Muni has been in my Yelp collection for well over a year. Maybe two. I don't know why it took me so long to get here, but I'm certainly glad that I made it. Muni is an Asian fusion restaurant that happens to have an amazing bar, wait staff and management. The menu is super creative and fun and not very big. I love all of those things. We brought our friends here for drinks and dinner after touring J. Rieger. This place is super cool, friendly and warm. I love the interior with bar seats available, high tops, and low tops. We had some lovely taquito egg roll appetizers and all four of our entrées were absolutely outstanding! We ordered churros for dessert to share and they were a big hit also. Our server Jourdan was delightful, she recommended the Chinoquiles which I ended up ordering. OMG delicious, the curry sauce was a unique addition that had me taking bite after bite. Found this place while searching for a restaurant in the river market area. The website had great photos of the food. Choices were unique and sounded delicious. I met up with some of my girl friends over the weekend to get lunch and we decided to try out muni because none of us had ever been, but we had all heard really great things. Firstly, parking can easily become a nightmare because it is right next to River Market, however after two loops around the block I managed to get a spot right out front! (Expect to pay to park no matter where you find a spot down there). They weren't too busy when we came in, so we were immediately sat in Jordan's section. Our service was absolutely outstanding, if you ever come here ask for Jordan because she was such a joy, very attentive to our drinks and had great recommendations. For drinks I got the bloody Mary and tried with the infused chili vodka - this may be the first time I was told a bloody Mary was spicy and it ACTUALLY had quite a kick to it. Definitely in my top 3 bloodys in KC now. For food, my best friend and I order the pork belly breakfast sandwich and the Chinoquiles, and we shared so we could try both! Who knew Thai and Mexican flavors meshed so well!! Everything was incredible, the sandwich had the most tender, not overcooked pork belly. Muni killed it with their brunch. The Pork Belly Breakfast Sando was very fulfilling and the porkey belly was oh so tender. The Breakfast Empanada had a good flaky crust and the dragon sauce that it came with was *chef's kiss*. Seriously, so good. Brunch wasn't the best, it was overly salty and I love salt. Now mind you it was the first week of brunch service so maybe things have changed, hopefully but needless to say I haven't been back for brunch since. Everyone raves about the burger, I've had it a few times and though it is good but, it isn't my favorite smash burger in the city. The things I really love at Muni are the drinks and the fusion appetizers, what I really don't love sometimes is the vibes. It markets itself as a neighborhood bar and eatery but, I live in the neighborhood and at times it seems it's for a very specific crowd- and one I don't fit in with. I've also had this discussion with another Yelper who lives in river market as well and they agreed. Maybe it's more for tourists? Anyways, here are the positives the Chorizo Rangoon is literally too good, it's making me crave it just talking about it. Other high points on the appetizer list are the Gapow Beef Empanada which mixes Asian and Mexican flavors flawlessly and always has such a nice flaky crust. Also, you had my heart at Birria dumplings- this is how fusion food should be, fun not too serious but also so freaking delicious. The drink menu at Muni is another positive because I love the Muni margarita during happy hour and also have come to enjoy the Suffering Bastard. This cocktail has a clean flavor profile with a little spice from the ginger beer, it's a bourbon and gin based drink that isn't overly spirit forward, so sometimes it's too easy to drink! As an old fashioned lover I've tried a lot in the city and it's hard to find one at $10, well not anymore! Muni has got you covered if you want a classic old fashioned without paying a premium price. There are pros and cons but, all in all I'm happy we have Muni in River Market... now that I'm thinking about it maybe I need to try brunch again and give it another shot. read more

Left a $15 tip on $75 bill (20%). Paid with my credit card. On my monthly statement, I see that they charged me $225, which means they helped themselves to a $150 tip instead of $15. This restaurant has no listed phone number so I could not even call them to correct this. I had to correct it with my credit card company instead. And the food is bland too, so I feel like they robbed me twice. Not gonna lie, at first my boyfriend and I weren't sure about this place. But, boy, were we wrong--Muni is so, so great! The cherry on top of this whole experience was our server, Diamond. She was so kind, very attentive despite how busy it was, and incredibly helpful when making our drink and food choices. The restaurant was too loud for conversation, but I could see individuals coming in for drinks or a quick bite before meandering elsewhere. As for food, I was impressed with the cook on the fried chicken sandwich. The meat wasn't overcooked, and the breading had nice flavor. I was also satisfied with the portion size and happy that it came with a side. We tried the crab rangoons, but we didn't feel like we'd order them again.
