Hush puppies, Blackened Red Fish Tacos
    Maha S.

Can never go wrong with the famous shrimp sandwich. I had the fish tacos. They weren't all that in my opinion. The hush puppies were amazing and worth it. Service was quick, ambiance was alright. It's best to just quick and eat as it gets very crowded and busy and you can't really talk in there.

The place had good views if you could catch a good spot but I really think it is more of a bar with food, not a restaurant with a bar. Everything was mid for the prices tbh. The service was great though!

We went well on vacation so we understand the up-charge for being so close to the beach. I initially wanted chicken Tinga tacos but they gave me Carnitas and honestly I'm so glad they did. I was between the two or else I would've sent them back, but I felt like it was a sign. They were so delicious. The Carnitas had a really nice flavor in the sauce and the avocado was delicious on top! Everything tasted really fresh!

21+ bar entrance - no line!

I've always passed by this restaurant whenever I visit Galveston, since the line often wraps around the street. On a lovely and mild July, we ventured in. There are two entrances. The "dine-in" line is packed with families. The "bar patio area" is walk-in and diners need to be 21+. We waited momentarily in the "dine-in" line until an employee gestured for us to skip the entire line and be seated immediately in the "bar patio area." Service was quick and attentive. My boyfriend and I felt very relaxed in the easygoing beach vibe. We also sat conveniently next to the restroom doors, so we could watch the line and time when we needed to use the restroom. There is only 1 stall for each male or female. We happened to be present for Happy Hour, so we ordered a Margarita Flight (all very delicious and appetizing). The Margarita Flight cinched the cozy "don't worry about anything beach vibe." We also shared the Seafood Platter: Shrimp Kisses, Jumbo Fried Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Beer-battered fish, and Fish Filet! The Coconut Shrimp was absolutely scrumptious that the true test of love was revealed on who would eat the last piece. (My boyfriend is such a sweetheart that he ensured that my foodie heart was indulged!) The Coconut Shrimp was hands down my favorite for the crispy and juicy batter! Considering the fact that I'm not fond of coconut, the Coconut Shrimp will change your tastebuds! Parking is easy too... along the Seawall and also near the restaurant. They even have a complimentary garage (which is very handy). Parking along the Seawall is free after 6 pm. I highly recommend visiting this local favorite when in Galveston!

My friends and I were in Galveston for the Lone Star Rally, and The Spot ended up becoming our go-to place. We came here three different times, and every single visit was solid. The food was always on point -- the Diablo shrimp, calamari, and the seared salmon were all legit and full of flavor. The service here really stood out, too. Alicia, Nique, and Makenzie, they all made sure we were always taken care of, and the manager came by each time to check on us, which you don't see everywhere anymore. The whole place just has a good vibe, good energy, and good people. The Spot really became our spot while we were in town. Definitely a must stop whenever we're back in Galveston.

The view on the patio is the best thing about this place. I was extremely disappointed in the food quality. I ordered the turkey burger and it lacked flavor. By all the stuff that it had on it you would think it had flavor but it did not. The fries were not bad. My mom got the spinach dip and again it lacked flavor. This place was busy too. I was surprised at how many people were there when the food was this bad. I guess the location? The service was pretty good though and friendly. Needless to say I would not be coming back here.

I think people come here for the view and alcohol but I really enjoyed the salmon I ordered, it was really well cooked and had great flavor. My friends got the fish and chips and they said it was good.

Food is always consistent and tasty. Different vibes in one area. There is the bar vibes or the beach family style vibe. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Service is good. Expect long lines on premium days but it move fast. You order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table when food is ready.

    Kids Fried Shrimp and Fries

I tried something new on this visit and got a smashed burger. I can see why this is one of their top items, it was pretty tasty. I'm one who loves a seasoned burger but my patties were very salty, flavorful but salty. I added bacon on top of my burger which just aided to the saltiness. The fries are good but you must eat them immediately while they're crispy unless you like soggy fries. I also got a key lime pie and was not a fan, I think Edward's frozen pie tastes better than this. This was my first time going inside the restaurant and the ambiance was very lively. I can see this being a great place for families with kids to dine at after a long day at the beach!

Came here for Happy Hour (M-F 3-7p) but found out it's only at the bar outside. We had our toddler so we opted to sit upstairs on the balcony (great view). Boyfriend was still able to order Happy Hour drinks and bring them upstairs (he enjoyed them. I think he got a frozen margarita $5 and passion fruit mojito $6). It worked out for us anyways because kids eat free on Tuesday. crispy baja tacos $15.99 - 2 large cod tacos. Delicious. Wish we got our own entrees lol, but we shared this. Crispy beer-battered Cod fish, purple cabbage, pineapple mango salsa and Baja sauce in corn tortillas. Served with chips and salsa. Mini sampler $16.99 - wings, sliders, fried pickles. For the wings, we got island spice (recommend!). Cheeseburgers were fine. Fried pickles were decent but salty. Recommend the wings. Kids grilled cheese $7.99 (kids eat free Tues) - "gourmet" grilled cheese was fine. Fries were good! Cookie was typical. We would return. Preferred this over HH at Nick's Kitchen.

