The food is good. The stuffed shrimp was the best. The stuffing was packed with flavor but I could still taste the shrimp. The catfish was fried to a golden crisp and it came out hot! The potatoes were surprisingly good. I wanted the bean relish but my wife nixed that idea. The hush puppies were okay. They were dense and flavorful but just a little too small and crispy for my taste. The fries were limp but they were alright. Overall, I'd go back to Shrimp N Stuff for a quick bite to eat. The old reliable fried catfish is my go-to for seafood places, and this place serves up some fantastic catfish. Flaky, delicate, well seasoned, and perfectly crispy. The service isn't that of your regular sit down restaurant. This place is more of the "walk up to the counter to order and do everything yourself". Not the most friendly staff, but not rude either. We also got the fried shrimp as part of their pick 2 platter. It was good, but nothing special. The sides were fine as well. We made a stop here for dinner on the way to the Bolivar Peninsula and were warmly welcomed by the staff. It was our first time here, and the staff member provided helpful recommendations. We ordered the coconut shrimp (with hush puppies, coleslaw, bean relish), fried shrimp, and a chicken tender kids' meal. Being a fan of coconut shrimp, I was excited to dig in but was met with disappointment upon realizing that the outer layer was over-fried, too dry, and with very little shrimp (not fresh shrimp) inside. Fried Shrimp po boys - it's good. A long time favorite and barely out of first place for my all time favorite. Shrimp perfectly fried. Bun just right. Lettuce and sauce hard to beat. I hate tomatoes but they are probably pretty good. I like mine with a few cracks of black pepper and some malt vinegar soaked into the bun. Gumbo - couple two tre splashes of hot sauce and it is just as good as any of them. We came in a day when it was in the 40's and it sure hit the spot against the cold. Highly recommend crumbling up some hush puppies in it. We got a lot and probably could have made it work with just 1 pint. The platter - (keep in mind my wife is a yankee from Oklahoma) coconut mid- did not like the sauce "too sweet". Boiled shrimps - good would eat another helping right now. My son loves the fries. He ate all of his chicken tenders which is a rare plus. I had the fried shrimp. I ordered onion rings and fries and there must've been thirty onion rings. Extremely generous! Josh puppies were good, too. I typically don't like hush puppies with jalapeño but these weren't too spicy. My husband got the platter with half fried shrimp and half coconut shrimp. I haven't been here in ten years but when I was in high school (a block over) and we had a one hour open campus lunch, I always came and got a fried shrimp po boy. I was in 9th grade at the time and couldn't drive anywhere and this was the closest place to walk to besides the cafeteria. We got all the fried things today. They look like hush puppies but are so not hush puppies. They are crunchy on the outside, but filled with tasty, moist, real crab goodness. Their fried seafood is the best on the island. Upon arriving, we saw that they had a nice patio area where we could sit with the dogs on plastic picnic style benches. We quickly noticed that these tables are meant for two people rather than four as they're a bit wobbly/ flimsy. At Shrimp N Stuff, you go to the front to order drinks (sodas/bottled beverages) and food. We all decided to order the same thing of the Fried Catfish (2 filets) with french fries and coleslaw. We then received a buzzer to be notified when our food was ready. The staff was friendly and happy to answer any questios/ make suggestions. When picking up the food, you are given the option of sauces (tarter sauce, ranch, etc) and also directed to an area where they have additional condoments. The food looked fantastic so I was excited to try it. To my disappointment, the catfish was just OK and the tartar sauce (which I usually love) was a miss. First things first, the service was amazing. The individual running the register was really nice. We got a UTMB student discount, so i think for the amount of food I got, the price was fair. He also gave me a free drink. The restaurant itself was also very clean. I got the shrimp tacos with cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle sauce and black bean relish. Everything was good, the only critique I would give is that I wish there was less cabbage, as it made the tacos very hard to eat. I had to eat it more like a salad than a taco.
