WOW! I use shyp a few times a month and seriously love it. I am extremley impressed and have grown to trust my relationship with this cute little app and the awesome people it calls on for me. Just two days ago I sent a package to an incorrect address and emailed the help desk about it. I was expecting to receive a response where i had to hash it out with a representative but NO! The first response i received from the help desk was one stating my issue was fixed! They had located the package as it was ALMOST about to be delivered to the WRONG location and they revoked that mama-jama! Then they sent it to the correct address at no extra charge! Horrible service. I've used these guys over a dozen times and have always given them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, they engage in unethical practices to take advantage of their customers by charging them more expensive packaging and shipping fees despite advertising otherwise. Case in point, I went to ship a keychain (smaller than a pack of tick tacks) and they charged me over $13 to ship it. Shyp engages in false advertising and when you contact customer support they answer in contradictory terms. I left a shipment with my doorman this morning (that was for a customer, mind you) and it met their size requirements. I got an email that the courier was not able to fit it in his or her vehicle so my shipment was cancelled. I am not in town anymore and this is a great inconvenience. When I inquired, customer service told me it had to meet these requirements: "Our general size dimension restrictions are as follows: No single dimension over 56" No 2 dimensions over 40" No single item exceeding 50 lbs Must fit in the backseat of a typical sedan vehicle." I responded and said that it did meet those requirements and their answer was: "While a package may fit within our size restriction guidelines, the courier must also be able to fit the item safely in their vehicle. Unfortunately, for this pick up item, the courier was unable to fit the package." Unfortunately, this response doesn't really make sense from a customer-service standpoint. If a service provider such as Shyp is going to impose dimensional requirements, the customer should rest assured that as long as he or she meets those requirements, the package can be picked up and shipped according to standard procedure. It is Shyp's responsibility as a business to match the right courier with the right shipment. If Shyp does not have couriers to accommodate the dimensional requirements which they, as a company, set forth, then it is imperative to make it clear via their website (and through customer service communications). read more

I want to leave negative stars! Signed up for an account last night. I was so excited to use Shyp. I was just raving on and on about how cool this service was. I spoke too soon. I knew it was too good to be true. The Hero that was far from a Hero showed up looking completely clueless. Initially, I thought he was mute. I had to fetch him from the front and introduce myself. Apparently his colleague drove off, went rogue, I don't know. Took him 15 minutes to hunt his colleague down. Finally showed him some speakers I wanted to "Shyp" and he tells me to hang on and walks outside. I get a call from a representative from Shyp stating that they cannot ship my speakers when my partner just shipped the same speakers a couple of weeks ago! I walked back outside to look for the driver. He took off on his bike without even saying anything!!! I have to run after him to figure out what the hell was going on!!! What a nightmare. I honestly love the concept of Shyp and really wanted to give 5 stars. The pickup is fast and on time and it saves a lot of my time since I have an online shop besides my full time work. However, they started doing lot of stuff ups recently.I received a delivery that was meant for someone else in my box previously and just yesterday a customer contacted me saying that she never received her delivery. When I checked with FedEx using the tracking number, it turns out Shyp printed out the label but never gave the package to FedEx to be shipped in the first place. So my package is lost somewhere in the Shyp facility. Seriously, how unprofessional and unreliable is that?!! The customer is furious at me for not shipping on time, so I just lost a customer due to Shyp. It is hard to even imagine something so simple that is made so confusing. Customer support thinks the East Bay is not the Bay Area. They provide a solution of you giving them an address where you don't live, where they can pick up your stuff, which sounds insane. The customer service rep seemed completely confused. Shyp's main model is that they send someone to your door to pick up your item, take it to their packaging facility, and send it. That's it. During' that simple process, they broke pottery I hand made for my mother's birthday before even mailing it and refused to reimburse me for it fairly. One time I accidentally stole my friend's keys in Seattle (it was after a lot of beer pong, don't ask) and brought them to San Francisco. He needed them within a few days. I thought to myself - Elliott, why don't you try Shyp? So I did. It was great - they came and picked up the