It's been five years since the last review so it was definitely time for an update and add a few updated pictures. We arrived here on a Tuesday during happy hour when the drinks are pretty cheap. They do have a handful of craft beers on tap and they do have a full bar, even frozen margaritas. I got the shrimp plate and my wife decided on the expensive red snapper which was about $38. The snapper was wonderfully fried and absolutely delicious she said. My shrimp plate lived up to expectations. My 8 ounce frozen margaritas were also worth every penny. Two things I was surprised not to see, there is no fish and chips plate other than catfish, and they do not have any vinegar. If you're looking to have a private party, they actually have an enclosed room off to the side which can fit quite a few people. It's tough to get five stars out of me, but they definitely have the right formula working for them here with great food at a great price with good service. I also like the fact they don't charge you 3% for using a credit card. Definitely one of the best spots on the island to get your seafood fix. read more

I have been to their other location, but this is my first time coming to this one. We came for (HH) and I believe, this is the only location that has HH. It's a nice space and is decently sized. We sat at the bar, and HH prices are available in the entire restaurant. Happy hour is M-F from 4pm-7pm. This happy hour did not disappoint. Great food and great value. Happy hour wine is $5.25. Draft beers are $5 and imports are $4.25. We shared an Italian Salad for $11.75 (it's not on happy hour and a pic is attached). It was really good and we really enjoyed it. The real star of the show was the catfish. We got it fried and the HH price was $6.25 (pic attached). It was amazing and they give you an ample amount. We even got another order to go. The bartender/waiter was very friendly and provided good service. This place is a must try for happy hour. read more

It's my fault. I don't look carefully enough at the photos to realize that the shrimp and onion rings are probably frozen. Nothing hand battered. And the food stunk like they haven't changed the freeze. The hushpuppies smelled like fish from the grease. Spending $80 for three people to eat lunch was ridiculous. You are right by the Gulf of Mexico. And you cook frozen shrimp. I asked the little guy behind the counter if they are selling frozen shrimp and he confirmed. This place is a joke! read more

My neighbors who are originally from Galveston recommended this place so we had to try it. The seat yourself sign was out so we chose a table by the bar. Very casual atmosphere. My mom and her bestie always come to this place and I was with them this time and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how great it was. The food was really, really good. A few of us went for happy hour, based off a referral. The atmosphere was great. Food was good. Service was okay. Our waiter was young and still learning and he tried really hard. I would definitely go back, if for nothing else, for the shrimp stack. The drink happy hour is lacking. It's beer, wine or wells... but it's until 7p so that's good. The food was good. Well...when we arrived it was empty which of course makes you wonder if the place is any good. We walk in and were immediately greeted with smiles. Our waiter was Ray Vaughn who has the sweetest accent! He was attentive and helped me with a slight issue that I was fine with the issue, but he was willing to go the extra mile. I love the original Shrimp N Stuff, so I knew I would be a fan of their downtown location, too. There is ample parking available, and the service was great. Everyone was so friendly. I am a big fan of their grilled fish, and the combo was excellent. I got an extra bag of hush puppies and they were a little too greasy for my liking. Needed a lent option on a Friday while traveling. I actually don't eat seafood and actually enjoyed the blackened tilapia that I order. It was fresh, not super fishy in taste. Sweet potato fries were great. My steamed veggies were practically raw though. Husband also order fish and fries. He got a bigger portion than me for his type of fish. The food at this place always exceeds expectations. It is truly where most of us locals go after church on Sunday or take friends to for a fresh seafood meal. You can't beat the gumbo or the etufee. Ask for their shrimp or lobster special on Sunday. Plain ole Gulf shrimp or oyster poe-boys are excellent. On our last trip to Galveston, we left early enough so we could go straight to shrimp and stuff for lunch. They have two locations - and both have very good food. I liked the newer one better. My husband and I split the seafood platter which consists of hush puppies, shrimp, french fries, fried fish and besitos. I had never heard of besitos, which are "gulf shrimp stuffed with pepper jack cheese, wrapped in bacon and deep fried, served with ranch dressing". They were delicious. There was more than enough for the two of us and we enjoyed all of the food. The only thing I did not like was the tartar sauce. Not sure why, just did not care for the taste of it. They were fairly busy and the service was average. This new location on Avenue O does not have "character" like the old location, but it is new! read more