Not my first time but it's been a few years. This was a late lunch on a Friday in January. So it wasn't crowded. Service was good. They do ask for your card up front before you order. The view is excellent. The chips and queso were tasty. The onion rings were excellent. The smash burger was ok. I didn't like the pickles or the sauce and the bread is a little thick for my taste. Others may love it though. It's in a prime tourist location, so as expected, the prices were high for burgers. Parking can be tricky. And I know it gets crowded and there are long waits in the regular season or nights and weekends. Overall it's a nice beach vibe. Would recommend.

Is this a good place to watch games?

Yes it is its really good

Can you see the Fourth of July fireworks from the outdoor seating? We're coming from out of town and would like a chill spot for dinner and to still see fireworks.

    Yes

Is the outdoor seating dog friendly?

    Only for service dogs

    Is it kid friendly?

    Yes.

What is the exact dress code ? Me and my boyfriend were going to get a drink. He was wearing a solid color shirt and they said he needed a logo on it to get in? I'm very confused

The bars do not allow solid color t-shirts. This has to do with gang colors. They just don't want issues.

Can you bring a toy dog?

    No. Only service dogs

What is the best time to go with kids on the weekend where there won't be much of a wait?

We went around 6:30 and it wasn't bad at all. You order at the counter and then wait for your name to be called. Super easy!

    Are they dog friendly?

I've only seen a service dog once.

    Can I make reservations?

They dont take reservations. It is find your own seating.

    Are they dog friendly?

I don't believe so. And honestly, the service sucked when we went and the food was mediocre.

So do waitresses exist here or nah?

The place has multiple places to eat in one spot. Some have wait staff some does not. I believe it's 5 different venues 2 have a wait staff.

    Do they allow dogs?

Not positive but I did not see any dogs so thinking probably not.

I'm confused on which areas have sit down seating with menus and not an order at register type menu?

The Spot is an order at the register then be seated where y'all want. They will bring your food to you or you can pick it up at the counter

    Is this spot Dog friendly?

Pretty sure they don’t allow dogs, I’m a regular there, and I’ve never seen any. Probably because it’s a restaurant too..

    DO THEY ALLOW LEASHED animals?

    No

    Do they have a photobooth?

    nope they do not

    Good for kids?

    Yes

That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. So, I decided to fight fire with fire, and figured I would eat myself happy again. Which I'm never mad about. Sometimes I make myself angry just so I can eat myself happy. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. Perfect doneness. Perfect Ketchup vessel. I could just stare at a pile of them all night. Mostly because I'm weird. I decided to lean more toward the 4-star side, so here we are. While in Galveston for a quick weekend getaway, we wanted to go out for dinner. Katie's was my first choice, but the wait was too long, so I pulled up Yelp to see what else was recommended. Shark Shack had great reviews, and when we arrived there was zero wait, so we went for it. The one area where I docked a star was the service. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. I was so excited for a margarita, but when it arrived in a plastic cup, I was immediately disappointed. Plastic cups are for the beach and nightclubs, not a restaurant with a bar. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all. Our server seemed so disinterested in everything: taking our order, answering questions, and when it came time to pay, we had to wait ages to see him and wave him down. The food was decent with no major complaints. It wasn't "blow your mind" amazing, but it was good. The owner -- well, I assume he was the owner -- came and spoke to us when he found out my husband was military, and he was really nice, friendly, and very supportive of the military community, offering a very generous military discount. That definitely raises the rating and is much appreciated, so thank you. Overall, the big fixes for me would be the service and the drink situation. I can't say we would rush to come back just because we love Katie's for the service, food, and drinks..

For appetizers, we had a cup of gumbo and fried okra. The okra was perfectly breaded and came with a side of ranch. The gumbo was served with a slice of buttery, delicious bread, such a nice touch. The flavor was good overall, though it could've used just a bit more seasoning. Still, we cleaned the bowl completely! For entrées, we ordered the catfish po' boy with a side of onion rings and the shrimp tacos. The po' boy was light but still very filling. My only suggestion would be to add a little more tartar sauce, but otherwise it was great. The onion rings were perfect, huge, crispy, and they give you plenty! The shrimp tacos were also light and well-balanced, with just the right amount of toppings and sauce. Every bite was so good... as you can probably tell from the picture...my boyfriend couldn't even wait to dig in Now for the service: the two ladies working were friendly and helpful. We came in right before closing, and they still treated us like we were their first customers of the day, which we really appreciated. As for the atmosphere, it's cute, simple, and very on-theme with seahorse decor throughout. The tables were clean and well-kept. Honestly, it looks even better on the inside than the outside.