item within 15 minutes and the keys were delivered within 2 days! I used to be a big fan of Shyp, well not anymore. After shipping a lot of items with them, I decided to ship my Devialet Phantom using Shyp (a $2,000 item). First, I didn't have a good feeling about the courier, he wasn't handling it with care, then I received it a few days later, completely ruined, essentially not working anymore. The whole tech for this speaker is enabled by its perfect rounded shape fyi.. Customer service was the worst, only refunding $100 for it. I am 100% sure this was ruined by the courier not the shipping company cause it was perfectly packed, so no way it happened during shipping, it got ruined / fell before they packed it. Customer service wise, this is so far from the way it should be handled by a young and growing startup. Guys at Shyp, there's an easy way to fix this, just reimburse the whole item, you made a mistake, shouldn't be that hard to make up for it. read more

Unfortunately, two of my boxes were returned to sender where I no longer live and then Shyp terminated their services in NYC. Their customer service is extremely difficult to get in touch with, no phone number, and doesn't help customers solve their problems. I have never left a Yelp review in my life, and here I am (!!!), angry as hell, writing my first one. DO. NOT. USE. SHYP. So, Shyp makes you fill in the dimensions of your items on their app so that they can estimate how much shipping your items will cost. It feels a bit pointless though, because for some odd reason, when they show up at your home to package your items, as one might assume, they actually just carry them out to a truck and then drive to their packaging warehouse. Let that sink in: They don't pad or protect your items, even if you've marked them fragile. They put them in the back of a truck and hope for the best. WTF. In my case, (surprise!) one of my items arrived to the warehouse damaged. After a long back and forth with customer service about this, I was offered a voucher. At one point in our conversation, the Shyp app notified me that the item in question had been shipped. However, the customer service employee was telling me just the opposite -- that it was waiting for my approval to send. TURNS OUT, the man that came to my house had also switched up the bar codes on my items (which are stickers that were applied DIRECTLY TO MY EXPENSIVE WOODEN TABLE, by the way), meaning that the item I'd pay extra $ on for fragile care, was going out without that warning on the box, and vice versa. Needless to say, the table arrived irreparably damaged (2/4 corners were completely destroyed), and it had even suffered water damage, of all things. Again, WTF. SO TO TOP IT ALL OFF, Shyp is refusing to pay me for my table. They told me that I should have signed up for additional insurance coverage (an option which is nearly hidden in the app, FYI), and my response to that is: The barcodes on my items were misplaced by Shyp. That is DIRECTLY the reason why the damage occurred to my item. Had I purchased additional coverage on my table, my table STILL would have been severely damaged because SHYP MISPLACED THE BAR CODES. This was no fault of mine! DO. NOT. USE. SHYP. I'M GLAD THE NYC BRANCH CLOSED. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, SHYP. Wow. Guys, sorry negative posters had such a horrible experience, especially Lily N, who seems to harbor a lot of hatred for this new start up (and possibly a lot of other things.) I personally think Shyp isn't a bad idea at all- and I think it works out pretty well if you are a person who is extremely busy with work/life. This review is for Shyp in Los Angeles. I had to return my textbook rentals to Amazon. It was getting very close to the return deadline and I had a very busy week. I had just missed the post office and I really wanted to get these books outta the way, so I looked up couriers and other shipping options and Shyp was among them. The Shyp "hero" they sent to pick up my book was a cutie, and he was right on time. Oh and they make the boxes/ packaging for you, so you don't have to scramble around town looking for boxes that fit whatever you are shipping. Love it!!! I have nothing but good things to say about Shyp. The application works very easily, the Shyp heroes (bike messengers & car deliveries) show up right away, and they package everything perfectly. My first Shyp was a road bike. Their packaging was impressive. It was delivered in 5 days SF to NYC, and at a really reasonable price. $160.00 for fork, frame,crank,wheels,tires and saddle. It would have taken me over two hours to package this thing the way they did it! My second Shyp was a box with picture frames, clay masks and glassware. All of which were perfectly packaged and in perfect order on arrival. I recall the box was about 40-50lbs and they mailed it for $90. I've also talked to support about a third shipment, and they were really quick and responsive. read more

