First of all I'm bias. I remember coming here as a kid, tween, early teen, punk high schooler, 21 year old dumb butt and now back with my family. Could be nostalgia but I doubt it. What we ate: Fried shrimp po'boy side of hush puppies 2 pints of gumbo 1 bowl of gumbo A create a platter with boiled shrimp coconut shrimp potato's and hush puppies. Fried Shrimp po boys - it's good. A long time favorite and barely out of first place for my all time favorite. Shrimp perfectly fried. Bun just right. Lettuce and sauce hard to beat. I hate tomatoes but they are probably pretty good. I like mine with a few cracks of black pepper and some malt vinegar soaked into the bun. Gumbo - couple two tre splashes of hot sauce and it is just as good as any of them. We came in a day when it was in the 40's and it sure hit the spot against the cold. Highly recommend crumbling up some hush puppies in it. We got a lot and probably could have made it work with just 1 pint. The platter - (keep in mind my wife is a yankee from Oklahoma) coconut mid- did not like the sauce "too sweet". Boiled shrimps - good would eat another helping right now. Boiled potatoes "these are the best I have ever had" "I could eat these till I keeled over" she ate all of her plate and after sharing and mixing we maybe had 1/2 a bowl of gumbo left. The service is friendly and efficient. Ambiance is some kinda something. Diner? Dive? Are we in Maine? It's cool and homey and feels like a local secret. Not on the beach but beach feeling. We made a stop here for dinner on the way to the Bolivar Peninsula and were warmly welcomed by the staff. It was our first time here, and the staff member provided helpful recommendations. We ordered the coconut shrimp (with hush puppies, coleslaw, bean relish), fried shrimp, and a chicken tender kids' meal. Being a fan of coconut shrimp, I was excited to dig in but was met with disappointment upon realizing that the outer layer was over-fried, too dry, and with very little shrimp (not fresh shrimp) inside. The fried shrimp was better but didn't have much flavor. I also took a bite of the kids' chicken tender, and it was also very dry. Restaurant was clean and well-maintained; service was fast. Rhis is the most reasonably priced shrimp restaurant on Galveston Island. they probably have the best key lime pie on the island. They're friendly, service is quick. the restrooms are in good shape. I highly recommend them, and they they gave me first responder discount without me even asking just because of my hat and so I really appreciate that. Cute little counter service place with unexpectedly good food! We went for restaurant week special and got gumbo with a shrimp po'boy. Both were really good! Gumbo has just the right amount of flavor without being too spicy. Shrimp was fresh and fried to perfection. Also came with seasoned fries and a drink - lots of food! Stopped here while visiting Galveston for some fried shrimp and thought it was delicious! The shrimp was fresh and the breading was crispy. The portion was HUGE! Definitely enough to split with someone. The staff was kind and gave a great recommendation. I liked the outside picnic tables, but there's plenty of indoor seating as well. My son loves the fries. He ate all of his chicken tenders which is a rare plus. I had the fried shrimp. I ordered onion rings and fries and there must've been thirty onion rings. Extremely generous! Josh puppies were good, too. I typically don't like hush puppies with jalapeño but these weren't too spicy. My husband got the platter with half fried shrimp and half coconut shrimp. He absolutely loved the coconut shrimp! I can't place the flavor in their cocktail sauce but it is NOT horseradish and it's very unique. We would absolutely come back. I haven't been here in ten years but when I was in high school (a block over) and we had a one hour open campus lunch, I always came and got a fried shrimp po boy. I was in 9th grade at the time and couldn't drive anywhere and this was the closest place to walk to besides the cafeteria. We got all the fried things today. Fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, crab balls, and fried oysters. All stuff was freshly fried and hot when we received it. Service was fast and the line moved along really quickly. Good movement from tables so you were never just waiting. Parking on the streets and in front was easy. I also learned there's a parking lot they have now which was a surprised to me. We went here today for a late lunch. We looked at the menu on line ne and knew what we wanted. Five minutes after we walked in the door we were sitting. I ordered the 8 piece shrimp and my wife had the 5 piece. They came with fF, hush puppies and a side. I had coleslaw and she had seasoned potatoes. The food came quickly and it was fresh and hot. If there was any fault it was they sent way too many FF I mean there was at least three orders of fries on the basket . Way too much . In the future when we come to Galveston Island we will certainly eat here. read more

