Cutting across Texas to New Orleans, I knew we would be skimming the shore of the Gulf of Mexico…read more Shut up. My review, I can call it what I want. That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. So, I decided to fight fire with fire, and figured I would eat myself happy again. Which I'm never mad about. Sometimes I make myself angry just so I can eat myself happy. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. Perfect doneness. Perfect Ketchup vessel. I could just stare at a pile of them all night. Mostly because I'm weird. I decided to lean more toward the 4-star side, so here we are. While in Galveston for a quick weekend getaway, we wanted to go out for dinner. Katie's was my first choice, but the wait was too long, so I pulled up Yelp to see what else was recommended. Shark Shack had great reviews, and when we arrived there was zero wait, so we went for it. The one area where I docked a star was the service. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. I was so excited for a margarita, but when it arrived in a plastic cup, I was immediately disappointed. Plastic cups are for the beach and nightclubs, not a restaurant with a bar. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all. Our server seemed so disinterested in everything: taking our order, answering questions, and when it came time to pay, we had to wait ages to see him and wave him down. The food was decent with no major complaints. It wasn't "blow your mind" amazing, but it was good. The owner -- well, I assume he was the owner -- came and spoke to us when he found out my husband was military, and he was really nice, friendly, and very supportive of the military community, offering a very generous military discount. That definitely raises the rating and is much appreciated, so thank you. Overall, the big fixes for me would be the service and the drink situation. I can't say we would rush to come back just because we love Katie's for the service, food, and drinks..

We ordered two craft strawberry mint lemonades ($16 each), but despite the bar being lined with sliced garnishes, neither drink contained mint or any garnish at all. It felt more like a shortcut than a craft cocktail. When we arrived, the TV was playing the news -- which we didn't mind -- but a manager came over and literally shut it off mid-segment, which was awkward. We also tried to pay with cash, but the bar wasn't set up to handle it. After waiting quite a while for them to figure out change, we finally gave up and used a credit card. Overall, the Tremonté Rooftop has potential, but the service, execution, and atmosphere just didn't match the price point. We won't be rushing back.

There are flat screens all around and a stage for live music indoors. They do have a mixed drink menu, however, there are no prices on it (average $12) and you'll have to scan a QR code for their food menu. On fair weather days they'll have the garage doors at both ends open to allow the breeze to flow through instead of air-conditioning. The only problem with that is that when the food arrives, so do the flies. They have a full bar with available seating and upbeat music playing overhead. They actually have a woodfired pizza oven (so I was told, might be gas fired tho) in the back corner which helped me with my choice of meal. The wife had scallops which came out perfectly cooked and tender. My pepperoni/mushroom pizza was good and something I would order again. Since we got here on a Saturday, there's no happy hour, but their mixed drinks were good, although the alcohol was barely discernible. When it's time to check out on the handheld device, you will be charged a 3% credit card fee on your bill. We had great service and a good time. Informative photos below, including the bill, giving you an idea what you can expect to pay as well.

Someone recommended this restaurant to me for brunch but early in the week (Mon/ Tues) they open in the evening. The decor inside and out is very cute! Everyone we encountered was kind! It screams Brunch Time. Some folks were dressed nicely and others were dressed more casually. This place is pretty popular, so there is probably going to be a line. There are nice beach chairs and a bar for you to enjoy while you wait. All of the drinks looked really good. Our wait was 25 min, but it was a bit longer and I lost track of time. They request a phone number, but dont have a corresponding system to text you, just a young lady calling names that you hope to hear. Parking: Parking is a bit of a situationship. My advice: read all of the street signs because some streets require you to pay and the signs are very faded. Street parking is available because they dont own any lots. Also, the Galveston Pakring enforcement were out giving tickets. Food: The pictures online are sooooo amazing. It just makes you want to order everything. Plus, the menu is very descriptive. Our table ordered the usual Brunch stuff the blueberry pancakes, French toast, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles. I would say the best of them would be the chicken and waffles. Shrimp and grits was an acquired taste... it was a bit smoky and not a natural smoke. More like a liquid smoke and the tomato base wasnt quite cooked down all the way. The pancakes were so big and they looked light and fluffy, but they had a cornmeal consistency that I wasn't a fan of. You could see the blueberries, but couldn't really taste the lemon. The French Toast were okay. Eventhough its not my go to, this seemed to be the best that we ordered. It is succcch a cute place. If I do go back, I will surely try something different.

Lots of good options on the menu, and I was craving their famous cinnamon roll pancakes, but then a server brought out migas to a table and I immediately knew I wanted that instead. Here, it's a little opposite from most places, you gotta pick your seat first then order as the seats, especially the tables, are hard to come by at times. There are plenty stools along the window but the tables are better and most tables are family style so you'll likely be meeting someone new. I also added a chocolate bread pudding for myself which looked really good. The rest of my group ordered the granny's breakfast with sausage, 2 scrambled eggs and Benny's tostadas. The food comes out surprisingly quick for as busy as they are. Everything was so delicious! I ate a little of the bread pudding at the restaurant, then eventually ate the rest over the course of the next few hours. Yum! This restaurant is highly recommended!

People rave about the service. The service is fine. You order at the counter and get your own silverware and drinks. The food is another story. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. Mash was fine. Corn was whatever. From can to plate. Nothing added. The CFS was atrocious. It was like breaded & over salted shoe leather. See the pictures. I couldn't eat all of it. The best thing on the plate was the toast. Oh, and they charge $19 for it. Whether frozen or homemade, which I doubt, to deliberately serve this to a customer, shame on you. My wife got the BLT. $13.50 for bread and lettuce with a little bacon. No mayo or mustard. Plain and bland. We realized later that you have to procure your own condiments, I think. Still, it was not good. The fries were undercooked and tasted baked. Sorry, but I feal betrayed by social media and what must be friendly reviews. This review is honest. The place is cool and I had high hopes but was sorely disappointed. Oh, I had a piece of cherry cheesecake. It was good.