These guys definitely redeemed themselves in my book. I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, but I think they deserve 5 as a business. I feel like I've had fantastic experiences with these guys and one, horrifying, short-lived experience. To that point, I think it means something that they came out at 5 in my book. My very first experience with them was 5-stars all the way. It was super easy, incredibly convenient and the goods shipped as necessary. The second time was a bit more rocky. I sent my friend a teddy bear and some Oreos and wound up with an $83 bill (minus a $30 credit). Needless to say I had a heart attack when I woke up and saw the email. I emailed them to ask what the fudge happened and they said 2-day shipping was selected. This is my only main beef left with Shyp. MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHIPPING RATE. I still don't believe I clicked it, but I'm a tech-savvy person and it seems like it has to be user-error, so if it is true, beware. Make SURE you choose the right shipping and stand behind it if you bill seems super off. I had a couple (pleasant) back and forth emails with these guys and they eventually refunded my money back to a normal standard shipping rate. I think they were attentive, calm (my first email wasn't) and did the right thing. Now I'll use them again (I'll just be super vigilant that my order is 100% correct). I'll also tell others about them. To that point: Shyp is a wonderful idea, a great business, the two Shyp Heroes I've had have been great. I'm looking forward to using them again. Soooooooo yea. I really hope they succeed and prosper as I just dread going back to stone age shipping, the lines, the parking, the USPS, UPS and FedEx forms, the packing hassles, etc. Shyp also does a remarkable job on foreign shipments, handling all the customs paperwork. I have used Shyp a lot and like the company. They care. They pack very carefully. They don't throw your stuff around. Their prices are G R E A T. If you live in a Shyp served area you have to be a masochist not to be a customer. Zero downside. HUGE upside. Like Uber or Handy, but for packages. I'd pay $5 to not wait in line at USPS and waste 30 min (or an hour) of my time and deal with the people (both the cashiers and the clientele). The concept and app is simple and their execution is super fast. You need to mail something? Just take a picture of it with the app, add the address, and schedule a pickup - within 15 min, someone will be there to collect your things. They'll put it in a box and package it for you and select the cheapest shipping service (UPS, USPS, FedEx). So easy, it's almost too good to be true. You can see where your courier is in the app as they make their way to you, and they will update your shipment in the app with the tracking info. One feature I'd love is if they told you what shipping method they ended up using - you can usually figure it out by the tracking number, but it would be nice to have. All in all, a great concept and well-executed. For anyone that needs to ship something out and doesn't want to go through the hassle of finding the right sized box or dealing with the horribly inefficient post office, this may be a Godsend for you. I've used it a few times and always impressed by - how quickly someone shows up to collect my package - how efficient the whole thing is they don't provide tracking for the package en route and confirmation of final delivery can take a a little longer but i've never had any issues and everything gets safely delivered. Their latest integration with ebay is AWESOME - as a seller you can now sign it via Shyp and the app figures out what you need shipped, where to etc. Seamless and super easy. Thank you, Shyp, for letting me never again have to figure out how to get to the post office/UPS/FedEx during business hours and then wait in some horrible line that rivals the DMV. I've used Shyp when I needed something shipped FAST (someone else's keys I forgot to return!) and for heaps of returns that I didn't want to lug to various locations. Totally worth $5. The couriers I've met come quickly (10-15 minutes and I love the real time map tracking), are super friendly and helpful, and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. One area of room for improvement: Shyp seems to confuse names on the tracking details when there are multiple accounts/address, but this isn't a big deal. read more

UPDATE: After posting my yelp review, Shyp reimbursed me for the broken items. Accordingly, I have upgraded them to 3 stars. Summary of my experience: I needed to ship a set of plates. I originally received the plates from the store in a special box with special padding. Knowing that I was going to re-ship the plates to a friend, I kept them in this special box with this special padding. I then hired shyp to deliver the plates to my friend and told the shyp "hero" NOT to repackage the plates. She assured me they would use my original packaging. Their FAQ also says they will always use original packaging. So, as you may have guessed, they repackaged the plates. And did a terrible job of it too: big empty brown box without padding. My friend was pretty upset when she opened the box to find a pile of shattered plate pieces. The plates were worth $149, so I asked Shyp for the cost of the plates. I provided them with pictures of the awesome original packaging, their terrible packaging and a receipt for the plates indicating the $149 price tag. After about a month of emailing back and forth, they reimbursed me the full $149. read more