You can't beat the shrimp or the oysters here. You can tell they are authentic, fresh caught here on the island. Service to fast and friendly. The restaurant is, I believe, in its original location, so decor is suitable. Outside eating area is nice. Inside has tvs showing different webcams from locations on the island which we enjoyed viewing. The restaurant has only gotten better since we started coming here in the late 70's. First off: if you can, visit the OG Ave. O location for a quaint, "tucked in a neighborhood" and "where the locals go" experience. We much prefer the vibe here over the less quaint more manufactured downtown location. My family has been going here for 10 years now and you can't come here without ordering the crab balls. They look like hush puppies but are so not hush puppies. They are crunchy on the outside, but filled with tasty, moist, real crab goodness. Their fried seafood is the best on the island. Deliciously light but crispy batter. The fried shrimp is always a good move, and the fried oysters are usually excellent. You also can't go wrong with a shrimp or oyster poboy. My shrimp, fried to perfection always has this amazing crispiness which snaps with every bite which is normally one bite for me. What, I'm hungry... The only downfall. After arriving to galveston in the morning, we wanted to find a spot to grab some lunch that was also dog friendly. Upon arriving, we saw that they had a nice patio area where we could sit with the dogs on plastic picnic style benches. We quickly noticed that these tables are meant for two people rather than four as they're a bit wobbly/ flimsy. At Shrimp N Stuff, you go to the front to order drinks (sodas/bottled beverages) and food. We all decided to order the same thing of the Fried Catfish (2 filets) with french fries and coleslaw. We then received a buzzer to be notified when our food was ready. The staff was friendly and happy to answer any questios/ make suggestions. When picking up the food, you are given the option of sauces (tarter sauce, ranch, etc) and also directed to an area where they have additional condoments. The food looked fantastic so I was excited to try it. To my disappointment, the catfish was just OK and the tartar sauce (which I usually love) was a miss. Fries are hard to go wrong with - they were good! As a group, we ddidn't finish our meals and decided that while we liked the atmosphere, this wouldn't be a place we visitied again. read more

I'm on a mission to review as many locally owned establishments in Galveston, and so naturally coming to Shrimp N Stuff was a must after seeing it on social media. First things first, the service was amazing. The individual running the register was really nice. We got a UTMB student discount, so i think for the amount of food I got, the price was fair. He also gave me a free drink. The restaurant itself was also very clean. I got the shrimp tacos with cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle sauce and black bean relish. Everything was good, the only critique I would give is that I wish there was less cabbage, as it made the tacos very hard to eat. I had to eat it more like a salad than a taco. Came here all the way from Houston and this place didn't live up to the reviews or photos. I'm so disappointed and dissatisfied. We ordered an oyster pot boy with hush puppies and and lobster and shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries. The oyster po boy lacked any seasoning, like non at all! It was filled with mostly lettuce and then mushy greasy fried oysters on top. The worst part was when I attempted to eat the sandwich there was something hard and inedible (like shell or rock) inside it. Not just one bite but two, contained something hard and foreign...I trashed it. Then the hush puppies were hard as heck and seemed old. The lobster and shrimp po boy was the worst of it. It was 3 measly fried shrimp and 2 small fried crumbled up pieces of what we assumed to be lobster on top of a top of lettuce. The sweet potato fries were soggy and clearly cooked in old oil. $20 per sandwich isn't worth the disappointment. read more

My wife was here a few years ago and couldn't remember the name of this great fish place. So, we drove around the general area for a while before she saw it and knew this was the place. Luckily for us, she was 110% correct. They serve some great, freshly prepared seafood, the kind where you can tell the difference in flavor of the fresh seafood versus frozen stuff. Food still consistent in quality and taste shrimp po-boy was tasty after a day on the beach. 8 nice sized shrimp fried just right, dressed with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayonnaise. Ask for cocktail sauce it gives the sammy a delicious kick, comes in a big refrigerated squirt bottle. Sandwich is paired with a side offering, 8 hush puppies was my choice dipped in tarter sauce. Plenty of parking around back if you can't find street side. They now have two air conditioned rooms to dine in, the middle patio area has gone through a lot of renovations to be comfortable to enjoy your meal outside even during our heat dome days of summer. January 11, 2023 Over the 10 years I've lived here, when my good friend from Pasadena TX comes to the island, he wants to eat here. He loves this place; so this is where we go. I've been generous with my "star" ratings BUT, I just can't anymore. I can't get over the smells once you walk thru the door; it's a combo sewer, cleaning agents and old oil smells. Their food lacks flavor. There's not even enough s/p in the batter, much less anything else. The shrimp gumbo...oh wow! It's pitiful. These people are NOT from Louisiana, they have no kin in Louisiana, they've never been to Louisiana. LOL! They probably have all of that above BUT, it doesn't show in their frying OR the gumbo. My friend loved his catfish and shrimp, the fries didn't taste homemade. But, here's the thing, my friend is born and raised in Pasadena; he don't know any better. And, he doesn't like spicy so there's that. I had a bowl of soup (shrimp gumbo) I picked the shrimp out and threw it away. No where near Louisiana seasoned. I had 12 fried shrimp; nice size, no flavor to batter. I won't be back. read more
