphere- Unfortunately, poor quality meat was served in the hanger steak dinner meal.The meat was tough and difficult to swallow after trying to chew it. ( I put several bites into a napkin and ate other parts of the dish.) We said we wanted apps and drinks. They said we could then not sit on the patio. I was very confused and asked why. They said the owner said you have to order an entree to sit on the patio. I feel like this is not the way to go about business. I would understand a time limit for the patio, but forcing us to order a specific thing!? We definitely left and went somewhere else. What's funny is we ended up spending $250 on drinks and apps elsewhere. So they didn't want our $250!? Seems like a bad business move since so many plaza spots are closing! My fam and I thought we would grab drinks here as we had time to spare before dinner. We walked in and grabbed a high top table at the bar and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the restaurant was. My sister has a service animal and is needed as he is trained to attend to her needs every day. We were immediately approached by a man and he stated that we couldn't have any dogs in the restaurant. This is understandable if he wasn't a service animal but he was. We told the man this and his response was very rude and degrading. He said "but he's a chihuahua" .... The ADA does not restrict the type of dog breeds that can be service animals was our response. And he proceeded to say that she is responsible for anything that is to happen yet that is what you agree to when you sign the papers to have a service animal.
