Food: Garbage Salad - 8.5/10, loved the candied walnuts and the warm pork belly pieces. Cheese fries - 9/10, woah tons of flavor with the caramelized onions and chili crisp. Almost felt Asian inspired. Dip each fry in the garlic aioli for the perfect bite. Wish the fries were a bit more crispy though. Chicken cutlet - 8/10, well executed with a thin breaded chicken cutlet in a creamy macadamia nut sauce with herbs on top. Big portion size! Coffee Movement Ice Cream - 9.5/10, we loved this! The coffee flavor was strong and paired nicely with the light orange blossom flavor which brightened things up. Small portion but enough to share after a hefty meal. Vibe: There was a DJ spinning vinyl tracks during dinner Friday night and it was a vibe. We sat on the patio and the volume was perfect but can see how it can be a bit too loud inside. Service: All the staff members were super friendly. :) They are super busy and stretched thin though so you'll likely need to flag someone down if you need something as they don't check in on the table that frequently. read more

The most egregious experience I've had at a restaurant. This place had us wait for two hours, asked us to stand at the bar so they could remove our names, charged us for the wrong items and then accused us of not paying. A waitress followed us out of the restaurant. No apology or anything for all of this behavior. Not to mention the food is overpriced and mediocre at the very best. There are so many great restaurants in this neighborhood, and this is at the bottom! In fact, it's below the bottom. read more

The food was phenomenal and the vibe was immaculate. Side A is a listening bar, and it reminded me of spots in New York like Eavesdrop in Greenpoint. I'm usually skeptical when restaurants lead with music, but the sound here was perfectly balanced. It added to the atmosphere without ever feeling too loud or distracting. The food was some of the best I've had in a while, and I eat out a lot. Every salad was herbaceous and flavorful, and the chicken cutlet was a standout. The hazelnuts in the cutlet sauce were a fun surprise and made it feel special. Maybe I'm just used to New York pricing, but everything felt pretty reasonable. I left full and satisfied. The only downside was the service. We had a 7:00 reservation, were seated around 7:10, ordered at 7:15, and didn't get our kale salad until 8:10. We had to flag someone down to even get things moving. At one point a server even said "welcome in" like we had just arrived, even though we had been sitting there without food for almost an hour. That said, I would still go back. The food and the vibe are worth it. I just hope the service is a little sharper next time. read more

I mean, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Visited my daughter in the city, this is one of her regular spots. Our larger group was generously accommodated. From the ambience, to the service and the food. Every dish was over the top beautiful! Like, it was emotional . I'm slightly embarrassed at how I was fan girling . I know I have to come back every time I visit. read more

The coffee here is excellent! I tried the single-origin drip from DAK Yuzu Crew, which was outstanding. Unfortunately, the doughnuts were sold out when I arrived around noon. However, the soft serve was fantastic--perfect in texture, not too sweet, and with a smooth coffee flavor. There is a very hip ambiance, with good DJ music in the background. I guess this is the trend now, similar to HiNRG on Sundays. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. read more

It's not just atmosphere. Seriously. The food is orgasmic, and as I leave I'm still tantalizing over my next return. You can't go wrong whatever you may choose in the menu. I felt doted on my the staff, but still left to enjoy my wife, food, and vibe. Next date night will always start here. Until next time. read more

Great food, rushed experience. I had a great meal at Side A, but the experience felt super rushed. I get that it's a trendy spot right now, but after waiting 45mins for a table, being asked to give up our seats just 1.5 hrs into the meal felt abrupt (especially considering the pricey menu and the fact that I was only halfway through my third glass of wine). The check was dropped before we had a chance to order dessert. That said, the wine selection was excellent, and the DJ added a fun vibe. We ordered the artichoke dip, kale salad, and eggplant main, all amazing. Get the Coffee Movement soft serve. I would come here just for that. The biggest problem though: they need to fix the ventilation. It was so hot and smoky inside, more like a KBBQ place than a wine bar. I can still smell the restaurant on my sweater. As much as I enjoyed the food, I probably won't be back. I get the vibe they're going for, but the experience needs some fine-tuning. If you're planning a visit, I'd recommend grabbing a drink and enjoying the music outside instead (and grabbing that soft serve). read more

The most delicious food EVER! The owners and the chef and staff are a DREAM and the nicest people ever. You feel like you are part of the family there. I will be going back multiple times. Get the polenta, garbage salad (yes that's what it's called) and the Gnocchi and do NOT forget carrot cake & choc cake. YOUR WELCOME!! read more

Set up a reservation here late at night only to wait 40 minutes to be seated while a walk in 20 minutes after us was greeted and sat before us even though they said they were just ordering "drinks". The food was not worth the price at all. Very mediocre food and limited menu. Only good thing was the music. read more