We were around 40 folks from Houston. They accommodated us and gave us separate checks. Mind you, some things are not on the menu. Just ask! They do have a single fish taco. Additionally, they do have coconut shrimp. My friend asked and they delivered. The fish taco had a tasty Chipotle type sauce on and came with a black bean and corn relish. My friend gave me her coleslaw. It was good and not swimming in dressing. I ordered a bread pudding. It's dense, delicious, and topped with a caramel sauce. We came in on a Monday evening. Most Mondays in Galveston, a lot of restaurants are closed as that is usually a slow day. For some reason it was not slow at ShrimpNStuff Downtown this Monday. There were only 3 front of house staff. One waiter was very busy with a very large party and several small ones. One waiter (Rhaevaughn) was covering tables and the bar. And then there was the superhero of the evening, Javoy. Javoy was bussing tables, handing out menus and silverware, bringing out food & drinks, and moving all over the place. I don't think I saw him stop the whole time we were there. Normally in a busy restaurant with minimal staff, there are dirty tables everywhere. It is just the last thing to worry about. One this night, with Javoy, no dirty tables sat for long. Our official waiter was Rhaevaughn, and he was great, but it was Javoy who was the star that night. Great job, guys! read more

This place is a must try! The service was wonderful. I got the special of side salad and half order of seafood and sausage Cajun pasta. I don't like seafood so I asked them to leave that out but the sausage was so so good and pasta was just a great flavor, the side salad was very good also. I was disappointed I got full before I could eat it all. My husband was even getting some off my plate. It also came with some toasted, buttered bread. My husband got the fried shrimp with slaw, hush puppies and fries. He said it was very good and the hush puppies were some of the best I've had in a long while, full of flavor. The last time we had been in G Town, we had gone to the location on Ave O, but recently discovered the downtown location. Downtown has a bigger menu than the other one, so we were curious to try it. I'm glad we did. I had the fried shrimp platter, while my wife ordered the chicken alfredo pasta. Mine was perfect, but my wife's pasta was too salty. She said it was okay, but our server brought her out a fresh order quickly, and this one was spot on. I have gone to the other Shrimp N Stuff location a few times but this was my first visit to this Downtown location. The coconut shrimp, French fries, hush puppies and coleslaw was ok. The grilled fish tacos were good according to my dinner companion. To be fair, anytime you order fried food to go, there is a good chance it will be cold by time you get hone and eat it. This was the case for us. What really stood out was the key lime pie for dessert! It had just the right amount of tartness and sweetness! The employees inside were very friendly, perky and fun! I had an oyster Poboy with a side of onion rings and they were very good. The service was also good. They took our orders and the food was made pretty quickly as we had 12 people in our group. The restaurant appeal is just OK. It's old but like most of the businesses on Galveston Island look like this. IMO But don't let that discourage you from going to shrimp and stuff. One in a neighborhood near the Seawall, one on 23rd street which is for special events aka weddings (see previous yelper with picture of a verdant chard with a painted white pergola) and then this place an update walk-in Seafood place on Ball and Rosenberg Avenue. This location seems pleasantly geared to the tourists. Clean, social distancing, staff and clients wear masks. Seat yourself service. Service is island speed. And the food is fresh. We enjoyed the broiled stuffed shrimp with rice and vegetables and a fried seafood platter. The hush puppies are good and have diced jalapeños interspersed inside. read more

I happened to drive by Shrimp N Stuff Downtown and decided to stop in. It was about 4:30 so there was only a small crowd (I'm too old for crowded restaurants and waiting in lines!) Since it was Happy Hour, I decided to order a variety of items off the Happy Hour menu including bbq wings, coconut shrimp, shrimp cocktail, and shrimp stack salad, along with some onion rings. Bill ordered boiled shrimp off the main menu along with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Wow, that was a lot of food! I couldn't eat it all but I did do a lot of damage! The coconut shrimp was light and crunchy, just the way I like it. They went fast! The shrimp cocktail had five delicious shrimp all peeled and just waiting to be dipped into the cocktail sauce. They went fast, too. Next I tried the onion rings. They were very good, but a tad bit heavy with all this other food. So I moved on to the shrimp stack salad. It was a combination of avocados, some kind of pico de Gallo and shrimp salad. Very good. Finally I tried the wings. I didn't care for the sauce; not because it was bad, just not my flavors. I got the plain BBQ sauce. They have other versions that were hot but I don't like too much heat. My husband spent a lot of time peeling the boiled shrimp; so we decided next time to buy two servings of the shrimp cocktail instead. It would be a lot easier! His cole slaw was SO GOOD! Loved that! I tried a couple of his sweet potato fries and they were good, but by this time, food was not that interesting to me! Haha I was really full. Our server was awesome. She was very informative and attentive. When I didn't eat my wings, she took them off my bill even though I told her they were cooked fine; I just didn't care for the sauce. She went out of the way to take care of us. I will definitely go back! Next time I'll try a few more different items! read more
