(Note: I am not some disgruntled nut job who writes negative reviews to relieve myself of my frustrations with the human race. I am a 60 year old male who lived in Thailand for five years, and I have eaten Thai food so many times that I have lost count. So, I know Thai food!)
I would give zero stars if that were possible. My wife and I had reservations for 7 pm on March 2. We chose Siam Square because we had had decent Thai food there a few years ago, and our newly engaged daughter and her fiance wanted Thai to celebrate their engagement.
When we arrived, there was no table reserved for us; the young lady at the front tried to get us to accept the table immediately behind her, which we did not want, so we had to wait ten minutes before the staff cleaned another table where no one had been seated.
Our waitress took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered chicken satay x 2 and Yum Woon Sen. The satay was, without exception, the worst I have ever been served. First of all, the strips were thin. Second, they had the texture of a rubber tire and had almost no flavor. Third, the peanut sauce looked like something squeezed out of a tube; it was dry and tasteless, and the amount supplied was ridiculously niggardly.
The Yum Woon Sen wasn't much better. Light on the flavor and using squid or octopus pieces that had the texture of pieces of a garden hose to provide bulk. God awful.
For our main dishes, my wife and daughter split an order of Pad See Ew; her fiance ordered Bangkok Fried Rice; and I ordered the Tropical Fried Rice. The Pad See Ew was okay, although my wife thought the bok choy was too bitter. The fried rice dishes were, however, horrible. Again, the worst I have ever been served. Mine was served looking more like a mound of brown rice, and that's it. It was so colorless and tasteless that I could only eat three bites before putting an end to my misery. (Note: I am as big as Jeff Saturday. I almost NEVER don't finish a restaurant meal. For me to quit after three bites, something has to be just horrible, which this dish was.) My future son-in-law, also a big guy who likes food, did not eat more than a third of his dish; he said his dish was similarly tasteless.
For desert, we ordered one Mango and Sticky Rice. The sticky rice was okay, although it did not have sesame seeds on top of the sweet sauce, but the mango was tough and not particularly sweet.
Yes, sorry, this is a long review, but I had a lot to write and could have written a lot more. My wife and I will never eat here again, and we will tell anyone who asks about our horrible experience. And we will also point them towards other Thai Restaurants in the greater Indy area where the food is consistently WAAAAAAAAY better. If you choose to eat at Siam Square after reading this review, then you don't know how good real Thai food can and should be. read more