Everything is perfect, the food, the vibe, the drink. And they have the best duck leg, in SF

I didn't even get to enjoy this place or did I even stay (which sucks because I was really excited to try it!) A good friend was visiting the city for the weekend and we decided to wrap up her visit at a trendy spot before she left! What a waste of a bus ride lol. So we get there and just stand at the door, there was room at the end of the bar and even open spaces at the tables. One of the servers was like be with you in a minute. Ok. But I saw him make laps several times at the same tables and completely ignore us for like 5 more minutes. That place is small too so why the overdone check ins on tables when customers like us are waiting!? Anyway, he comes up to us asks us if we have a reservation, we reply no and that we wish to sit at the bar and he was like "are you eating?" And we were like no just drinks and possibly a dessert to share and he was like "well bar is for eating so you guys can sit there for now but we might have to kick you out if people come in wanting to eat" my friend was already like nah. And then we were like ok we're fine maybe next time, then he notices that he might just lose business so he's like "but but you guys can sit outside and I'll put on the heat" we were like ok then sure. We sit outside and kid you not it's just barren and such a small little overhead heat lamp and the bench style seating was like a prison style metal bar. The drinks list was very limited and there was no cocktails even to choose from. We sat there another 10 minutes with a growing bad taste in our mouths until we were just like let's dip. And so we did. Idk, rude and abrupt service and I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the BAR was for food instead of people just wanting to have drinks like what kind of backwards service is that? Suffice to say, I won't even give them a try. read more

Loved this place! Each dish we had was sooo good. We had a buffalo style duck dish that was my personal favorite the sauce was to die for and the duck was cooked to perfection. We also had an amazing short rib gnocchi and the bone marrow did not miss. Service was also a fun experience, we chatted with some of the cooks at the counter and they were just as friendly as our server! read more

A fun concept that misses the mark on food and value. I was excited to have dinner at side a and had high expectations for my visit. The ambiance was cool, with a DJ spinning records (mainly of poppy 80s songs -- which I'm a big fan of.) The interior was nicely decorated and it's easy to carry on a conversation despite the music and somewhat narrow shape of the structure. As an aside, I was impressed with the high tech, bidet-seat toilet they had. That to me felt very avant-garde and high end! However, the big let down for me was the food, particularly for the prices charged. We tried the polenta starter ($21), chicken cutlet ($37) and cheeseburger ($35.) The polenta was underwhelming. The chicken cutlet was good, but not even close to being worth $37. It was a sizable, breaded breast piece in a sea of mustardy sauce with hazelnuts and some sort of dried fruit. I expected a $35 cheeseburger to be mind blowing, but it too was not even close to being worth the amount charged. It lacked flavor and the fries it came with were not seasoned enough for my liking. There was a bone with marrow that we were supposed to scrape onto the burger, but we were underwhelmed with the amount of marrow in the bone and didn't feel like the gimmick of including that with the burger added enough pizzazz to such an expensive plate. We were tempted to try the carrot cake, but at $18 we decided to pass seeing as how we weren't wowed enough with the expensive dishes up until that point. Overall, the experience was fine but with the dishes not justifying the prices, I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Went here on a Saturday night. Great vibes and service. Food was also great - the garbage salad and gnocchi were our favorites. Ordered 4 dishes between the two of us including the bone marrow as an appetizer instead of a side. Music was top tier. We will be back! read more

Came here for dinner service, this place is absolutely fantastic! Every dish we got was both innovative and comforting, they really hit home. My favorite was the chicken cutlet, I originally thought there was some start anise in the sauce but they actually use fennel in the brine. The burger was also an A+, they give a generous amount of bone marrow with the burger. I really don't think you can go wrong here. I will absolutely be back for their coffee soft serve! read more

My fav go-to restaurant now. Everything is tasty. Fav is the fish and beans. Normally don't even like beans, but these beans are great. Garbage salad doesn't look like much but also every bite is tasty (in a not healthy salad way). Crab risotto is perfection. So far everything I've tried exceeded my expectations, except for the short rib gnocchi - might not be salty enough for me, but I also have never really enjoyed a short rib dish at a fancy/nice restaurant. Surprised and disappointed this restaurant is less than 4 stars. I think it's one of the best restaurants in sf and I like their simple menu. I can eat that fish again and again and hope it never comes off the menu. For selfish reasons I don't mind the lower rating so it's easier to get seats. read more