Its amazing that people either love or hate Shyp. I was a lover and now I'm a hater because they wasted my time with substandard help and support. Add me to the list of people who are done with Shyp. I am forgiving of problems but I'm not forgiving of poor communication. If anything goes wrong good luck, you will have to SCHEDULE an appointment like at the DMV. Email support? Two automated answers incongruent with the question I asked. I'm dead in the water and writing off Shyp for good. I just had someone use your service to return a piece of art they'd used in San Fransisco and I was VERY UNHAPPY with the way you packed it. My friend packed it in a box that fit the whole thing, you took it out and put it in a smaller box, in doing so you had to bend part of the piece to get it in your box. I can't believe you did this. I've spent approximately $2k shipping items with Shyp. Unfortunately I have had a terrible experience and cannot recommend them. I've uploaded pictures of the delicate candelabra they broke and their disingenuous and unapologetic emails they followed up with once they informed me they broke my item en route to their facility to be packaged and mailed. When the "Shyp hero" arrived I informed him how fragile my candle holder was and stressed how important it was for it to be handled with care. Instead of handling it with care, it was apparently thrown into his car along with the rest of my items and broken on the drive to their warehouse. When I scheduled my pickup, I took photos of everything needing to be mailed out as they require. Shyp states they need the photos to ensure the proper vehicle is sent out to pick up your items. I also emailed Shyp before I arranged pickup, email thread uploaded for reference, requesting a van or truck instead of a car since I had large mirrors, many pieces of art & a small vanity and bench being mailed. My email was ignored and never responded to by Shyp. Instead a courier came with a small car that was not an appropriate vehicle for all the items needing to be transported. Because of this, all of my costly & fragile items were crammed into a small car & subsequently, my candelabra was broken. I asked the "Shyp hero" repeatedly if his Prius was big and safe enough to fit all my items as I requested a van & was very concerned the wrong type of car was sent. He ensured me it was. I would expect a professional shipping company to also come with the correct supplies to pick up your items and transport safely to their warehouse. Instead the courier came with small bags that were completely useless for my items being picked up and that offered no protection. Boxes and padding should have been used to place my items in the car, especially since they knew in advance what they were picking up. Instead they came completely unprepared & my item was damaged. I have dozens of boxes en route internationally that contain several thousand dollars worth of other fragile decorative items that I'm terrified were packaged improperly and are going to arrive at their destination broken. Shyp is an extremely unprofessional company that you should not trust for valuable and large shipments. read more

Sold my TV and when payment was received, my listing instantly showed up on my Shyp app. I clicked pickup, and just like uber, connected me to driver who I coild track coming to me. Once there, picked up my TV, and voila...gone, off to my buyer. Tracked every step and 6 days later (shipped to East Coast), my buyer confirmed receipt and said TV was expertly packed and delivered for same estimated charge on ebay!! Straight to the point. High-end expensive headphones in immaculate condition were shipped to me using their service, I have paid for insurance extra. Headphones arrived with crack all around cans wooden trim. We filed an insurance claim (this is what we paid for). After a month of going back and forth they denied claim but told us that they would cover repair. Got an invoice for repair and send it to them. After seeing the invoice (probably the didn't expect that we'll provide it) they denied it again saying that "we do not believe that these hairline fractures on the wooden rings were caused as a result of mishandling by either Shyp or the carrier". It's not the question of believe or not, it's a question of 2 facts: 1) we paid for insurance 2) headphones did not have any damages prior shipping and arrived damaged. Their insurance is a joke, or rather scam, or rather fraud, call it as you want but don't expect from them any help if something goes wrong with your shipped items. As many stated in reviews - they deny everything. Just ship with USPS and get their insurance, at least it works. One start, guys are horrible. read more