One of the few restaurants I could go to over and over again. Each dish is so delicious and hearty. The perfect place to go order everything and split with your friends. Highly recommend! We arrived around 3:50 to get walk-in seating at the bar. They open at 4 and only serve drinks from 4-5, so be prepared to wait for food until then. The bar was completely full by 4:10. Ordered their broccolini and artichoke & spinach dip to start. Both were great - the broccolini was the one item I'd skip out on for next time. For entrees, we ordered the burger and gnocchi. Both were amazing but if I had to pick one I'd go with the gnocchi. Finally finished with their carrot cake (taking most of it home). Overall, everything was SO good and the staff were extremely friendly. Cant wait to go back! read more

Like someone else mentioned, the host was straight up mean when I asked to get on the waitlist for walk ins on Friday. They seemed annoyed they had to even consider walk ins and said "we have a waitlist and I can write you down but to be honest i'm not going to call you. it's not really a waitlist but if you are nearby and keep checking in you might get a table in 2 hours, we don't really go by order " I understand they may be overwhelmed but it was the most pretentious experience from waitstaff i've had in 10 years of living in San Francisco. Don't say you welcome walk ins on your website if you are going to be hostile to potential paying customers ! Get over yourselves. read more

Side A is a perfect place to go for incredible food, great wine, beautiful lighting, and delightful service. The portions are truly generous, and the staff is so kind and politely asked the chef a number of questions we had around allergies and substitutions. They're still in their first few weeks of service so expect them to get better and better with timing as they get used to the steady stream of folks excited to dine here. I visited Side A last night for a decadently delicious meal. I'm friends with one of the chefs (fun to watch him in the open kitchen!) and as the staff discovered this throughout the night they went out of their way to introduce themselves and welcome us in, which made for a great dining experience. Between us, we ordered the fried squid, chicken cutlet, burger, and carrot cake along with a glass of Chardonnay, a chilled red, and of course a high life. The fried squid was a fun southern-like take on calamari with a light breading and chow-chow in place of cocktail sauce. The chicken cutlet was my favorite of the night, perfectly crispy, great flavor, and a delicious sauce (which turned into fry dip real quick). The burger was unique and delicious, with amazing presentation. Finally the carrot cake was an incredible end to the meal (and great breakfast leftovers this morning). I was a little too excited for each dish and forgot to take photos. If you're planning to dine at Side A, know that you will be in an intimate setting, sitting close to other parties. Also the music is an important part of the atmosphere, so embrace the music and the atmosphere, it makes for a fun meal! All in all, a great meal and fun atmosphere! read more

Was excited to try this place out. Squash was good but a bit basic. Kale salad good for the first few bites, but the vinaigrette was quite sour and overpowering. The mains were BIG. Chicken cutlet was cooked well but the sauce was meh. Gnocchi was fine, nothing special, and meat was a bit stringy. Service was fine, waiters were nice, but the restaurant overall felt a bit impersonal. 3 stars because it was all fine but not sure I'd recommend it to friends. read more

Chef Parker and the whole team were so warm and welcoming with his wife selecting vinyls to play all night. Every single dish we picked was an explosion of flavor starting from the shrimp toast to bone marrow on to the risotto, buttered beans and chicken cutlet. They were all cooked to perfection and were exquisite. We ended with the carrot cake which we didn't leave a single crumb and I don't even like carrot cake. We will definitely be back! read more

EXTREMELY RUDE and HOSTILE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I asked the host about adding me onto the waitlist and they were so freaking rude and condescending. I have lived in the neighborhood my whole life and thought it would be cool to check out the "new" spot and see what they're about. It took me a few days to calm down from my horrible interaction. You realize this is what's wrong with SF now. I looked into the business and figured it out immediately. You have these imposters-NOT even with a lick of Bay Area ties opening a restaurant in the most culturally rich section of SF without any consideration to the neighborhood and what it stands for! Extremely rude, pretentious, eliteness, and definitely not serving of the neighborhood!! read more

Congratulations to Parker and Caroline on the opening of Side A!! My wife and I were very fortunate to have dined on the opening night and totally enjoyed the whole dining experience! Biggest highlight was the music played, but the food was not worth it at all in my opinion. I came here for dinner and before I was seated I was told the exact time when we would need to complete our meal so the table could be turned. It wasn't the best tone to start the meal. The space is white and well done, but it is really warm and smoky in there, and there were lots of smells throughout the meal. It seems like the ventilation from the kitchen, which is open and opposite the tables, is not working well. The music was nice but often times too loud to hold a conversation. The food was pretty solid - the eggplant was a sleeper hit! That said, the price point seems too high. Because of the tight time limit provided, we had servers coming by constantly to check in, remove plates, bring new dishes, etc to make sure we were progressing quickly, which made it difficult for us to have conversation. The dishes came nearly all at once rather than being coursed out. Overall, good food, ambiance and service could use improvement. I would go back, but not soon. read more

Love the staff here. Super friendly and welcoming. The food was great, strong list of wines and the vibes were chill.