Very disappointing. I was trying to ship a guitar to my brother in Australia, from New York and they sent me an email confirming that it would cost $250 dollars, for 3 day Fedex. After one day, they went back on their word and said it was no longer available and that it would now cost $640 dollars, only offering a 10% discount because of the 'confusion'. Pricing - Shyp charged a significant premium above what UPS would've charged me (before I moved from SF I had done a price quote at the UPS store. Despite the price difference I decided to use Shyp to spare my friend the hassle since she was doing me a huge favor shipping my items to me) 2. Timing - Through Shyp my items took several days longer to arrive than if I had gone to fedex myself. Save yourself the time, money and frustration and go to the post office/ups/fedex store yourself. We used Shyp a few times when they were first starting out--they were giving great discounts, and though still more a bit more expensive than going to the post office (though rightfully so), they were extremely convenient, which was great. And then they stopped providing the discounts as they gained more traction, and became obscenely expensive, but were still more convenient then going to the post office. On our last time using Shyp, we paid a ridiculous amount (for the convenience) to ship our closest friends a very expensive and sentimental wedding gift internationally. Needless to say they never received the package. When I reached out to Shyp about this, they claimed that UPS tried to contact the recipients multiple times for pickup/delivery. In reality, there was not even one attempt to contact them--no notes, no calls, nothing. Next, they tried to blame it on customs fees, saying that since we didn't pay custom fees, the package couldn't make it into the UK. Even if this new spin was true, why were we not told about this when purchasing the international shipping? Should this not have been included in the total cost? We would have happily paid, but since we were unaware, we didn't. Finally, after weeks of going back and forth and receiving various excuses from them, Shyp's last response was that UPS said 'The receiver does not want the product and refused the delivery' and the package has been abandoned.' Abandoned?! They then refunded the shipping, but would do nothing to cover, at the very least, the cost of the package itself--nothing can be done about the sentimental value and the fact that our closest friends didn't get a wedding gift from us at this point, but some monetary compensation for the massive inconvenience would have been appreciated. I know they are a startup, but if they want to actually acquire more customers, they shouldn't ABANDON people's packages and then proceed to treat them like shit. Attempted to use Shyp next-day-delivery to send my passport since my wallet was lost during a business trip and I needed an ID to fly back. Day before my flight, passport still hasn't arrived. Turns out Shyp never sent it and were waiting for me to call and check -- stating that they needed additional confirmation, though they didn't ask for it in the app or via an email. I wouldn't recommend this service for urgent items -- they're just unreliable. Next time I'll avoid the headache and an almost missed flight. read more

One of the things I hate doing is visiting USPS/UPS/FedEx stores - I think it's a complete waste of time. Four days later it arrived at my new house. They loosened the strings, wrapped it really well with bubble wrap, and put it in a large cardboard box. It cost $49. Super happy with Shyp! Original review below. Shyp did fix everything and got all of the packages sorted out. It took some research on my end but I tracked down the ebay listing for the item I received, got in touch with that seller, got them in touch with Shyp. My item arrived quickly and Shyp provided overnight service to get the other person's item to them. It was a mess initially but they did the right thing to sort it out. First and hopefully last experience with Shyp: I ordered an item. The seller sent it. Shyp mixed it up with another item from another seller and put the wrong label on the box. Now I have several hundred dollars floating around in the ether and no clear path to my item. Shyp customer service (now that they're answering the phone) says they'll have someone email me within 24 hours to ask for more specifics about what item I received and try to figure out where it was supposed to go. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Not only are waiting for multiple other parties who may or may not have received the wrong goods and/or already started their own return processes to collaborate and help get everything sorted out, Shyp has a turn around time of multiple business days. Hopefully it was just these 2 packages that were mixed up and finding the person that received my order should be easy. Even more hopefully the person who received my item doesn't decide to just keep it. As a buyer this company is a major headache. I'm trying to be helpful and get it sorted out but the temptation to just turn around and file a claim is strong, especially when I look at Shyp's response time and think "ok, so at least 4 parties, 24 hour turn around for each communication + re-shipping from where ever the mixed up items went... shouldn't be more than 6-8 weeks for a resolution." I use Shyp to pickup my Goodwill Donations and to ship heavier/larger items. Lewis has been my 'Shyp Hero' and is always fast & friendly. Shipping cost ends up being way cheaper than I originally estimated if I had just done it myself. This is a great service to have in San Francisco, I'm getting rid of all my junk! read more
